RYAN FARISH reminds me just a bit of VANGELIS who I came upon because of the song-track from MUTINY on the BOUNTY. Just a bit, but I believe I like this music a little better. Got ‘PACIFIC WIND’ on now.

Brave4life- We almost had it,

Im not making fun of them, but my opinion is hard to fix the mess they have in just a winter. They have huge problems. 2B, C, CF, SP, BP, bench, RF. They have good young players and some superstars, but too many holes also.

I would like it if Dero was being shopped. Giants got a clustered team. He plays a lot of positions. I know he doesn’t play SS but that could be filled internally. Just poppin ideas off the top of my head.

Does KK have wording in his contract that prohibits Braves from permanently moving him to bullpen? If not, why not meet with him and inform him that they plan to use him as 3rd or 4th option out of the ‘pen- essentially meaning he’ll be used once or twice a month… maybe that’ll make him change his mind about accepting a “sale” back to his homeland? Sounds like any MLB trade they make the Braves will have likely have to eat 90 percent of his salary- which to me make very little sense to do that unless they get something of value back for him, and that seems unlikely.

ward

December 6th, 2010

Lollygagger: I have an answer to that.KK had one disaster after another, and when he losed one, the Braves would go on a bad decline…….

KK was terrible in the bull pen, and was as bad as Jo. Jo. Reyes. Hope I spelled correctly.

Just saw a bit on Hot Stove on MLB regarding Jayson Werth which should give considerable hope to Jordan Schaefer fans. Werth sustained a broken wrist about seven years ago while with the Dodgers. This after he had already broken out with a good season and a big playoff performance. After the Dodgers non-tendered him, the Phillies got him and we know how good he became, but it took three years for him to recover fully from the wrist.

Haven’t you heard? Schafer didn’t get hurt. He’s just an HGH flop! Never will amount to anything. Juicer. The wrist thing was just a smoke screen.

Alright folks, here we go! Winter meetings are starting today and this is where we get the juiciest rumors of the whole offseason. Lots of deals and signings go down this time of year. So glad that Frank has all of our needs filled so he can just sit back and relax and let other people come to him, and maybe make a trade if he feels the need to.

Only thing I see him really trying to do is getting rid of KK.

Well, the Nats HAD to overpay for a player like Werth to get them to come there, only problem is thats not how Carl Crawfords agent will see it, he will see it like “well, Werth got 18 million so Carl should get at least that if not more.” He wont look at the fact that Werth is way overpaid.

lexbrave

December 6th, 2010

boy the nats sure screwed over every other team in baseball with their “irresponsible” signing of werth. hear crawford wants a 10 year 190 mil contract now.

Russell Bell

Many other free agents before Jayson Werth pushed the FA ceiling to ridiculous heights over the years. While Werth’s contract most assuredly inflates the asking price of other FAs, free agency has always been (and will remain) a seller’s market, stocked with over-priced goods.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson on the Werth signing…

“It makes some of our contracts look pretty good. I thought they were trying to reduce the deficit in Washington.”

I don’t think Jason Werth is going to produce 18 mill a year werth in Washington, but it’s nice to have the money.

Here is what I see Werth averaging in Washington.

.280 23 homers and 89 RBI’s

Not Werth 18 million

Werth is not going to put people in the seats, sorry, he is not an exciting player like Carl Crawford who can steal you a ton of bases and so on. Werth is just a less injury prone Josh Willingham. They put up about the same numbers. Just one stays on the field longer.

lexbrave

i think it’s safe to say that any exciting additions to the braves roster will be via trade for the forseeable future.

And we don’t need to discuss a salary cap huh? With the decline of older players that can no longer use inhancements to prolong their careers, younger players will be signed to longer contracts with more money. Long term extensions can kill a team if the players don’t pan. The big money teams just eat the contract and go spend some more. Just becasue the Yankees spent 17mil a year on Jeter doesn’t make them better but if he doesn’t work out they aren’t strapped for cash to replace him. I give a lot more credit to teams like the Twins and Brewers that have limited budgets and still compete.most of the top spending teams in MLB are in the American League. Just another advantage like the designated hitter.

Gonna give you some stats for 2 players over the past 7 to 8 years, you tell me who they belong to.

Player 1’s career averages.
.272 batting average with 25 homers and 85 RBI’s, .848 OPS

Player 2’s career averages.
.265 Batting average with 25 homers and 82 RBI’s, .841 OPS

Can you tell me who those stats belong to and which one of those players just got a huge contract and which one is a guy they are about to trade to make room for him?

im very surprised at the werth signing. i did not see him going to washington. ive got to hand it to the nats, though. they dont want to be a losing team, and they are doing something about it. good for them…but im not sure if this helps them in the long run.

also wanted to opine on the linebrink trade. i was very happy when i heard wren got $3.5mil in the deal along with him, making this another steal by our GM. dude gets an A+ as far as im concerned.

NEW BLOGGAGE

For what it’s worth re national tile games – The last two years I thought the SEC team would win but that it would be a game(you can actually pull my prediction for last year’s Alabama-Texas game and see it was darn close on the final score).

The last time I felt THIS stringly about the game was Florida Ohio State – when I saw and heard everyone picking Ohio State and remember thinking – what are they smoking this game is a complete mismatch (and was right)

I dont dislike Oregon or the Pac-10. I have no reason to. I dont particularly like Auburn. Matter of fact, back in the Pat Dye days they were one of my least favorite teams. AND I am not saying Oregon is bad. They are a decent football team – probably the fifth or sixth best team in the country

The fact of the matter is simply this. Oregon doesnt belong on the same football field with Auburn.

Whatever the line is on this game – bet the house on Auburn. It’s easy moneyRobert, Dec. 5

Hey OBrien – what kind of odds you give me if I make it two touchdowns but make it real money?

Enough of this.Robert, Dec. 4

David O'Brien

Remind me again – how many bowl eligible teams are there in the Pac-10? (4, by wins , one of whom cant go due to NCAA punishment)

The SEC is going to send at least 8 teams to bowl games

Oregon has all of one win that even catches your eye. They put up 50 on a way overrated Stanford team. Big deal

Auburn has played and beaten LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas. (and now South Carolina) All of those teams would wipe the field with Oregon. — Robert, Dec. 4.

Note: Of the four teams Robert said would “wipe the field with Oregon,” they went 2-2 in bowl games. Arkansas lost to Ohio State and South Carolina to Florida State, while Alabama destroyed Michigan State and LSU handled Texas A&M. And Robert was right about the SEC sending at least eight teams to bowl games. It sent 10, and they went 5-5.

Again, I’ll point out that most of us acknowledge the SEC is the best football conference, and has been for years. It’s just that Robert goes so far beyond reason, exaggerating the conference’s advantage over others much as he exaggerates every flaw on Cox’s resume and believes virtually all others except him are wrong in their assessment of the now-reitired manager.

But I don’t want to sound like I’m down on Auburn winning tonight. Not at all. They deserved it and had a magical season. Much respect for a team that can come back as many times as Auburn did this season against tough competition, particularly against ‘Bama. Helluva year.

Oregon wins and is in.

Auburn cruising against South Carolina

Expect to see Auburn a 7-10 point favorite in the title game

And expect it to be a blowout.

After it’s over, you’ll hear hear stories of Auburn players watching film preparing for the game and knowing that they had already faced far better several times during the year

Auburn 45 Oregon 10 Robert, Dec. 4

Free spam blockers are popping up all over the internet. Kind of ironic, isn’t it, that some pop-up ads are advertising spam blocking technology. The problem with spam isn’t really the content, of course, it’s the time spent winnowing through all those e-mails in search of the ones that really contain useful information or are from people with whom you want to contact.
