Anders, sweet Anders, Oliver Perez and his contract are funny and all, but jokes about them don’t make me pee myself. Sure, calling Perez a “specialist” in anything other than losing is funny, but not that funny.

I had a trickle fall down my leg after reading about the financial troubles the Mets are finding themselves in, but after a quick glance at their roster, well, let’s just say my bladder is empty. Nothing left for any Oliver Perez jokes.

To repeat, Braves signed Rodrigo Lopez for rotation depth. Minor league deal. Minor/Beachy remain primary 2 candidates for No. 5 starter

I like the move. The guy’s a veteran pitcher who could fill in if a youngin struggles or if a starter goes down. With Medlen out for most of the season its a good signing. Someone who can give us some innings if needed.

Great depth move, Lopez. If things get tight due to injuries, it could keep us from rushing a youngster up and into the rotation before he’s ready.

I think the signing means Kawakami will be traded for sure during spring. It makes absolute no sense to not trade him if we have no plans of using him. Trade him and save a few mil. Why pay him almost 7 mil to do nothing when u can give him to another team and only pay around 3 mil.

I am OBP, the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of triple crown stats, from the house where fans watch games. You shall have no other stats besides OBP.

Do not make any image or any likeness of anything related to baseball. It will be a waste of your time to draw pictures or write poetry and songs about baseball. OBP on a spreadsheet is all you need.

Do not swear falsely by the name of OBP. Rather, swear completely by the name of OBP.

Remember the OBP and keep it holy.

Honor your OBP and walk rates.

Do not murder OBP by not avoiding outs.

Do not commit adultery with any other stats.

Do not steal bases.

Do not bear false witness. The best way to never bear false witness is to never witness a game.

Do not covet your neighbor’s stats.

Chippers baserunning stats were one of the best on the team and in the top 20% or so of all baseball last year. Granted we do not know what it will be like with the injury, but he has always been a very good baserunner even as he has lost some of the early speed.

Nolie – We were all getting along so well. I will summarize what I said.

1. Chipper has been a great player

2. When healthy he has been great until the last two years but has been dinges up for parts of 7 years.

3. When you take in account his missing almost 25% of games the last 7 years his production has gone down. Started a big discussion on triple crown stats vs new advanced stats.

4. I think Chipper is aloof and could be a better leader.

5. I said I understood the reason Wren offered the fours years with all that went on that off season but that it was not necessarily a good business decision.

6. I said hitting third this year should have nothing to do with performance form the distant past.

7. I compared his HRs, RBIs and AVE to Pedro Feliz to show they were not a lot better than a journeyman because of injuries.

8. After DOB basically said that was rediculus I used Lance Berkman.

My point about a strong left fielder was if Chipper had retired we would have had 14 mil to go get that guy and I would feel better about the line up.

My take on BRAVES thinking in regard to RODRIGO LOPEZ:

Starting off the season, AAA SP is pretty thin. None of REDMOND, GUSTAFSON, ORTEGANO, REYNOSO looked that great last season, or in winter ball. And the one best up and comer we had was lost in the rule 5 – DIAMOND. We need proven depth down on the farm in AAA temporarily. And there’s always…….well maybe the kinks are finally worked out of his arm after three years of rehab and work [ineffective work primarily]. Let’s take a chance. Maybe something’s there we can use right now.

Glord – I grew up a Royals fan (George Brett & Company). George is, was and will always be my all-time favorite player. I would say Mike Schmidt was his NL equal.

I have George’s stats for the last 7 years of his career. He won the batting title in 1990 at a .329 clip. While I’m not positively sure when he went to full-time DH..which I think was like either 87, or 88, or 89…he played 1st base for some time, after being the Royals 3rd baseman.

Year/Games/Avg/RBI/HR

87 – 115/.290/78/22/
88 – 157/.306/103/24
89 – 124/.282/80/12
90 – 142/.329/87/14
91 – 131/.255/61/10
