I agree. I didn’t take offense to it, because I’ve just questioned his ability to come back fully and be worth the monetary value of his contract. Not his desire to “steal” the money.
My problem as a guy questioning whether he can make the comeback complete is that any negative energy spent bickering with or slamming guys that “live in their mother’s basements” is time not spent actually working on the comeback.
NOTHING good can come out of publicly making those comments. NOTHING.
If you are of the belief that he can use it as motivation to do better? Fine. I agree. But he can use it for motivation just the same without talking about it.
Like I said. My initial anger is at Jeff Schultz for simply being the moron that he usually is. I’m not sure whether DOB wants that job or not (he’s damn good at the one he does), but most sports writers that cover and write about multiple sports for a newspaper usually sacrifice actual knowledge of each sport by trying to cover all of them.
When Jeff writes about the Braves, more often than not I question whether he has actually watched any games or paid any attention to them whatsoever. He’s usually that far off.
I feel like I (as a fan) have a pulse on what most Braves fans feel about Chipper and the few that question him doing it for money seem so few and far between. Yet Shultz dedicates the whole premise of a story about it, as though it’s the “talk of the town” and the entire sports world.
I’ll tell you this. The only fans that actually know what Chipper is making are the nutjobs like us on the blogs and most of us on the blogs and the callers to the radio shows have NOT been claiming Chippers out for a paycheck. Just not hearing or reading it.
I’m not angry at Chipper for feeling how he feels and saying what he said. I’m angry that he bothered to publicly respond to what Jeff was asking him to begin with. He fell for it hook, line and sinker. Now he looks like the one that’s pissing and moaning with the fans, BECAUSE of the headline that went with that story.

What’s your take? Do you think the majority of fans questioning his ability to comeback (I refuse to use the word hater – because I think one who is questioning him doesn’t necessarily have to be a hater – you understand.
), are questioning a 39 year old coming off of two “not up to Chipper Jones standards” seasons, and a major knee surgery and how it will affect the team?
Or are they in your mind questioning his monetary motivations?
Maybe I’m skewed in that MY angle is that I’m more concerned about his production, rather than worrying about his motivation to comeback.
I don’t really care WHY he’s coming back. I do however, care WHAT HE DOES when he comes back and how it helps (or hurts) the team.
But I just don’t see that many people questioning him doing it for the money.

Point is to ALL the Bloggers we are ALL Braves fans except for Philly Fan dont know why he would even post something here in the 1st place and WE ALL want Chipper to be productive and stay in the lineup but if he cant and it weighs down the team then its an ISSUE. Okay the mothers basement line made me laugh a little simply because apparently everyone in America uses it.
Playing it straight though, about the money, maybe he could have been more circumspect. He was asked about money though and made it clear he has plenty. No big deal, but coupled with the comments he made the other day about the union meeting saying maybe this is not a good time for guys to be buying a 5000 acre ranch, a million dollar house, or a hundred thousand dollar car. To those that dont know I am a United States Marine and have been for the last 12 years I dont want any Thank You’s or “Props” or whatever and will deploy to Afghan within the next year The Atlanta Braves have been a Mainstay in my life and Ive ALWAYS been Very passionate about whats going on with the team when others were talking about football I was talking about how Uggla’s power from the right side will free up some pressure on MAC to be the power go to guy with chipper out of the lineup and ext… Basically what Im saying is there are alot of people from all over the US that have their Foam Tomahawks and pay the wayyyyyyyy over priced like I do MLB Extra Innings just to watch their Braves Play and get on AJC and post their Frustractions, Happiness, Pain and every other emotion they may have about this team no matter if it was a Jab at me or acknowledgement for something Ive said Thank You for Sharing in my passion with me for this TEAM that is what makes US in my eyes anyway different from other MLB fans just like the Mainstay braves people feel like your apart of a FAMILY not just being another FAN!
