man, what happens if Jordan Schafer figures it all out in ST… I mean if the kid plays great and McLouth struggles still that has to make Nate the highest paid 4th OFer in baseball lol. Schafer starter in CF on opening, Long shot but a good thought.

I don’t think it’s a matter of “figuring it out” with Schafer, but just a matter of staying healthy for the first time since he broke the bone in his wrist at the outset of the 2009 season. As we saw in spring training 2009, he had it figured out. He played great that spring to win the opening-day CF job, then hit two homers in that first series at Philly before hurting his wrist.

yeah your right. If his whole problem is just staying healthy why is he not a regarded as a good prospect anymore it seems? Everything seemed to go downhill very fast. Alot of people think he has no chance.

I’d be very surprised if the Braves did more than ask about him earlier in the offseason, just like at least half the teams in baseball probably did, But that’s just my initial guess. Haven’t heard his name mentioned by anyone connected with the Braves, and that’s first time I’ve seen a legit source (Bob Elliott) mention Braves in any connection with him this winter, that I can recall.
But if you read what Bob wrote, it was nothing more than a list of teams he’s been told have asked about Greinke. Not when they asked, not if it was a routine call where teams are feeling each other out and checking to see what the other might be looking to do with a variety of players, etc. Just being mentioned in a sentence with other teams that have asked about a player doesn’t, by itself, mean much these days.

If schafer could get it going that would plug a huge hole.good centerfielders are not easy to come by right now. He could save the braves a lot of money to be applied somewhere else.

One huge thing I noticed. Jeter has played 1 less season than Chipper but has almost 500 more hits. Thats impressive. But! Chipper has 200 or so more Homeruns and has a better OBP,SLG for his career. Also has over 500 more Walks, and 300 less Strikeouts!!! Chipper’s Better for sure. Jeter gets all the fame cause he plays for the Yanks and has more WS wins.

thats true. they will spend as much as they want. But the more they spend they get hit with that Luxury Tax, or w/e it is.
BTW Jeter on the open Market wouldnt even get a 3 year deal LOL. He would be lucky to just get over 10 mil a season. It would have been nice to see the Yankees stick it to him and say 3 years 45 mil take it or leave it. Final Offer. A Declining SS who’s average defense at best is getting worse (yet wins a Gold Glove LOL NY for ya) Had one of his worst offensive seasons too.

RedSox say after getting Adrian, who they will be giving a deal like Tex or Horward recieved, would not be discouraged from pursuing Carl Crawford, another lefty bat. Which would make it Crawford,Adrian,Drew,Ortiz,Ellsbury. Its crazy they can dish out like 150 mil to Adrian and then dish another 100 mil to Crawford possibly LOL

Playoffs-
Schafer’s success in Atlanta came after he was suspended. The major reason he started to struggle was because he hurt his wrist and never mentioned how bad it hurt (and obviously it was a lot more serious then anyone thought at the time)

First of all, Schafer did fine in AA and in spring training the next year after being suspended for the HGH thing.
And, as to Ankiel, you’re getting your facts all wrong. Ankiel received a shipment of HGH in 2004. In 2007, that was exposed about Ankiel. In 2007, he admitted using the HGH under the care of a doctor at the time he received the shipment in 2004. Ankiel was then named in the Mitchell Report when it was released in December 2007. Ankiel then had the season he had in 2008 AFTER all that was exposed about him.

As for Schafer, I guess will see what he does this year. He can’t use the wrist injury excuse again this year.

The feel good part of Ankiel’s story happened when he got called up in 2007. Late in that season, the stories about his HGH ties came up. He was then named in the Mitchell Report after that season. Ankiel then went on to have a fine season in 2008 AFTER all the HGH stories, hitting 25 homers and having an .846 OPS.

McFann, you have a cockatiel! I had one as a child, but I traded him to my aunt and uncle for a hamster. I feel horrible about it now, but I thought it was cool that hamsters dug holes in their bedding. The cockatiel’s name was Rockey and he would whistle the Andy Griffith theme song.

If the Braves involve Jair in a Grienke trade they are stupid in my opinion. The career numbers between the 2 are very similar. JJ’s ERA is lower, he is younger, and MUCH CHEAPER. Maybe including Minor and/or Beachy, but Not Jair. But it really doesn’t matter as I don’t see the Braves going after another starter at this point.

Aw! We had Gerbils 2008 through 2009, and they were a lot of fun. I love cockatiels (and all birds under the sun); they’re loud, but are great pets. Course, for me, it helps that Petey took such a liking to me. Not sure what I did, but heck, it works.
The cockatiel’s name was Rockey and he would whistle the Andy Griffith theme song.
Adorable! Petey whistles that, too! In fact, I need to get a video of him singing and post it on my PhotoBucket page to show you guys. My Sister did take an adorable video of him talking, I need to get that up here.
His Andy Griffith is so cute—ever since his first big Night Fright (December 6, 2001), he’s gotten it a little mixed up, poor baby. But he still has all the parts down, they just sometimes come in a different order.
He does another whistle, too, that’s like a combination of this song they played during a Dick Van D. episode where Rob did a Lurrell and Hardy bit with his buddy, the Leave It To Beaver theme song, and just a touch of the Hogan’s Heroes theme. He likes TV show themes that have no singing.
My favorite things that he says are, “Who’s a pretty bird?” (which he now only says in the morning but only if he feels like it), “Uh-oh!” and “Oops!”

uga-brave, I know how you feel. I had a dog for 15 years and I broke down when my mom and I had to put him down. I could not find it in my heart to do it again. It may seem humane, but I just don’t see it as humane. I have an eight year old dog back home and I think about her age, but I don’t plan on putting her down. Especially after what I saw in the news about that dog who was put down that came back to life.

They are. I just love them a ton…I’m sure quite a few people would think I was a little weird about my birds, especially Petey and my Wrennies. But I don’t care.
God put them here for us to enjoy, might as well go with it!

That would be fun! They cann learn a lot when they’re young…I think Petey’s pretty much passed the learning stage, though I’m not sure off the top of my head when that is. But I do know they learn best when they’re young.
