Ramirez down swinging.
Arkansas Transplant, March 16th, 2011, 1:41 pm … “abwright, good thing you padded your numbers with those PEP’s. You barely made the list.”
I was thinking the same thing. I also got a last post after the new bloggage.
Errm … I mean, I’ve never used PEP’s and if I did it’s someone else’s fault.
Its a shame Medlen got hurt, can you imagine what our rotation would look like with him at #5, he was 5-0 when he went down, could have finished with maybe 12 wins, he was on pace & regarded ahead of Hanson when he came up, oh what could have been!!!!!!! Go Bravos Ugga Ugga
March 16th, 20111:45 pm
Wimpy inning for the Braves in the second. Not worth calling.
just heard the announcer say Diory would probably be the backup shortstop…since he thinks Cody Ross is catching for us not sure how much I value his perspective though
March 16th, 20111:47 pm
“telegraphic” Hmmm Must be nice to tell the batter what you are going to throw and still get them out.
Just goes to show that hitting really is really, really hard.
why is conrad on this team again?
March 16th, 20111:48 pm
the minimum requirement is going up…wonder if he can provide metrics that talks about what % of total the top 25 make and how it trends over time…now that would add some real value
Ha, nice hook Tommy. Nasty!
March 16th, 20111:49 pm
You’re right, scoots.
A quick BBQ shout out to Billy Jack’s Barbecue & Shrimp Co,
We see them post on the DOB site, their BBQ is also quite good! A great mustard based sauce, great sides (love the beans and Brunswick Stew)
And the shrimp is wonderful as well.
If you are looking for BBQ at Howell Mill ITP, give Bill Jacks a try, it is good stuff!
Good thing Tommy grabbed that grounder. Conrad would have kicked it and threw it in the stands. CUT HIM
to the telegraphic comment how long would it take for the transmission to get to the batter as opposed to the ball?
March 16th, 20111:50 pm
CAB, are you throwing in the towel after only one Victory?
In regards to Brooks Conrad, if Bobby Cox was still here, I would say that Conrad would have to slap Wren to lose his job. But, there’s a new sheriff in town and Conrad has not shown anything this spring. He has been soundly outplayed by both Diory and Lucas and at some point, spring training has to mean something to these kids who are trying to making the team. As for Mather, I put him in the same boat as Schafer. He is supposed to be healthy, but he isn’t showing the ability that he is believed to have. No Ramirez hasn’t proven himself to be anything other than a career minor leaguer, but at some point, lets take a chance and see what happens. Waive Mather. It’s not like the team will lose anything by dumping him. Go with Young, Ramirez, Diory, Lucas, and Hinske and see how it all pans out. Opinions are something aren’t they?
I’m not a huge fan of the loyalty game in sports. After what Conrad went through last year, the errors are going to be extremely hard to over-come. I can see him really struggling this season and Wren will look back on this mistake knowing it was right in front of him to part ways.
Tommy looking good. Fastball only at 90-91 but the control is good and the hook has been nasty.
March 16th, 20111:51 pm
seabass almost fell down on that one…
Hanson is all upper body, if he had McCann’s butt, he could drive the heat. Right now, it’s all arm.
March 16th, 20111:52 pm
Hold off…if Brooks goes 2 for 2 today…..he’s my favorite player of all time.
March 16th, 20111:53 pm
Interviewing Lowe about possible opening day start.
March 16th, 20111:54 pm
Scuturo – MLB player
Scutaro robs marten.
March 16th, 20111:55 pm
Good play Scutaro.
Conrad on first.
March 16th, 20111:56 pm
Walk doesn’t count…Conrad is not my favorite player of all-time.
Mixxo = Little League Pitching Coach. Tommy has hit 93 and 94. It is dead arm thim this time in spring training. The ball is down for Tommy good sign.
March 16th, 20111:57 pm
It’s still considered in TB. Tough crowd.
JC from DR!
March 16th, 20111:58 pm
Chipper grimacing…..not good.
wonder if i can lead this conference call while watching the game and blogging…
Chipper , hmm hurting. Take him out now!!!
March 16th, 20112:00 pm
Chippers bat looks quick. Good sign.
tiger297, give it a try. I do it all the time.
March 16th, 20112:01 pm
Mac hitting the ball pretty hard today. Good sign considering his BA this spring.
March 16th, 20112:02 pm
Where’s tim? This man needs some bingo cards.
I think Keylargo needs to start the season on the Gwinette blog. Maybe get a September Call up, or maybe not.
Brave One In AZ
Looks as if he hit his heel with his backswing. I dont think its his knee. I hope anyway…
Anyone know if and where game is on internet radio?
March 16th, 20112:03 pm
I can understand about Chipper. I do joke and call him the glassman, but he’s been playing this game hard for many years. His baseball body is almost 39 and nagging injuries are going to happen….Heyward, on the other hand, is a very young man in good condition. If Heyward is this oft injured at his young age, what’s going to happen when he gets into his 30s, provided he makes it that far?
March 16th, 20112:04 pm
DOB really does a good job announcing. I bet most of y’all didn’t know he works part time at ESPN too.
Here’s some of his accolades according to Wikipedia.
From 1987 to 1992 he called play-by-play for Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves as well as college football and basketball games for Georgia and Miami, garnering the Georgia Associated Press’ “Best Sports Play-by-Play” accolade in 1988 and 1991. O’Brien then broadcast for the Florida Marlins from the team’s inaugural year in 1993 through 2001, including their first World Series win in 1997.
I don’t know how he does one job much less two.
Yeah!!!!Won by a landslide.
March 16th, 20112:05 pm
Not at all, but today will be slower- have actual work to do and the USC game is on later…
that was a 49mph fastball according to the ESPN speed shown. Dont believe that.
Nah. key is a vet; he’s got nothing to prove during ST. We know what we’re gonna get from him during the season. Right now, he’s just getting his work in and taking his reps.
March 16th, 20112:06 pm
Nice play by Chipper.
March 16th, 20112:07 pm
medlen says the 5th spot is his. i like it.
That was right to Franc… I mean Mathers.
March 16th, 20112:08 pm
Apparently I have Facebook-itis. I keep wanting to click “like” on the comments.
March 16th, 20112:09 pm
Chipper, I’ve been watching you since you were on the best minor league team I’ve ever seen. I thought you were crazy to try to come back at your age from an injury like that. I was clearly wrong and I sincerely apologize for doubting you.
March 16th, 20112:11 pm
anyone find it interesting Wren being so sure to say Heyward is just ’sore’ and everyone is ’sore’ etc. Yet the 39 year old coming off knee surgery has played very regular all spring training so far? I think there’s some smoke screen goin on with Heyward. I’m not saying it is serious, but back twinges this early for a 21 year old doesn’t bode well.
Sounds like J-Hey’s got a chronic back issue.
March 16th, 20112:12 pm
Heyward’s done. Sit down.
Heyward’s answers are not very good. Expecting the worst! Heyward is fragile. Dont slide head first and you wont hurt that thumb , Jey Hey.
March 16th, 20112:13 pm
tony austin – I have that disease, too
Can somebody update the score? I actually have work I have to do so I haven’t yet been able to get to gameday. Thanks
March 16th, 20112:14 pm
March 16th, 20112:15 pm
David Ross’ two-out single in 4th is Braves’ 1st hit since the Braves opened game with 3 straight hits
Wilkin Ramirez follows with another single, Braves on 1st and 2nd with 2 out, 1-1 game, D.Hernandez up
bravesgrl4life, 1 to 1
This Wilkin Ramirez kid has some tools. Nice to have a RH OF in the system with some pop. I wouldn’t mind seeing him up in the ATL this year.
March 16th, 20112:16 pm
Heyward’s going to be a 120-game max guy. Had various problems coming up thru the system, had a couple of issues last year, and now he’s got a back situation that can’t be fixed. Treated, but not fixed.
Thanks, DOB and AT!
March 16th, 20112:17 pm
DOB, after the game, could you ask Ross what Lester and him were laughing about after the hit?
Still trying to figure out how to blame the last two days on Pendleton. I’ll work on it.
Uh-oh, there’s a rally a-brewin’! And off the Sox opening day starter no less (caveat – Lester is the Teixiera of pitchers — a slooowww starter)
Is it safe to say the fourth outfielder won’t be Schafer and that’s why Mather is in CF today?
That’s our Diory!!!
sportsmandh….I think Wren is quitely using the media to say yeah he’s ’sore’…..everybody is ’sore’. Here that Jason everyone is sore, yet they haven’t missed 5 games in a row. I’ve always to been taught when your working back in to playing shape you have to work the soreness out. Not sit wait and go again only to have the soreness come back.
Sounds like Jason needs to see a good chiropractor. I’ve got a great one just outside the Atlanta perimeter.
March 16th, 20112:18 pm
It may just be me but it doesn’t seem like Diory has really done much against the major league pitchers. It just seems most his hits have come off the lower tier and AA pitchers.
Tom Glavine > Chip Carey
if he had McCann’s butt Mixxo
If he had McCann’s butt?
P’cola Brave – I think you will see Ramirez at the majors at some point this year. He’s been rather impressive.
March 16th, 20112:19 pm
good, aggressive at bat Diory. Good grief.
Lester is a horse. Man he looks good. Tommy looks good as well.
March 16th, 20112:20 pm
bravesgrl4life – I said that the other day. That kid needs to see a good chiropractor.
any chance to not hear Chip- I’m all for.
Cut Heyward! Cut Diory!
March 16th, 20112:22 pm
Diory may need to go to Gwinnett and let’s use Lucas to spell AG once a week or so. If he’s out for an extended period, call Diory back up.
March 16th, 20112:23 pm
Sounds like Jason needs to see a good chiropractor. I’ve got a great one just outside the Atlanta perimeter. – bravesgrl4life
I’ve been thinking the same thing.
It may just be me but it doesn’t seem like Diory has really done much against the major league pitchers. It just seems most his hits have come off the lower tier and AA pitchers. – P’cola Brave
That’s our Diory. He’s our next great AAAA player. And the disparity between his AAA and MLB stats bears that out.
March 16th, 20112:24 pm
Nate sounded very confident. I pray he keeps up his good ways.
Tom Glavine >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chip Caray
of course, Barney >>>>>>> Chip Caray as well.
March 16th, 20112:25 pm
jeffrey d -
Strikeouts the side.
Cut Heyward and Diory?
That is too easy!
STONE them I say!
You hvae to admit, it’s little humorous to see the kid go from last year’s blog portrayal of Heyward-As-Bill-Brasky to the characterization of him as a fragile, skirt-wearing, underachieving semi-bust. Or is that just me, LOL?
Tommy is in complete control with his command.. He is ready to go right now. Strikes out the side
Tommy Hanson, nasty. Bring on the Phils.
March 16th, 20112:26 pm
Hanson’s done on the day. 5 innings 2 hits 1 run
Who’s pitching after Hanson?
Tommy Hanson struck out the side in the 5th, has retired 10 in a row and 15 of 16 batters since Scutaro’s leadoff homer in 1st
Tommy is dealing.
I think they want to give mather every chance possible because they spoke so highly of him. But this guy stinks too.
March 16th, 20112:27 pm
Hanson looked great, and thats very good news,so far the pithcing is solid except for Proctor which I think will be sent down. How is every one doing?
keylargo, March 16th, 2011, 2:04 pm … “I don’t know how he [DOB] does one job much less two.”
It’s almost like there are two separate Dave O’Briens.
Need to start shopping Heyward, but I don’t think damaged goods will bring much.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
