Speaking of baseball I thought I would tell you, that I have two Chipper Jones Upper Deck Rookie cards, and a Cal Ripkin 1982 Donruss Rookie card…… Just tought I would mention it!!!!!!
January 3rd, 201112:03 am
Ward, those are really good cards.
January 3rd, 201112:04 am
ward, relax man. That was what everyone in the know predicted.
Look at it this way. You finally accepted McLouth staying with the Braves next season. You will, eventually, accept Coughlin staying with the Giants. I find you to be pretty resilient in that way.
Here’s a sad story I have a Mark Mcguire 1988 Tops Olimpic card. It was werth $200 dollars, and now its prbably woth $10 if that.

I was an ass. I is who I is…
But, for me, say somethin’ negative. Once. Anything. Say vanilla ice cream is whack. Say Hershey’s can go whistle. Say ward’s cards aren’t worth two nickels. Gimme somethin’…
ward, I know nothing about baseball cards. I know that I had some Hank Aaron with the Milwaukee Braves. And many others. They were all cards from my childhood, probably stashed away in my parents’ basement. Do those carry much value? If so, the next time I am at home, I should go rummaging.
Ward, if you don’t want that card; you can mail it to me and I am sure I can talk someone into buying it for more than what it’s worth.
January 3rd, 201112:07 am
Thanks Tom O’ Hawke! I’m cool, and I’m doing a lot better.
January 3rd, 201112:08 am
BAS, I know you were an ass, but I have no reason to say anything rude at the moment. I’m sure when the time comes I will.
January 3rd, 201112:09 am
Dude, I’m with ya. Though I’m comin’ ’round dude’s real, I’ll never fully believe it. I could see the DL, the SSN, a current utility bill, the I-Hate-Whitesnake-MIB-Blog membership card… Dude ain’t real.
Plus, how much more fun is it to read while imagining some cat conjurin’ the guy?
BAS, honesly, I am not normally that positive. I may seem positive on a blog, but that is a blog.
January 3rd, 201112:10 am
I can’t like you unless you got a little sarcasm in ya… Fake it one time. Be genuine all the rest, but call Robert a donkey. One time. Gimme at least that…
January 3rd, 201112:11 am
Moe Berg: Hank Aaron should be worth some thing. Buy A Becket Price guide, and check out some of those cards. You might be suprised!!!!!!
Aren’t you eating kind of fast? Either that or your portions are kind of small.
January 3rd, 201112:12 am
ward – not to say “I told you so,” but…
January 3rd, 201112:13 am
BAS, you ain’t gotta like me. I am what I am, and I am who I am. I don’t need to call Robert a donkey; he does that pretty well, himself.
BAS, calling him a donkey is an insult to jack-asses all over the world.
January 3rd, 201112:14 am
Moe, three? Three? As in one, two, three?
Dude, alcoholic and delusional is eight-straight. Minimum. Picking fights with well-liked bloggers also earns points: i.e. me v. Trey.
And, snot, don’t be dissin’ teh NFC West. See ‘Zona’s recent Superbowl run. 7-9 could get there. Any Braves’ fan oughta believe that…
If you really want respect, call BAS a pain in the ass. I think he’ll appreciate that.
I got Dale Murphy cards Ken Griffy Cards, and I’m going to check them out agian, and then hold onto them for a long long time, and pass them onto family…….
Tom O’Hawke–Good call. I thought I was going to the dinner table. But my wife is watching some film for work and so eating in front of the tv. So I came back to my desk with food. A relatively frequent occurrence.
Thanks, ward. I have no idea where all of my cards are. I collected throughout the 70s and have some cards from earlier. Should look through them at some point.
January 3rd, 201112:15 am
Moe knows them cards is worth somethin’. Guaranteed.
Bo knows football. Moe knows all (or at least, a whole frickin’ bunch).
January 3rd, 201112:16 am
Tom O’Hawke, again, I really don’t worry about respect or what people think of me. If ya like me, cool, if not; I won’t lose any sleep. Hell, if I cry about it; I will build a bridge and get over it.
Venice Jim: It’s alright, I’ll just have to see what Tom Coughlin can do next year.Patience…..
January 3rd, 201112:17 am
BAS—I do not mean to question your many talents. I know you have them. I merely mention, when I have approached the lesser ends of your much-admired capabilities. I love your blog posts. You can put up a dozen straight, and I will remain enticed. (But I must have a few bites of tonight’s jhal frazee before I respond.)
January 3rd, 201112:18 am
ward – if he can get Eli to cut down on his interceptions, and Bradshaw on his fumbles (and keep the receivers healthy), we’ll be alright…
C’mon man, loosen up a little. You’re being WAY too serious.
January 3rd, 201112:19 am
The most knowledgeable about baseball? That one is easy, nolie.
January 3rd, 201112:20 am
Tom O’Hawke, no I’m really not. I just don’t try to make people like me.
Tom gets it. That’s all I was gettin’ at…
Besides the whole ‘I’m an ass’ bit. Goes without sayin’… (Where’d I hear that?)
January 3rd, 201112:23 am
BAS–The problem is, that if one knows one is an ass, it undermines one’s assedness.
BAS, we all can be asses. I’m just trying to not be as much of one.
January 3rd, 201112:24 am
Awesome line with the JIBBERICH. I love me some richbrave, but that line earned at least a standing-eight…
I inherited a shoe box filled with cards of my father’s, from mostly 1961 – era. He used to “pitch” cards, but never any of the Braves’. He also traded for the Braves.
He has (had) several Aaron cards. Also, Mathews and Spahn, among all the other Braves that played back then.
I never checked on their value, but if you find out what the Aaron cards are worth, pass it along.
January 3rd, 201112:25 am
I actually am not worried about the NFC west and records – but kinda ironic that after having all those winning seasons recently with USC he ended up with a losing season with the Seahawks and still goes to the postseason. Actually i dont know what I am saying. Am not even sure I have a point here. That’s nothing new though.
I guess I am just a little pleased that the dubious distinction of their record will always be associated with Carroll.
Clear as mud.
January 3rd, 201112:28 am
Venice Jim: I agree with you on that. Eli just needs to be him self, and he will be fine, and we have a great recieving core. We need to build up the deffensive ends, and offensive line. Have a good Draft, and off season on free agent signings, and the Giants will be even stronger….. Maybe add some one in the back field too…..
I never checked on their value, but if you find out what the Aaron cards are worth, pass it along.”
Oh, you know they worth a large amount, especially since Spahn and Mathews are dead. Honestly, if I were you; I’d just hold on to those cards.
January 3rd, 201112:30 am
Theoretically, Moe, I’d agree. But, I still act one, and still know I is one… So where does that leave us?
Besides the fact, of course, that Trey agrees with/has a story about/used to do the same/never has an original baseball, bbq, music, anything that ever existed thought/etc., yet “just doesn’t try to make people like” him?
January 3rd, 201112:31 am
Tom O’Hawke–If I ever find what I had as a kid, I will look it up and pass it on. We had a family friend who wanted a son and did not have one, so he gave me a lot of his cards from the 60s and 70s. I just don’t know where at my parents’ house they got stashed away. I remember the Aaron card, because my first baseball memory is him hitting 715. My mother was staying up to watch and I could not sleep. I watched it with her, and she told me to remember it.
January 3rd, 201112:32 am
I was busy all day, did the Falcons win today?
January 3rd, 201112:33 am
BAS, no, and all you do is try to trash talk me; why should I give a rats arse what you think? So, I agree with things that I like? What the hell is wrong with that, dude? Sounds like you got your own personal issues.
I’d no point either. Just saddened my Niners have less backbone than a Trey post. (Sorry, can’t help it.) And, I figger if the Seahawks get to the ‘Bowl, that means my Niners aren’t as bad as They. Freakin’. Looked. Darn. Near. Every. Freakin’. Week.
How do I do this cab… Rant Over?
January 3rd, 201112:35 am
Spot on, Trey. I’ve got issues. Several. Plethora, even.
OK, credit given; I believe that may have been, repeat, may have been slightly negative.
January 3rd, 201112:36 am
I have held on to them, and don’t have any plans to do anything else but that. I am curious as to what they’re worth, though. But not that curious that I’ve done anything about it. They are still in that original shoe box.
At some point after my father passed on, I did go through them and made a list of what what there. If or when I get around to checking out their value, I don’t have to touch the cards. I have the list.
January 3rd, 201112:38 am
If anybody ever tells you to watch ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’, politely decline.
January 3rd, 201112:41 am
“Spot on, Trey. I’ve got issues. Several. Plethora, even.
OK, credit given; I believe that may have been, repeat, may have been slightly negative.”
Yeah, I have an abundence of issues, as well; including an irritating cough that just won’t go away.
January 3rd, 201112:42 am
Danga: I’m a Ghost!!!!!!!!!
January 3rd, 201112:43 am
Man Trey what did you ever do to BAS?
At some point after my father passed on, I did go through them and made a list of what what there. If or when I get around to checking out their value, I don’t have to touch the cards. I have the list.”
You can go to a store that deals with baseball cards and find out from them. I am sure there are sites online you can find out the price.
January 3rd, 201112:44 am
Any regular card after ‘86, don’t bother storing. Ain’t worth, won’t ever be worth…
Anybody with ’50s or ’60s (or if you’re as old as VJ) cards ought to, if they’re at all concerned with preserving value, ensure the cards are stored in a dry place, that moths/rats/humidity/etc, can’t attack them. All they are is cardboard, and unattended basement/attic cardboard is an attractive target for a multitude of predators…
Value is, in nearly all cases, 95% condition. Just like coins/stamps. If you’ve got ‘em, protect ‘em…
Big Jake, absolutely nothin’.
And, I figger if the Seahawks get to the ‘Bowl, that means my Niners aren’t as bad as They. Freakin’. Looked. Darn. Near. Every. Freakin’. Week.
Jan 8 – Saints vs Seahawks.
January 3rd, 201112:45 am
Today, I went to see ‘Black Swan’. My first time to see a film in a theater, since February (classic French film). Eleven months since seeing a new release (a Hindi film). And a full twelve months, since seeing a Hollywood film. So admittedly, not up to speed. I have heard so much hype, that I was expecting Godard directing Ingrid Bergman, or some such.
I really liked Natalie Portman and thought she did a good job. But, overall, I was disappointed in the film. It was far, too, reductively Nietzschean in its understanding of art. (And I am a fan of Nietzsche.) It was far too cliched in its portrayals of schizophrenia. Dialogues bordered on trite. Barbara Hershey was too one-dimensional. It had great potential and a wonderful performance. But as a film, it just was underwhelming.
January 3rd, 201112:49 am
Well played, snot…
January 3rd, 201112:50 am
Moe, I actually tried finding that movie at the theaters, but it wasn’t playing. So, I guess, we should not see it? When you get a chance; you should check out True Grit. I admit, I haven’t seen the original to compare, but; you should give it a check.
January 3rd, 201112:53 am
Don’t believe that Jake. Don’t you dare believe it. You know what he did… Worse than Robert… Almost as bad as Dentz…
He agreed. With anybody. Everybody. Everything. Ever. No matter who said it…
My addicted behind has to read this. All of it. Gimme some confrontation, some debate… If all one ever posts is ‘nice post,’ is it contributing anything?
January 3rd, 201112:54 am
1B MATT KENNELLY 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B (7), 1 RBI (15), .242 BA.

C WILKIN CASTILLO 0-4, 1 SO, .091 BA.
CF JOSE CONSTANZA 0-4, .150 BA.
MEXICO – 2nd half stats.
DH BARBARO CANIZARES 0-4, 1 BB, .143 BA
PUERTO RICO – 2nd half.
C ORLANDO MERCADO 0-3, .000 BA.
Dude, maybe you should apologize anyway.
January 3rd, 201112:55 am
You are right BAS, he sounds terrible. I should totally butt out.
January 3rd, 201112:56 am
Did anybody else know that there are women who will come to your apartment and clean? Everything? For a mere pittance? I had to give this girl a 60% tip just to feel like i wasn’t stealing.
To anybody that ain’t broke: Pay a professional…
Back in the early 90’s, my father had some of his cards appraised. He has about a half dozen Aaron cards, and they were, obviously, worth the most. If I remember correctly, about $160 per card, almost 20 years ago.
The shoe box holding the cards is well wrapped up with plastic and in an old cigar humidor (I think that’s what it’s called). The biggest pain in checking out their value is that the “list” is wrapped up with the cards.
I suppose that I’ll just have to unwrap everything and grab the list. It’ll only take a minute to make a copy and then put the list back. For the most part, it’s out of sight and out of mind.
Wow! Diory has fallen on hard times. I wonder if that will make them give Lucas a longer look?
January 3rd, 201112:58 am
“Don’t believe that Jake. Don’t you dare believe it. You know what he did… Worse than Robert… Almost as bad as Dentz…

Dude, get over me. I haven’t done crap to you, yet; you obviously have some sort of obsession with trying to disrespect me. I’m nothing like Robert or Paul Dentz. What do you ever do to contribute to the post other than trying to put me down?
“To anybody that ain’t broke: Pay a professional…”
Now you sound like PL.
January 3rd, 201112:59 am
Tom O’Hawke, yeah, I am sure they went up a little bit.
January 3rd, 20111:00 am
“Now you sound like PL.”
January 3rd, 20111:01 am
He and I are more similar than I wish, for sure.
And, nothing Trey. Nothing at all. Five years of Canadian Mist and Trey sucks. Every other post. Ya caught me. ‘Ya caight the Tater.’ (Tomahawkin-like shout out to Couch Tater.)
January 3rd, 20111:02 am
Those are “2nd half stats” as richbrave has commented. And its only a few games worth so far. There is still time for him to rebound. I dont think think his 1st half was bad anyway.
January 3rd, 20111:03 am
“And, nothing Trey. Nothing at all. Five years of Canadian Mist and Trey sucks. Every other post. Ya caught me. ‘Ya caight the Tater.’ (Tomahawkin-like shout out to Couch Tater.)”
Yeah, yeah, ya damn alcoholic.
January 3rd, 20111:04 am
Oh thanks Snotboogie. I think he was slumping there for a while and I thought the .280 was what he was down to overall.
January 3rd, 20111:05 am
Maybe Diory has a laod of crap in his pants, and that’s slowing him down or he is overated……
January 3rd, 20111:06 am
Play Lucas behind Gonzalez……..I think Lucas will be great.
January 3rd, 20111:07 am
Speakin’ of Tomahawkin,
First, I’d lay 100-1, and I’ve got a $10 bill, that says there’s no way in … that JJ4NLCY got banned. And, if he did, it’s a misunderstanding. ‘OB has an email address, tell JJ to use it. He’s liked here…
Second (and this is only partly to refute Trey’s belief), nobody can ‘hang with your lingo, as you put it Tomahawkin, ’cause your lingo sucks. Eleven-year-old nicknames for every player in the league, and invented words for more of a sentence than not is not admirable. Nobody follows because it sucks. Kinda like me reading Trey (damn, there I go again).
BAS–Just playing with you. You are nothing like him. I really enjoy your posts but am admittedly weary after reading anything from our favorite bordeline-personality-disorder poster.
I actually agree with you for the need in confrontation. I chew out my students if they agree with everything. I point out that they just agreed with one reading. Now we are reading a rebuttal and they are still agreeing. Drives me crazy. Have your own thoughts and opinions. Bas.
January 3rd, 20111:09 am
For cryin’ out sideways, man, give him hell, will ya? I remember you getting all over Soph about not much of anything, a misunderstanding at best, a while ago.
You can’t give BAS some attitude? All he wants is a reaction from you and he’ll probably get off your back.
Let me put this in military terms: Sound off like you’ve got a pair!
January 3rd, 20111:11 am
You guy’s all have a good one! Nite every one……and peace………
January 3rd, 20111:12 am
Diory – overall – .294/.331/.403 in 32 games.
They are supposedly in the round robin playoffs right now after the regular season ended on dec 21. Hence the start-over on the stats.
ward, you’re fake. We know. Admit it.
Even Robert admitted his character was an invention, a creation by three separate bored college guys who couldn’t believe how many folks listened…
Like the guy in Shawshank who went to all the banks… Conjured.
“I actually agree with you for the need in confrontation. I chew out my students if they agree with everything. I point out that they just agreed with one reading. Now we are reading a rebuttal and they are still agreeing. Drives me crazy. Have your own thoughts and opinions. Bas.”
Oh geez, again, I do have my own opinions. I do not agree with something, unless it is something I actually do agree with. One of the things I love to debate and get into it with people is not allowed to be talked about on this page.
January 3rd, 20111:14 am
Play Lucas behind Gonzalez…….
Didnt know we could play 2 SS.
Tom O’Hawke, I have become less of an ass since I first started blogging more and more on here. I don’t see it necessary to get into pointless debates with people on the computer.
January 3rd, 20111:15 am
Trey, I am not busting your chops here. Just talking about an abstract principle on which I am agreeing. I think BAS gives you an unnecessarily hard time. But I also think that Tom O’Hawke is right–fight back with him a time or two, and he will respect you. My guess is that you don’t give a crap. Then, just ignore it.
January 3rd, 20111:16 am
‘Nite, ward, and peace (I think you’re real).
Bay Area Steve: Boooooooooooooooooooooo.
Too late Tom…
Once you have to explain the joke, and all that…
I just didn’t wanna go scroll. And, I won’t when it’s slow. But, once the season starts, and we’re at 50 a night, I’m gonna have to go by. I didn’t want to do that; there’s enough there, but…
January 3rd, 20111:17 am
Moe, if I get on the blog and I comment. I will respond to those who throw my name out there even if it is a negative remark. That’s one thing, I don’t ignore folks.
SB–I’m about to call it a night, but thought I would ask if you have been following any of the India/South Africa test series. I have been disappointed in India’s performance.
January 3rd, 20111:19 am
It seems to me, they are all pointless debates…
January 3rd, 20111:20 am
“It seems to me, they are all pointless debates…”
When is a debate pointed?
January 3rd, 20111:21 am
BAS, you know what I mean.
The most knowledgeable about baseball? That one is easy, nolie. Big Jake
thank you, I agree completely, but no need to limit it to just baseball…
January 3rd, 20111:25 am
nolie, I fully concede to your superior knowledge about baseball. So what is your opinion on the question, which I posed at 11:36 on Jim Thome’s HOF prospects?
Not watching – too late at night to do that. But saw the scorecard this morning. It does seem like a tame start after the victory at Durban. But I guess once Kallis falls, things might go differently.
I think this test might end in a draw, since it is not known to be as much of a bowler’s pitch as Durban. Supposed to take some turn later and so that might be interesting. Nice series though. Top teams and a good contest.
January 3rd, 20111:29 am
Come On Snot: Lucas for back up…………Nite all, and once again peace……
January 3rd, 20111:30 am
SB–I think I just wanted Kallis’s wicket earlier than this. A draw seems likely, or hopeful. I just think that when you are hunting for the fifth wicket, you don’t need to be giving 68 run partnerships, if you want to pull out a win. I should be appreciating a good, tight series. I think after England so soundly took the Ashes, I was wanting something similar by India.
If it’s any consolation, though, you are mostly responsible for the blog having the most posts in the past hour than anytime in a while.
T-Hawkin, we need another category.
Okay. I must call it a night. I must wake and write. So I need my rest. Adieu.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
