I purchased a baby Taylor a couple of years ago and want to become a competent rhythm player, though somehow my fiddle / violin playing has transferred to lead on the guitar neck. A friend who does plays well is offering lessons, which I direly need for the chords. Piano is an “ear taught” thing from long ago.
Nancy Griffith’s “Love At The Five And Dime”; I’ll bet I listen to it every couple of months. And the Great Southeast Music Hall; one of the quirkiest, most enjoyable evenings was Leon Redbone riding the tails of his ‘Saturday Night Live’ apparances when I was in high school.
Man, you’re inspiring some good memories. And dinner’s calling. Later.
My TV keeps getting interrupted with that screechy warning that “this is a test of the EAS for Orange County.” Umm, first, you really don’t need to run it every 30 minutes and second (and most important) I DON’T LIVE IN ORANGE COUNTY!!!!
ken……the great southeastern music hall! Is it still or long gone? Saw Billy Crystal there two nights before he made his first appearance on the Tonight Show……………..memories, memories.
Yeah….CB’s post at 6:46……coulda SWORN as the announcers were signing off today, one of them said “this is Dave O’Brien”. Hadn’t paid that much attention to them during the game (I mean as to WHO they were except for Nomar), so, I wondered…….??????????
Oh, I saw Buster doing his interviews and Berry doing his top ten stuff and, like I said, DID pay attention to Nomar, but the “Dave O’Brien” thing threw me……
CB…..well, thanks for clearing THAT up!!!!! I got SO tired of them over the years (especially Joe Morgan) that I honestly quit paying attention to who was who.
That’s great, thank you. And if you’d have told me before hand an orchestra was backing them, I would have raised an eyebrow. But it works, especially during the interlude.
I saw her my first trip to Telluride the summer of ‘87 during the evening and, by the time her set was over, half the audience has a new sweetheart.
Everyone Knows That I’m the number one Hater of BSPN on here…But Its Finally nice to see them start throwing in Some new Blood Since MLB Network is Wiping the Floor with them as far as Baseball coverage goes…
That’s what I meant about not paying any attention to WHO was announcing. Just got SO tired of their negativity towards the Braves over the years that if I was FORCED to listen/see a game on ESPN, I did, but totally turned off to the announcers. I was amazed today to hear some positive comments from them.
Glad to see Glavine will begetting more announcing work. Thought he was excellent last year. He knows when to talk and when to shut up. A little better than Smoltz, although Smoltz is a little funnier.
….just in case kenhotlanta isn’t still with us…..the Great Southeast Music isn’t either..it was torn down about 1980, I believe. And with all of the memories it provided, you’d think the place was an Atlanta institution for decades. However, it was only open for 7 or 8 years.
reagan: The Great Southeast Music Hall is long gone, I believe that whole shopping center was torn down for some condos. Lots of great shows and memories at that place, including the church pews sitting on the floor with no legs and the buckets of beer.
One of the best nights was the Steve Martin-Mull Review with Steve Martin back in the wild and crazy balloon filled days and Martin Mull. After they both did some stand-up, they asked the crowd to follow them, and they led us all the way down to the Bowling Alley at the other end of the strip mall, and proceeded to do a whole show on the bowling lanes with balls, balloons, arrows, etc. and it was hilarious. After a couple of hours we all marched back to the Music Hall and they finished the show. It was a wonderful memorable night.
Heyward said that when they interviewed him on ESPN during the game. Two vertebrae rubbing together causing discomfort because of a disk or something. I wish they has elaborated some.
Yeah…..I heard the same thing…..that Heyward “couldn’t” hurt it any more by playing, but I never heard HOW “they” determined that????? Saw that Frank Wren said it was just a spring training thing, but…… ??????……like you, would like to know a bit more.
kenhotlanta: I was also a big fan of John Denver’s music. My two favorite songs of his were “My Sweet Lady” and Sunshine on my Shoulder. Some of his later songs like Shanghai Breezes and Calypso stand out also.
According to the spring schedule I have, tomorrow’s game is in fact at 6:05 EST but Friday’s is at 12:05 not 1:05…perhaps DOB knows for sure? (and yes, both games are listed as being on MLBN- doesn’t mean they will be live, but they will be there at some point)
So Heyward has some kind of disk/vertebrae issue causing his back problem.
Do you know anything about that DOB? — Bat Masterson
No, I don’t. And neither did the GM when Bowman asked him after the game (because someone on his desk had heard the same thing you did on the ESPN broadcast). Heyward apparently told Buster that he was told he has less cartilage between a couple of vertebrae than most people do, something like that.
Yeah…..I heard the same thing…..that Heyward “couldn’t” hurt it any more by playing, Just Pat
I heard the same thing. The first thing I thought was that if there was a way to make it worse, Heyward would find it. I just don’t know about this kid. He has star written all over him, but he’s never gonna set any records for playing every game.
How on earth do the ESPN guys get news ahead of the Braves GM and the beat guys? And if he did see a doctor, why didnt he inform the team first. Guess we got to be happy Heyward didnt just tweet the news to everyone instead.
Glad to read that Medlen is on track. I really still that Medlen is more valuable out of the pen than in the rotation. I think Medlen’s got the stuff and grit to be a solid set up man or closer. I think by late summer, Venters and Kimbrel could use a little relief themselves. Hopefully, Medlen’s back.
Yeah, I thought it was odd to hear it first during an in-game interview. Hell DOB is on top of everything. What did Heyward do sneak away to a doctor last night or this morning, and not tell someone, like maybe the boss. Maybe he gets house calls.
am i just being a homer or do we have the best young pitching depth of any teamm, too many pitchers that are set to have great seasons not only this season but well into the future. bringing back fond memories of the 90s.
go braves
At first take, you’d think maybe this was something Braves’ management didn’t want to announce simply to avoid the crush of questions and to see if it would become a non-issue.
And I hope it still does, chalked up under the “He’s Young” category.
Thanks for the clarification on Friday’s game!!!!! Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick it up early that morning on MLBN’s “on air” thingie! Unless I get more info here tomorrow. Have learned to trust this place more than anything else.
Haggard and ken………life goes on, eh? Hope the younger ones MAKE as many good memories these days. The Steve martin-Mull show sounds like a hoot…..sorry I missed it. Gone are the days of Grizzard and Hudspeth. Haggard….Duvall is the best!
We already discussed the bench players, so what about the bullpen? Even though Kimbrel hasn’t gotten into a groove yet, I think he and Venters will share closing duties for the time being with Moylan and Eric O’Flaherty being the other setup type guys. Martinez will remain the long inning man. That leaves more spots. Linebrink and Sherrill haven’t exactly been impressive but have shown glimpses of the old stuff. Personally, the last spots are a crapshoot with Asencio, Abreu, and Marek doing well during the spring and Proctor looking decent at times. What do you guys think?
I seem to remember “House” taking a few house calls…..mmmmm
By the way, I wasn’t a regular watcher the first five years it was on, but have been catching up during the last two through USA network marathons. The episodes with Detective David Morse,(don’t remember his character’s name) were good, as were the ones with the 100million dollar benefactor tossing his weight around for the longest time. That’s a well written show.
That
s been my FAV show for a long time and then…….along came Harry’s Law with Kathy Bates. (Used to be a legal secretary so that definitely caught my interest.) It’s excellent!
“We already discussed the bench players, so what about the bullpen? Even though Kimbrel hasn’t gotten into a groove yet, I think he and Venters will share closing duties ”
I have been saying that all Spring…
You Can Take it To The Bank That Fredi G will use a 2 man closing Platoon with both Vennie-Macc and Kimmie much like Bobby Did with MFIKY and Mike Gonzales 2 years ago…
Kathy Bates has been a favorite of mine for a long time as well and I’ve seen commercials for Harry’s Law, but haven’t viewed it. Guess I’d better get on the case lest I miss another good actor in a good show.
I will Take C-Mart over The Proctologist and Until KK gets Dealt he will be another option in the pen, The Braves aren’t going to pay him over 7 mill to start in AAA
I’ve always told people that if they want to know why I’m so screwed up, all they hafta do is watch “Misery” (Stephen King’s book adapted) with Kathy Bates. MY mother was a nurse and even looked a BIT like her in that movie (and ACTED a bit like her, too!). However, the Harry’s Law persona is totally different…..nothing like my mother at all.
I’ve only seen parts of “Misery”,(and even then probably with only one eye open because she does “scary” and “demented” so well). But her turn in “Fried Green Tomatoes” is one of my favorites. “Towanda!”
Boy, I’m getting slightly irritated by the concentration of our Words in that one corner…there’s like, nowhere to put anything! I’ve got fine letters, but……
Since I’m winning anyway, why don’t you resign, and we cann start anew.
