Braves to wear throwback jerseys Thursday

LOS ANGELES – The Braves will wear throwback uniforms for Thursday’s series finale against the Dodgers.

It’ll be part of a promotion by the Dodgers, who are wearing 1940s-era uniforms for six mid-week day games this season. Thursday is the first of the six.

The game is also special for the Dodgers, as April 21 is the anniversary of their first victory in franchise history in 1890. That happened to have been against the Boston Beaneaters, who later became the Braves.

Know it’s still April, but seems like a lot of hype this yr., not a sign of backing any of the talk up. Just not a very good team, for now. Long season, see if it changes, seems doubtful at this point though.

See no evil, hear no evil Joe Simpson just said Tim Hudson is “pitching great.”
The kind of statement that makes it very difficult to take him seriously on any subject.

Yet another average pitcher that the Braves make look like he is going to the hall of fame. This team is so overrated its not even funny anymore. Down by 3 runs right away, then these idiots swing at every first pitch.

I am so f’n sick of this team. Sick and tired of spending my hard earned money on this waste of space team. All they ever do is choke. All a team that is playing bad needs to do is have a long series against the Braves and they will get back on track. Other teams now look at the Braves.as a stepping stone to getting better. What a joke.

Then they wonder why fan attendance is down at Turner Field, who in their right mind would want to waste money and time to watch these losers? They have themselves to blame for that. If they would play better fans would show up. If they played better, fans wouldn’t bash them on this site. They deserve every negative comment about them, and they deserve to have low attendance at every home game, maybe that will motivate them a little.

There was no better braves ball than when we had Nixon and Sanders. This team NEEDS speeeeeed!!!!! Base stealing and speed changes the whole game and turns boring ball into something actually exciting. Braves… please put some speed back in your game. Put some speed on the field and I’ll return to the park.

Those Fla teams always had/have speed .. I thought… or hoped that with this new manager from Fla he would change the braves long ball game and return it back to hit and run with speeeeeed. oh speed… where art tho.

Even down 4-0 going in to the ninth, they had a chance to come back. If the Braves keep giving them selves a chance to win, eventually they will. I hope it is sooner than later, but the good thing is no one is giving up.
A lot of mental mistakes lately, thats what is killing us. The talent is there.

Note to Joe “Sominex” Simpson: Tim Hudson IS NOT PITCHING GREAT UNLESS YOU PLAY FOR THE OTHER TEAM!!! How many balls can you leave over the middle of the plate, belt high and 80 MPH?? Enough to get your head handed to you in the first inning of the last two games.

This team is going NOWHERE this year. Could be a cellar dweller at the All-Star Break. It is going to be an ugly year at Turner Field. Frank “Rent a Wreck” Wren has a great deal to explain. He’s gone at the end of this forgettable year.

maybe until we start looking like an MLB team we should revert back to our “beaneater” roots and carry that moniker as we certainly smell of someone who has partaken of WAY too many beans!!!

Guys, if it’s a 1940’s throwback, then it’s gonna be Boston Braves uniforms, which were NOT powder blue. They actually didn’t look all that different from what they wear today, just diferent material and a bit baggier, unless I’m mistaken.

Okay, deep breath everyone… I’m frustrated too, but we’re much better than we’re playing right now. I’d rather stink it up in April than September.

Although I want more wins now; at least the team (from the games I’ve watched) isn’t really shooting itself in the foot – it’s simply struggling at the plate. It’s degrees of bad, but I can stomach getting plain ol’ beaten – rather than tossing away victories by giving up leads, and throwing away games with errors, etc.
And yes, to score a couple of runs in the 9th last night was good in my book – at least they didn’t lay down without a fight.

Those would be some true throwbacks for the Dodgers since they’ve pretty much had the same jersey since they signed Robinson in ‘47.

Dirtybird, I heard Vin Scully talking about them on Dodger broadcast driving from airport Sunday. He said the Dodgers wore satin uniforms back then, home and road, in the era from which they’ve plucked these throwbacks.

They should be wearing 1988 jerseys. This team hit like the 1988 edition.

Isn’t this how Glavine pitched most of his carreer, gvie up 3-4 in the first and shut ‘em down for the next 7? At least that is what I remember and what Glavine indicated in an interview this morning when asked about Hudson’s early inning “issues”. Patience people … have a little patience.

Lost cause, you are correct. TG almost always gave up 2-3 runs in the first inning. If he didn’t then you knew there would be one inning that he would.

hey guys why are people giving up on this team when their 7-10 hey remember last year we started 8-9 and we had already been no-hit and things got worse later but then what happened we won the wild card and we had lost chipper and prado. i think we just need to be patient.

Um, let’s chill out folks. Recall that last year, the team went 9-14 in April, which included a 9 game skid. Things didn’t turn around until they swept the Astros from 4-30 through 5-2.

So sick of these fair weather fans. Can’t recall the last time a pennant or championship was won in April or May. No wonder Braves so-called fans are laughingstocks. Either you are with us or against us. Keep it 100!

SIMP @ 3:05– No, can’t win a pennant in April and May but you can damn sure lose one. This team is well on it’s way to under-whelming us all with their lackluster performance. When September gets here and the Braves are 4 to 6 games or more back of the Division lead, we’ll all look back to April and say “only if”. This team is the same ol’ Braves– weak and inconsistent offensively and vastly overrated in pitching (rotation).
