So folks, I am reading the Buccaneers facebook page. I was reading comments from earlier, before the game, and one person actually had the audacity to say “GOOD LUCK BOYS!!!!! CLIP THEIR WINGS TODAY. Best thing for us is to HURT matt ryan for the season.” I mean, really? Wanting to hurt a person?

The only difference between his numbers away and at home is about 10 doubles. Big Whoop. The guy plays decent enough OF. I’m not talking about him playing as the defensive OF. I’m not comfortable with a Young, Mclouth and Heyward in the OF in the event that Chipper misses a great deal of time which is a fairly good possibility.

what is it about his 720 hitting away from Coors that leads you to believe he just needs more at bats to become a high reward guy? There is nothing high reward about his play either hitting or defense

Never been quite sure on Fowler. I think hes almost better given up hitting switch. He hits better right handed. Guy has good speed and all but his average may never make him a top of the lineup hitter.

His HR numbers are virtually the same theres just a difference in 2B. Granted I wouldn’t want a .721 OPS guy if we were talking about a power upgrade or full time OF. Were talking about a guy who will PH and start occasionally in the outfield.

big whoop??? there is a 150 point split, but the real number is 720. just like Melkie coming from Yankee Stadium to here and stinking, that’s the way it works 85% of the time. A guy from one of the uber-hitters parks will hit much closer to his away stats when he leaves that park for a normal one. 720 stinks, even if he came up to 750 that still stinks when partnered with poor defense. we are most likely talking Melky with 40 more OPS points. Big Whoop!!

Melky’s offense was much worse than Spillborghs. In the games hes spent against the NL East he has raked. Like I said were not talking a full time guy here. An OPS is not great, granted. But were not going to find a 4th OF with an OPS over .800.

why would i want somebody that stinks? I cain’t help it if y’all keep bringing up poor players.
Everybody here is always so blinded by hitters in parks like Coors, ‘zona, CWS, Rangers etc.
Take a look at the histories of mediocre players who hit good in those parks and then got traded. For the most part it is a sad stoty
What I’m saying is that I’d just as soon give our guys a shot rather than waste a trade or a FA signing on someone more expensive who likely will not be much if any better.
Get me Hall and I’ll agree with it.

didn’t say that. I said he has some problems the last few years. My complaint about him is that he was really overpaid the last few years cause of a coupla outlier years early in his career and I don’t think he will sign as cheap as the Braves can afford. He’s worth 3 or 4 mil and I’d be happy with him at that price. Mostly cause he plays 5 or 6 positions and plays them all at least average which is pretty unusual.

So because Hall plays multiple positions your more open to him. I only say this because his road stats are worse than Spillborghs. And going by fielding percentage, Spillborghs is the better OF. Now I don’t follow UZR or watch these guys enough live to know their defensive capabilities. But I really don’t see much a difference in them with the exception that Hall plays IF as well. Plus Hall will be much more expensive. Spillborghs will only cost less than 2 mil.

what is there about Milledge’s 5 years of crap production and his attitude that would make anybody interested in him? Just another decent athlete who can’t learn to hit worth a damn just like a million others over the years, and a cancer on top of that.

actually Hall is about my bottom line to pick up. mostly because Hall plays the IF pretty well and OF laboutt as well as Spils.he is more versatile by far and would not have to be traded for. 711 and 721 are statistically the same so I am willing because of the versatility. Spils is strictly an OFer.Hall would cover both current needs if we could get him for 3 mil or less, which is unlikely to happen.

good question Russell. I think he will bounce back some over last year but I’m not sure he will get to 800 again. He keeps that front shoulder down all the time which limits his fly balls to an extent, though last season it seemed like he hit more grounders and infield popups than usual, but that could just be my subjective opinion. He’s gonna hafta make some change in his mechanics if he wants to hit with more pop I think

Hairston would be ok, we don’t really need power in our backup guy
again like so many backup guys, I’m not thrilled with his OBP. Bloomquist’s is the same too though.
I’m kinda hopin’ that Lucas looks good this spring He plays about everywhere in the IF and the OF-though not much in the OF and his numbers look around average at most of them. and his career OBP is 362 which might translate to acceptable in the show

Well the nice thing about Hairston is his career OBP is about 60-70 pts higher than his BA which means he does take walks. His avg kinda hurts his OBP from being higher. Bloomquist is another Gonzo w/ out power. Hits around .265 with an OBP around .295

yeah, but to me what I am really interested in is more the total OBp not the splits. I actually like an average driven OBP as long as the player has a proven track record with the BA.
I don’t mean no walks, but both.
My hero was Wade Boggs. 200 hits AND 100 walks…can we get a guy like that as a backup?
