Did anyone truly believe that Wren was going to come out and announce to everyone “Yeah, we know Nate sucks and we’re not at all confident he can ever hit another baseball, but we owe him so much money that we have no choice but to play him and hope he doesn’t suck even worse.”?
Reading his comments on his situation and seeing what teammates say about him, McLouth is is a hard character to not pull for. Seems like a good dude who has simply hit a rough patch with confidence. Hope he gets it back to form for the season… for HIS sake just as much for Braves’ sake. Hate to see good guys get beat up so badly.
I just hope out of McLouth,Schafer and Young one of these guys steps up and becomes the center fielder we need. From what I have heard and seen Schafer has the best tools to become a really good center fielder much more so than the other two.
I do not think Hinske playing every day at first would be as good as Freeman hitting .250 because Fredi looks to be a much better fielder digging out throws in the dirt than Eric. When Eric plays every day he does not look as good as he does filling in and pinch hitting.
Has any thought been given to bringing back Glaus to fill in at first and third if he gets into shape, don’t everybody jump on me all at once but is just a thought on my part.
An Oakland A’s fan has started a website entitled iwannafightbrianwilson.com and hopes to set up a charity boxing match against the eccentric San Francisco Giants closer.
According to this challenger named “Nick,” Wilson initially proposed a fight between the two last May at Oakland Coliseum. With the A’s up in the weekend series 2-0, Nick said he asked Wilson to sign a broom. Wilson didn’t take kindly to the suggestion — again, this account is from Nick — and invited the A’s fan down on the field to fight….
“If Brian Wilson is a real “tuff guy” like he tries to promote himself to be, and wants to challenge me to fight in a situation where i would get arrested, then I’m sure he is tuff enough to take on this challenge and get into a ring with me and have a legal boxing match! The ball is in his court now!
And just for those who think Im trying to gain anything from this, If Wilson does man up and we have a boxing match, I will donate half of all proceeds to a local childrens charity and the other half Wilson can do what he wants with. He can donate to his favorite charity if he wants( The Tool Academy).”
Actually’ Trey.. It was that combined the two… personally.. I’d like to see Fredi take the year off and let Robert manage the first 81 games of the year and Mitchell the last 81… then they could see how good their ideas are and get bashed by the bloggers here.. i know I’d be first in line for that

Ahh no… but I don’t expect the GM to pizz down everyone’s back and swear that it’s rain! Believe it or not, there are a number of baseball GM’s who will diplomatically skirt the issue of an underperforming player before they will shout from the rooftops that their underperformer is going to come back and be a real contributor to the lineup. No matter what Wren says about a guy, everyone else in the game has their book on Nate. Wren saying he’s poised to come back isn’t going to sway the opinion of a single GM or organization. If he says Nate sucks, it isn’t going to sway the opinion of a single GM or organization.
Wren’s sole purpose for the Nate sale job is for the edification of the fans. Nate knows where he stands not matter what Wren says. As a fan, I don’t appreciate being told that Nate’s contract wasn’t a factor in deciding if the team would go out and find another CF’er. For all practical purposes, Nate has an untradeable contract. While I do not believe reading Wren’s comments will make me a better man, I was somewhat uplifted by them. Now I just feel dirty.
I loved this guy when he was on the Prates. I remember wishing he would join the braves but now I can care less about him. I am rooting for him but that tomahawk swing needs to change. He barely hits to the opposite field. When he does he seems confused about how it ended up there.
Holy Cow…F Wren is drinking his own kool-aid. McLouth, in addition, to his miserable season went something like 3 for 45 in spring training. That 10 game streak was inconsequential and he was “robbed” of those homers because he’s a really small guy (that’s gonna happen) not because he was hot and actually got robbed.
I think some people would’ve been happier if Wren had said “Yeah, Nate sucks. But he sucks too much and costs too much for us to trade or dump him, so he’s sticking around.”
