Dude, I’m not that old!
You’re always welcome…hope you don’t mind sharing the pull out bed with the dog
Pssh. Fire hazard shmire hazard.

Tell us Crime Dawg. Time waits for no man!
Come on out to UT next winter……….heaven knows my wife needs a daughter, and the snow is delightful!
March 1st, 201110:54 pm
That would be “Grand Ma-Ma” himself, Mr. Larry Johnson and of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels.
…and the snow is delightful!
March 1st, 201110:55 pm
No snow in LA!
March 1st, 201110:56 pm
We can hang while VJ works and when he gets home he can cook dinner
One thing I can tell Crime Dawg, you ain’t no jeffreyd.
Yea, Augmon was one of Tark’s great Running Rebel teams from UNLV. He had a bunch of good players on his team then. Greg Anthony, Anderson Hunt, and of course Grand-mama himself, Larry Johnson (there was one other stud on that team that I can’t remember)…
March 1st, 201110:57 pm
Haha, Crime Dog! I guess great minds think alike…
Snow ain’t for sissies!
Gotta head off to bed. Later folk…………..
March 1st, 201110:58 pm
It’s decided then.
March 1st, 201111:00 pm
Crime Dawg good answers, both right. Larry Johnson also had the first gold grill I ever saw. Wish it had been the last.
March 1st, 201111:01 pm
You do like dogs, right? Because she thinks the sofa (and the bed) belongs to her…
March 1st, 201111:03 pm
I’ll show her who’s boss.
I had my fill of snow in January.
March 1st, 201111:04 pm
Good luck with that- I’ve had her for almost 8 years and she doesn’t bother to listen to me anymore
March 1st, 201111:06 pm
Crime Dog – I saw a special on ESPN about Hank Gaethers and Bo Kimble when they played for Loyola Marymount under Paul Westhead. They played UNLV and the teams totalled over 250 points.
March 1st, 201111:11 pm
That LMU team was unbelievable- the program has never been the same since
March 1st, 201111:15 pm
They were so fun to watch. Put up soooo many points. I remember that red-headed kid Poindexter or Peabody (something dorky sounding like that) would jack 3’s left and right…
And that tourney run was something else…
March 1st, 201111:16 pm
and to think- those guys were all at USC as freshmen
March 1st, 201111:17 pm
Loyola made it to the Elite Eight even without Gaethers. Good chance they are National Champs with him alive.
March 1st, 201111:19 pm
I hadn’t thought about that team in years but I can remember when Gathers died- obviously a huge story here (and pretty much everywhere, but since LMU is a small local school…)
Frank from KS(now livin in CO)
March 1st, 201111:22 pm
cab – didn’t he pass away like early 90’s?
I remember seeing the story on ESPN..
March 1st, 201111:24 pm
The only bad thing about watching the game was that Gaethers made a spectacular dunk, turned to go back to play Defense, then collasped about mid court. He sat up once then laid back down and died. Right at midcou
March 1st, 201111:26 pm
key – wow, very sad
March 1st, 201111:27 pm
cab – that’s what I thought
March 1st, 201111:32 pm
Yea, that was crazy. How he died.
You’ve got to think his memory fueled a bit of that great tourney run, but that is interesting to think what might have been if he was able to make that run with them…
March 1st, 201111:41 pm
There is no doubt that Gathers’ death pushed the team and I have wondered if they would have fared as well if that hadn’t happened, but that was a very, very good team…
Westhead has always taught that running style of offense. He counts on his players being superbly conditioned and being able to dominate the last 10 minutes of the game. I have always liked to think if
every thing else is equal and your team is in better shape, you should win.
March 1st, 201111:48 pm
I mean, is there a better story than Bo Kimble sinking those FT’s lefthanded in honor of Hank?? Amazing and heart breaking all at the same time!
March 1st, 201111:52 pm
Mets running out of sources for money. MLB cuts them off.
March 1st, 201111:57 pm
Fire Sale time in the Big Apple I wonder?
March 1st, 201111:58 pm
Well, I’m not sure if it’s better than Hank Gathers/Bo Kimble Moe, but you’re right, the Mets in the midst of financial turmoil and disarray is a story I can get behind!
March 1st, 201111:59 pm
Sounds like it. They have huge debts and financial troubles even beyond the Madoff issues. Bobby Valentine is supposedly trying to put together a team of investors to buy a share.
March 2nd, 201112:00 am
Mike S, I was reading the news and saw it pop up. So came to post it. Then, I saw the story I was interrupting and thought it seemed a bit trite. But yes, sounds like they are in some serious trouble.
March 2nd, 201112:04 am
I’m sure you know I was just busting balls… I just thought it was funny because you posted that right after I asked “is there a better story…?”, and the Mets falling apart is certainly a good story!
March 2nd, 201112:19 am
Just back from dinner. I agree, it is a good story. Just hope they can meet payroll. I would hate to see a rookie buying a house and then unable to meet mortgage payments.
March 2nd, 201112:20 am
key/cab – here’s a clip from Youtube of the 60 minute Sports Center (w/ Chris Berman & Dan Patrick) the night AFTER Gather’s passing
March 2nd, 201112:25 am
unfortunately I can’t watch it right now- the sound on this computer is all wonky and the other one is off so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow if you can post it again
March 2nd, 201112:26 am
“I’d be too scared he’d fill up my wall with a 19 paragraph instruction list on how to program a VCR jeffrey d
All of my facebook friends have upgraded to laser disc players. VCR’s are soooooooo 80’s.
March 2nd, 201112:27 am
cab – yep, can do
March 2nd, 201112:35 am
On the front page of ajc.com:
“Borad to vote on closing 8 schools, moving 9,000 students next week,/i>
Not sure if they meant (school) board or Borat – and it reads like the students move next week, as opposed to the borad (sic) voting next week…
March 2nd, 201112:40 am
Even better that you were correcting there mistake…
March 2nd, 201112:47 am
CR / DOB / Denizens – can anyone provide any helpful advice for someone visiting Spring Training for the first time? I know I’ve seen this question asked many times in years past but because I wasn’t visiting ST then I guess I didn’t pay too much attention. Any info or pointing me to links where this question has been otherwise answered would be much appreciated. I’m going on Friday and Saturday this week and would like to make the best of the little time that I’ll have there. Also, if anyone has any nearby nice restaurant recommendations or other suggestions for me and the mrs for Friday night then that would be great as well. Thanks in advance!
March 2nd, 201112:49 am
“Their” mistake I should say! (before you have time to correct me…)
March 2nd, 201112:55 am
Anybody ever listen to Tinsley Ellis? I saw him in February at the Bama Theater in Tuscaloosa while I was there visiting my girlfriend, and damn, that man can play some guitar. Had only stumbled upon him recently and then saw he was playing there so it was a logical trip to make for me, show was free to boot. Great show, just him, his bassist, and the drummer, and they brought the house down. Best part is, is that he is out of Atlanta.
March 2nd, 20111:53 am
Hello every one! Saw the Braves have won! Good news……..Then some one mentioned Glee which should be called gay. Lame, Lame…. lame. I will not evey watch Glee……Excited to see the Braves tomorrow on ESPN…….
March 2nd, 20111:55 am
Correction not ever…..
March 2nd, 20112:03 am
J.J. is pitching tomorrow. That should be a good game….It’s sure nice to see baseball back.
March 2nd, 20112:10 am
Robert: Let Bobby go man. He’s the one who got us to all those division titles…….Fredi is our manager now. We all know what you are saying…… We don’t have to hear it a thousand times…….Let it all go…….
March 2nd, 20112:21 am
I’ll talk later…… I Know I came on late,but is was a busy day today……Talk later friends…..
March 2nd, 20112:28 am
Ellis si pretty good. I have a coupla his albums.
March 2nd, 20112:51 am
On the David Wright idea……..I think hell yeah, because we will be able to get him in a couple of seasons. We would have the money then, and Wright would be an excellent choice to replace Chipper, or we could look into our farm system, and see what kind of third baseman we have there. David Wright is great idea. I would spend the money on him,not trade for him,but that is just me…..
March 2nd, 20113:16 am
Nolie – gettin back to the classic movie discussion…
I would have to say, my favorite John Wayne movies would be..
North To Alaska, War Wagon, El Dorado, McLintock and The Cowboys…..altho I liked all his movies…those would be my top 5
March 2nd, 20113:30 am
Well I’ll let you guy’s be, and be cool. Talk tomorrow, and peace……..
March 2nd, 20113:44 am
Latest on the Mets too, was Donald Trump was interested in the Mets, and still could be of interest………..Hope that doesn’t happen……. peace……
March 2nd, 20116:45 am
The trainer’s silence has been costly to the government. The judge has ruled that unless Anderson testifies, prosecutors may not show the jury a stack of doping calendars and private steroid test results that were seized in a 2003 raid on the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative steroid mill in Burlingame. – The San Francisco Chronicle
Barry Zito had 5 walks in 13 batters Monday. 40 – 57 in 4 seasons with the Giants. $126,000,000.00 contract. I think Zito shows promise to be a fine government attorney.
Hiya Braveheart, N.I.T. yippee!
March 2nd, 20117:00 am
Hudson is pitching today, Ward. unless you meant tomorrow for real because you were up at 2:03 a.m. and it was technically Wednesday when you typed that. J.J. is pitching Thursday vs. Tigers.
It’s only spring, but thought you’d be curious to see this Phillies stat: Dominic Brown is 0 for 12 with eight strikeouts in four Grapefruit League games.
Bout to hit the road in the next hour. It’s a three-hour trip to Ft. Myers so pass that on if anyone wonders where I am!
March 2nd, 20117:10 am
CR — we expect you to blog via Blackberry en route to Ft. Myers.
March 2nd, 20117:23 am
Yahoo’s Jeff Passan has a nice article on J-Hey .
SWFL Braves Fan
March 2nd, 20117:30 am
Carroll, it is a bit quicker if you take the State Roads rather than the interstate, but it isn’t a measurable difference. Have a safe drive. Beautiful morning here in Fort Myers! Can’t wait for the game today!!!
March 2nd, 20117:48 am
Gil in Mechanicsville:
How was your ST trip?
March 2nd, 20118:21 am
From the news this morning….So….Mrs Wohlers gets the “save”, huh?
March 2nd, 20118:24 am
Wish list- Heyward to play 150 games healthy,Chipper130+,Uggla to be what he was last year, pitching to stay healthy. Braves will win division.
March 2nd, 20118:40 am
how far are you from Lynchburg?
McFann Ô Ô
March 2nd, 20119:02 am
DS1 Did you finish up your HS work??
If so, what are your post HS educational plans?
No idea…but I really should get one, shouldn’t I? Ngh…
Roman Gal I can donate a lava lamp to the McFann-goes-to-college- drive, though.
Hahaha! Aw, you don’t have to do that…I’d be living at home…
Last thing I need is McFann turning me into a McCannoholic. Supposed to get that junk out of my system during college…
I’ve always been fascinated by Rubik’s Cubes…got one over 7 years ago, screwed it up the day I got it, and never have got the dang thing back to normal!
March 2nd, 20119:22 am
Time to wake up – We got baseball today.
March 2nd, 20119:27 am
I’m no scout by any means, but Brown’s bat looks slow as molasses to me. In all the highlights I’ve seen of him, his swing looks like it takes place under water. Am I the only one?
March 2nd, 20119:28 am
I hope Dominic Brown keeps up the good work.
Lew, did you have you some grits this morning?
March 2nd, 20119:29 am
hillbilly Brown’s bat looks slow as molasses to me. In all the highlights I’ve seen of him, his swing looks like it takes place under water. Am I the only one?
no, ive seen it too. they had a break down on MLB network on the change in his swing. i dont think those rookies are gonna sink the phillies, but i think they are going to go through some stuff that will hurt the team.
March 2nd, 20119:31 am
Boy, the Cards are having some major injury issues this ST aren’t they? First it was Wainwright and now Capenter.
March 2nd, 20119:33 am
I’ve always been fascinated by Rubik’s Cubes…got one over 7 years ago, screwed it up the day I got it, and never have got the dang thing back to normal! – McFann
All I can say about that is…. peal and stick.
March 2nd, 20119:35 am
The Cards also have the Pujols distraction.
March 2nd, 20119:36 am
The three headed race for the 5th spot is now a 4 headed race cuz the K man / deuce-K is in the house!!!
AT, I hate to see players injured, but I love to watch Cardinal fans squirm with discomfort.
P-Town Brave ©
March 2nd, 20119:39 am
I see everyone had a nice FB discussion and is friends on there now…(well, except me of course)….
Only have two other Braves fans on my friends list, neither post on here.
March 2nd, 20119:40 am
Hillbilly – Isn’t that the truth? Got to love it!!
I know Pujols is seen as the best player in baseball but, if I was the Cards I think I’d try to trade him for as many prospects as possible. 30 million is too much for 1 player.
Hillbilly, you live in card territory right?
what is the pulse on whats going on? anything different than what the major media outlets are reporting?
Did you really think Wohlers could close that one out?
wheelz007 – The way it’s going, I hope they say their goodbyes cause that’s the way it’s starting to look.
March 2nd, 20119:42 am
The way Marek is pitching right now, it’s gong to be awefully hard to leave him off the 25 man roster. The dude is lights out!!
Transplant – Nope, just some yogurt (calcium is good for kidney function). I like to have grits instead of taters for dinner.
Hillbilly – Re: Brown. The Phillies decided they wanted to shorten his swing and now have the Kid so screwed up, he might end up at AAA to get straightened out the way they want, leaving Ben Francisco as the heir apparent to Werth.
Tried telling everyone that the Phillies outfield plans would not equate to Werth’s production and now it’s appearing that they won’t come close.
March 2nd, 20119:44 am
Transplant – “Peel and stick”
Definitely the only way I’d ever conquer one of those cubes.
March 2nd, 20119:45 am
Hillbilly, I haven’t seen much of Brown. Just purely looking at his minor league numbers, it looks like he just started to take advantage of his size the last couple of years. He’s never been extremely disciplined but I think he’ll eventually be okay. He doesn’t have awful discipline but he lacks it just enough to be a fairly easy out for major league hitters. It seems though that he’s not ready yet to step in and become a very good hitter. I think he’ll merely be adequate this season.
March 2nd, 20119:47 am
Replacing Werth’s bat is a problem, as Lew says.
The Phils, as we’ve discussed here before, need to stay as well.
So, I wonder where the Sporting News stands now about the Cards winning the NL Wild Card after Wainwright going down? I didn’t think the Cards were as good as the Braves, anyway, even with Wainwright.
How about if I said: “The Phils need to stay HEALTHY.”
More coffee, please.
March 2nd, 20119:50 am
Not a good year so far for Cardinal fans.
Lew, you have a lot of friends in the South who would be glad to send you grits (or anything else you miss).
March 2nd, 20119:54 am
Arkansas Transplant All I can say about that is…. peal and stick.
That’ll do the job!
So it looks as though the package may arrive today…Unfortunately I will be out and wont get to see it til tomorrow evening if it does show…
Will still let ya know though
March 2nd, 20119:55 am
Now, once AT tells me how good your BBQ sauce is…well…
March 2nd, 20119:56 am
KK will be traded by end of ST.
Gwinnett may have the deapest pitching staff in the history of minor leagues this year. Braves will be able to reload after trades/injuries for sure this season. Now we just need to have McLouth and/or Schaeffer keep it up, and make sure the bench is deep and ready to go. Let’s play ball!
March 2nd, 20119:58 am
PTown – IF for some reason it doesn’t get there, I’ll do another one, send it Overnight to my Son in Orlando and have him deliver it to you if necessary. But I’m sure it will get there in time.
Must be the weather. Not much snow right now, but horrible 50MPH winds and the temp is dropping fast.
March 2nd, 201110:01 am
JeffR- I’d say that the Cards loss of Wainwright (and possibly Carpenter, as well) leaves the Brewers in line for the Central Division Title. I just don’t see the Reds putting up the numbers they did last year, the Astros and Pirates are nothing to write home about.
Can the Cubs mount a charge?
I did hear Matt Diaz on XM yesterday – maybe he can inspire the Pirates, but I’m still doubting it.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
