uga-brave, yeah, it has been pretty difficult for me to follow them much being in VA. I have noticed on the sports that it looks like they have been sliding down the standings. If they get at least one win that is two points right there and a tie is one point. Unless they are horrible the next two games, I believe they will win at least one of the two games.
It will be nice to come away with four points against the Rangers and Lightning. I can see it happening, but the Thrashers just need to focus.
richbrave, I believe it will be Nate. I don’t know about Schafer, as I don’t think he has much of a future. There is just something about Schafer that makes me see a bust. That’s what Nick calls it these days, right? The last three, I know nothing about.
MATHER……..if I remember his stats correctly, versitility first, glove second, bat third. He can play all three outfield slots and 2B, or so the scuttle-butt goes. An old navy slang expression. Still in use TREY?
“Not good enough to be a 4th OF in St. Louis. They didn’t dump him for $$$$ reasons.”
I will just wait until Spring Training before I see who will become a good fit. I don’t have much confidence in Schafer from his last season in Atlanta. You know he will be rusty.
Defense rarely slumps. This team needs Schafer’s D, not his bat. Up the middle w/ McCann, Uggla, AGon, and Nate? That’s brutal, but only reasonable place to improve is w/ JS over Nate.
Long time, no post. Been kinda busy, plus not much to talk about really.
DOB: I really enjoyed the writeup on Nate and the youngsters.
You heard it here first: (well, maybe not first, but you get the point) Logan Schafer will have a break out season in 2011. Will start to realize his potential. Will eventually make it hard to play McLouth full time.
Nolie – I didn’t say I was leaving for the night, I was just retreating for a while. I can actually play my music and blog at the same time if I feel like it.
I never bought in on the ped thing w/ Schafer. Smelled like a set up to me. Besides, he excelled AFTER the PED missed time in the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009.
The kid might never amount to anything. It’s really hard to say; he must prove it on the field. But I am puzzled by the quickness of some to write him off.
Now Barry Bonds, the PED was clear as the head on his shoulders.
DS1, I know he was hurt, but I just don’t have high expectations for him. I can’t, I don’t want to have high expectations for someone or something and get disappointed with a bust. I just rather wait to see how he will play before I get high hopes on the guy. I hope he does well, I really do, but I don’t expect much.
To me, Schafer seems more like the player that fans love to talk about and think he is going to be some sort of star and he ends up as your average fielder and hitter. However, this is just my opinion and I do not share the same views with a majority of other Braves fans with high hopes and expectations of him. He seems kind of like a player who can’t spend the good portion of his career on one team.
I understand what you’re saying. I agree. But just because I am more positive about what I think the kid will do, doesn’t mean my world will come crashing down if he doesn’t. I flat out LOVE the Braves, but my life is not defined by my expectations of how they do from year to year. Does that make sense?
I just choose to be positive about things. I think Nate, KK, Schafer, Chipper, Venters, and all others will have very good to great years. But if they don’t……well just say I ain’t turning into a Mitchell type over it.
uga
The PED was HGH, and though I am not an expert, I am guessing it didn’t stay in his system for ever. After getting suspended in the spring of 2008, he came back and had a killer AFL in fall of 2008. Then a great spring in 2009. Would the HGH have helped him that far out? I really don’t think so.
And through it all, it would have been easy for him to say “Hey, I used, I was caught, and I won’t do it again!” He was busted anyway. Why not fess up? But he never did? There was just a lot of alluding to the fact that maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time?
To be honest, I really don’t care. It’s history. Besides, if I had to be real money on guys like Chipper, Smoltz, etc being clean from the ped era, I wouldn’t. I think we all might be disappointed by some of the names on the A-Rod/Manny list.
Burritos are definitely great, but a chile relleno is hard to beat!
Besides him being a Braves high level prospect, Schafer just looks like a ballplayer. Except for that dumazz flat bill ballcap. To me, that looks flat out stoopid!
DS1, you do make sense in your views. I just don’t want to have high hopes in someone who has yet to be proven to be at least an average player.
I actually looked forward to Kawakami when he came to the Braves, because he seemed like such a positive person. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for having a little less than average first season, which was to be expected, just to come back in the next season not doing so hot. Granted, some of it was due to low run support but good pitchers can usually hold the opposing team to fewer runs than he gave up. I lost all confidence in Kawakami and I am glad he got sent down and we probably won’t have to see him next season.
I still have much faith in Chipper Jones, as he has always been great. He struggled the season after getting the batting title, and a little bit last year. He seemed to have found his groove before getting hurt. I think his hitting over 20 home runs in a season are pretty much over, but I have a feeling he can still hit close to .300.
Venters is young and he showed a lot of promise last year considering how much he pitched.
Well, Freeman I think may stay with us for a while. I couldn’t tell you how he will play next season. He did well in the minors but he struggled in the big league. However, he only played a few games and didn’t really get to prove much to his critics. He may hit .250 next season.

Besides him being a Braves high level prospect, Schafer just looks like a ballplayer. Except for that dumazz flat bill ballcap. To me, that looks flat out stoopid!

So Trey, are you excited about Teheran, Freeman, Kimbrel, Delgado, etc?
I am high on all our prospects. But if they don’t make it, I ain’t going to jump off a cliff or anything.

I look at them as trade bait from our front office.

Trey – Teheran, Freeman, Kimbrel are not trade bait! Do you read DOB’s comments?!

Well, Freeman I think may stay with us for a while. I couldn’t tell you how he will play next season. He did well in the minors but he struggled in the big league. However, he only played a few games and didn’t really get to prove much to his critics. He may hit .250 next season.

MIBF, remember I don’t share the same views as DOB or the front office. My opinions mean squat. I don’t know what they will do with them.

I think it’s time to let go of that. A lot has changed since then. The situation is much different.
