Yea. I was just looking over the list of FA OF’s. The best interest for the Braves right now may be to sit back and see where some of thes FA sign and see who has a crowded OF. I’m not so worried about CF as I am if/when C. Jones gets hurt. Matt Young can back up CF and possibly start if Mclouth struggles. But if Chipper goes down then Prado will slide to 3B leaving us a hole in the OF. Getting a RH bat that can play LF and platoon w/ Hinske during that situation would be ideal IMO.
December 5th, 20107:18 pm
VA, what part of the state are you in? I’ve got family in the Sterling area, and also in Arlington, and I travel to DC quite a bit. I love that part of the country…
December 5th, 20107:20 pm
Nice drive! Hold on now Dirty Birds.
Andrew in PA
December 5th, 20107:27 pm
Gonna get a new blog tonight DOB!! I watched The Town last night by the way. Great movie.

Fiesta Bowl Marketing -
U. Conn in a BCS Bowl Game is like having tickets behind the 3rd base dugout and finding out Chris Woodward is starting instead of Chipper Jones.
December 5th, 20107:29 pm
I live in the Hampton Roads area, City of Portsmouth.
Guess not. Sorry.
December 5th, 20107:31 pm
B4L- they already passed on keeping Dunn, who gives up a lot of runs with his atrocious defense. I’d take Werth over Dunn every time myself. obviously they feel the same
December 5th, 20107:35 pm
What a game. Little guy saves the day (hopefully).
December 5th, 20107:37 pm
Replay Official says: Falcons Win.
December 5th, 20107:39 pm
Yay. Nice win.
VABravesFan, I am in the Hampton Roads area, as well. Norfolk, though.
Wonder what teams would have an interest in KK. Maybe some west coast teams. Pittsburgh possibly.
December 5th, 20107:41 pm
P’cola, send KK so far west that he ends up in the east. Maybe back to his former team, but get someone better in return.
I’m glad the Phillies didn’t get Werth! As if Werth is going to help the Nats…….
December 5th, 20107:42 pm
Congradjulations to the Falcon fans…………
Sitting back on the bench may be a good idea. Rockies are interested in Willingham and I wouldn’t be suprised to see him get moved. Maybe that would make Spillbourghs available.
December 5th, 20107:43 pm
Werth just replaced Adam Dunn for the Nats……..
December 5th, 20107:44 pm
We win, but the Saints win too. Darned Saints need to lose.
December 5th, 20107:46 pm
Wow, nice enthusiasm
Thanks on the Info from earlier DOB……….
December 5th, 20107:47 pm
Dodgers may want David Ross.
December 5th, 20107:48 pm
It’s okay, Trey. As long as the Falcons keep winning, we’ll be okay. They’re one up on the Saints and if we tie, we have the tie breaker on them for now since we beat them. Plus, we play them again.
Not sure anyone expected Werth to sign with Washington. Thought Werth would hold out until Crawford was signed, so the teams that missed out on Crawford would compete for Werth & drive up his price. As it turned out, Werth got a helluva deal anyways, and Crawford looks to benefit as the same teams compete for him without Werth looming. It’s a good day to be Carl Crawford, and I guess Jason Werth too….
December 5th, 20107:49 pm
Sorry, jeffrey. How’s this?
YAYYYYYYY! Aweeeeeesomeeeeee win!!!!!!!
Brave4life- We almost had it
December 5th, 20107:50 pm
Why didnt the Nationals go after Crawford????
I feel like he could have been landed with decent contract
December 5th, 20107:51 pm
Lets try to get Willingham??
That’s pretty good
December 5th, 20107:52 pm
That is true, Sophie! I am just disappointed that the New Orleans fans get to be happy tonight.
December 5th, 20107:53 pm
based on what? Not that it matters because I doubt the Braves are interested
December 5th, 20107:54 pm
Most of them live in New Orleans…they are happy every night
You may be laughing about the worth deal, but next week we may be calling the Nats the Yankees of the NL!
The Owner in DC has steinbrenner type money!
And this shows he will spend big! He may sign Cliff Lee next then trade for AGon!
Uggla put up better numbers then Werth last year. Seems like Dan might be leaving soon.
December 5th, 20107:57 pm
Well, I’m happy – that’s fo’ sho.
I wonder what Philly Fan is doing right about now?
December 5th, 20107:59 pm
Until that happens with the Nats? Nats who? Oh never mind!
December 5th, 20108:08 pm
MLB Reference shows the Nats around a 80 million payroll. If there owner has money like Stienbrenner look for that number to increase more each year.
Shows the Phillies at 152 mil and the Mets at 140 Braves 100
December 5th, 20108:13 pm
cab, I don’t think I could be happy down there. I’m not even happy being in VA.
Red Sox has ACQUIRED Adrian Gonzalez. It’s a done deal and a press conference tomorrow.
December 5th, 20108:15 pm
Red Sox wised up. They had to trade for him w/ Werth off the table.
December 5th, 20108:16 pm
Say yes that the Jeter saga is over……..Talk to you guy’s later…. Got to go to Walmart….. Buy some Christmas music……..
Chris, on the Red Sox site they said the deal was nixed.
December 5th, 20108:17 pm
Chris, the Red Sox site said A Gon and the Red Sox couldn’t agree to a deal, because A Gon was offered six years and he wanted eight.
McFann O O
Soph How’s this?…Aweeeeeesomeeeeee win!!!!!!!
Not so good…in this case, you should not stretch the e’s ’cause they’re silent e’s…
The Nats may be 2 yrs away from really contending but the Owner has been trying to sign the top free agents since Tex.
December 5th, 20108:18 pm
They went ahead and did the deal. Said they had enough parameters in place.
December 5th, 20108:19 pm
Of course, MLB Trade Rumors say they acquired him.
Trey it’s all over Twitter and MLBTR that the trade has occurred.
December 5th, 2010
So the trade goes through just no extention?
December 5th, 20108:20 pm
The prospect package stays the same.
P’Cola, oh wow. I guess I looked at the outdated version. Heh, but I guess it’s not too bad that the Red Sox got him.
There will be an extension, just not at this time. Boston feels they have a shot to sign him long term, but no announcement regarding the extension at this time.
December 5th, 20108:21 pm
Trey, about 12mins ago..
December 5th, 20108:22 pm
Awesome…now McFann’s burnin Soph
So, have the Phillies done anything this off season aside from the fact that they lost Jayson Werth?
Yeah, and given this ridiculous contract that Werth signed, I’d probably be asking for the moon if I was Uggla. Prices are are clearly up. Please sit tight, Frank.
December 5th, 20108:23 pm
As the report says…could actually work out in the Sox’s favor if they don’t sign him to an extension until after the season starts.
Two less threats in the National League
Adam Dunn- He gone
Adrian Gonzalez- He gone
American league is getting stronger by the days
Kat, thank you! Yeah, I ended up seeing it on the trade rumors. I just went to the Red Sox page first.
Uggs wants to be a Brave though
December 5th, 20108:25 pm
Gonzalez-to-Red Sox deal off for now
By Ian Browne / MLB.com | 12/05/10 4:23 PM EST
Without Gonzalez, Red Sox focusing on big bat
Bullpen help another talking point for Epstein at Winter Meetings
The only players left on the market that are considered game changers are Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford
Cliff lee will most likely be a rangers or Yankee
Crawford I see going to the Angels/TIgers
I’m sure the Red Sox will get the extension done. You dont trade a big package for a 1 year rental.
December 5th, 20108:27 pm
VaBravesFan, I don’t know about that. I have seen the Braves do it or someting similar to that before.
December 5th, 20108:28 pm
something* Dang my spelling errors.
December 5th, 20108:30 pm
I still think they didnt get enough,
bunch of unproven double prospects
December 5th, 20108:34 pm
jeffrey d Awesome…now McFann’s burnin Soph
Can’t help it—stretching silent the wrong letters is a pet peeve of mine.
December 5th, 20108:35 pm
Buster Posey gets a parade float in Leesburg, GA. I wonder if BMac has ever been the star of a parade.
December 5th, 20108:37 pm
well we had control of Texiera for a season and a half. I really cant see the Braves making that trade with the thinking were only doing this to make us a winner for 2 seasons. they had to think they had a decent shot at locking him up. The RedSox will get the deal done. They have to much money to not get it done. If there locked on not giving him more than 6 years they wouldnt have made the trade. Cause I’m sure Gonzo is thinking if you wont give me what I want, I’ll get it next offseason when i’m a Free Agent.
December 5th, 20108:38 pm
I could live in New Orleans if it wasn’t so humid…I like a nice ocean breeze
December 5th, 20108:41 pm
True but you gotta remember Gonzo’s in his final year. They had no shot at keeping him, Obviously the Sox offered the best deal. They take it, and get 4.5 million in salary relief and gain some youngins. Much better than a return during Mid Season, which would equate to a Kotchman/Merek type of return.
December 5th, 20108:50 pm
Can’t wait for tomorrow to start. I love all the rumors that come out of the Winter Meetings. There may not be many jobs left by the end of December this year.
December 5th, 20108:54 pm
cab, I don’t like the accents in New Orleans to live there.
VABravesFan, yeah, but I am still not too fond of that deal.
If the sox pay half of camerons salary who want him?
December 5th, 20108:59 pm
Old school is a great movie
December 5th, 20109:03 pm
Hey, I say it aw-eeeeeeeeee-sum-eeeeeeee. It was that good.
Besides, those e’s were courtesy of Marteeeeen so it’s okay.
December 5th, 20109:04 pm
jeffrey, I blame all this McFann burning on you.
December 5th, 20109:05 pm
The Brewers are putting the finishing touches on a deal for Blue Jays pitcher Shaun Marcum, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Always been a big Marcum fan….if he could just stay on the mound more consistently. Maybe this means Greinke could be on his way to Toronto?
December 5th, 20109:06 pm
We’ll see. I know Grienke can block a trade to them so who knows.
December 5th, 20109:07 pm
December 5th, 20109:12 pm
Wormed your way outta that one…
Moe Berg I wonder if BMac has ever been the star of a parade.
He didn’t know it at the time, but he was the start of the 2010 All-Star parade…
STAR!! STAR, DANGit!!
Nova Scotia Steve
December 5th, 20109:13 pm
Interesting point on mlbtraderumors about the A. Gonzalez deal.
If Res Sox wait until after opening day to sign Adrian to a long-term deal it doesn’t affect their 2011 pay-roll – meaning they won’t get hit harder by the luxury tax.
Smart move….and I learned something today. Never knew that teams were able to do that…
“Can’t help it—stretching silent the wrong letters is a pet peeve of mine.”
Cool, I named one of my pet’s Peeve.
December 5th, 20109:15 pm
The Nats way overpaid for Jayson Werth…it almost looks like the type of contract the Braves gave to D-Lowe…just to GET HIM in here they were going to overpay no matter what. Well congrats Nats…u are gonna regret that contract in a few seasons…and Werth is a good player but he’s not a superstar type player and he got superstar type player from the Nats. Lets see him hit in that lineup and in that stadium away from Philly…I expect a decrease in numbers across the board. Also, any of the Nats with hot wives…u best be warned now that Werth is on your team…
December 5th, 20109:18 pm
Every player on the Nats, excluding Werth and Ryan Zimmerman, is being considered in trade talks, tweets MLB.com’s Bill Ladson. Josh Willingham, who has long been talked about in trade rumors, seems especially likely to be headed elsewhere now.
Supes, I’d rather the Nats overpay Werth than the Braves. Hopefully it will make the Nationals struggle for a while with money, so they can’t get any superstars.
December 5th, 20109:24 pm
What annoys me is that a few years ago when the Braves needed pitching badly the FA options were Lowe and Burnett and the best the could trade for was Vasquez (obviously worked out).
Since then Lee has been traded twice and is now a FA, Halladay, traded and extended, Oswalt traded, now Grienke is on his way out. Talk about missing the boat. Additionally the asking prices in the trades were not nearly as high as those ridiculously Peavy talks.
December 5th, 20109:25 pm
Colorado seems to have a lot of interest in Willingham. If they acquire him maybe they would be willing to trade Spillbourghs.
December 5th, 20109:31 pm
Spillbourghs is garbage.
December 5th, 20109:43 pm
Spillborghs plays all OF positions and has put up solid numbers every year. Hes RH and a platoon of him and Hinske in LF if/when Chipper goes down wouldn’t be bad.
December 5th, 20109:48 pm
ASpilborghs is neither a very good defensive player nor a very good hitter away from Coors. Not sure how he would fit in. Sure isn’t an ideal 4tgh OFer with that defensive play
December 5th, 20109:50 pm
Hes not terrible away and in a small sample size tears the cover off the ball at turner. You could acquire Spillbourghs and still promote Matt Young. Like I said the other day, its quite possible we have 6 guys who could play OF on this 25 man this year.
December 5th, 20109:53 pm
Back every one! Boston can’t agree on a contract with A Gon? Interesting???? Hmmmm………
December 5th, 20109:54 pm
They haven’t agreed yet but Boston went ahead and made the trade. Hoping to get something done in ST.
December 5th, 20109:55 pm
18 million per for 7 years! Didn’t see that one coming from the Nationals! Actually didn’t see that coming from anybody.
I guess they wanted him, huh.
December 5th, 201010:01 pm
Check out Brooks & Dunn” It Won’t Be Christmas With Out You”,Harry Connick, Jr. “When My Heart Finds Christmas”, and “Today’s Country Christmas” All really good Cd’s! You can buy them for $5 dollars or to up to $10 dollars……Great Music…….
