Come on Mac
wow, braves are having the bats go on fire this inning
McCann gets second hit of the inning, two-run bases loaded single, Braves up 6-0….Braves batted around before Uggla popped out to end inning
February 28th, 20111:45 pm
How about hitting the weight room this year!!!. It will help with your guaranteed back injury for the 5th year in a row. Please get a trainer. You get paid to much to be soft as a Q-Tip. Yeah I said it.
P-Town Brave ©
If anyone wants to get on someone this inning, at least make it be the guys who have made outs!
JC from DR!
2-run single by McCann. Braves up 6-0. They are on fire today.
Cant find a radio link that works. Sucks.
February 28th, 20111:46 pm
6-0. Way to swing the bats guys.
Hope this is a prelude of things to come.
Man, only a few days into ST….
Yeah, I guess its long enough to bring out the Critics from the University of Stupidity
February 28th, 20111:47 pm
Good grief! Could we stop bashing the players already? This is only the third ST game.
Brave4life-1995 all over again??

I would bet my money that Alex Gonzalez will be the weakest offensive starter on this team
He was “over-rated” as a blue jay
He hit 8 HR in 112 games as a Brave in 112 games
He hit 23 HR in 157 games as a Blue Jay
Blue jays are on that juice last year
Gonzo is a grump…cut him.
February 28th, 20111:49 pm
“Haha, i am not starting an argument, but still am not sold on Alex Gonzalez. He may be a veteran but is way too inconsistent. Last year when we need our veterans to perform most in the post season, alex gonzalez failed miserably”
Well, it’s a good thing you aren’t looking to start an argument, because based on the points you’re making, it’s an argument you’d likely lose.
For starters, while Gonzalez at his age isn’t as talented as Yunel is with the glove. But in reality is actually more conistent at the plate than Escobar ever was. Especially last year.
Finally, I seem to recall Gonzo having a HUGE hit in the extra innings game in SF. So comparatively speaking, he did as much (and maybe more) than other Braves hitters did last season.
If you’re not sold on Gonzo based on that series against the Giants pitching staff? You likely are not sold on any player still on the Braves that was on that roster.
Perhaps you should become a Toronto Blue Jays fan?
February 28th, 20111:54 pm
Ok, here we go.
Top of the 3rd.
Bryce Harper expected to play against the Mets
should be very exciting
February 28th, 20111:56 pm
Dude, overrated is a guy who was expected to perform and didn’t (see Yunel Escobar)…while Alex was nowhere near expected to hit that many HR in Toronto.
You may wanna know the terminology and what you’re talking about before you go throwing things around like that…
I may have agreed with you if you had said “overachiever”, but thats quite different than what you did say…
And what you said about the Jays…that can’t be proven and I just can’t argue w/ something that at current is fiction.
February 28th, 20111:58 pm
Somebody cue up Yakety Sax…
Meanwhile, back on the ranch ….
Unbelievable. You deify a scrub like Alex Gonzalez but vilify a Hall of Famer like Chipper Jones.
N8 We had Yunel last year and were NOT one of the best young teams in the majors. It wasn’t until Yunel and his automatic outs at the plate were gone that we turned into the better teams in the NL.
oops! nope, this is wrong. at the time yunel was traded, the braves had the best record in the NL, and 3rd best in the majors.
February 28th, 20111:59 pm

Not that it has anything to do with just Yunel but we were actually a better team in terms of results before the all-star break when we had a 52-36 record, we went 39-35 after the break for various reasons. This is a team game and its hard to attribute overall success or failure to the addition or subtraction of one player. So for accuracy sake the TEAM was playing better in the first half than the TEAM played in the second half.
baxter my little gentleman
February 28th, 20112:00 pm
sounds like our defense is in midseason form
Who did what?!
February 28th, 20112:01 pm
is harpers game being rebroadcast on mlb tonight?
Linebrink getting roughed up a little?
It’s been said on here about a million times already, but batting McLouth second and Heyward sixth is a travesty.
Given the high OBP guys for the Braves, I have a feeling that today’s offense is a sign of what to expect during the reg season. When I was listening to the Games on Sat and Sun, there were a ton of long ABs by everyone in the line up.
Lots of guys getting on base. Just need a single or a double to get some runs home.
February 28th, 20112:02 pm
N8 wrong? Say it ain’t so,Joe?
why do they call it Dark Star?
February 28th, 20112:03 pm
I going by there respective track records. Yunel Escobar 2 years back had almost a .400 avg w/ RISP. Maybe thats why I miss him the most. I believe that if we can give Mclouth a 2nd chance after a 2010 torrid year we should have given Escobar another chance.
Alex Gonzalez is nothing but an average player w/ career avg of
Yunel Escobar career avg
and a better glove. BUT a bigger mouth
February 28th, 20112:04 pm
Its my assumption that “The FAn” has rights to this game? No other station in the braves radio network is carrying the game.
Does anybody know how many of these games The Fan will carry?
I’d bet anything that Yunel Escobar has a much much better season than Alex Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is a scrub and always has been.
February 28th, 20112:05 pm
Esconar will be missed.
February 28th, 20112:06 pm
February 28th, 20112:08 pm
“It’s been said on here about a million times already, but batting McLouth second and Heyward sixth is a travesty.”
One person saying something one million times does not count
February 28th, 20112:09 pm
Alex Gonzalez < NL east short stops
Yunel Escobar (2007-2009) = Nl east short stops
Escobar never disappointed the past 3-4 years
February 28th, 20112:11 pm
THIS would be my opening day lineup
February 28th, 20112:12 pm
Probably been posted already, but Jayson Stark has contributed a new entry into the “Brave New World” catalog:
I would bet my money that Alex Gonzalez will be the weakest offensive starter on this team
Well, I think if McLouth bounces back to any noticeable degree and/or Schafer breaks out, you’re right. But also how weak one considers him depends on if you take position into account. There are only a few shortstops in the game that get on base at a clip above the .300 range. So Gonzalez is no worse than any other shortstop offensively. Plus, even if his power takes a hit this season, he’s likely to slug better than most shortstops.
So “weakest hitter on the team”? There’s a good chance. But “weak”? Not really. If McLouth bounces back and/or Schafer breaks out, the Braves aren’t going to have any hitters that are weaker than an average hitter at each position.
how does Sherrill velocity and control look????
February 28th, 20112:13 pm
Yep … but lucky for me, there are many others on here who have said the same thing.
February 28th, 20112:14 pm
If the players on the team didn’t want Escobar around, the fans’ opinions don’t really matter.
February 28th, 20112:15 pm
Didn’t see the runs score off Linebrink because I was down getting Lowe, but one scored on a sharply hit ball off Uggla’s glove and the other on a pop-up to the mound that Hicks tried to field and tripped on the mound. Word is he always made a terrific bare-handed play but couldn’t. results is Braves up 6-2 and now bases are loaded vs. Sherrill
Ricky T. Tibbs
I’m glad I can’t see McOut hitting (or so he calls what he does hitting) …
Shaun name one SS you wouldnt take over Alex Gonzalez in the National League
the NL is full of talent at SS
take a look at the NL east
Reyes, Rollins, Reyes, Desmond
I hate the phillies
February 28th, 20112:16 pm
Is Hicks mentally challenged or something ?
Looks like Braves bullpen is shaking out the rust. Better now than later.
February 28th, 20112:17 pm
@ baxter, lol. Sounds about right.
How’d Linebrink and Sherrill do?
February 28th, 20112:18 pm
Sherrill gets Michael Bourn to bounce into double play to end the fourth….true to form, he gets the lefty. Of the first batters he faced, all right-handed, he retired only one (Jason Castro) on a strikeout. Johnson and Manzella singled, Matt Downs walked on four pitches
February 28th, 20112:19 pm
I would rather them switch but I wouldn’t say “travesty.” I would rather Heyward hit in one of the top three or four spots, since he’s probably the best hitter on the team. But one moderately reasonable batting order versus another is not going to make a major difference in run output.
velocity for Sherrill upper 80s. four-pitch walk to Downs ….so can’t say control was sharp
For anyone that cant find the game I’m able to get it through my IPhone on AM 1230 the fan2.
February 28th, 20112:20 pm
uh oh…Mclouth haters won’t like that…
February 28th, 20112:21 pm
Why would you bat .185 McOut 2nd ? Straight up retarded.
Opposite field RBI double stroked to left center gap by Braves McLouth. A good sign for him. Braves up 7-2
February 28th, 20112:22 pm
Mclouth going the other way
I have been saying that since day one, that is his biggest weakness
A blind squirrel finds an acorn every now & then… Nate’s gotta get hits off MLB pitchers not spring training AA pitchers…
February 28th, 20112:23 pm
so is Chipper the first player to in his career be the youngest in the clubhouse and years later the oldes on the same club?
brave4life Shaun name one SS you wouldnt take over Alex Gonzalez in the National League
ooo, i wanna play. whoever plays for houston. id rather have gonzalez than him.
Wow Nate already has more hits this spring than all of lasy maybe. Good for him and he went opposite field…good sign for him. Good job Nate.
Who’s pitching for the Astros ? Some AA pitcher I’m sure or 25 year veteran washed up ?
February 28th, 20112:24 pm
RBI single for Chipper makes it 8-2 #Braves. Jones’ day is done: 1-for-2 with BB, RBI single.
Tibbs…he’s 2 for 2 with a walk….I’d say he found the acorn jackpot!
Prove your doubters wrong McClouth.
Why would you bat .185 McOut 2nd ? Straight up retarded. Ricky T. Tibbs
Opposite field RBI double stroked to left center gap by Braves McLouth Carroll
Bad timing, Rick
Great question Bruce!
February 28th, 20112:25 pm
Chipper leaving the game
Thanks crazytrademan, I finally got it
That’s the attitude, Ricky
Time for ole Hoss to play 9 holes.
Nate usually follows 1 hit with 0 for 35’s. Yuou know this !
February 28th, 20112:26 pm
Brave4life – probably just taking him out to not wear him out. Common practice in ST.
It’s behind but I am fine.
I am also watching it on gameday, the little green box showing it pitch by pitch and play by play lol.
Bruce….. perhaps Biggio is the only other player I can think of recently that went start to finish with same club.
brave4life…They just pulled him because he got his 3 ABs, and why have him run the bases…
February 28th, 20112:27 pm
Yes McLouth, shut down all of this Schafer nonsense
I wish i was in Florida
friggin freezing up here in New York
The braves should trade McClouth for Francoer.
February 28th, 20112:28 pm
Shaun — I’ll give you that. “Travesty” was a poor word choice on my part. I still maintain the principle of my statement, though, for the same reason that you said above. Heyward is probably the best hitter on the team, so we should be maximizing the number of plate appearances he gets. He should be hitting 3rd, in my opinion, but that won’t happen until Chipper retires. Oh well.
What did McCann do? Gameday goes from Nate to Uggla, skipping Chipper and Mac.
February 28th, 20112:29 pm
never mind, it finally updated. @ Mac
I’ll get excited when McLouth is hitting .350 at the send of Spring Training. Until then, I hope he does succeed, it only helps the team.
“Good to see Cox in khakis and golf shirt, tanned and relaxed”
Agreed. Only thing better would be to asee him in a Phillies uniform
February 28th, 20112:30 pm
It must be tough to take 4 swings in a game so they give Chipper only 2… What a life…
February 28th, 20112:31 pm
Eveyone here knows that when the season starts McOut will be the same double play,K,pop up king he was last year…
February 28th, 20112:32 pm
Heyward still got some patience
February 28th, 20112:33 pm
I agree Ricky, trade Mclout now since his value has peaked today.
You are not a Braves fan are you dude?
February 28th, 20112:34 pm
Oh, great, FishBisch has a friend on here now. Lord help us all
The Dude Abides
February 28th, 20112:35 pm
Lets all agree that Chippers back!
Sure, we will trade the Marlins Mclouth for Infante and Dunn? How does that sound to you?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
