If Lopez is even serviceable I could see him being trade bait 10P

if someone wanted him why would they not just sign him to a minor league contract instead of trade for him. Seems like the expensive way to get him and oesn’t make a lot of sense to me

because the braves got him first. there was competition for his services when the braves signed him, dont forget. and lopez’s value can go up depending on what needs a team has, and how lopez is piching in the minors, or out of the bullpen.

In related news, McLouth knocked the Hannah Montana covers off his bed this morning. He brought them in to show JS, saying “This is what you have to look forward to this year.”

I read that preview on the Braves from Yahoo sports and I can honestly say I disagree with their prediction on the Phillies running away with the division. Yes they added Lee but like we’ve stated on here Werth leaving will affect that line-up. The Braves added Uggla, and I see our pitching being even better than last year. Hanson has another year under his belt, Lowe seemed to figure something out at the end of last season which hopefully will carry over to this year. The Bulldog will be his usual dominating self with more stamina toward the end of the season unlike last year where you could tell he was getting tired. JJ will hopefully rebound and get more wins than last year, and Minor looks to be the real deal, especially as a 5th starter.

Guys we won 91 games without Chipper and Prado for the last month or so and nothing from our 1st base position except for like a month when Glaus was roping. Who can honestly say this line-up isn’t going to be better than last year with Uggla, Heyward, Prado, McCann, and hopefully a healthy Chipper. Not to mention Freeman will be better than Glaus even if he struggles some and Gonzalez will be better than Escobar was last year. I have a really good feeling this team will be fighting for a division title up until September and in my opinion WILL WIN the NL East in 2011. Mark.it.Down. Febuary 1st 2011 BravePack said it.

you could be right, but i think it WAS the impetus for the deal, hoping to capitalize on a need later in the season. the fact that the braves have quite a logjam of pitchers supports my way of thinking, in my opinion. signing him to help the team seems just as far fetched if not more than signing him in hopes of building his value and flipping him.

BravePack… I think your opinion is closer to the truth than Braves’ fans who have already conceded the division to the Phils. No doubt the Phils rotation is superior, but the Braves’ rotation could possibly feature four 15-game winners and the Braves’ bullpen is better than Philly’s (Yes, I know Kimbrel still needs to prove himself, but I think he will – and the rest of the bullpen is solid).

Phils have an edge offensively, but here, again, if everything falls right for the Braves, they could have a solid offense. Defense… the Braves are so-so; Phils are better.

Yeah, sure, the Phils are, indeed, the pre-season favorites to take the division. But writing off the Braves’ chances at the division title is premature. 162 games is a long season.

When I first moved here the framing just blew my mind. 5/8 threaded rods from the foundation through the wall to the roof every where through out the house and the porches. Straps, joist hangers, plywood nailed every 4 inches on all the walls. No styrofoam sheathing here. 150 MPH wind resistant doors and windows. The list goes on and on.

The cost of the windows and doors alone, on the average Watercolor or Watersound development cottage cost more than my very nice (3300 sq ft under roof) plantation style home in Ga.

some interesting offensive rankings from 2010. the braves were 5th in the league in runs scored (738), behind the reds (790), phillies (772), rockies (770), and brewers (750). the braves had the highest OBP of those teams and the lowest slg% of those teams.

my guess that those 5 teams, plus the cardinals will be in the mix for top 5 offenses next year. so, which teams out of the braves, phillies, rockies, cardinals, brewers, and reds actually improved offensivly?

my prediction has been bold. i think the braves score 800 runs in 2011. it doesnt seem far fetched for them to be the best in the NL.

Bobby Hill

I don’t think its revisionist history to say that most people on here were optimistic about the Braves chances to win the division a year ago.

A year ago everyone was talking about the Braves’ rotation as the best in the National League. The rebuilt bullpen looked really solid assuming Saito and Wagner could stay healthy. Everyone was going gaga over Heyward and his spring training moon shots. Everyone was expecting a big year from McLouth and Yunel. Glaus looked to be a high upside low risk signing. KK was set to have an improved year after adjusting to MLB, and Chipper was healthy.

No one expected McLouth to suck as bad as he did. No one expected Melky to play as much as he did. No one expected Jurrjens to have an awful year. No one expected Lowe to suck for most of the year. No one expected Prado and Chipper to go down in the way that they did.

Even as bad as the 2010 team was at times (when they were awful, they were really awful) they still led the division most of the summer and made the playoffs. The 2010 team was a good team that was never able to put it all together because of injury and bad luck, and whatever happened to Mclouth.

I did not buy or build a house ( for myself) in those ST Joe developments, though I did get burned on a lot in the River Camps one. Seemed like a good idea at the time, no flipping involved and it may pay off in ten years or so.

St Joe did alright for awhile, but things got out of hand fast. I don’t know how they could have stopped people from flipping those lot and houses, really. That said they screwed up (IMO) trying to build cheap, too. I had a friend that bought a lot in Watersound, closest to the beach by the dunes, won a lottery drawing and paid 450k. Sold it three years later for a cool million bucks.

I have to admit I did well here, made a lot of money but I knew it was going to crash, how could it not. I almost bought a house in 06, wooded area five or six blocks from the beach. 1736 sq feet, no garage or carport, no fireplace no built in bookcases or anything really. 3 bedrooms 3 baths, not bad but nothing special either, 580K. Thankfully I said the hell with all that and walked away.

“By the way, I mentioned to Chipper today that his talking about knee tendinitis yesterday brought out another round of skepticism on the blog, Twitter, etc. He kind of smirked and said, “Tell ‘em I’m gonna be in the lineup Opening Day.””

Oh, I don’t doubt for a second that he’ll be in the opening day lineup.

How many games will he last and and how will his surgically repaired, 39 year old knee hold up? That’s my concern.

But in fairness to Chipper, the blog was full of the same questions about Tim Hudson last year at this time and I never doubted he’d be fine. But he was also 18 months removed from the surgery and had gotten some live pitching in the previous September. So there was something to go off of, that showed with some luck with his health, Hudson was “back”.

Unfortunately, until Chipper has to go full speed ahead for a few weeks at a time (something I doubt he seriously does in spring training or exhibition games), we just won’t know.

But I like his confidence. Better than him sulking about it, shrugging and saying he doesn’t know how it will respond.

Good for him (and us if he’s right).

really? In my actual experience it is the way it almost always works. They have already told David that they signed him as possible #5 backup and that makes a whole lot more sense to me that that they think another team might end up trading a player for some guy they could have gotten for next to nothing and NO player.
