Cricket is certainly a foreign language to Americans. I have a friend here with whom I take an extended Baseball trip every year and I was trying to explain cricket to him once and he gave up when I told him that batsmen did not have to run when they hit the ball.
They run when they want to and so if they hit it far enough and away from a fielder they can choose to run according to how far the ball goes. The Melbourne Cricket Ground is so big that they there have been several all run 4’s in this game, which is quite rare.

And I have seen cases where the fielders would rather let it run to the boundary than chase it because it is pointless anyway.Could end up being 5 otherwise.
I have to admit trying to explain a game that takes 5 days to play (with over 30 hours of actual playing time) that can still end in no result is very hard unless you have been brought up with the game.
Cricket will always be my favourite game, I played it for 20 years until I left the UK in 1995. I came to the US in 2004 and have been a fan of Baseball since then, I like games where players have to think rather than react and I think that Baseball is a great example.
Didn’t think so. I think it’s pretty rare to find American cricket fans that grew up here

Believe me, I understand…just trying to explain football to some of my female friends is difficult and it is a relatively uncomplicated sport (of course, even though I’ve never played it, I have a more complete understanding of the game then many people so it all makes sense to me )
One that didn’t go all berserko on the side line at the coach too. I didn’t catch why Troy Smith behaved in that manner but it ticked me off and I’m not even a SF fan.
Soph/CAB, I’m not even going to pretend I know what is wrong with the 49ers, because I don’t. Hopefully San Fran can fix their problems for next season.
Terrelle Pryor’ and the guys are walking punchlines.
Hey man, none of us are willing to claim him either.
Eh, every program has cheaters somewhere, it’s just who gets caught first. You know damn well Penn State, Michigan, Georgia, whoever it may be are breaking the rules too. Can’t reasonably expect a coach to be able to control 100 college kids with regard to every single NCAA rule.

Of course, I agree with that. I have no doubt that these NCAA rulings are utter trash. But that doesnt stop me from enjoying the misery of buckeye fans. Something to balance all the ESPN hype, right!
