Yea. I was just looking over the list of FA OF’s. The best interest for the Braves right now may be to sit back and see where some of thes FA sign and see who has a crowded OF. I’m not so worried about CF as I am if/when C. Jones gets hurt. Matt Young can back up CF and possibly start if Mclouth struggles. But if Chipper goes down then Prado will slide to 3B leaving us a hole in the OF. Getting a RH bat that can play LF and platoon w/ Hinske during that situation would be ideal IMO.

It’s okay, Trey. As long as the Falcons keep winning, we’ll be okay. They’re one up on the Saints and if we tie, we have the tie breaker on them for now since we beat them. Plus, we play them again.

Not sure anyone expected Werth to sign with Washington. Thought Werth would hold out until Crawford was signed, so the teams that missed out on Crawford would compete for Werth & drive up his price. As it turned out, Werth got a helluva deal anyways, and Crawford looks to benefit as the same teams compete for him without Werth looming. It’s a good day to be Carl Crawford, and I guess Jason Werth too….

MLB Reference shows the Nats around a 80 million payroll. If there owner has money like Stienbrenner look for that number to increase more each year.

There will be an extension, just not at this time. Boston feels they have a shot to sign him long term, but no announcement regarding the extension at this time.

well we had control of Texiera for a season and a half. I really cant see the Braves making that trade with the thinking were only doing this to make us a winner for 2 seasons. they had to think they had a decent shot at locking him up. The RedSox will get the deal done. They have to much money to not get it done. If there locked on not giving him more than 6 years they wouldnt have made the trade. Cause I’m sure Gonzo is thinking if you wont give me what I want, I’ll get it next offseason when i’m a Free Agent.

True but you gotta remember Gonzo’s in his final year. They had no shot at keeping him, Obviously the Sox offered the best deal. They take it, and get 4.5 million in salary relief and gain some youngins. Much better than a return during Mid Season, which would equate to a Kotchman/Merek type of return.

The Brewers are putting the finishing touches on a deal for Blue Jays pitcher Shaun Marcum, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Always been a big Marcum fan….if he could just stay on the mound more consistently. Maybe this means Greinke could be on his way to Toronto?

Interesting point on mlbtraderumors about the A. Gonzalez deal.
If Res Sox wait until after opening day to sign Adrian to a long-term deal it doesn’t affect their 2011 pay-roll – meaning they won’t get hit harder by the luxury tax.
Smart move….and I learned something today. Never knew that teams were able to do that…

The Nats way overpaid for Jayson Werth…it almost looks like the type of contract the Braves gave to D-Lowe…just to GET HIM in here they were going to overpay no matter what. Well congrats Nats…u are gonna regret that contract in a few seasons…and Werth is a good player but he’s not a superstar type player and he got superstar type player from the Nats. Lets see him hit in that lineup and in that stadium away from Philly…I expect a decrease in numbers across the board. Also, any of the Nats with hot wives…u best be warned now that Werth is on your team…:eek:

What annoys me is that a few years ago when the Braves needed pitching badly the FA options were Lowe and Burnett and the best the could trade for was Vasquez (obviously worked out).
Since then Lee has been traded twice and is now a FA, Halladay, traded and extended, Oswalt traded, now Grienke is on his way out. Talk about missing the boat. Additionally the asking prices in the trades were not nearly as high as those ridiculously Peavy talks.

ASpilborghs is neither a very good defensive player nor a very good hitter away from Coors. Not sure how he would fit in. Sure isn’t an ideal 4tgh OFer with that defensive play

Hes not terrible away and in a small sample size tears the cover off the ball at turner. You could acquire Spillbourghs and still promote Matt Young. Like I said the other day, its quite possible we have 6 guys who could play OF on this 25 man this year.
