Also, if the Braves did not have Lowe’s salary on the books, it wouldn’t necessarily mean they’d go out and spend that money on another bat.

If you had an alternative, then you are right, it wouldn’t be a bad idea. But when the alternative is Brandon Beachy, Kenshin Kawakami or Rodrigo Lopez; then it’s not such a good deal.

Lowe is here to stay (now, we will hear in about 30 minutes that they have dealt him to the Yankees for prospects……….).

And if you will remember, back 2 months ago, I was saying we need to hang onto KK into the spring, to give him a chance to increase his value (to the Braves or as a trade piece).

it sure would be nice if KK was in camp. doesn’t exactly help his trade value if he’s a week or two or three behind every other starting pitcher in baseball. If some other team trades for him towards the end of spring training, they’re gonna want someone ready to give ‘em a respectable 5 to 6 in the first week or two of the season.

Actually, I was just telling my sons and their friends (all Jazz fans) that I thought now would be the time to deal D-Will. Didn’t call the Nets though. He has played uninspired for the entire year. Seems to be doing whatever he can to get a ticket out of town. Was probably somewhat responsible for Jerry Sloan calling it quits.

It is hard to get a young star to stay in Utah. Let’s face it, the state is lily white, has NO nightlife to speak of, and it’s cold. Though I love it here, I can see where a young man in his prime would want to be elsewhere. Deron was not asking to be dealt, but it was clear that he wasn’t going to re-up in a year and a half. And the Jazz brass have never stayed too long with a player that didn’t want to be here.

Personally, I prefer those spicy little Chi-wa-wa’s! (sp)

my point is that Beachy, Minor and Teheran have almost no experience (Teheran has pitched exactly 7 games about A ball) so we really have no idea if they are capable (I think they will be, and maybe this year, but I’m not going to test that theory unless absolutely necessary- and right now, it’s not necessary)

Geeze…I say that trading a $15 million, so-so pitcher might not be the worst thing that could happen to the Braves,

D Lowe’s era may be so-so his first two years here, but his overall benefit to the team has been more than so-so. He’s given us more wins these last two seasons here than he gave L.A. in his last two seasons when they made the playoffs. He’s been a big asset to this team, maybe more than his so-so era is indicative of.

No doubt D-Will is a great player. Probably one of the 2-3 best points in the league. I hate that we will have to move on without him. But I am a long term fan. I don’t think he would have brought us a title in the next two seasons, so better to cut your losses and get something for him.

The take could be great, or it could be a bust. Depends on the kid Favors and his development. Also, the Jazz seem to generally do a good job of drafting good talent, so the 2 picks could be huge.

Again, the biggest drawback is to get a player who actually wants to fit in Utah. The locals here want the kid out of BYU, but I am not sure he has a NBA game??

D Lowe’s era may be so-so his first two years here, but his overall benefit to the team has been more than so-so.

Lowe got by far the most run support from the Braves offense last year. I like his contribution, IP and wins, but KK got almost two runs less per game than Lowe. I’m not giving anyone grief, but Lowe had a lot of help last year.

I always thought JoJo would be worth hanging onto (lefty, with some talent). Sometimes those guys figure it out eventually.

Also, I have not been as down on KK as others. I think he has pitched in some gosh awful luck in his two years here. If it were my team, he’d get a full shot for the 5th slot this spring.

I think all that happened last year probably was the final nail in the KK/Braves coffin though.

Too bad really, as he seemed to be a good clubhouse/team guy when he first arrived.

I know you probably missed it but I said earlier that during his whole stint here KK has been screwed in the run support department and maybe a fresh start for him somewhere else maybe good for him. I know the deal with the run support, I was one of the main ones defending KK this year during his 0-for streak in wins. My point is that while one pitcher showed signs of hope to end the season, the other couldn’t be found at all. The braves basically gave up on him, not me. But if it comes down to a choice between Lowe and KK, I will pick Lowe, salary and all, especially given the way Lowe performed down the stretch.

Once again, KK is not as bad as others have made him out to be but for some reason his stint with the braves hasn’t been productive for the team even if the majority of it isn’t on him.

I liked what I saw of Beachy last September too! Minor was impressive, until he wimped out near the end. I say wimped out because there are other things he could have said or should have said, that would have made him look less like a wimp.

Trey

February 23rd, 2011

DS1, I was always scared when Reyes came in to pitch. The thing is that he was a good pitcher in the minors and everyone had high expectations of him and he just didn’t do it while in the Braves organization. We had him for three and a half years before trading him and he never figured it out.

I was excited to see Kawakami in a Braves uniform when we first got him, because he had such an upbeat personality. At first, I wasn’t down on him, but thoughout his time with the Braves, I have become more and more disappointed in him.

They may give him a slim chance to get his spot back, but yeah, I wouldn’t count on it.

He did have a great and happy personality.

Most everybody remembers the lousy appearances that Reyes had for the Braves (about 60-70 percent of the time, he totally sucked). I remember the good outings. When he was good, that’s what made me wonder if he could maintain it.

But alas, it was not to be. I hope he figures it out eventually, so that I will look like a baseball prophet!

The 50 Most Memorable Moments of the 1990s. Not surprisingly, the Braves are featured heavily.

Also not a surprise, pretty much every memory is a bad one.

Thanks again Bobby. No, really.

Eighteen winning seasons in twenty years, four Hall of Famers to be, six Cy Young awards, fourteen consecutive division titles and all for what?

An enduring legacy of playoff failure and futility. You might even say stupidity. Why not? It rhymes.

Two things: If Medlen was coming back closer to mid-season, I think the Braves would be likely to deal Lowe right now. But he ain’t. Saw where some people were saying if the Yanks stepped up with one of Swisher, Granderson, or Gardner, Braves would make the move, but I don’t know. Maybe in a month if McSchafer’s woes don’t reverse themselves. Obviously a Granderson or Gardner would be amazing, but I don’t know that there’s a need for that at the moment, especially if we have to keep paying McLouth on top of that addition. Personally I’m hoping Wren waits for the winter and deals one of our more established guys for some stud prospects and a couple gambles, though I know that’s the kind of thing people hate to see…

Second thing, revisiting Magic Potion by The Black Keys. Forgot how awesome it is. Lately it’s just been Attack and Release and, obviously, Brothers…but this is bringing it at the moment.
