MIBravesFan – Freddy flat out saved Gonzo an error and the Braves a run in the first. Gonzo’s throw was about 3 feet short, but Freddy scooped it and never missed a beat. 3 outs.
Those throws that hit about 3 or 4 feet away are the toughest of all to catch because they are far enough away that you aren’t sure where they’ll go and close enough where reaction time is almost nil.
By his estimation, Mr. Pouliot will spend at least 12 hours a day in front of the computer for seven days a week over the next four months. He hasn’t had a vacation since 1999, when he joined Rotoworld as a writer making $25 a week. He routinely stays awake past 4 a.m. He whiles away the little free time he has by playing his Wii.
“I enjoy doing this,” he says. “I’m doing better financially now than I’d be doing if I worked in real baseball, and I like being able to rip who I want to rip.” – May 22, 2008, The Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121147430721114573.html
1700 NM at 100 knots per hour = 17 hours flying time with 3 hour legs that is 6 stops at say 30 minutes a stop so 20 hours traveling time (and that is 1 way assuming good weather the entire way). So 80 hours flying round trip for me. Not sure I can swing that LOL
its not the jet as much as the twin engines for the certificate (technically they aren’t licenses) and then in some cases type ratings are required (not full certificates but additional ratings) plus I’m not sure how many Lear’s are certified for single pilot use but now I’m getting technical. KL can weigh in with much more info my certificate says ASEL (aircraft single engine land) his has many more important letters. Although I’m betting that is way more info than you wanted (even if it isn’t more than you expected).
If I was picking something for me to fly it would probably be a Pilatus or a TBM850
Congrats to Braves. What I liked about the win. Two main things above all else that will go a long way in determining how the Braves fare. #1 – Kimbrell was simply unhittable. Crazy good. Nobody in either league could have hit him today. Wagner was right when he said Kimbrell is almost unhittable and doubt he will be missed.
#2 – Freddy Freeman. Saved at least three errors today with solid scoops. Might have saved the game who knows. The kid is going to be real solid for Atlanta and breaking in a rookie so to speak that is comforting.
Ok, gotta give props to Chipper. Welcome back. Stay healthy. Please. Heyward ditto. Nice 2010 rewind on that homer.
Rock on……it’s almost VCU time and I want this entire blog pulling for the Rams. No excuses losers. Richbrave, missed you at Sportspage. Burger=awesome.
You know the “experts” like the Giants in the west….where do they think the offense is going to come from….that team will need to throw a lot of shutouts to win again
if it is interstate direct the entire way no doubt it is faster to drive than fly in my airplane…I cruise at 115 mph true airspeed so with 30 mph wind in the wrong direction my groundspeed is 85 MPH so lots of people on the interstate would pass me…add in climb/pattern it is definitely not a cross country machine. That is why I’m looking at Mooney’s.
I have been Bumpin Old Refugee All Stars with Lauren Hill, and Wycleff Jean all week…I’m suprised that you are not a fan of them as well as old AZ and D.J. Quik
My 7th season on the Blog…I’m one of the Blog’s OG’s (Reminiscant Tear!) since it started in 2005. It seems like Yesterday when D.O.B. Clowned me the First time when I mentioned Mariah on here and I will quote D.O.B.
“No Man in his right mind would claim that he likes Mariah Carey” and this was on the old blog format….;)
Tiger – I was going to tell you the other day to look into the Mooney 231. It’s first year was 1979 and it is the exact airframe as the 252 without the speed brakes. The engine is also the same, but an older model. It had some cooling issues but they worked them out over the years and a lot of the 231’s have been modded to 252 specs. I’ve flown them and the only difference, if you have the cooling issue taken care of is the speed brakes. Mooneys because of their aerodynamics are flown high and at times you find yourself approaching the red line on them descending without the speed brakes. What you have to do is just prior to descent is to slow the plane down in level flight to 150 KTS and drop the landing gear which is a poor mans speed brakes.
remember an F or G at 130-40 kts is still a 30% improvement plus probably 100-200 nm in range over what I have for a pretty minimal increase in price. The decent 231’s I see are almost double the price.
Dave just a thought but it would be interesting to know how Bobby spent today. I certainly do not want to take ANYTHING away from Fredi but since there is the off day would be nice to know. Thanks for all your insight and first class work. For anyone out there who thinks it is easy just read 75% of what is out there on the internet masquerading as analysis. I am quite certain these “experts” have never seen a baseball game much less a Braves game. I read something on bleacher report that was written by an eighteen year old who in the comment section admitted he clearly did not understand baseball contracts or the fact they were guaranteed????
Looking forward to a GREAT season and appreciate your coverage!
Just sort of a follow up to your question (or a semi-response) I recall Bobby’s wife scheduled the cruise the team gave them for…was it this week or next week? I know it was around this time…
I have never flown an F or G. I have flown the Mooney 201, 231 and 252. IIRC though the F’s have a 180 HP Lycoming engine. Foolproof for 1800 hours. 10 GPH cruise at about 160 mph maybe 170 mph. I also seem to remember they are a little tighter cabin width than the 252, which is already less than your 172. Oh and 50 gallons of fuel. That gives you about a 600 mile range with legal reserve.
I gotta Get This Smoke Smell Out of my apt…Otherwise I will be dreaming that the apt is on fire…
Any Suggestions of getting rid of smoke…? I don’t like leaving Doors/Windows open because I hate bugs, especially mosquitos….but that might be my only option….
FSU Crimson of course. Sorry but that second plane just isn’t as aggressive looking or as impressive.
I will forgo the leather seats if that helps any….
Tomahawkin is a hoot. I still laugh at being bozoed or clowned. Colorful character that guy. I remember him posting about hanging at Lake Lanier and I swear I don’t thing I understood but a few words in the whole post. Mesmerizing.
KL – you know how the game works. I can afford an older/higher time/rattier 201/231 or a nicer/lower time/cleaner/better avionics F or G. I’m just thinking about looking if that makes sense so I will watch and see what I run across.
Since probably 80% of my flights are just me 10% me and one buddy (who slides his seat all the way back) 10% me small woman and a kid I think I can handle the loss of space.
I got a buddy who is trying to convince me I want a Bo cause it has more space but it does same speed and burns more fuel (plus I think the Mooney looks better than a V-Tail)
“Tomahawkin is a hoot. I still laugh at being bozoed”
When One Gets Bozo’d…Is an online term when a poster says obscene stuff on a forum/blog and gets banned…It happens on the Philly.com forums all the time
“Tomahawkin, I suppose you will never consider going into the food industry.”
ouch, Whatever, I’m a Professional Cook, so what, I slipped tonight and forgot I had food cooking while I was watching a Ric Flair interview? …I’m gonna have my own show one of these days, or maybe I should do a radio show, like Chuck and Matt…
nolie – not to mention the second one you can have to pick 2 of your friends to travel with. The first you can bring cab/soph/mibravesfan/RG/ plus 2 more (couldn’t think of anymore blog ladies well to be fair I could think of one more but didn’t think it would be right to include McFann in that particular list)
Tiger – you don’t, repeat don’t want an old V tail. You will spend more on maintenance than anything else. Bonanza parts are stratospheric in cost. They are safe airplanes despite what you hear but they are a money pit.
I had a half page typed about the M20F and my laptop ate it. Most was good. Low Overhaul/Prop times but the one thing you will end up spending money on is a GPS. They are just to great of a tool not to have one.

Trey – I’m not sure the vents are enough here, by the sound of it.

When One Gets Bozo’d…Is an online term when a poster says obscene stuff on a forum/blog and gets banned…It happens on the Philly.com forums all the time

MIBravesFan, well I guess he really screwed it up then. Looks like Tomahawkin may have to take a few cooking courses.

Dadgum, I don’t understand half the stuff T’ says, but it’s hilarious clowning him.
