Hey Trey, you know he once mocked American Sailors and Soldiers who have died overseas. Yep, he called them wussies (the vulgar version). He even mocked me when I told him I have lost friends over there.
I am better than that piece of crap. If he is here, I am not.

Mitchie-san, I don’t let that get to me. I have heard and seen worse from the Phelps family. A buddy of mine lost a friend in Afghanistan, and they went to Fairborn to protest his funeral.

. It’s not like I ever plan on visiting the city or even the team blogs.

Your loss.
If you ever get the opportunity you should visit the city; Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, good restaurants etc etc.
I know you have probably heard enough about Cliff Lee, but his wife said getting traded from Philly was the only time she ever cried when he got traded. She loved the city.
As for the blogs? I think you would be surprised. We love talking baseball – and if you don’t succumb to the inevitable taunts (which you’ll get visiting any city’s blog) you might change your mind about the city’s phans.

Phillistein, I’m a big fan of Pat’s too. I like their bread better.
My brother-in-law eats 2 every time we go. He’s pushing 350, 400lbs and probably won’t see 50 if he keeps eating ’steaks the way he does.

Hey, most of us here appreciate the sacrifices you guys (and your fellow soldiers and sailors) give for our freedoms.

How ya doing old man? I like the idea of being able to block a certain screen name. But he’d just keep changing it, or adding a space to it or something to keep it from working.

Hey, a couple of months of winning and having everybody treat you like the King and Queen sounds good. Everything’s all good when you’re winning, kinda the opposite of her Cleveland experience. I mean, just ask Joakim Noah about Cleveland…..

If as MFin04 suggests, that the Phillies’ additional attendance over the Braves results in $10-12 million in revenue for the Phillies, then who’s salary level – The Phillies at $170 million or the Braves at $85-95 million is more sustainable?
What do the phillies do when – inevitably – Rollins goes down with his chronic calf problem or Ibanez finally succumbs to age and turns in a less than stellar performance? Can the Phillies go out and find someone to replace them and still afford to pay much more than utility player pay?

Mitchie– there’s always going be someone out there that will disrespect you. Just like there’s always someone out there that’s smarter, stronger, better lookin’, etc. Just go with it, man (I know, easy for me to say). We’ve all had our line of work insulted at some point.
Granted, it’s much less personal and much more forgiveable when someone insults me than you, who does a much more noble duty than I, but nevertheless, I think you’re only hurting yourself (and those of us who enjoy your posts) if you give in to the lunatic.
Oh, and if I may, Moe Berg did a very nice job last night. Smart dude.

There are a few worthwhile aspects of Philadelphia – just that the fans aren’t one of them.
The Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, The Rodin Museum and The Art Museum are great to visit. Tastycakes are good and so are Philly cheese steaks. Fans at the Phillies’ games? Not so priceless.

The Braves will never have the season ticket sales that some teams do. This franchise was built on the tv viewer. When TBS started running games in the 80’s, watching the game on tv became the ritual. It won’t change. You see Braves hats in the stands all over the country. Pete VanWieren, Don Sutton and Skip Caray became household names and fans would go to the park and listen to the broadcast on the radio in there pocket.

I guess it depends on how you define “sustainable” Clearly, with $90 million less in payroll Liberty can make more money should the Braves do well and reach the attendance figures enjoyed by the Phillies.
But do organizations purchase ball clubs for the yearly money or as a long-term investment? Clearly, the Phillies are probably worth more than they were 5 years ago.
We’re clearly playing with fire. If the pitching breaks down we’re toast. Few years ago we won the WS with cwap pitching – but Howard, Rollins, Utley we’re in their prime.
Having said all this – I can’t help but feel that the Phillies as a NL power are here to stay. Like the Yanks and the Red Sux (God I hate the Red Sux) are in the AL.
I think those teams have cracked the code on modern day baseball economics.
But I guess you would expect me to say that.

The Phillies will be fine. Starting pitching, even win injury, can get us to the playoffs. I dont feel there will be a big drop off in offense without werth. He hit 1.81 with runners in scoring position. There were only a hand full of players worse than him. Glaod is a lifetime 285 hitter with pop and lifetime 301 hitter with risp. Francisco is a limetime 265 hitter with risp. They will do fine no big drop off. Also if rollins gets hurt so be it. Valdez was awesome in his place last year. O errors 4 game winning hits.
I just wanted to make one other point about Phillies pitchers being old.
cy young winners and age
Gibson 35 37
seaver 34 36
perry 40
carlton 33 36 38
denny 32
johnson 36 37 38 39
and maddux finished second in voting when he was 34 35 36
I guess this means nothing
If you look at the stats no top pitcher except for koufax, just because he retired, had bad numbers form ages 32-40 glavine, smoltz, and warren spahn had their best years. Just to list some of your brave pitchers
