The timing of it is actually a little funny.
January 26th, 20118:31 pm
How are the Braves are going to compete with the phillies, they needed another outfield bat but sat there and did nothing when a couple of productive bats was still on the free agent market, anybody added at this point would have no significance.I don’t give a damn who’s the hitting coach they haven’t did enough.
January 26th, 20118:33 pm
jeffrey d: (whispering) actually, what I think is…
Trey: ATTENTION EVERYBODY! …..
“they haven’t did enough.” – Mike10
No they haven’t not did…. not nearly enough not done.
January 26th, 20118:35 pm
Who do you think the Braves could have signed? After locking up Uggla and dealing with the Arb players, there was not enough left in the budget to get a front line player…any free agent left was most likely going to command a contract beyond the Braves capabilities…
January 26th, 20118:36 pm
total BS.If you aren’t Robert, you nned some help
Ahh, that 1-for-14 thing is the same attitude of the folks who think every AB that ends in an out is because the hitter is dog-bleep, who think that every dinger given up by a pitcher is because HE’s dog-bleep, and blah blah blah. They focus on the result and confuse that with ability. Mostly from a lack of understanding, mostly people who probably couldn’t stand up straight in a pair of cleats.
You’d hope that some time spent on this blog with eyes wide and mind open would fix that, but the forum seems less efficacious at such than one might hope.
Jeff Teague sighting.
any free agent left was most likely going to command a contract beyond the Braves capabilities…
You’re even starting to comment like VJ now
January 26th, 20118:37 pm
Is he still on the team?
jeffrey, you’re making me feel bad. (tear)
After reading Roberts rants I did a header off the stage down under…….
January 26th, 20118:38 pm
Maybe he’s been a goon influence on me? Nah-just trying to be polite
January 26th, 20118:39 pm
and then I go and say “goon” instead of “good”
January 26th, 20118:40 pm
I’d be disappointed if Ward turned out to be not real. Ward was someone who never really resorted to insults or anything when people accused him of being fake or anything else. He is/was a level headed guy.
That’s usually the #1 telltale sign that it’s a fake character. You don’t care when your friends insult your fake character, so you don’t defend yourself when you get attacked under the fake name. Now if they did that to you under your real name, you’d chop their damn heads off. So if you suspect it’s a fake character, pick a fight with it. If it doesn’t fight back, then it’s probably a friend who won’t take cheap shots at you with a mask on. Once you realize that, smile, let it go, and let your friend have his fun.
That of course is true only if you are using the fake character for kicks and not to screw with folks you ain’t got the balls to mess with under your real name. You can usually tell those folks in one of two ways: 1. No one knows who the hell they are but they come out swinging with the ferocity of someone who’s been bearing a grudge against folks around here for a long time; or 2. Pick a fight with them. People are who they are. They can go into character, but once provoked, they’re likely to use alot of the same tactics they’ve used under their real names. If you happen to be the type around here who’s fought with alot of folks with enough frequency and intensity, it won’t be long before you figure out the real name of the fake character when you pick a fight with the fake character.
Proofread, damn it! PROOFREAD!!
I meant the “…” at the end
Trey – haha, I promise you it’s no big deal.
Apparently, he is. Still on the court too – I’m impressed. Bibby must be in foul trouble or something.
goon influence was much funnier.
Ok sorry I asked…..
January 26th, 20118:41 pm
cab called VJ a goon.
it actually made me giggle
January 26th, 20118:42 pm
he hasn’t seen it yet though…
Any word on getting those words shaved in his head?
January 26th, 20118:43 pm
NOT TRUE! I said he’d been a goon influence, not that he’s a goon!
There it is again!
The D and the N key aren’t even close to each other. No way that’s a typo.
getting him to the barber is step number one…
January 26th, 20118:44 pm
Jeffrey, yeah I know. I was just kidding, I did it on purpose.
what does RROE stand for ?
January 26th, 20118:45 pm
I was typing and not looking- you’d be surprised at the number of times I hit random keys and never notice…and the second time was intentional because Soph was misquoting me!
I think ward would be pleased with the turnout for his wake. Even scoots made an appearance.
January 26th, 20118:46 pm
Dentz was the goon influence for me, LOL. The guy could turn me into a nostrils-flared, red-faced, fists-curled maniac in about 8 seconds. It shames me to admit it, but there it is.
January 26th, 20118:47 pm
Really Rough Obscene Entercourse?
January 26th, 20118:49 pm
The guy could turn me into a nostrils-flared, red-faced, fists-curled maniac in about 8 seconds scoots
there it is, there are a lot of peeps who get mad once in a while we most all have a perp or two that irritates the hell out of us.
Every community needs a mascot, Bat. ward seemed as good as any, I guess. His demise doesn’t hit me like, say, losing my dog, but I can feel a twinge in there. Buried prety deep, maybe, but I can feel it.
January 26th, 20118:51 pm
I’m guessing he will be back tonight on the late shift
January 26th, 20118:53 pm
Shouldn’t somebody say a few words?
January 26th, 20118:54 pm
a few words.
January 26th, 20118:55 pm
“RROE” once stood (and perhaps still does, for that poster) for “Rookie Rules Of Engagement”. An excellent post made years ago, as a tongue-in-cheek guide to new contributors in the forum. Alas, the last couple-three years, too many of the new contributors here would have spat on it, methinks. Guidelines were too civilized for the confrontational among us.
January 26th, 20118:57 pm
yeah I couldn’t remember just what it was scoots, thanx
Well scoots in not the depth of the feelings that matter, after all not everyone had the chance to get to know ward well. It’s the acknowledgement that he was one of us and he will be missed.
You know scoots, he could do that to about 4 people at one time and never get you confused with the other three. He really a true nut case, but he is a “special” nut case.

This from somebody with a blog ranking catchers for fantasy baseball:
#4: Brian McCann [Mauer, Martinez, and Posey were 1, 2, and 3] McCann has been considered the best hitting catchers in the National League for the last couple of years, but last year was pretty ugly. His .269 average was 20 points lower than his career average, despite having an average .297 BABIP. His isolated power dropped significantly while his line drive percentage stayed about the same, which could suggest that some bad luck hurt him. McCann had some issues with LASIK eye surgery that could be worked out by this year, and at the age of 27 I expect a major improvement from McCann. I’d still put him outside of the top tier of Mauer, Martinez, and Posey, but he’s the next best guy. He should be a very good value pick because of his bad 2010 season, and snagging him in round 4-6 could end up being a very good idea.
Good lord…that’s a bit on the harsh side, thank you very much. His “bad” 2010? My goodness…no, it wasn’t his best, but it was hardly “bad” and “pretty ugly”…
“I’d still put him outside of the top tier of Mauer, Martinez, and Posey”…Oh, so Posey’s “top tier” after half a season, but McCann’s not after 5 full seasons, 5 All-Star Games, and 4 Silver Sluggers? Brother…
most narcissists are above average in intelligence
January 26th, 20119:02 pm
It’s fantasy baseball, guys an idiot McFann.
Let’s let Posey play a full season before announcing him the next coming.
We’re having a wake for ward.
Why thank you Nolie!
January 26th, 20119:03 pm
Lord, forgive all those who spoke badly of ward. He only wanted others to love his Braves and have peace. He was a fine man,Lord.
ncscoots, I always thought that the RROE were a tool of totalitarian elitist bloggers who had adopted some misguided sense of entitlement that the blog should conform to their collective neuroses, meant to intimidate the meek and crush the impudent.
but that’s just me, lol.
you’re so sure Bat I’m beginning to suspect you
Bat, I’m not expected to speak the wake, am I?
January 26th, 20119:04 pm
Oh, you meant Len**. I’m disappointed.
I always liked ward.
January 26th, 20119:05 pm
blog Fascists rule !
Mike, yeah, the RROE was that, too, LOL. We just don’t bring up that particular spin too often.
January 26th, 20119:06 pm
glad I’ve been reading along, if not posting…
richbrave.. how about them Spiders… one tough team man…Gil in Mechanicsville
I see you caught their latest show on ESPNU. Virtuoso performance if I do say so myself.
Sorry I missed your post man. Let’s roll over to LYNCHBURG when an interesting matchup is on the venue this summer.
And for Q I recommend “Q” over here by my place. DADGUM put me on it, and I really like it. Went to EXTRA BILLY’s last week before I viewed TRUE GRIT, and it’s really moribund man. The place was really slow.
Hope you had a good holiday season. Post up more often. We miss your reasoned approach to baseball here. I mean really…….
January 26th, 20119:07 pm
KL, I gotta admit that your boy came back in the second half and had a pretty good season even if his splits were large, he brought his away stats up to adequate. we’ll see if he can keep them up.
January 26th, 20119:09 pm
Everyone should feel free to say something about ward. I’m an old time Peace Trainer and I’m pretty broke up over it.
But criminal Minds in on now so I have to go watch it. I’ll be back later with some whiskey.
well he had a good year in ‘zona all season, but his away numbers improved some the second half i believe
Does that mean you saw my post?
January 26th, 20119:11 pm
Ward, and uga-brave go hand in hand.
January 26th, 20119:12 pm
Uga has an aversion no doubt
Nolie – I’ve got something for you to look at with views on splits. Check KJ out in 07 home and away.
January 26th, 20119:16 pm
Bat M. It’s fantasy baseball, guys an idiot
Definitely a little scrambled upstairs…in that area, at least…
Oh…my bad! Was I inappropriate?
January 26th, 20119:17 pm
You mean to tell me they could not get Andrew for 2 mill,Vlad,Manny, any one of these three could help this club. One may not be a choir boy but choir boys haven’t gotten the braves anywhere.
Buster Posey is friggin’ awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Top tier e-friggin’-lite!!!!
I would normally like that guy, but the hype is a bit much.
They should’ve given McCann a cool name like Buster or Mickey or Chubs or Chipper or something like that when he was coming along. If Buster Posey’s name was Edward Posey, would the media cream their pants at the mere mention of his name?
Eff Buster Posey, and his World Series ring. He was out at second base, but Bobby called him safe, so it’s all Bobby’s fault.
January 26th, 20119:18 pm
Not at all McFann.
Would you care to share something about ward?
McFann, as always. Joking.
January 26th, 20119:21 pm
But I’m also thankful that Posey’s nickname is Buster so that I’ll never have to hear Chris Berman call him something stupid like Pocket-Full-Of-Posey
January 26th, 20119:22 pm
his home weas less than his away that year not all that surprising since the Ted can be a pitcher’s park. There is always some variation, 220 is a bit high.at one time earlier this season his home was 1200 and his awat was under 700. so it ended up more even than it was. I think in a “normal” park he is a 775-825 hitter most years
January 26th, 20119:24 pm
Neither Vlad or Andruw can play full time center field anymore, and I don’t want Manny anywhere near my clubhouse- the guy is a selfish, me-me-me player and i do not want that attitude around my young guys
January 26th, 20119:27 pm
“Uga has an aversion no doubt”
I think he has good intentions, as well.
You mean to tell me they could not get Andrew for 2 mill,
prolly could have, obviously didn’t want to. he is the first outfielder in 90 years to have hit 230 or less in 4 straight years. That’s historic in the wrong way. only a team like the Yanks with money to waste on chances would really afford to pay a hitter like he now is that kinda money. He will likely hit a fair number of homers up there since it is that kinda park. that would have no bearing at all on what he might hit in Atlanta.
January 26th, 20119:29 pm
Braveheart I would normally like that guy, but the hype is a bit much.
I’d say “I agree”, but I’m not sure if that accurate…I mean, I can’t honestly say that I would like him…because even without the hype I prob’ly wouldn’t.
They should’ve given McCann a cool name…
Hmm…why didn’t the media ever latch onto “Heap”?
Posey was out at second base, but Bobby called him safe, so it’s all Bobby’s fault.
You got that right!!
Thanks! Something about ward, eh? Well…I didn’t know him very well, but I do believe he never meant to make anybody mad or pick fights. Just wanted to talk Braves, and, in this Blog, isn’t that what really matters?
Mr. Funny Man…

I completely understand, all Im saying is sometimes you just have to take risk if you want to win.

Fairbanks Alaska temp range: -66 to 94 (according to National Geo)
January 26th, 20119:32 pm
Amazing Grace the bagpipes wail…
or Danny Boy if you prefer
January 26th, 20119:33 pm
McFann, I just thought about this, but you are a good artist. You should consider working in a tattoo parlor one day.
January 26th, 20119:34 pm
Manny’s not worth the risk. The fact that he signed for only $1 million tells me his options were extremely limited and there were only a very few teams that were willing to take a flier on him. As for the other guys, I have always liked both of them, but I think even $2 million is too much for a part timer- in the AL they will both get more at bats as DHs then they would in Atlanta
January 26th, 20119:35 pm
I’m happy that Andruw is in Yankee Stadium. I wanted him back here despite the reasons for not doing that. But I’m glad he’s gonna get a chance to hit in a lineup and stadium that will let him pad his homer totals. Will make whatever chances he has for the HOF stronger. He still hits fastballs pretty well. Still got the problem with the slider low and away though. Hopefully, in that lineup, he’ll see alot of fastballs. If it doesn’t work out in the Bronx to some respectable level though, he can kiss his HOF chances goodbye (at least until his 15th season on the ballot). It won’t be very good for his HOF chances if he has another high profile bust of a season in a major market like he had in Los Angeles.
January 26th, 20119:37 pm
Braveheart, but he still has to cut back on strike outs.
January 26th, 20119:38 pm
You should consider working in a tattoo parlor one day.
I’d send a note to her parents recommending they put her on restriction with no TV
I an ward, hear me roar!
January 26th, 20119:41 pm
Willie Nelson’s version of Amazing Grace is wonderful
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBPchkXsyuY (yes, it is the version that was on Lost but I love it)
January 26th, 20119:42 pm
keylargo, there are some decent tattoo parlors out there, lol.
January 26th, 20119:43 pm
yes it is, but no bagpipes for ward’s demise CAB?
ok I’m sure nobody cares but I added 2 seats to my season ticket package and moved 2 rows closer to the field 2nd row on the aisle right next to the bullpen. I’m even more exicted now!!!
I love them, but bagpipes are too depressing, nolie.
January 26th, 20119:44 pm
I can see McF drilling pictures of Mr ed on tough old cowboys. She’ll fit right in there
Does ward get a 21-gun blog salute for being such an astute blogger?
January 26th, 20119:45 pm
Gee I bet that’s why they play them at funerals gal
I’ve looked at the last couple of pages what exactly happened to ward?
and keylargo what do you fly? I have an old skyhawk.
January 26th, 20119:46 pm
tiger, everyone is joking and acting like Ward met his demise.
January 26th, 20119:47 pm
whatever happened to the idea of a small vertical take off plane?
January 26th, 20119:48 pm
I don’t like depressing funerals- I think they should be a celebration of life, not a sad event. When my uncle died, after the service, we went back to the house and made margaritas and had a BBQ because that’s what he always loved to do. When I die, I am going to make sure my family and friends throw me a party (or a Jazz funeral, which I have always thought was an awesome way to send someone off)
January 26th, 20119:49 pm
Not that there is anyone that actually likes funerals…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
