Yo… Mr. Tibbs… I guess you did not remember that last year McLouth couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat and that began the first day of spring training and did not abate until sometime in September last year. So yeah, his stroking balls to left center is a good sign.
“No logical reason for him to hit 3rd.”
No logical reason for him to move DOWN in the lineup either.
The man still gets on base at a very good rate.
I think Heyward is gonna prove to be the team’s best hitter and will wind up in the 3-hole by the break.
But when that happens, if Chipper is still getting on base at a rate comparable to past years, he oughta move up to the second spot rather than down
February 28th, 20112:39 pm
if you’re not into the whole brevity thing
February 28th, 20112:40 pm
they’re not going to move Chipper, so let’s stop wasting our energy considering the notion.
Brave4life-1995 all over again??, well, do you mean for 2010?
I would take Tulo, Stephen Drew, Hanley, Furcal, Rollins and Reyes in 2010. I’m not sure if there are many more I would take. There are some that may have 50/50 shots to be better. Even Rollins and Reyes are question marks given their ages and injury histories.
February 28th, 20112:42 pm
Are you employed sir!?
February 28th, 20112:43 pm
Who the heck is this Gearrin dude giving up 3 in a row! Pull that bum and send him to Mississippi!
Corky Miller's Beer Gut
THE ROYAL WE!!!
Reyes is 27.
careful, man. there’s a beverage here!
February 28th, 20112:44 pm
Geez, just let Nate play and see what happens. He was playing with a concussion last year and just fouled himself up. If he has his swing straightened out, he’s at least an average CF. I want Schafer to take the job, but Nate ain’t going nowhere, so let’s hope he’s back to normal. He is not a .190 hitter. He and Gonzalez are what they are; you can’t have an all-star at every position. But both of them have been good, productive players for several years. They’re probably both going to be gone next year unless no one in the system is ready to start at SS.
Heyward batting sixth makes all kinds of sense. He’ll get RBI opportunities and protect Uggla or Mac batting fifth. Assuming Nate makes a comeback or Schafer takes his job, both make a lot more sense batting second than wasting Jason’s power there.
February 28th, 20112:45 pm
OVER THE LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 28th, 2011
Does O’Brien ever work three days in a row? enz
Yeah, he just worked 15 in a row, 12-15 hrs each day. But I’m sure you do that a lot, too, right?
DOB in high spirits as usual.
Cory Gearrin plunks Chris Johnson with bases loaded, it’s now 8-3 #Braves, one out in fifth
Hey gameday said flyout to CF with bases loaded and run didn’t score so McLouth actually threw the ball in! Another great sign…maybe it is the long blonde hair.
February 28th, 20112:46 pm
Gameday stinks. Kinda like this dude we got pitching right now.
Man, were you guys just gonna let me keep posting updates to the old blog all afternoon without telling me there was a new one?
I was wondering why nobody else was posting… don’t I feel like a horse’s patoot.
BravePack, i actually thought that to myself, about the throw….you guys don’t miss a trick. He did make a nice sharp throw actually. …and there’s a nice DP turned by Gonzalez to get Gearrin out of bases loaded jam
Another blown lead.
February 28th, 20112:47 pm
Smokey this is not Nam, there are rules.
The Dude Abides
Im rooting for you Nate! prove all the haters it was a fluke.
February 28th, 20112:48 pm
Let’s get one thing straight … Sweet Pickles are Great!
Hey- people! Yay people!
Way to go to get outta that jam, Gonzalez!
CR … I think the 1B gave Gonzalez an assist on that DP.
Braves Fan Since "80
February 28th, 20112:49 pm
Early spring training results good……. if we get solid performances from Mc(former)out and gonzales and pitching we will cause problems for the NL east….
Three games in everyone has a positive spin
Perfectly calme dude….. calmer than you are
Hiya, cabravesfan! How are you?
Cory Gearrin’s now pitching 3-5 / 3.36ERA / 80.1IP / 66k’s for Gwinnett in 2010 He’s a side-arm thrower.
February 28th, 20112:50 pm
Hinske up in the bottom of the fifth versus Sergio somebody.
Ski drills a double to left center.
You can imagine where it goes from here. He fixes the cable?
Vaya Afronte Vaya!
February 28th, 20112:51 pm
Eric Hinske just stroked his second double of the day, this one to right center gap. He went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. His day is done.
Hinske in midseason form it sounds like….
Alright Big E!!!
Hicks singles up the middle. 1st and 3rd. Ski is out of the game but the pinch runner hasn’t been announced.
Prado to the plate.
February 28th, 20112:52 pm
February 28th, 20112:53 pm
Thanks for the updates CR and glad to have you here to give DOB a rest…he definately deserves it. Another double play to get out of the jam is good but bullpen seems like they need some work to get to season form which is understandable. Another positive is Uggla-Gonzalez seem to be working well up the middle and at turning double plays.
February 28th, 20112:54 pm
Prado walks the bases loaded. No one out with McLouth coming to hit.
February 28th, 20112:55 pm
Gameday is still at Castro in that dp. So glad I bought that TV and the extra DISH package for this season and won’t have to look at Gameday at all anymore (except for day games).
Gran Día para ser un Valiente!
February 28th, 20112:56 pm
solid day for nate!
“Escobar having one off year doesnt mean that he would stay that way. He has had an amazing 3-years before that.”
You’re easily impressed. I mean, Escobar had a decent three years, but I wouldnt call any one of the seasons amazing, much less the sum of the 3
February 28th, 20112:57 pm
McLouth walks in a run. Brent Clevlan (or however it is spelled) comes to the plate.
Braves 9, Astros 3
Braves up 9-3 after bases-loaded walk by McLouth. He’s reached base three times today on two walks and an RBI single
Obviously, you’re not a golfer.
Other then the fact that I’ve been very lonely on the old blog because nobody (ahem, Carroll! ) forgot to mention there was a new blog, I’m good- how’ve you been?
baxter my little gentleman
February 28th, 20112:58 pm
yea that gameday gig blows
i grabbed the mlb app for the phone just to be able to listen to any game w/o being 2-3-4 plays behind the actual game
In case I forgot to say it…really glad Hinske decided to re-sign with the Braves and glad Wren offered
for him to come back. Nice to see McLouth doing well…good dude just been disappointing in a Braves uniform but can turn it around this year.
Make that 11-3 Braves after Brent Clevlen’s single to right plus E9 scored two more. Welcome to spring training
February 28th, 20112:59 pm
Clevlan gets a hit to score Prado and Hicks. Misplay in the outfield lets the second run in. Braves 11, Astros 3.
Hey, we’ll take it!
I’m good. It’s been a busy off-season for me, so I didn’t spend a lot of time on the old blog. Missed all the regulars. I don’t even know that I saw the last blog where you were lonely
February 28th, 20113:00 pm
loved the hinske resigning and the mather pickup
McLouth looks great so far
McLouth steals third. McCann at the plate.
Strangely enough, I am. N8
You get paid by the word, right?
Hello every one! Nice Blog Carroll………Good too see the Braves ahead….. a small joke. Sould we put Proctor in?
Great blog DOB
February 28th, 20113:01 pm
Baxter, if I upgrade to a smartphone with apps, I’ll have to do that. i can’t stream here at work and my radio is set to the rock station that plays the regular season games. i’m afraid if I change it, I’ll never get that back.
Busy is good We’ve missed you too! (well, I have anyways )
February 28th, 20113:02 pm
McCann pops up on the in-field. I can hear McFann cursing from here.
Uggla to the plate.
I always said Nate needed to bring the golden flowing locks back. Maybe it’s working…
“oops! nope, this is wrong. at the time yunel was traded, the braves had the best record in the NL, and 3rd best in the majors.” DAP
“Not that it has anything to do with just Yunel but we were actually a better team in terms of results before the all-star break when we had a 52-36 record, we went 39-35 after the break for various reasons.” Jake W.
“N8 wrong? Say it ain’t so,Joe?” CB
“Escobar never disappointed the past 3-4 years” Brave4life-1995 all over again??
Oh where to start?
Before the trade, Braves went 46-33. After the trade, the Braves went 45-38. So on the surface, you could say that before the trade, they were better. You’d be right. Slightly, but right.
Until you look at the month of May. Why May you ask? Well that’s the month that Troy Glaus went off and carried this team. Braves went 20-8 in the month of May.
Well, one would think that Escobar was a big part of that too, right? Nope. For starters, he (Escobar) only played in 16 of the 28 games. Braves went 12-4 in the games he played in, and 8-4 without him.
But sadly enough, other than perhaps defense, Escobar had little to do with those wins. In the month of May in his 16 games played, Escobar batted .207 with 12 hits, 0 HR and 4 RBI.
To put that into perspective, Troy Glaus had 4 RBI on May 1st. Ending up with a .330 average, 6 HR and 28 RBI in May. Followed with 6 more HR and 19 more RBI in June. Escobar added 6 RBI to the mix in June.
The Braves had a better record before Escobar was traded in spite of his effort. Not BECAUSE of his effort. Escobar was hitting .198 with 0 HR and 18 RBI in 227 AB before the trade. Yup. He was a HUGE part of why they were winning (eyes rolling).
Seems to me that if Escobar was contributing to the winning ways in the eyes of his GM and manager….. he wouldn’t have been traded to begin with.
But don’t let the facts get in your guys’ way.
radio dudes are talking about how the braves got new bats, but are going about it by saying “yep, the braves got some new wood”
cab, thanks! This season, I will have the laptop up in the guestroom with the TV so I can in-game blog. Hubby knows he won’t see me too much downstairs when there is a game on.
February 28th, 20113:03 pm
Uggla with a deeeeep … foul ball.
uggla just crushed one foul down the line
Let’s see Uggs drive in a run with less than 2 outs please.
February 28th, 20113:04 pm
and then he yanks another one foul
Uggla hits a deeeeep … foul ball again.
February 28th, 20113:05 pm
Make that 11-3 #Braves after Brent Clevlen’s single to right plus E9 scored two more. Welcome to spring training
Sac fly to RF for Uggla. McLouth scores to make it Braves 12, Astros 3.
Heyward comes to the plate with 2 outs.
The Braves offense looks real good 5 runs first game, 4 runs second game, and now 11runs…… Good sign to read about all this……
McLouth steals third and Uggla cashes in with a sac fly to right. Braves 12-3. Eventful day for the center fielder
February 28th, 20113:06 pm
Clevlen is balked to 2B.
February 28th, 20113:07 pm
Heyward cracks a line drive to the ‘Stros RF-er who makes a sliding catch to end the fifth inning.
Tenga esta vez una oportunidad de ser tan bueno. Si todos permanecen sano y conseguimos unas pocas interrupciones que tenemos una oportunidad de hacer algo especial.
Besides, my initial comment on the topic was disputing the “youth” portion of that initial remark. Not that we were actually a good team. But since people wanted to bring up whether we were better of with or without Yunel, I figured I’d clarify it for y’all.
With Glaus, Saito, Wagner in the mix last year we wer far from “young” when Escobar was still on the team.
We had Heyward, Hanson, Venters and Prado. Jurrjens wasn’t contributing and everybody else wasn’t that young. Kimbrel came later.
This year, with Escobar gone (who really isn’t that young), Freeman replacing Glaus, Kimbrel and Venters replacing Wagner and Saito…. even with Gonzo, this team is YOUNGER and likely will be better than the team was through june last year. If you swap Schafer for McLouth, we get even younger.
February 28th, 20113:08 pm
If Nate continues to hit. Maybe we can call him Thor for his nick name……
P-Town Brave ©
Man, is it like take your sh*tty blogging friend to work day or what?
What is with some of the idiots on here today?!
Was listening to 1230 AM and it just switched in the middle of an at bat lol Thanks for updates !!
February 28th, 20113:09 pm
Lost the radio again…
our 2b defense goes from uggla to conrad
February 28th, 20113:10 pm
Varvarro (sp?) is on to pitch for the Braves. Former Mariner.
Several other changes have been made as the remaining starters are starting to come out.
Big-V gets the first out on a fly ball to center.
February 28th, 20113:11 pm
It wasn’t until Yunel and his automatic outs at the plate were gone that we turned into the better teams in the NL. N8
I honestly don’t know why you would think this at all. Before the trade, the Braves had the best record in the NL (52-36) with a .591 winning percentage. From July 14 on, the Braves went 39-35, good for a .527 winning percentage.
I’ll grant that some of that is due to injuries, but I definitely wouldn’t say that getting Gonzalez made them better.
McLouth goes 2-for-2 with an opposite field double, two walks, two RBIs, three runs, and a stolen base. A nice day for the Braves centerfielder
Ward … there are few players less Thor-like than Nate McLouth.
February 28th, 20113:12 pm
Base hit to the next nameless Astro.
Lets hope today’s performance is the beginning of the Nate resurgence!
… a small joke.
February 28th, 20113:13 pm
Another base hit puts runners on 1st and 2nd with one out in the top of the sixth.
“Can’t Stand Ya” catches the fly ball to RF for the second out of the inning.
