Thanks for the new blog CR!
Never anywhere near 1st
Thanks Carroll, I like you !
December 13th, 20105:14 pm
Meds is the man! Can’t wait to add him back to the mix in 2012!
December 13th, 20105:17 pm
But wait, do kids play outside anymore?
You’d be surprised at how clear video game consoles are when used outside!
December 13th, 20105:20 pm
Sweet! Thanks for the new bloggage, Carroll.
December 13th, 20105:21 pm
you’re welcome. sorry it took so long. I blame the long drive to Gwinnett….
December 13th, 20105:22 pm
Best of luck with that tree Carroll!
December 13th, 20105:23 pm
There is a spinner picked for the squad after just 5 first class appearances (Beer). I think it’s going to be tough to win from here.
December 13th, 20105:28 pm
Thanks Carroll, and happy holidays to you. Wow, that’s a lot of words on that locker. You don’t really believe in karma, do you?
December 13th, 20105:31 pm
I think the Braves should focus the rest of the offseason on locking Uggla up for 4 or 5 years. If we can move Kawakami and save around 1 million that would be nice to. Adding another bench player is a must we have plenty of options. Ross and Hinske being the only locks on the bench, I see Mather and Hernandez taking the other 2 spots. While Schafer and Young battle for the last spot. Conrad’s defense will hurt his chances of making the team. Hernandez doesnt have any competition being the only other capable SS we’ll have. Mather will beat out Conrad because he can play 5 positions and has some power potential.
CIF/OF Mather or Conrad
OF Schafer or Young

Thanks for the great blog Carroll. I always love hearing about little nuances in the game especially ones that pertain to my favorite team. I always used to say that God created luck for baseball. Looks like there is at least a bit of bad luck pinned to that one locker.
Question I have been wondering about, do you know if the Braves plan on doing another caravan this year or will they go back to doing the fan fest again?
is *not* a must
December 13th, 20105:33 pm
Happy Holidays to you, too, CR. And even this lifelong Tar Heel fan has to admit, the Dookies look really good this year, Irving or not.
December 13th, 20105:34 pm
Umm can I please write in place of Carroll?? I feel like I’m listening to a 45 year old mom TRY to talk about baseball & athletes. Dave, please come back.
December 13th, 20105:35 pm
Do you have any Australian links Carroll? The old blog has just got around to talking about cricket and suddenly a new blog appears before talk turns to the desperate situation that Australian cricket finds itself in.
Hey, I really had no clue what kind of surgery Webb had endured. What I said was this: “You go after a Brandon Webb or Pavano or someone like those guys, and hope for the best….”
Meaning that if you were going to deal a Derek Lowe, then you go into the FA pool and take a dip in and see what you can find. To be honest, you might do as well, but you probably will come up a tad bit short of a Derek Lowe’s performance.
Exactly why I do not think a deal will happen.
I think those rumors are just the creation of a Yankees hysteria that thinks anybody and everybody is available at the right price.

Carroll just wondering if players talk to eachother about recovery from tommy johns. i always picture a clubhouse or txt flying back and forth from team mates who go through it and give encouraging words of advice to eachother…
would you think tim hudson may give a call to medlen to see how things are and if he can help him out in his recovery?
December 13th, 20105:37 pm
I hope that no matter who we end up having in our rotation over the next 5-10 years, that Medlen is a part of it. I really like the little dude!
December 13th, 20105:44 pm
If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nuthin’ at all.
Thanks for the new blog CR.
December 13th, 20105:46 pm
Jason Heyward eats hexes and craps thunder. Give him the locker. Problem solved.
December 13th, 20105:47 pm
The anonymity really brings out the sexist pigs doesnt it.
December 13th, 20105:51 pm
When you (JF) have been in the big leagues for over 6 years and you sign a one year contract for $2 Million with the KC Royals does it automatically mean you are done and this is your last year or do they actually keep up with your stats and stuff just in case?
DS1, I like Medlen too, but I really doubt that he’ll be a fixture in our rotation. I think he’ll be moved to the ‘pen, where he can be a great setup man and/or closer.
His numbers as a starter are good, but better as a reliever. He’s not a real big guy, and coming off the surgery…
Anyway, just my opinion, and of course it depends a lot on the development of some of the other guys.
How was your trip south?
December 13th, 20105:53 pm
favre wont play tonight
Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt, and Joe Blanton.

Move Nate over there…
How much worse could his luck get…?
At this point, wouldn’t it reverse the curse…?
I live in Central IL…like I said, its about 7 inches in my area and there are areas where there is a foot and 1/2 piled when the wind isnt blowing…
Think Metrodome conditions…
December 13th, 20105:59 pm
Nice blog Carroll, I had forgotten about the Ken Caminiti experiment. Is that a real tree or one of those plastic abominations? Does anyone remember those shiny trees with the revolving multicolored light? Yikes
December 13th, 20106:00 pm
I beleive Cliff Lee is down to Rangers versus Yankees. If that was the Phils starting pitching you darn right we should be afraid. But is isn’t and we aren’t. Lowe, Hudson, JJ, Hanson and Minor scares the heck out of you doesn’t it PhiLEE. Glad you are back.
December 13th, 20106:01 pm
P town – Soybean country hey, woo hoo, just starting to snow now here
Snot – I have NOT seen cricket in 10 years but could not believe how bad my Aussies had gotten in the last year or so

Whats Up All?
December 13th, 20106:06 pm
I met Caminiti back when he was with the Astros. The guy was crazy… and not in a good way. Dunno if it was all the chemicals in his body or what but he just looked like a guy you wouldn’t want to run into when he’s not having a good day.
December 13th, 20106:13 pm
Thanks for the fine blog, Carroll. I’m more concerned about a back-up for short than I am about center field. Between McLouth, Schafer, and maybe that Mather guy, I think we’ll be ok in center. But at short, I’ve never been sold on Hernandez. I’d like to see us add a slick-fielding shortstop for Gonzalez’s off-days and late inning replacement. I really don’t care if he doesn’t have much of a stick as long as he gold a real good glove.
Carroll, do you think it’s a given that Lowe will be with the Braves for all of ‘11 or is there a chance FW may trade him (and his salary) now that his ERA is back to earth and he continues to be a solid winner?
December 13th, 20106:15 pm
murph are you going to listen to paul tonight on 101 at 8pm?
I wonder if Caminiti smoked his crack on a beer can or in a pipe? Big time pro ballplayer, probably used pipe.
December 13th, 20106:17 pm
I rather the Yankees sign Lee than the Phillies.
Eric, definitely… wouldn’t miss it after all this build-up over the last couple of weeks.
Did you hear the show today? Want to take bets on how long Sal and his wife will last? My guess is another 6 months. A viewing party to watch her husband cry with her friends? Heartless woman.
December 13th, 20106:18 pm
PhiLEE — That Philly rotation looks a lot less scary without Lee, doesn’t it.
December 13th, 20106:20 pm
ill take the bet that he lasts at least 3 to 4 more years. the guys doesnt even get how bad things are and she needs his money to live her lifestyle. im thinking he would have to leave her and that aint happining for at least 3 to 4 years!
how great is KC murph? the show hasnt been the same since he left. im glad for another 5 years… they are already shaping up to be really good!
December 13th, 20106:22 pm
a jinxed locker?! Maybe McLousy should use it. His luck couldn’t get any worse, could it?
December 13th, 20106:31 pm
Did KC call in today? Is he bringing in his new man/woman friend? That’ll be radio gold. I don’t think he’s telling the whole story of what happened in that hotel room…
December 13th, 20106:35 pm
Did KC call in today? Is he bringing in his new man/woman friend? That’ll be radio gold. I don’t think he’s telling the whole story of what happened in that hotel room
He sure did call in!!! he got his new “friend” to agree to come to new york… they are going to get 2 more women up to the studio and guess who is KC’s friend.
i dont think anyone listining believes thats all that happened in that hotel room. i wish he was still working on the show. the guy is a mess!!! I LOVE IT!
December 13th, 20106:38 pm
ive actually got the chance to meet kc here in albany at a comedy show with artie and rev bob. i met all 3 of them! kc signed my shirt…
Nice! It’s going to be a fun week. Isn’t Dave Lambert coming in with Little Lupe for a sybian ride, too?
December 13th, 20106:40 pm
dave? lupe? i hope… this is the 3rd time they are trying to get it together im not holding my breath
December 13th, 20106:42 pm
so P-Town would be Peoria I guess
Have you ever googled her? Makes me wish I had a Howard TV subscription.
December 13th, 20106:43 pm
oh yes ive definately see her! she is awesome!!!!!!!!
December 13th, 20106:46 pm
I spent a week in Peoria one day, Toledo west…
December 13th, 20106:50 pm
when is this cliff lee thing going to be over … GOD im sick of hearing about it
December 13th, 20106:53 pm
Lee to the phillies, and how exactly can they afford him? Phils aren’t the Yanks. I’ll believe it when I see it. Somehow, i’m doubting this report unless the phils trade one of their other big name, big money pitchers.
They talking about The Kansas City Braves in MLB Networt,,,
December 13th, 20106:56 pm
Bat Masterson, I think I found the culprit, after an hour of adjusting and help of a dedicated friend. one of the the three prongs you screw into the tree didn’t have a washer/nut so i was just drilling a hole into the tree. didn’t have the right size replacement, so I screwed it up against a coin. For the moment, seems to be holding.
AdirondackDave, hadn’t really gotten that far on Lowe, but hm, maybe if everybody else is pitching well, nobody is injured and both Medlen and Julio Teheran are close to joining the rotation, then maybe.
Joshhh, I’m not 45 and I’m not a Mom, but OK.
i love hearing people saying its not about the money for cliff… that is so funny to me cus when traded around for the last 2 years every team tried to extend him and every time the guy turned the teams down one by one… the guy couldnt wait to become a free agent… and now that its almost over… he is making it last a few more hours or days just to be the homecoming queen for just that much longer!
December 13th, 20106:57 pm
Eric in Albany NY, Medlen had just talked to Peter Moylan yesterday in Australia. Think they talk quite a bit about Medlen’s recovery etc.
December 13th, 20106:58 pm
December 13th, 20106:59 pm
Curt, Braves are planning to do the caravan again.
December 13th, 20107:02 pm
Hey, who’s planning on heading down for ST? I am going for a full week… I think it’s the last week before the Bravos head home for the final 2 exhibition games.
If anyone is going, let me know. The first round is on me.
December 13th, 20107:05 pm
murph i usually go the first weekend of games… one of my friends who i meet down there is having a baby so we’re not going to get a chance to go! im jealous of u!!!
December 13th, 20107:12 pm
Excellent meetings. (which is unusual for most sales meetings!)
Not much free time, and when I had an afternoon off, I was busy for about 3 hours catching up with phone calls and emails.
Did get a chance to eat some decent BBQ about a 1/4 mile south of the Marriott Sawgrass, I think it was named “Down South BBQ”. In a strip mall, and good collard greens and okra to go with a 1/3 rack of ribs and some brisket. Very tasty.
(beat the heck out of that fancy upscale food I have had to endure most other evenings)
Couldn’t talk anybody else into getting into a cab to go to Barbara Jeans. Too bad.
Thanks for asking………
December 13th, 20107:14 pm
You are putting up the tree too early anyway!
Murph — Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, we’ll be in south Florida.. Delray Beach. We catch a couple Braves games when they come down to Jupiter. The Cards and Marlins share a very nice little stadium there. Actually not so little, holds about 10,000 and they are all good seats. Two years ago we say Jordan Schafer make a great, and I mean great, catch not too far from us. The kid was sensational that spring, that’s why I am still hopeful about him. I think he can beat out McLouth with another fine spring.
December 13th, 20107:15 pm
It appears that Johan Santana will return around the All-Star break. The lefty underwent surgery to repear an anterior capsule tear in his left shoulder in October
the day they traded for him… i ranted and raved about how i thought he was going to throw his arm off for that team who wouldnt build a good enough staff around him… i dont love to see wasted tallent but i do love being right!!!
These guys who go through all this PT to come back from a major surgery on a knee or an elbow or shoulder sure have my respect!
About 6 years back, it took me over 2 years and 2 surgeries to get over a frozen shoulder situation. Got to be good friends with my therapist and all the pretty ladies at the PT center! But was a love/hate relationship fo sho.
carroll dont listen to josh he is a a**! great blog its a good read!
December 13th, 20107:17 pm
Lots of us are going to be pulling for a big spring from Schafer this year! What a shot in the arm that would be if he AND Nate come back strong this spring.
December 13th, 20107:22 pm
What a shot in the arm that would be if he AND Nate come back strong this spring.
your glass ain’t just half full, it’s obviously overflowing
December 13th, 20107:34 pm
Thanks for the new blog, Carroll….great work as always
December 13th, 20107:35 pm
Could there be a more effeminate picture of Nick Green?
December 13th, 20107:37 pm
All I want for Christmas is Medlen to stop wearing that Flat bill cap…..its a curse.
Hope Lee goes to Texas..
Merrry Christams Carrol and happy New Year….
Would love to see Bill Hall are Cain a Braves for Christmas.
God bless all the Braves fans…..
December 13th, 20107:38 pm
I have one of those super tanker big gulp 64 ounce cups! And yes, it is overflowing four shore.
December 13th, 20107:41 pm
I can’t tell if “four shore” is intentional or not
December 13th, 20107:42 pm
no doubt collegeballfan!
Huh? What? Why? When? Who? FrediSan? Where Mississipi? Why no tell KK?
December 13th, 20107:48 pm
Forget all of you…
I would say 90% don’t know what cold is!
When I got in my car this morning, my tires were down 6 psi and it was -4 out w/ a -22 wind chill…
If you think people dress/look funny at the Florida beach resorts is the summer, you should see them when it’s below 30 degrees and the wind is blowing 20, 25 MPH. Wrapped up in everything you can find to wear that is warm, and it’s all really designed for cool weather, not bone crushing cold.
You should have seen the young woman that cleans my house this morning. I opened the door a little after nine to find her standing there shivering, dressed in sweats, a sweater and hoodie with some kind of scarf. It took her awhile to stop shaking after she came in. Then she started to tell me about having a problem with her car this morning, she has a pretty thick accent so I have some trouble understanding her in the best of times. At any rate, she had some kind of problem with pressure,” the pressure in my car was not right”, she said. So I was asking, what…. oil… temperature….. ‘no, she said the pressure is supposed to be 30 something and it was nine’. I think she was talking about her tires.
She’s from eastern Europe and even though I only understand about half of what she says we have long conversations every time she comes. When I get tired of saying, pardon me, sorry or what, I can’t hear you, I just nod gravely when she looks serious or smile when she laughs. When I first hired her she was to come every two weeks but after the first month she told me I did not need her that often. Now she is on a schedule known only to her self. Maybe she has some kind of sixth sense that tells her when I’m about to be cover in dust, or maybe she calls when she has a hole in her schedule and wants to fill it. She just calls: ‘ Bat, I clean your house Thursday. yes’ or ‘ Bat I clean Monday, okay’. My favorite, ‘ Bat, I’m going home after next week for two weeks, you want me to clean before I go’? So I think, lets see its been about a month, that’s another, yeah maybe you could pop in before you go.
Today, after she warmed up, she wanted to talk about BP and an emergency settlement she got. She thinks it should have been more so I recommended someone for her to talk to, and we talked about what to expect in a final settlement. She lost a lot of cleaning business because of the oil spill, she can prove it, so she is as deserving as anyone. She works hard, I like her.
December 13th, 20107:51 pm
“4 shore and seven ears ago”—–I believe Glenn Beck said that. And Carroll, why don’t you have a blog about me?
December 13th, 20107:54 pm
Twitter is worth it for the journalist feuds. Just this week, you had the following:
Bill Simmons vs. Charles Pierce
Buster Olney & Peter Gammons & Keith Law vs. Jon Heyman
Gregg Doyel vs. Thayer Evans
Joe Posnanski & Tom Verducci versus Murray Chass
It was a better fight card than what Dana White put together for UFC 124
Steve from OH
What did Law and Gammons have against Heyman? I don’t like Heyman much…
December 13th, 20108:01 pm
Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck! Maybe I should log off and go watch some more Fox News!!!
Got me salivating….
December 13th, 20108:04 pm
Thanks for the post Carroll, nice read and update on Medlen.
December 13th, 20108:12 pm
The “mystery team” thing. Buster cracked Heyman on it. Gammons and Law jumped in.
December 13th, 20108:19 pm
“paul is not dead!”
December 13th, 20108:20 pm
I’m glad someone did, BH. Heyman seems like an unwitting Boras/random agent mouthpiece to me…
December 13th, 20108:21 pm
And I’m sick of the “mystery team” ploy as well.
December 13th, 20108:26 pm
Though I am now Da Sensitive One, if I weren’t, I’d probably have some smart alec things to say about Heyman and his standards of journalism.
December 13th, 20108:28 pm
December 13th, 2010
Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt, and Joe Blanton.
Ha, ha, ha, ha. See you on the field fool.
December 13th, 20108:29 pm
Good to see you on the blog. I have been busy as a one-armed paper hanger lately, but I know your schedule has to be brutal!
Do you think our man Wren is done? I am wondering about a minor tweak or two; especially for a backup infielder who can play SS.
December 13th, 20108:34 pm
The entire baseball world……yes, including AUSTRALIA, takes a day off. That was easy.
December 13th, 20108:37 pm
Gotta go do some other impotent stuff folks, but just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, just in case I get busy and forget to say so later!
Later on Braves fans!
December 13th, 20108:39 pm
You’re getting lazy, richbrave. I hear there’s a lot happening in the Venus Volcanic Vapor League.
December 13th, 20108:41 pm
I’ll let you buy me a frozen lemonade down at Dark Star. I’ll be down around the 7th, I think. .0
That’s the highlight of my Braves baseball season. Love to watch all the guys play in the Florida sun. Get to know the new hires, get to see the vets play the rust out of their game, watch the minor league guys get a couple of games with the big boys under their belts, watch some of the AL teams play that we don’t get to see in person during the regular season and do it all with Mickey watching benevolently from on high.
Oh yeah, get to see DOB on the job every day too. He’s almost as thrilled to be there as I always am.
December 13th, 20108:44 pm
Good to have you aboard this week. And you do not write like a 45 yr old either!
Mr. Turnip-Green Jeans
December 13th, 20108:47 pm
Great blog as always, Carroll. Thanks.
December 13th, 20108:50 pm
Does anyone remember those shiny trees with the revolving multicolored light? Yikes
One of my fondest Christmas memories. My Mother put a strand of lights on our shiny new 1965 aluminum tree. My father came home from work and started raising hell, because by doing so, she was going to electrocute anyone reaching for a present. “That’s what the rotating color wheel is for!”
For our cat “Bama,” the best Christmas present ever. A 7ft. cat toy.
turn around and its here!
December 13th, 20108:53 pm
Feb will be here before you know it. Wonder who’ll be in CF then? Wonder how long into April Chipper lasts? Wonder if OFlaherty and every day Johnny Venters can replicate their ‘10 seasons? If the kid whose name I can never remember is really going to be the closer? How close to Heyward numbers will Freeman get? How wierd is it going to be seeing Fredi sit where #6 sat for over two decades? And finally, Will Leo Mazzone EVER get another pitching coach job, and if not, why?
December 13th, 20108:57 pm
Brutal would be a good word for it, DS1. Oh, and I’m liking what Wren has done, but a good utility infielder would be a nice pickup if possible…
December 13th, 20109:00 pm
I have absolutely zero interest in Baltimore/Houston. I am currently watching The Princess Bride instead…I’m not sure how I feel about this.
December 13th, 20109:02 pm
if the Phillies signed Lee, they’d have to trade all their non-pitchers since there won’t be enough money left for anybody else… lol
December 13th, 20109:03 pm
I have absolutely zero interest in Baltimore/Houston. I am currently watching The Princess Bride instead…I’m not sure how I feel about this.
