I had a nightmare last night that we traded JJ to the Yankees for Roger Clemens…Yes, i am aware there are problems with the timeline but it was really scary! I even dreamed that I posted a really long angry blog rant about why it was such a terrible trade. I think i spend too much time on the blog!
December 26th, 201012:32 pm
And have plenty of cash to get that one player.
Yup. If they go that way.
I realized that they could go another way with all that money too – swap Lowe for a bad contract SS with a year left on his deal. That way if Lipka or someone else works out, they wont be blocked in the future. That would still leave one position to fill with a lot of cash inspite of paying the increased arb. salary of JJ.
Couple of different ways to go – but unless a couple of our guys fall on their faces in 2011, it’s not a bad situation ahead.
December 26th, 201012:37 pm
5 yrs 65 million is still a bargain……Obviously Uggla is seeing the contract that players got this offseason and understandably wants more.
December 26th, 201012:38 pm
NFL Cancel Game In Phila, Viking/Eagle game will be play on Tuesday Night.
It’s this first time they cancel a game becuase Snow?
December 26th, 201012:42 pm
You can add Ryan Howard to the Phillies woes coming up. While he is not a liablility now, with his contract, the 250 pounder is going to become one in about 2014.
$20M this year then his 5 year $125M contract kicks in.
12:$20M, 13:$20M, 14:$25M, 15:$25M, 16:$25M, 17:$23M club option ($10M buyout)
Whoops – forgot to close the bold – sorry
December 26th, 201012:43 pm
The first time since last week.
December 26th, 201012:54 pm
heylargo- correct, howard’s contract is pretty nuts. the phillies future does not seem very bright. 2/3 of the team are over 30, and not many are coming off contract in the next year or so. the team is intact for years to come, and with all that money gonna be spent on them when they are a few years older.. the sacrifice they took to win these last few years.
December 26th, 20101:08 pm
i agree about the phills, hopefully all these huge contracts and aging players will come back to bite them in a couple years.I think the Nats are going to be a strong team by then the way they have been so aggressive with free agents and they have a good farm.
December 26th, 20101:15 pm
Phil Niekro kicking for the Bears?
December 26th, 20101:36 pm
I hate my team…

All I could think was – Dumb and Dumber
December 26th, 20101:50 pm
“Lots of the old timers and old HOFers didn’t play during the huge contract years of the past few decades and have their own sites where they sell memorabilia for the revenue. Stan is one. ”
Musial is 90 years old. His health is failing pretty rapidly. I doubt it’s him selling anything on-line.
At BEST, it’s some of his family and the money is going to him. At worst, it’s some agent or agency or dealer who somehow got rights to a name.
Sports memorabilia is a dirty dirty business
December 26th, 20102:11 pm
All I could think was – Dumb and Dumber _ Robert
December 26th, 20102:12 pm
Bat – I was trying to resist…
December 26th, 20102:17 pm
I love my team…
December 26th, 20102:22 pm
Speaks to your character VJ.
Are there happier days ahead for Robert? Doubtful.
December 26th, 20103:08 pm
December 26th, 20103:12 pm
Robert- Why should I have known you’d be the doubter? Is it because Stan was Bobby Cox’s favorite player and he got a signed photo for retierment?
I wouldn’t worry – it’s real. Been dealing with autographs for more than 25 years and can authenticate. Wouldn’t have suggested it for a Christmas present if I wasn’t certain.
Fergie Jenkins is another one and I’ve actually met him and talked to him about the whole subject.
Like I said some of them are still around and I’d much rather get it from the than through Steiner Sports. For some it’s one of their only ways to supplement their income.
As for him being 90 years old – doesn’t mean he can’t sign his name. It was likely a family member who addressed the package though – but it was still nice to see one addressed by hand in script. Not so sure many people even know who to write anymore.
am i the only one here now??
December 26th, 20103:13 pm
How to write – got to be able to do that before you know who to write.
December 26th, 20103:18 pm
That’s Gould, Jerry! Gould!
Penn State guy has been accurate for a long time now. Wonder why he was even waived twice.
or maybe nobody wants to talk to me…
December 26th, 20103:23 pm
can’t block, can’t tackle, can’t throw, can’t catch, can’t run and can’t kick but my 49ers are only down one after 3 quarters…go figure
December 26th, 20103:26 pm
Only about 364 more shopping days till Christmas. Don’t wait till the last minute this year…
not surprising if Uggla does want a bit more money after seeing some of this years contracts. as I have said B4 he could likely do better by going to arb and then entering free agency. so even 5/65 or5/70 would not be too bad. prolly should not guarantee more than 5 years though
cab- Don’t worry – there’s always hope. I was a Bucs fan for ten of the twelve consecutive losing seasons in the 80’s and 90’s – when they had the worst record in the history of sports franchises. At that point in time they’d had two winning seasons – Even had Steve Young and lost. At least the Niners have won Superbowls. They might suck now, but at least there was something sometime. MIght happen again.
December 26th, 20103:27 pm
If they win their last 2 games and the Seahawks lose one, the 49ers will win the NFC West
December 26th, 20103:30 pm
cab – Then what you bitchin about?
December 26th, 20103:31 pm
No wonder no one talks to you.
December 26th, 20103:32 pm
I’m more amazed that they are only down one then I am bitching about it…they have looked awful all day except for 2 big plays that they scored on. But these are the 49ers and they will find some way to screw up their chance at the playoffs…
Hey! That’s just mean! Everything I typed there is true!
December 26th, 20103:33 pm
cab – Careful – people will start thinking you’re a Firster.
They have 6 first downs, 206 yards of total offense, and 82 penalty yards…
December 26th, 20103:34 pm
Could it be that no one here really cares about the 49ers?
what’s a Firster?
December 26th, 20103:35 pm
I care! I can’t help it- VJ was in the other room and I need a place to vent
cab – Look at it like this – that would be great yardage if it was the first quarter -except for the penalties.
December 26th, 20103:36 pm
I know! Unfortunately it’s the 4th quarter…
December 26th, 20103:37 pm
cab – A firster is like all those people who were griping when the Braves were in first place this year and had a 12 game lead over the Phillies. It wasn’;t a big enough lead for them (of course, it DID turn out to not be a big enough lead, but that’s immaterial). A Firster is a someone who no matter how good their team is believe that they could always be better and nothing will ever make them happy.
December 26th, 20103:38 pm
Snot’s right. Gouldilocks is a good one.
Ok, I swear I typed that before he missed just now. I was being serious.
4th Quarter? Well that might be an equine of a varient hue.
Frank from KS (now living in CO)
cab – well, I know I’m happy. Chiefs up 34-14 with a little left in the 3rd…..altho it’s not over by a long shot, a win today and a loss from the Chargers..and the Chiefs win their division.
December 26th, 20103:40 pm
My team is neither in first place or very good, but they are much better then 5-9…they lost to the Falcons, Saints and Eagles by a total of 8 points…and lost to Carolina…I just want them to play as well as they can, instead of watching them cost themselves games by being stupid week after week…
December 26th, 20103:41 pm
Penn State guy has been accurate for a long time now. Wonder why he was even waived twice. _ SB
He has a mean knuckle ball. Did you see that first field goal?
Whoops, you praise him and he misses a short one. Ain’t that always the way it happens.
nolieFake name to rip other blogger ala rich's post
December 26th, 20103:45 pm
I don’t think it was immaterial at all in that case. anybody with any sense knew the Phils were likely gonna come storming back when they got healthy.
December 26th, 20103:46 pm
ok so the delete doesn’t work in the name field
December 26th, 20103:49 pm
Ok – I had no intention of jinxing that guy. Honest.
No, Bat didnt watch the first one.
I am watching the Jax game online – hoping for them to lose so that the Colts road gets a little easier.
December 26th, 20103:51 pm
Bah, I’m stuck with the Jax game on Fox. Boring.
The CBS game is pretty good though. Bears & Jets in a shoot out.
December 26th, 20103:52 pm
We don’t even get a morning game on CBS…not that I’m complaining since I finally get my 49ers on FOX
December 26th, 20103:54 pm
cab, get two games on Fox today. Next up are Tom & VJ’s boys.
December 26th, 20103:55 pm
Yup. We get that one too (of course…apparently FOX seems to think that LA is a Giants market. Makes VJ happy…) and the Chargers and Carson’s boys on CBS
December 26th, 20104:03 pm
I think I just saw my 49ers’ playoff hopes die. It wasn’t pretty. But since next week’s game won’t mean anything anymore, maybe Sing can go real crazy and start, like, Vernon Davis at quarterback and Michael Crabtree at nose tackle…just to see what happens
December 26th, 20104:05 pm
That’s the spirit.
December 26th, 20104:07 pm
Or maybe give the other Smiths on the roster a shot…Troy Smith and Alex Smith can’t seem to get it done…maybe Justin Smith and Reggie Smith can!
December 26th, 20104:10 pm
LOL…..Chip Caray cracks me up…………………swing and a drive right center field and walloped, thats got a chance that ball is outta here!!!!
December 26th, 20104:14 pm
Lew – I didnt imply in any way that your autograph was a phony. All I said was that I dont think a 90-year old man in failing health is spending his days running a website
Stan Musial was a great and underappreciated ballplayer who truly belongs in the Hall of Fame. Kindly honor him by not mentioning his name is the same breath with that of a bufoon like Bobby Cox, whose favorite ballplayer is whichever one of his lackeys is currently within closest earshot
December 26th, 20104:20 pm
Well, Snot – you’re about to get your wish. What an ugly throw by Garrard.
Bobby Cox Stan Musial, Stan Musial Bobby Cox. TWO Hall Of Famers.
Robert. ONE Hall Of Shamer
December 26th, 20104:26 pm
Yes! One half of the deal is done. Hoping Peyton can seal it now.
December 26th, 20104:29 pm
Nolie – now, now…..be nice to Sir Robert….he who knows all
December 26th, 20104:30 pm
Aaron Rodgers is baaaack.
December 26th, 20104:31 pm
yeah he sure does Frank :rolls:
December 26th, 20104:33 pm
Ugh. The Niners….
December 26th, 20104:34 pm
December 26th, 20104:46 pm
I share your pain…
Nolie – seriously, I’m not quite certain who’s worse…him or Coach
December 26th, 20104:49 pm
Tom – 14
VJ – 0
December 26th, 20104:52 pm
Gee, thanks for pointing that out…
Need to find that “unfriend” button…
December 26th, 20104:53 pm
I’ll go with a tie Frank
Sorry VJ. I like Tom’s boys – especially Rodgers. Plus, I’m in my family’s fantasy football championship and I have the Packers D. I need all the help I can get.
December 26th, 20104:55 pm
I need all the help I can get. Soph
and I thought you were just bein’ mean….
You wouldn’t unfriend me. We have to be friends for when GSU football joins W&M in the CAA in 2012.
December 26th, 20104:56 pm
December 26th, 20104:57 pm

cabravesfan, that is Singletary’s second to last game. Alex Smith, too. Jake Locker, Cam Newton and Ryan Mallett. Those are our options aside from trading up for Luck….literally….
You don’t care about the Giants enough to unfriend me.
McLouth = important one???
some of those guys will not end up as free agents, but Nate likely will
December 26th, 20105:01 pm
Account, Edit Friends, Soph, X
My brother-in-law is a die-hard NY Giants fan
December 26th, 20105:02 pm
But no, I wouldn’t unfriend you
Can’t unfriend me on here though! Bahaha.
I know…let’s get Drew,Johnson and Furcal back.and Andruw will likely be one again too
December 26th, 20105:04 pm
Good class in 2012 for the infield aside from third and catching. Big names in the relief class. Bad starting pitching and outfield class. Not a star in there at all.
December 26th, 20105:06 pm
And I could never do that to you, Soph…
December 26th, 20105:07 pm
A lot of those guys aren’t ending up as free agents. Gonna end up being a bad class.
Lousy throw, nice catch………. gotta pull for the Giants
December 26th, 20105:08 pm
Nolie – re: your 4:53 p.m.
yeah, sounds about right
jeffery – I feel sorry for your brother-in-law after their debacle last week against the Eagles…(LOL)
December 26th, 20105:11 pm
lol, on Facebook right after Jacksons punt return:
R U KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!
December 26th, 20105:18 pm
Uh huh, VJ. Nice timing.
December 26th, 20105:20 pm
Way to reach for that extra yard…oops…
December 26th, 20105:21 pm
I forgot to discuss that Giants/Eagles game with VJ last week.
December 26th, 20105:25 pm
Well, I was right here to discuss it when it ended…
It’s a me, Mario!
December 26th, 20105:28 pm
Bat – the way the defense is playing, the Giants may need several more turnovers…and stupid penalties don’t help…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
