Did you see the beautiful sunrise picture that DOB took this morning from his apartment, overlooking Lake Bryan?
Talk about coincidence. I also took a sunrise picture this morning. Mine was from a window of my residence. Even though DOB and I are a few thousand miles apart, you won’t believe the remarkable similarities. You’d swear that I was in the apartment next to DOB’s.
Check it out.

With the pitching depth the 2011 Braves have, they need to score between 4- 5 runs on average per game and they will be “in” most games. With the current line up they should easily be able to score 4 – 5 runs. I see this team winning 90 – 100 games in 2011. GO BRAVES!
February 25th, 20118:42 pm
If the Braves average 5 runs per game, they will definitely win 100+ games.
That’s 810 runs per 162 games.

How can MLB give money like that to a team in NY…..A payroll over 100 million, let them go in firesale mode.

Good blog, DOB. I agree with SB funny stuff, so it’s decided I like Matt Young. Good luck kid.
Just caught up on reading all the comments, on the last blog, and this one. Everything I appreciate was on display, smart, funny, eclectic and enthusiastic commentary, thanks y’all.
Speaking of enthusiasm, I see McFann is fired up for The Atlanta MCCANN & co’s MLBaseball show, starring Brian McCann, start tomorrow. Woo Hoo! Heck Yeah!
Something I learned from the last blog. Robert claimed someone’s comment was the dumbest he has seen in a long time, presenting irrefutable proof he does not see/ (read) his own comments.
Something else, it seems Fish Bisch has found a role model/idol in Robert and Robert has two friends/pets in Fish Bisch and that jerome boogyman dude, or whatever his name is. How about that. I will say Robert does not resort to cussing others out when they give him hell ( well deserved it may be, still) credit where credit is due, kudos to Robert for that.
Something I already knew that has been reinforced, some people that get paid to write about baseball do not seem to bother doing much research before stating an opinion. Case in point, Brian McCann is regressing, swinging and missing more, striking out more the last two years. Hum, what’s up with that, well at least he can still slug and drive in runs. They must have used baseball reference for that insight. If they had been watching or talking to people close to the team they might have heard a little something about the eyepatch and cane. Ah, who cares the hell with ‘em.
February 25th, 20119:29 pm
No need to yell, Bat
February 25th, 20119:30 pm
Well Darn, I McFanned that one all to heck and gone.
Sorry about that.
McFann I forgot the at the end of heck yeah.
February 25th, 20119:35 pm
This is one of your very finest in my view, and I do not care (nor have yet read) what others might say or think about this post. To have Brooks Conrad speak so highly, that is about the highest praise that a player in Matt Young’s position can hear. Thank you for digging in to give us this story. Matt Young will be cheered for whatever opportunity or contribution he makes for ATL because of this story that you have given us. Also, you have allowed us to see the true Brooks Conrad stripes, yet again, thank you. To hear Brookds praise (realistically and honestly portrayed) someone who is competing for his spot on the 25 makes Brooks an even higher caliber than I previously perceived, and I was pretty high on him after the way he spoke of his maladies at season end.
Dave, you have given us a true inside with this post, Matt Young is to be highly praised, this take is way beyond the saying of the right things, it is a maturity and peace with his role and opportunity that has similarities with the character of Matt Diaz, which I believe is my higest praise. Thank you.

HECK to the YEAH!!
Well Darn, I McFanned that one all to heck and gone.
That’s like, the funniest thing I’ve read today…don’t know why, that wording was just hilarious.
Hi, Bruce! How’s everything? Ready for BASEBALL!!
February 25th, 20119:38 pm
Bat M. They must have used baseball reference for that insight. If they had been watching or talking to people close to the team they might have heard a little something about the eyepatch and cane.

The lawsuit filed by Mr. Picard in federal bankruptcy court in Manhattan in December portrays the Mets as something of a financial weak sister to Mr. Wilpon and Mr. Katz’s profitable real estate and television properties — regularly needing cash infusions from the other businesses to compete in the National League East.
Tom O’Hawke that’s what my sunrise looked like this morning too…
Kat, that’s because we only live a few miles away from each other.
After I viewed your picture, Kat, I reduced it to a smaller size. Then, my security system went crazy. All kinds of buzzers and bells went off. I was told to reboot so that the security could get rid of “all the trojan viruses”.

Its Called Dud Selig…I don’t know why he has not been investigated for all the scandals he’s been a part of…?
Could not see your link, jeffery. Knowing you that might might not be a bad thing.
February 25th, 20119:48 pm
What scandals, Tomahawkin?
February 25th, 20119:51 pm
I have Been Bozo’d from that link you Provided…in other words i can’t access it…
Bat, you know the story about the boy that cried “wolf”.
jeffrey is getting to be that boy, with his make-believe websites.
One of these days he’ll have a link to the greatest site in the history of the internet, and nobody will look.
Steroid/HGH Scandals, to name a few
February 25th, 20119:53 pm
Don’t know why that link didn’t work. Try this one
February 25th, 20119:54 pm
You may be on to something Tom O’. I’m done with him until he redeems himself.
February 25th, 20119:56 pm
Me too, Bat. Let T-Hawkin try that site to see if it’s legit.
February 25th, 20119:58 pm
Oh come on, I only do stuff like that when it’s obvious I’m joking.
Like today in the carnie’s lounge….somebody had left cupcakes for all the carnies, so when people were walking by I’d say “Have a cupcake, I made enough for everybody.”
February 25th, 20119:59 pm
Let T-Hawkin try that site to see if it’s legit
You mean Flickr? See if Flickr is legit?
I hate you guys.

In honor of tomorrow’s game…
The Night Before Baseball
‘Twas the night before baseball, when all through the land
Not a Braves fan could sleep, the first game at hand.
Their ball caps were hung by the TV with care
In hopes opening day soon would be there;
Their jerseys were cleaned and hung near their beds,
While visions of pennants danced in their heads;
Some thought of Chipper, some thought of McCann,
Others thought of Jason, Prado and Dan.
And on David’s blog there arose so much chatter,
With members assessing each pitcher and batter.
Some waned optimistic, some wallowed in gloom,
A few infiltrated and proclaimed the Braves’ doom.
Reports from the best beat writer by far,
Of marvelous feats performed at DarkStar,
Photos of Braves all fit and much thinner,
Led fans to believe this team is a winner!
In this Brave new world, with its brand new skipper,
A big Uggla stick and a resurging Chipper.
Martin has accepted a stint in left field,
While Schafer is nipping on Nate McLouth’s heel.
Now, Freeman! Now, Jair! Now, Tommy and Ross!
Now, Hinske! Now, Hudson! Let’s show them who’s boss!
On, Moylan! On, Eric! On, Gonzo and Jason!
On, Derek, let’s show them we’re not Philly chasin’!
Now, Minor! Now Beachy! Now, Schafer and Nate!
Now, Brooksie! Now, Matt! Let’s make our own fate!
To the top of the standings! Slam them over the wall!
The Braves are in town! By God, let’s play ball!
Crap, I didn’t realize it was that often. Sorry everybody.
Tom O’Hawke –well if it did, I’m not sure why..still works normal for me. Imageshack is a regular site…or at least has been in the past.

It would be amusing if she did the “Get Out The WAYYY!”
Yeah, well…just watch it from now on…
Just for the record, I didn’t make that up, just cleaned it up.

Another great creation, Poet!
Someone should copy and paste that before tomorrow’s first ST game. I’d do it, except I’ll be in a greenhouse watching the game (if I can get there through all this snow).
February 25th, 201110:22 pm
Hey McFann — I am doing quite well and thank you for asking. I am with great excitment and anticipation looking forward to both st games and the season. I appreciate your optimism and incredible encouragement and grace that you share with so many on this blog. Your demonstation of character is similar to our friend Matt Diaz, again,my highest baseball praise. May God continue to Bless You. Bruce
February 25th, 201110:23 pm
I love it!
February 25th, 201110:24 pm

I concur. And not only that, McFann can hit righties better.
February 25th, 201110:32 pm
Thanks, all! I’m really excited about tomorrow’s game. Hard to believe we are finally playing some ball!
February 25th, 201110:34 pm

Well, I don’t know about that…
No, seriously, thank you.
February 25th, 201110:35 pm
Tomahawkin, maybe you should get some help about your penchant for women’s clothing? I mean, it’s not your fault that you were forced to wear your sister’s clothes when you were young. I’m sure a therapist could help you come to terms with it.
…I smell Like Chinese Food after cooking (T-Hawkin)
I hope for your sake it’s not the Pu Pu Platter.
February 25th, 201110:39 pm
I’m thinking about doing the MLB.TV thingy for the game tomorrow. Anyone else thinking along those lines? I will get it for a month and then the Extra Innings Package from Directv takes over the regular season. It turns out you can get about 8 preseason game for $20 or $25. Only drawback is some will be on MLB network and some on ESPN. Somebody give me some thoughts on this.
February 25th, 201110:40 pm
I want To Hit Something after seeing this BS call in last years Playoffs when Bussy Posey Was out trying to steal 2nd
February 25th, 201110:41 pm

February 25th, 201110:42 pm

February 25th, 201110:49 pm

February 25th, 201110:52 pm
mcfann — i should have written admire rather than appreciate.
February 25th, 201110:53 pm
keylargo, I got the monthly MLBTV package and plan to cancel when my 30 days is up. Did the same last season. Go for it!
Just want to say thank you for the coverage this spring. Youve outdone yourself sir.
Closer to home story, it was another beautiful day today, started out with a little rain but then, perfection, low seventies, blue skies. I went over to check out the tourist beaches and hangouts between here and Destin, quite a few people on the beaches. Some nice wave action, 4 footers stacked up and breaking offshore a little, there where some guys with short boards riding them, nice to see.
Came back in the late afternoon to a beach access close to home, just siting on a rail taking in the sights, sounds, smells, happy to be there. A guy walks up, leans on the rail and says, ‘ I heard there has been a lot of algae in the water, it does not look bad to me, it was bad when I was here last year’.
So I told him it was worse earlier in the week, not really bad now you can barely smell it. There was a lot of bioluminescence from the algae, that’s fun to see, but anyway the water was a lot more screwed up last year, period. Then he got all conspiratorial and said, ‘I’m a toxicologist, specifically an aqua-toxicologist, and what is needed here is( are?) a couple of cat-one hurricanes. Mix that water up, get that oxygen down deep, fix things right up.
Then I told him about a report I had read this week about all the oil sitting on the bottom out there, the dead sea-life and lack of oxygen preventing the microbes from eating the oil. Also my concerns about the dead zones growth. Then aqua-man said, ‘that body of water is amazing it will fix itself, with in a year everything will be fine. I’ll be out here tomorrow on the beach and will enjoy eating the fish I have been catching’. So I said ‘ you have been catching some fish, that’s good’. He said ‘yep, see you’ and walked off.
I wondered why, if he had been fishing, he was not more aware about the algae but did not bother to ask. I watched him walk out to his truck and drive off, he must have forgotten to take the BP decal off the passenger side door. Ah what the hell, everybody has to make a living.
As an aside on the bioluminescence , there was a woman quoted in the paper, saying ‘ when I saw it I thought I must have had to much wine’. If they had asked me, and I was not familiar with the phenomenon, I would have gone with, ‘acid flashback’.

A nice twitter post by Andrew Marchand:
“Even if the Wilponzis can get out of $$ mess, the public trust is gone, making ownership very difficult.”

February 25th, 201110:58 pm
There’s Bat giving the NWFDN more publicity! I liked the photo that ran with that story. I’ll have to get out there and check out the “light show” for myself one of these nights.
February 25th, 201111:00 pm
S/O To Crime Dogg!!!
Brava – did you cancel after one month? I have the Directv Package allready but it is regular season and playoffs only. That’s the only problem I foresee – getting the automatic deduction stopped.

February 25th, 201111:03 pm

February 25th, 2011
Wonderful, thank you.
Moe – 9:40 sorry
February 25th, 201111:08 pm
keylargo, I signed up for the monthly subsciption. Last year, I notified them by email on the 26th day of my subscription that I wished to cancel. They acknowledged my cancellation and told me that my access would continue for four more days. I don’t think there is a problem with cancellation, as long as you give them at least three days notice. If you don’t, it will automatically renew and you will be charged for another month.
February 25th, 201111:09 pm
keylargo–Do you mean at 9:40? I already knew about the MLB loan. I had posted a link to it at 9:05. Just liked the ‘Wilponzi’s’ construction.
“We had the midget mafia over at second base — me, him and Brooks,” Young said. Then he laughed. “I think they just want to hang out with me as much as possible so they can look down on someone.”
