N8: I disagree with you . I would rather have a solid ss who could hit for power.Gonzalez is a great player to haveon on the ball club. Yunal was cocky, and too much into himself… plus we have some good short stops coming up in two or three years. Play Gonzalez until then…….We don’t wan’t a child named Yunal E……..

Julie made the part on Broadway, but when it came to the movie she was shunted aside for Audrey who didn’t even sing her songs except for Just You Wait.
It wasn’t really Audrey’s fault I guess the producers wanted a known movie star, but of course Julie did Mary Poppins at that same time instead and became a huge musical name who could actually sing.
In the ending of the original play Eliza makes it clear that she will marry Freddy. Shaw later wrote an essay in which he explained precisely why it was impossible for the story to end with Higgins and Eliza getting married, though they would continue to be close throughout their lives. Higgins himself does not appear to want to marry Eliza. Towards the end of the original play, he sees the future as “You and I and Pickering will be three old bachelors together instead of only two men and a silly girl.”
The ending of the stage version of My Fair Lady comes from the 1938 film version of Pygmalion, starring Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller; This ending was faithfully retained in the film version

Thoughts? N8
Personally, I don’t understand how he could go from being “misunderstood” one year to a cancer the next. I get that players and coaches probably wanted to coddle him a little bit, but I’m just one of those people who doesn’t really care all that much about chemistry. If you’re a professional baseball player, there are some things you’re going to have to deal with…clashes of personality being one. Hell, I have to deal with my archnemesis everyday in class and I do just fine; they can, too.
As for the infamous standing ovation, I thought that was pretty classless. Most of the guys in that clubhouse probably barely knew Gonzalez, if at all, so it bothers me that they would stand up and cheer because one of their longtime teammates was gone. Escobar was one of my favorite players, so when I found out he was traded I wasn’t happy. Then after reading a little bit about Gonzalez and his stats and seeing him make dumbass errors and striking out in key places, well…
The players may have raised him up on a pedestal, but they shouldn’t be disappointed when they realize he’s afraid of the height.

Thanks, nolie. I did see your 1:25 effort.
Correct me if I’m wrong (yeah, like I had to tell you that), but didn’t Audrey want to, and was capable to, sing ALL of the songs in the movie? But for some reason the (producer or director) wanted her to lip-synch to someone else?
nolie

I’m not all that big on chemistry either, seen too many teams with little of it succeed so I didn’t like the trade, but I didn’t think it would make all that much difference, and it didn’t .
I’ve never liked Gonzo cause of his penchant for making a whole lot of outs and I would likely be a bit happier with Esco here this spring and him gone, but he is still a bit above average defensively and he is cheap so I’ll struggle trough another year.
I hope they both do well this season.

As for the infamous standing ovation, I thought that was pretty classless.
I think I may have learned something about that, from the previous page. Bat Masterson, and then Jake W. (on the very next post) both alluded to a different story concerning that.
It seems as though the Braves were clapping (about the trade?), when A Gon walked in. The Braves just continued to clap, as maybe welcoming him?
If that’s true, then it certainly changes that story around. (See Bat)

As far as Bat & Jake W.’s comments are concerned, you misread that. Bat just said it was serendipitous clapping for AG. Jake W. was asking about a rumor that he had heard the Braves were clapping upon hearing this great deal they thought the Braves made for AG. Then AG walked in.

MLB Atbat 2011 is a great ap. I use it to listen to Braves games (and whatever other games) when I’m on the road driving. Just plug it into the car stereo with a 1/8 jack. You’re post about IQ’s from different countries was surprising. I was shocked to see the US was so high considering some of the posts we see on here. My first year in college I had a class where the teacher passed out a map of continents and wanted people to label them as he named them out loud. I couldn’t believe how many people around me got them wrong. I couldn’t believe college students were that stupid to get something so easy wrong. Sometimes I think some kids could be smarter than their parents.

No question, it’s going to be a great year and the Braves are going to win the Divion and perhaps even the W.S:
IF, McLouth bounces back and has a grear year (bounces back to what – he has never had but one good year in his entire career and that was two or three years ago)
AND IF, Chipper bounces back from his knee injury (Again bounces back to WHAT – he hasn’t had a really good offensive season in the last two years, has very limited range as a defensive 3rd baseman, hasn’t been able to play a full season in who knows when, and is another year old on his significant downhill age slide.)
AND IF, they had a major leage quality Shortstop (their Shortstop is not adequate either offensively or defensively – if you are going to have a championship team>)
AND IF, the rookie first baseman can produce offensively (who knows – there is no indication yet that he can do so at the major league level.)
AND IF, Lowe can have a good year (He had great last part of the season last year, but is now a year older and who knows.)
AND IF, JJ can return to form (he has not really been consistant and effective since his Shoulder injury)
AND IF, the Braves can come up with another effective 5th Starter (there are good prospects – but unproven)
AND IF, they can come up with and effective Closer (Of course, Wagner is gone and this remains a question mark.)
AND IF, they can play adequate defense (They do not have good defense up the middle – or at third base)
AND IF, they can keep Bobby Cox out of the Dugout and away from the team.
Other than these minor problems, everything is great — We have two Starters (Hanson and Hudson) that are not question marks, we have a catcher who is great offensively (but only average defensively), we have Prado in Left who is a great hitter but learning a new defensive positon, we have Heyward in right who hopefully is going to mature into a really good player, and we have Ugla at second base who is great offensively but not so great defensively.

The whole Yunel soap opera was Bobby Cox’s machination. He is the reason Yunel was alienated. He is the reason for the classless spectacle you mentioned
He is also the reason that Yunel had to be gotten rid of – he was going to be of no value to the Braves, who treated him like garbage
