Well Eric …maybe if you can get someone on the blog to vouch for your ‘hot’ assumption then you’ll know you’re right… if ya can’t then good luck guessing lol. I’ll stick with my sports, food and music talk and stray away from the hot or not game, ha.

yeah 13.5 mil a year is a great deal for a pitcher the caliber of Grienke, but it doesnt mean we have finacial problems… We have reached our payroll limit. Also we value our prospects and future, we can compete year in and year out while still having a bright future, the Phillies may field the better team but there future commitments to players will effect the team in a negative way in a few years, all the prospects they have traded too.
With the Phils having around 152 mil payroll and the Mets 135 mil I say were doing pretty damn good considering we have 40-50 million less.

if I were Halladay, coming off a Cy Young season, I would ask for an extension now to match the years that Cliff Lee got.

If the Phillies were smart they would do that to keep clubhouse harmony, but man, speaking of breaking the bank

If the Phillies land Lee, I can assure you guys we’ll be in 2nd place and looking at the Wild Card again. I love our rotation as it stands, but no rotation in baseball can stand against a rotation anchored by the 2 best starting pitchers in the game.

Well, why don’t we go ahead and play the season just the same. Sure things in baseball have a tendency to be somewhat less than certain.

I’ve seen it reported that one of the reasons Lee was traded from the Phillies was that his agent said it would be difficult to sign him to an extension. And now he’s thinking of staying for $30 million less? What changed?

I saw that report to Carroll. Maybe the Philies are throwing up a smokescreen and they are just trying to drive his price of for the Yankees. With the Yankees main rival the RedSox out of the equation for Lee. The Philies might see it in their best interest to drive Lee’s price up some for two reasons: So they don’t look bad in front of their fanbase for not locking Lee up for what could be a reasonable signing and just to make one of the big spenders dig a little deeper in the pocketbooks.

Carroll,
I was curious about what Braves officials have said about Andruw Jones possibly coming back to Atlanta. David O’Brien wrote an article, “Fredi G. on McLouth, Andruw and replacing an icon.” O’Brien stated “Jones returning the Braves seems unlikely, based on conversations with others in the organization.”

I was just wondering if there was some hard feelings between Jones and the Braves or something. Maybe he’s asking too much? Although I know he played for about $1.5 mill last year for Chicago.

I really think Jones would be a great fit for the Braves because they need a 4th outfielder with power. The guy hit 19 HRs and drove in 48 runs in 278 ABs. That’s production the Braves outfield badly needs. And if he’s in shape like he was last year, he could play any of the 3 outfield positions.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

P'cola Brave

That would be an amazing rotation no doubt. Hopefully with Uggla added and J-Hey having a season under his belt we will be a much better offensive team. Seems that for the Phils to make the Lee deal work they need to move money (Blanton/Ibanez). If they move Ibanez they will have to replace 2/3 of that outfield. I guess they figure they can lose a little offense w/ the possibility of putting out one of the best rotations of all time.

The Braves really have no gripe here, at least towards our management. We’ve splurged and got one of the biggest bats on the market. This is the Phils counter moves. Your getting a little worked up over one pitcher. They’ve already lost their RF. Seems they have to move Ibanez to help create money to pay Lee. They have no bullpen outsite of Lidge. We are pretty equal team. They have the best rotation in baseball no doubt but they still have some work to do. Take Werth and Ibanez out of that lineup and that hurts. Plus we’ve beaten Hamels, Lee and Halladay. Oswalt has never beaten the Braves in his career. Calling ballgame now is a little premature my friend.

Murph

December 14th, 2010
12:22 am

Guys, before you panic, look at Lee’s career numbers. Aside from one amazing season in Cleveland he isn’t the Superman that this hype has made him out to be. I’d put any of our pitchers, aside from KK, up against him and not worry about our chances. He’s good, sure, but he’s not anything to be scared of.

If what people say is true and both Teheran and Delgado are ready by mid-summer then the Braves are in great shape should someone get hurt or struggle.

Think of it this way… if the Phillies do win the division again it just means the Braves don’t have to face them in the playoffs. Some other team will take them out in the first round and clear the way.
