1. Nate sucks but not just for his bat. He hasn’t displayed any ability to throw out anybody. He doesn’t even try to make throws. Is something wrong with his arm? Can we really afford to have a centerfielder with no arm whatsoever?
2. Andruw’s 19 homers last year were 2 more than Jason’s 17 (in his great rookie season). Jason at times looked terrible misplaying balls in right. Why we couldn’t afford Andruw at 2 million per is beyond me. We can afford to pay Sherill 1.2 and he got rocked every time he pitched last year. Andruw playing every day in center seems to me a better option than McLoser or Schafer. I know he’s not the same player at 34 that he was at 27.
3. We have no other option in center. So we can’t really improve on the circus (McLoser, Melkman, and Ankiel) out there last year. If as Wren said a lot of teams would like to have McLoser, why doesn’t he trade him? We’re going for the buyout in 2012. Why should we keep a lame duck centerfielder?
4. At this point, I’d rather see Schafer than McLoser with an eye toward 2012 since McLoser won’t be here. Are we developing McLoser for another team?
Thanks for the new blog, DOB. Very interesting read about Nate and some of the prospects. I’m among those who hope Nate has a strong rebound season, and think he’s capable of it. And it was great to see the info on the Braves Spring Training games on ESPN – another sure sign that we’re getting closer and closer to pitchers and catchers reporting!
Kyle: Yes, Alex Gonzalez’s contract is up after this season. There aren’t any majors-ready everyday replacements right now, but Braves believe Pastornicky is getting close, and one or more of the others could be by the end of the year, too.

With Lipka and Salcedo probably a few years off. I’m wondering what the future of Prado will be. Do we leave him in LF for the forseeable future since Uggla is locked in the next 5 years? You do a fantastic job. When you report it is almost like a website strictly devoted to the Braves. I am so use to getting such superficial informations. The depth that you reveal is most appreciated.
Not sure how to answer – as little as possible is an option, cook and clean is another, pass on mathematical knowledge in a variety of forms would be yet another…
Don’t forget about Yasser Gomez, the Cuban teammate of Yunnel Escobar that the Braves signed last year. Nolie looked up his stats and he doesn’t have any power but supposedly plays good D and hits for average. He’s about 30 and might come on next year.
Kyle: Yes, Alex Gonzalez’s contract is up after this season. There aren’t any majors-ready everyday replacements right now, but Braves believe Pastornicky is getting close, and one or more of the others could be by the end of the year, too.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Alex Gonzalez doesn’t even have a capable major league back up SS right now. Omar Infante is gone and if anyone thinks that Diory Hernandez, Brandon Hicks or Ed Lucas (quad A cannon fodder) can fill his shoes…..ya’ll are all gonna be catching up to me in about three to four months with the same gripe.
Bay Area Steve……….if the two women I met in 07 when I rode my motorcycle through your town are indicitive of all the women in your town, I MUST go back there…..
and in words that I have said to you a couple of times….”Have one for me”…..
day is done, gone to sun, time to run, we’ve had our fun…
Been too long since I have been on here. I can’t wait for spring training, the regular season and beyond. Besides as a Wake Forest fan, not exactly much for me to cheer for now.
All I can look forward to is the Braves and the beach.

Soph you got Marteeeen. What could be better than that?
I wish you wouldn’t force me to make that decision.

Oh…now, that’s adorable! I’ll be first in line if that ever happens!
Soph Marteeeen’s gonna hand out meal worms and turtles.

Been too long since I have been on here. I can’t wait for spring training, the regular season and beyond. Besides as a Wake Forest fan, not exactly much for me to cheer for now.
All I can look forward to is the Braves and the beach.
As Zac Brown says-
Knee deep in the water somewhere. Blue skies, cool breeze in my hair. My only worry is if the tide will reach my chair.
