How are the Braves are going to compete with the phillies, they needed another outfield bat but sat there and did nothing when a couple of productive bats was still on the free agent market, anybody added at this point would have no significance.I don’t give a damn who’s the hitting coach they haven’t did enough.

Mike10-

Who do you think the Braves could have signed? After locking up Uggla and dealing with the Arb players, there was not enough left in the budget to get a front line player…any free agent left was most likely going to command a contract beyond the Braves capabilities…

total BS.If you aren’t Robert, you nned some help

Ahh, that 1-for-14 thing is the same attitude of the folks who think every AB that ends in an out is because the hitter is dog-bleep, who think that every dinger given up by a pitcher is because HE’s dog-bleep, and blah blah blah. They focus on the result and confuse that with ability. Mostly from a lack of understanding, mostly people who probably couldn’t stand up straight in a pair of cleats.

You’d hope that some time spent on this blog with eyes wide and mind open would fix that, but the forum seems less efficacious at such than one might hope.

I’d be disappointed if Ward turned out to be not real. Ward was someone who never really resorted to insults or anything when people accused him of being fake or anything else. He is/was a level headed guy.

That’s usually the #1 telltale sign that it’s a fake character. You don’t care when your friends insult your fake character, so you don’t defend yourself when you get attacked under the fake name. Now if they did that to you under your real name, you’d chop their damn heads off. So if you suspect it’s a fake character, pick a fight with it. If it doesn’t fight back, then it’s probably a friend who won’t take cheap shots at you with a mask on. Once you realize that, smile, let it go, and let your friend have his fun.

That of course is true only if you are using the fake character for kicks and not to screw with folks you ain’t got the balls to mess with under your real name. You can usually tell those folks in one of two ways: 1. No one knows who the hell they are but they come out swinging with the ferocity of someone who’s been bearing a grudge against folks around here for a long time; or 2. Pick a fight with them. People are who they are. They can go into character, but once provoked, they’re likely to use alot of the same tactics they’ve used under their real names. If you happen to be the type around here who’s fought with alot of folks with enough frequency and intensity, it won’t be long before you figure out the real name of the fake character when you pick a fight with the fake character.

“RROE” once stood (and perhaps still does, for that poster) for “Rookie Rules Of Engagement”. An excellent post made years ago, as a tongue-in-cheek guide to new contributors in the forum. Alas, the last couple-three years, too many of the new contributors here would have spat on it, methinks. Guidelines were too civilized for the confrontational among us.

This from somebody with a blog ranking catchers for fantasy baseball:

#4: Brian McCann [Mauer, Martinez, and Posey were 1, 2, and 3] McCann has been considered the best hitting catchers in the National League for the last couple of years, but last year was pretty ugly. His .269 average was 20 points lower than his career average, despite having an average .297 BABIP. His isolated power dropped significantly while his line drive percentage stayed about the same, which could suggest that some bad luck hurt him. McCann had some issues with LASIK eye surgery that could be worked out by this year, and at the age of 27 I expect a major improvement from McCann. I’d still put him outside of the top tier of Mauer, Martinez, and Posey, but he’s the next best guy. He should be a very good value pick because of his bad 2010 season, and snagging him in round 4-6 could end up being a very good idea.

Good lord…that’s a bit on the harsh side, thank you very much. His “bad” 2010? My goodness…no, it wasn’t his best, but it was hardly “bad” and “pretty ugly”…

“I’d still put him outside of the top tier of Mauer, Martinez, and Posey”…Oh, so Posey’s “top tier” after half a season, but McCann’s not after 5 full seasons, 5 All-Star Games, and 4 Silver Sluggers? Brother…

They should’ve given McCann a cool name like Buster or Mickey or Chubs or Chipper or something like that when he was coming along. If Buster Posey’s name was Edward Posey, would the media cream their pants at the mere mention of his name?

Eff Buster Posey, and his World Series ring. He was out at second base, but Bobby called him safe, so it’s all Bobby’s fault.

his home weas less than his away that year not all that surprising since the Ted can be a pitcher’s park. There is always some variation, 220 is a bit high.at one time earlier this season his home was 1200 and his awat was under 700. so it ended up more even than it was. I think in a “normal” park he is a 775-825 hitter most years

You mean to tell me they could not get Andrew for 2 mill,

prolly could have, obviously didn’t want to. he is the first outfielder in 90 years to have hit 230 or less in 4 straight years. That’s historic in the wrong way. only a team like the Yanks with money to waste on chances would really afford to pay a hitter like he now is that kinda money. He will likely hit a fair number of homers up there since it is that kinda park. that would have no bearing at all on what he might hit in Atlanta.

Mike10-

Manny’s not worth the risk. The fact that he signed for only $1 million tells me his options were extremely limited and there were only a very few teams that were willing to take a flier on him. As for the other guys, I have always liked both of them, but I think even $2 million is too much for a part timer- in the AL they will both get more at bats as DHs then they would in Atlanta

Braveheart

January 26th, 2011

I’m happy that Andruw is in Yankee Stadium. I wanted him back here despite the reasons for not doing that. But I’m glad he’s gonna get a chance to hit in a lineup and stadium that will let him pad his homer totals. Will make whatever chances he has for the HOF stronger. He still hits fastballs pretty well. Still got the problem with the slider low and away though. Hopefully, in that lineup, he’ll see alot of fastballs. If it doesn’t work out in the Bronx to some respectable level though, he can kiss his HOF chances goodbye (at least until his 15th season on the ballot). It won’t be very good for his HOF chances if he has another high profile bust of a season in a major market like he had in Los Angeles.
