jeffrey d Yeah, that one stung a little
Yeah, sorry about that!
cabravesfan then I would be totally grossed out by dead spider on my shoe…
Yes, dead ones are just as gross as live ones…
December 4th, 201011:40 pm
cab, sometimes I just sweep them outside.
“I hate spiders too but VJ won’t let me kill them…I try to sic my dog on them”
I absolutely detest spiders. When I was in fourth grade, there was a girl in my class who had a giant scar on her cheek. She had been bitten by a brown recluse. As a nine-year-old, I completely internalized that spiders leave horrible scars and possible paralysis. Have never liked them since.
Nala likes to eat them…which is fine by me! Bugs are fine, snakes don’t bother me at all, but put a spider anywhere in my general vicinity, which is usually the entirety of the room that I am in, and I totally freak out…
December 4th, 201011:41 pm
Animals just have that innocence thing that you can’t help but feel compassion for them…I sometimes spray spiders with Windex and watch them die
McFann – I’ll live
Trey – just messin….I know what you’re saying, I’m just being annoying
They do leave horrible scars and possible paralysis! Spiders=BAD! Spider eating dog=GOOD!
where did wayne it utah go?
December 4th, 201011:42 pm
McFann, lol I did not say it like that! Jeffrey just copied and pasted two comments together! It’s contradicting though!
Then they just get stuck in the broom and when you think they are gone and go to check the bottom of the broom, the leap out at you…
Bugs are fine, snakes don’t bother me at all, but put a spider anywhere in my general vicinity, which is usually the entirety of the room that I am in, and I totally freak out…
Same goes for me, oh my gosh! I also can’t stand silverfish (it’s a bug, not a fish, for those who are fortunate enough not to know…).
December 4th, 201011:43 pm
cab, actually I have had a couple of spiders jump at me before. I try to sweep them out and then I shake the broom outside.
He’s DS1 now. Dewayne the Sensitve One (I think…)
December 4th, 201011:44 pm
cab–I have no dog to keep them away from me. Years later, I was traveling with my father in San Francisco and he suddenly started having facial paralysis. He saw a doctor out there–the doctor’s first thought: a spider bite. It turned out to be Bell’s Palsey. But the doctor’s first guess was a spider. They are very bad. Pretty much my only phobia.
jeffrey, lol it’s all good.
December 4th, 201011:45 pm
Oh, I know. I’m just proving that I cann be just as annoying as jeffrey (as if anyone doubted…)
Sorry again, jeffrey.
Good to know.
cab Then they just get stuck in the broom and when you think they are gone and go to check the bottom of the broom, the leap out at you…
Does anybody else’s dog love to lick dust off the carpet? Our dog Max will go along the walls (where it’s hard to get all the dust vacuumed off the carpet) and lick up the dust where the carpet and the baseboard meet!
With a dog like Max, who needs to vacuum!
I also do not like spiders, but I’m not afraid to kill them.
McFann, so I’ve noticed!
December 4th, 201011:46 pm
If they are dead they can’t jump at you. I had one chase me when I tried to pull down it’s web because it was blocking entry to my garage…I hit the web (it was a string, not the entire web) with my keys and a giant spider came flying out at me…I think I threw my keys at it, which was dumb because then I had to find my keys on the ground where the spider was…
I had some seriously GIANT spiders at the house I used to live in…I mean G.I.A.N.T!!
December 4th, 201011:47 pm
Anyone see the movie The Town? Just wondering if it was any good. — Andrew in PA
I saw it, thought it was very good. Should get one of the best-picture Oscar nominations, since there are 10 now.
Speaking of entertaining, this Big 12 championship game was every bit as exciting and competitive as the SEC championship was, well, not.
I almost had a black widow spider get on my head once when I was real little (3ish?). My Mother saved me…
BUT that’s enough spider talk before bed, don’t we think?
Nala likes to eat the fur that accumulates in the corners…but hey, it’s her fur! She should clean it up!
December 4th, 201011:48 pm
I was reading Rosenthal who thinks that now that Boston got Adrian gonzalez, the Yankees might go hard on Werth and Crawford, making Swisher kind of available, it might also make the other guy they have, cant recall his name, kind of available. Same goes if Redsox get any of those 2 guys as Rosenthal mentions they might need to trade Ellsbury to make room for Werth or Crawford.
YES!! I will have nightmares now…
December 4th, 201011:49 pm
cabravesfan @ 11:46—
a giant spider came flying out at me
I’m sorry, but that made me laugh out loud…not the situation AT. ALL—just the wording.
Trey so I’ve noticed!
Dang! Who keeps selling me out?
I’ve been burned worse by DOB.
Me: Boy, it sure is a lovely day today
DOB: Jeffrey D – are you serious? The Braves lost, a huge storm is about to roll through, Bruce Springsteen broke a hip, Robert is still on the blog, and two people were murdered downtown. How on earth could any sensible, rational person consider this to be a “lovely” day?
Me: Sorry, sir
cabravesfan (or should I say, youngun!)
Nala and Max would be good buds!
(trying to get VJ jealous with the winking!!)
December 4th, 201011:50 pm
Me, too, cabravesfan…me, too…
“Speaking of entertaining, this Big 12 championship game was every bit as exciting and competitive as the SEC championship was, well, not.”
Yes, I will have happy students for the last week of classes. A different outcome would have made this week pretty excruciating, I think.
December 4th, 201011:51 pm
DOB, as a georgia guy, cam newton is the guy. cant bring him down.
slap your chest auburn. tonight or today is your day.
jeffrey d @ 11:49—
Cab, yeah I tell you what is worse though. If you walk into a web of a huge spider and you do not notice until you feel a spider walking on your head. I know I was once laying on my floor playing Sega, while a child, and I felt something walking on my back and I jumped up, knocked it off and it was a huge, black spider.
Nala is not much of a fan of other dogs…she prefers to spend her time in the company of people
December 4th, 201011:52 pm
Sounds kinda like “The Days of our Baseball Lives” soap opera.
Folks, as much as I’d love to have a Ellsbury type hitter in our lineup, I am equally excited for the opportunity that our guys have to shine next spring (McLouth, Young and Schafer).
December 4th, 201011:53 pm
And 3 years from now it’ll be taken away
Try pulling on a t-shirt and realizing there is a spider on the front of it…and it was there when you pulled the thing over your head! Happened to me once
cab, try owning a spider when you have a fear of spiders.
December 4th, 201011:54 pm
I know theres little chance for that to happen
Well, it’s nice to know who your friends are…
Why on earth would you do that???
NCAA doesn’t have the power to strip D-I football titles…crazy, I know, but they don’t
December 4th, 201011:55 pm
cab, I have no idea why I do a lot of the things that I do.
That’s interesting. Max is a Pug, and Pug’s prefer people to other dogs. Sure, he will sniff a few buttz on occasion, but he prefers people.
When my oldest son is home (he lives in the basement apartment), Max will have nothing to do with anybody else, and follows him everywhere he goes.
December 4th, 201011:56 pm
CAB – but can’t they vacate wins? Meaning in a couple years UGA’s 2010 season record will be 6-5-1….aww yea
The most honest post I have seen on the blog today
What I don’t understand about the idea being floated around that Adrian Gonzalez wants a contract along the lines of Texeira…the only team in MLB giving such a contract is the Yankees. And they have someone at first for years to come. That contract does not set the market; it is an outlier to it.
December 4th, 201011:57 pm
hope mark richt takes notes. auburn, alabama, lsu, florida, all play for national championships.
georgia, plays for none.
we dont recruit for anyone in the state. auburn recruits against bama. we recruit against nobody.
Hey it’s Christmas season! You can always wish………
December 4th, 201011:58 pm
cab, well, a lot of the people I have seen on the streets have a good motto. Why lie?
Well, it’s more like Why lie, I need a beer!
Yes, they can strip wins, but not the actual title. You will notice that USC is still listed as the 2004 National Champion, even though the NCAA voided their wins…
if we dont beat boise to kick it off next year richt is cooked.
December 4th, 201011:59 pm
the only team in MLB giving such a contract is the Yankees. And they have someone at first for years to come
They’ll probably pay A-Gon $30 million to stand on the dugout and throw out t-shirts then….just so nobody else can have him
December 5th, 201012:02 am
I wonder if the Braves have ever considered buying low on Nolan Reimold. Had a good rookie year in 2009 and flopped last year. Loves to pull the ball.
Let’s get him down here and have Hoss work with him on his plate discipline. Bi-Lo!
December 5th, 201012:05 am
What do they think of Matt Diaz in Philly:
December 5th, 201012:06 am
DS1, I saw Nolan Reimold play for the Tides earlier in the season and he was impressive. I also liked Nelson Figueroa.
wayne from utah, how are things? did not know you changed up?
December 5th, 201012:07 am
Will the Berkman signing (and Jay demotion) cause the Cardinals to consider dealing Rasmus. They’d be crazy to deal him for anything short of a big prospect haul.
And would Xavier Nady be a decent pickup for the Braves. Sub for first and LF? He made 3.3 last year, and didn’t really produce. But his numbers in the second half picked up over the first half. Might be a good alternative.
Folks, I have an early bell in the morning. Catch up with you tomorrow night late.
Not much……..Matt who??????
December 5th, 201012:09 am
do braves have one move left this offseason?
December 5th, 201012:10 am
I’m good. Got tired of being such an azz hole to some folks. It wasn’t the real me. So now, I am Duh-Wayne the Sensitive One, or shortened to Da Sensitive One!
Just reminds me not to rip into folks on the blog. Even if they deserve it, I am refraining!
How ya doing? (check out ticker DNN. I bought back in the spring at 1.65, and now the Chinese need more uranium!! I just wish I’d bought about 10 times what I did………..
December 5th, 201012:11 am
why arent hinske and linebrink on the depth chart?
December 5th, 201012:18 am
Sorry, didn’t mean Nelson. I meant Paco Figueroa
December 5th, 201012:20 am
gootta love the old wayne, wayne from utah. love the old wayne.
wayne where have you been?
December 5th, 201012:23 am
not so sure dob, likes the old wayne.
December 5th, 201012:26 am
“Wayne in Utah, he is dead to me.”
just to clarify, efrim. who i think is the best blogger sans scoots.
i love macc. just dont think he is a four or five hitter.
not his fault. just think with his skill set he is a six hole hitter.
December 5th, 201012:32 am
Sometimes you gotta dance with the one you brung! Cleanup hitter or not, some days that was all we had. He did OK in my book in a batting slot that was not perfect for him.
December 5th, 201012:35 am
macc, is a decent hitter but to ask him hit four or five, is over his head.
macc is a perfect six hitter.
efrim dont dislike macc, just think batting him in the four hole is, was not going to work.
macc is a six hole guy.
uggla, chip, and heyward, should go in the 3,4,5 thing.
December 5th, 201012:36 am
Millege is going to be out there! Cut loose by Pirates………
December 5th, 201012:38 am
I could see moving Lowe to Texas for some prospects if NY scoops up Lee, or vice versa. With that freed up money and some of those same prospects (or some of our own) we could take Greinke off of KCs hands. We’d be getting younger and likely not lose much (if not gain) in the pitching department. I think we’d be selling high on Lowe.
but I think the Braves are done but for some tweaking.
Millege or Bill Hall? Maybe both?
December 5th, 201012:40 am
There are going to be a lot of potential jewels out there. Which ones will pan out, who knows. Will FW try to sign one is anybody’s guess.
I guess that’s what many of us get off on here. We just sit around and speculate on what the Braves may or may not do.
There are a lot of guys out there that I like, but then again, Frank NEVER asks for my opinion!
And let me tell you, it’s starting to make me upset! Frank, pick up the phone buddy! Give me a ring. Let’s do lunch? I am free on Tuesday afternoon. Let’s meet half way between Jacksonville and Orlando?
December 5th, 201012:43 am
What they think in Philly about the Uggla trade and our current team:
Why wouldn’t the Rangers just offer a similar package to KC to get Greinke instead of Lowe? That might be more realistic.
I don’t see the Braves getting two more guys, unless 1 is a SS and the other an outfielder.
December 5th, 201012:45 am
uga, we could’ve done without you instigating the rest of them into marley and me mode
December 5th, 201012:46 am
It was out there, so I thought I would throw in…….
December 5th, 201012:52 am
Every one have a good one! Nite, and talk tomorrow some time……. “Go!!! Braves!!!.”and Peace……..
December 5th, 20101:00 am
gotta love the brvey thing, the man with the best answers knows no bounds.
damn robert d’niro looks old.
December 5th, 20101:03 am
d’niro in goodfellas, when did he quit making good or great movies?
casino? his last great flick.
December 5th, 20101:05 am
bravey, got a old dog. as for a marley thing. never.
December 5th, 20101:06 am
“Robert, I’m a journalist. I don’t go around making bets for money on my blog, or anywhere else in public. Think, please.”
Yah – pretty obvious that wouldnt be kosher
Hey how about Oklahoma? Down 17-0 and come back to win 23-20. It was a good game – a fitting ending to Nebrask’a tenure in the Big 8/Big 12.
For what it’s worth re national tile games – The last two years I thought the SEC team would win but that it would be a game(you can actually pull my prediction for last year’s Alabama-Texas game and see it was darn close on the final score).
The last time I felt THIS stringly about the game was Florida Ohio State – when I saw and heard everyone picking Ohio State and remember thinking – what are they smoking this game is a complete mismatch (and was right)
I dont dislike Oregon or the Pac-10. I have no reason to. I dont particularly like Auburn. Matter of fact, back in the Pat Dye days they were one of my least favorite teams. AND I am not saying Oregon is bad. They are a decent football team – probably the fifth or sixth best team in the country
The fact of the matter is simply this. Oregon doesnt belong on the same football field with Auburn.
Whatever the line is on this game – bet the house on Auburn. It’s easy money
December 5th, 20101:10 am
falcons braveheart, is there a chance?
imagine philly coming in here with vick? \\
think about that nfc championship.
pretyy sure half of those fans would go all superman.
December 5th, 20101:11 am
Millege is going to be out there! Cut loose by Pirates……… ward
What part of Milledge’s OBP/slugging — .323/.373 in 2009, .332/.380 in 2010 — warrant anything close to an exclamation mark? You’re talking about a player who had a .696 OPS with 4 HRs and 21 RBI in 244 at-bats in ‘09, and a .712 OPS with 4 homers and 34 RBI in 379 at-bats in ‘10.
This is a guy who’s walked just once every 16 plate appearances in his career, and totaled 40 stolen bases in 60 attempts over five seasons.
December 5th, 20101:12 am
gotta agree, auburn will rock oregon. it will not be close.
December 5th, 20101:15 am
dob, got tickets to see the old 97’s looking forward to it.
the new buckhead theatre is kinda cool.
why arent hinske and linebrink on the depth chart? — ed
Because it doesn’t matter on Saturday, Dec. 5, two days after Hinske re-signed and the day after the Linebrink trade.
December 5th, 20101:17 am
DOB: Every body is willing to keep Mclouth! I see potential in Millege, and nothing in Mclouth.Who every one loves dearly!!!!!
didn’t bruce do a thing with the 97’s.
December 5th, 20101:20 am
I would take a chance on Millege, and not Mclouth…..I would give him a chance. Why not? Every one is willing to give Nate a chance.
December 5th, 20101:21 am
I’d be curious to see the list of everyone who loves McLouth dearly…
December 5th, 20101:23 am
so cal hammering ucla.
What does Nate offer? Just his 7 million, and nothing in return……Peace, and Nite every one……Talk tomorrow……Go!!! Braves!!!.”
I would take a chance on Millege, and not Mclouth…..I would give him a chance. Why not?
That’s easy. We already have McLouth, and whether we like it or not have to pay him 6.5M.
Milledge isnt our problem and so why go and make him our problem.
Now if McLouth starts off like last year……
December 5th, 20101:24 am
uga-brave – and I sit next to a happy USC fan…
December 5th, 20101:25 am
Regarding Zack Greinke
When his head and his stuff are both right, he may be the best pitcher in the game. His stuff can be flat out filthy.
Doesnt seem like he’d be a good fit in New York – I dont think he has the mental makeup to handle the pressure playing in that spotlight all the time
An interesting note on the OU-Nebraska game. I watched it with a bunch of folks that were hardcore OU fans – and several of them have an opinion of Bob Stoops that is similar to mine regarding Bobby Cox. Of course, scanning through OU’s recent bowl performances ………..
As for the whole BCS thing – UConn, who lost to Temple and Rutgers, gets a BCS bid —- It’s time for a playoff system.
December 5th, 20101:26 am
uga, I definitely think the Falcons have a chance. And you’re right about Vick versus the Falcons in the playoffs. Would be the hottest ticket in town. Crowd could swing either way.
As for Deniro, he’s just taking any script they give him and cashing checks at this point. Can’t blame him. He made his classics, and put in his work. I read that bio that came out about him about 5 years ago, and they speculated in that book, that he pretty much just takes any role now so that he can fund other things he’s interested in, like his film company and real estate and so forth
December 5th, 20101:27 am
venice, good luck on that. enjoy lane.
ten less every year, for three.
December 5th, 20101:29 am
I would take a chance on Millege, and not Mclouth…..I would give him a chance. Why not? Every one is willing to give Nate a chance. — ward
Ward, do you honestly not understand why McLouth would “get a chance” with the Braves before Milledge? There are 7.75 million reasons why.
That’s the amount that the Braves owe McLouth — $6.5 million in salary in 2011, and a $1.25 million buyout of his $10.25 million option in 2012. That is a guaranteed contract, which means the Braves must pay it whether they start him, bench him, release him tomorrow, cut him in spring training, or anything else (except an unlikely trade).
That’s why “everyone” is willing to give Nate a chance, as you put it. Because most here understand that the Braves can’t very well afford just to release him now, without at least letting him show this spring and/or early season that he might be a productive hitter again, like he was for a couple of weeks after he got back from the minors last season.
If he was released, he could sign with another team for the major league minimum and play for that team while collecting more than $7 mill from the Braves during the 2010 season.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
