“I hate spiders too but VJ won’t let me kill them…I try to sic my dog on them”
I absolutely detest spiders. When I was in fourth grade, there was a girl in my class who had a giant scar on her cheek. She had been bitten by a brown recluse. As a nine-year-old, I completely internalized that spiders leave horrible scars and possible paralysis. Have never liked them since.
Nala likes to eat them…which is fine by me! Bugs are fine, snakes don’t bother me at all, but put a spider anywhere in my general vicinity, which is usually the entirety of the room that I am in, and I totally freak out…
Bugs are fine, snakes don’t bother me at all, but put a spider anywhere in my general vicinity, which is usually the entirety of the room that I am in, and I totally freak out…
Same goes for me, oh my gosh! I also can’t stand silverfish (it’s a bug, not a fish, for those who are fortunate enough not to know…).
cab–I have no dog to keep them away from me. Years later, I was traveling with my father in San Francisco and he suddenly started having facial paralysis. He saw a doctor out there–the doctor’s first thought: a spider bite. It turned out to be Bell’s Palsey. But the doctor’s first guess was a spider. They are very bad. Pretty much my only phobia.
Does anybody else’s dog love to lick dust off the carpet? Our dog Max will go along the walls (where it’s hard to get all the dust vacuumed off the carpet) and lick up the dust where the carpet and the baseboard meet!
With a dog like Max, who needs to vacuum!
I also do not like spiders, but I’m not afraid to kill them.
If they are dead they can’t jump at you. I had one chase me when I tried to pull down it’s web because it was blocking entry to my garage…I hit the web (it was a string, not the entire web) with my keys and a giant spider came flying out at me…I think I threw my keys at it, which was dumb because then I had to find my keys on the ground where the spider was…
I had some seriously GIANT spiders at the house I used to live in…I mean G.I.A.N.T!!
I was reading Rosenthal who thinks that now that Boston got Adrian gonzalez, the Yankees might go hard on Werth and Crawford, making Swisher kind of available, it might also make the other guy they have, cant recall his name, kind of available. Same goes if Redsox get any of those 2 guys as Rosenthal mentions they might need to trade Ellsbury to make room for Werth or Crawford.
Me: Boy, it sure is a lovely day today DOB: Jeffrey D – are you serious? The Braves lost, a huge storm is about to roll through, Bruce Springsteen broke a hip, Robert is still on the blog, and two people were murdered downtown. How on earth could any sensible, rational person consider this to be a “lovely” day? Me: Sorry, sir
Cab, yeah I tell you what is worse though. If you walk into a web of a huge spider and you do not notice until you feel a spider walking on your head. I know I was once laying on my floor playing Sega, while a child, and I felt something walking on my back and I jumped up, knocked it off and it was a huge, black spider.
Sounds kinda like “The Days of our Baseball Lives” soap opera.
Folks, as much as I’d love to have a Ellsbury type hitter in our lineup, I am equally excited for the opportunity that our guys have to shine next spring (McLouth, Young and Schafer).
Try pulling on a t-shirt and realizing there is a spider on the front of it…and it was there when you pulled the thing over your head! Happened to me once
What I don’t understand about the idea being floated around that Adrian Gonzalez wants a contract along the lines of Texeira…the only team in MLB giving such a contract is the Yankees. And they have someone at first for years to come. That contract does not set the market; it is an outlier to it.
Yes, they can strip wins, but not the actual title. You will notice that USC is still listed as the 2004 National Champion, even though the NCAA voided their wins…
Will the Berkman signing (and Jay demotion) cause the Cardinals to consider dealing Rasmus. They’d be crazy to deal him for anything short of a big prospect haul.
And would Xavier Nady be a decent pickup for the Braves. Sub for first and LF? He made 3.3 last year, and didn’t really produce. But his numbers in the second half picked up over the first half. Might be a good alternative.

“Robert, I’m a journalist. I don’t go around making bets for money on my blog, or anywhere else in public. Think, please.”
Yah – pretty obvious that wouldnt be kosher
Hey how about Oklahoma? Down 17-0 and come back to win 23-20. It was a good game – a fitting ending to Nebrask’a tenure in the Big 8/Big 12.
For what it’s worth re national tile games – The last two years I thought the SEC team would win but that it would be a game(you can actually pull my prediction for last year’s Alabama-Texas game and see it was darn close on the final score).
The last time I felt THIS stringly about the game was Florida Ohio State – when I saw and heard everyone picking Ohio State and remember thinking – what are they smoking this game is a complete mismatch (and was right)
I dont dislike Oregon or the Pac-10. I have no reason to. I dont particularly like Auburn. Matter of fact, back in the Pat Dye days they were one of my least favorite teams. AND I am not saying Oregon is bad. They are a decent football team – probably the fifth or sixth best team in the country
The fact of the matter is simply this. Oregon doesnt belong on the same football field with Auburn.
Whatever the line is on this game – bet the house on Auburn. It’s easy money
Millege is going to be out there! Cut loose by Pirates……… ward
What part of Milledge’s OBP/slugging — .323/.373 in 2009, .332/.380 in 2010 — warrant anything close to an exclamation mark? You’re talking about a player who had a .696 OPS with 4 HRs and 21 RBI in 244 at-bats in ‘09, and a .712 OPS with 4 homers and 34 RBI in 379 at-bats in ‘10.
This is a guy who’s walked just once every 16 plate appearances in his career, and totaled 40 stolen bases in 60 attempts over five seasons.
I would take a chance on Millege, and not Mclouth…..I would give him a chance. Why not?
That’s easy. We already have McLouth, and whether we like it or not have to pay him 6.5M.
Milledge isnt our problem and so why go and make him our problem.
Now if McLouth starts off like last year……
When his head and his stuff are both right, he may be the best pitcher in the game. His stuff can be flat out filthy.
Doesnt seem like he’d be a good fit in New York – I dont think he has the mental makeup to handle the pressure playing in that spotlight all the time
An interesting note on the OU-Nebraska game. I watched it with a bunch of folks that were hardcore OU fans – and several of them have an opinion of Bob Stoops that is similar to mine regarding Bobby Cox. Of course, scanning through OU’s recent bowl performances ………..
As for the whole BCS thing – UConn, who lost to Temple and Rutgers, gets a BCS bid —- It’s time for a playoff system.
uga, I definitely think the Falcons have a chance. And you’re right about Vick versus the Falcons in the playoffs. Would be the hottest ticket in town. Crowd could swing either way.
As for Deniro, he’s just taking any script they give him and cashing checks at this point. Can’t blame him. He made his classics, and put in his work. I read that bio that came out about him about 5 years ago, and they speculated in that book, that he pretty much just takes any role now so that he can fund other things he’s interested in, like his film company and real estate and so forth
I would take a chance on Millege, and not Mclouth…..I would give him a chance. Why not? Every one is willing to give Nate a chance. — ward
Ward, do you honestly not understand why McLouth would “get a chance” with the Braves before Milledge? There are 7.75 million reasons why.
That’s the amount that the Braves owe McLouth — $6.5 million in salary in 2011, and a $1.25 million buyout of his $10.25 million option in 2012. That is a guaranteed contract, which means the Braves must pay it whether they start him, bench him, release him tomorrow, cut him in spring training, or anything else (except an unlikely trade).
That’s why “everyone” is willing to give Nate a chance, as you put it. Because most here understand that the Braves can’t very well afford just to release him now, without at least letting him show this spring and/or early season that he might be a productive hitter again, like he was for a couple of weeks after he got back from the minors last season.
If he was released, he could sign with another team for the major league minimum and play for that team while collecting more than $7 mill from the Braves during the 2010 season.

Because it doesn’t matter on Saturday, Dec. 5, two days after Hinske re-signed and the day after the Linebrink trade.

That’s easy. We already have McLouth, and whether we like it or not have to pay him 6.5M.
Milledge isnt our problem and so why go and make him our problem.
Now if McLouth starts off like last year……

Regarding Zack Greinke
