SEC pride and I gotta agree with what MikeInFl said at 7:44.
“Be glad to. Because I’m not convinced Oregon will beat Auburn either.”
It’s all about depth of game quickness
Look, there are individual players in the Pac-10. Big-10, ACC, Big East, and even the WAC and Mountain West who can play with anybody
But when you look at in-game quickness (as opposed to 40 times) two or three deep at every position on both sides of the ball, ONLY the Big 12 can even pretend to keep up with the SEC
And that total team quickness is why the teams that turn the corner ten times a game and rack up 50 points a game all year suddenly find that the d-line seems to be in their backfield one tick before the ball is snapped when they play the elite of the SEC
Frankly I think it would be great for college football if things were more level. But, at this point, they simply arent.
Will it change? Sure it will. This kind of stuff is cyclical
One of these days, the SEC is gonna play someone in the title game and find themselves overmatched and it’ll be like wow, where did that come from
What I am saying is that Oregon, for all the points they’ve put up against who they have played, havent shown me any more reason to think they are that team and this is the year than any of the other highly touted, supposedly powerhouse teams that have been summarily dismantled by a progression of SEC teams over the past decade
It said that Braves have at least inquired on Zack Greinke. Perhaps send Jurrjens over there in part of the deal (and obviously more)? Just speculation of course.
Maybe that was before the Uggla deal. Can’t imagine they’d be able to add the payroll, and want to give up what it would take to get him. Never hurts to check the price though…..if the report is even true.
Jake, my brother keeps whining about how Larry Drew doesn’t play Jordan Crawford enough. I kind of agree with him because from what I’ve seen (which is pretty limited), he’s not bad.
I can’t believe there are that many empty seats in Miami for the Heat game.
I can, got a lot of family down there, thats Dolphins territory. Thats pretty much the only pro team they really support. A lot of the national media love to give Atlanta flack for our fan support but Miami has always been just as bad if not worse.

I gotta agree with you and your brother Soph but like you the times i’ve seen him have been limited but they have left an impression on me. To me, Teague still hasn’t developed a good enough offensive game and turns the ball over to much for my liking but how does he learn if he doesn’t play. I still would like to see the rookie more though.
I think most folks are beginning to see that this teams struggles stretched far beyond coach Woodson and his not so good offensive game. I’ve found myself questioning their effort a lot this season. I almost miss the bald guy constantly yelling at them from the bench.
I lived In Boca Raton Fl for a year and agreed, Dolphins down there is a Religion especially Dan Marino…he’s a living legend down there, even though I hear he was a prick in person

I don’t like Oregon or Auburn. Actually, I sort of liked both teams in the past. But Oregon is simply buying its success with Nike money, and Auburn has this Cam Newton thing. Why do all these NCAA investigations take years, but this only took a few weeks? I hear he cheated on tests and stole something at Florida. The way the whole thing happened, saying Cam knew nothing, just seems odd. I will grudgingly pull for Oregon. He seems like a very confident and assertive young man. Hard to believe he had zero involvement in his own career development. To be that successful, you have to be very competitive, and I just don’t think you compete that hard just because you love football. At that level, you do it because you want to play in the NFL. So saying he was happy to be completely ignorant about his future makes no sense to me.
Looks like some of those seats are starting to fill up almost halfway through the second quarter. That’s like showing up to a game in the 4th inning. why bother?

Grienke doesnt make sense for us, he wouldnt fit in our budget. Also it would take a good package to get him. He’s under contract for 2 more seasons at 13.5 mil a season. The money doesnt fit at all. Trade Derek Lowe to a team in desperate need of a starting pitcher thats willing to take on most of Lowe’s contract which would mean we wouldnt get much in return and then deal youngins for Grienke…… Idk I think were set.

I understand. Practice makes perfect…….and I’m serious. That’s why I leave weapons alone. If you don’t use them constantly, you lose respect for them, and that leads to accidents. Unfortunately, fatal ones very often. I also stay out of the woods during hunting season. A lot of itchy, shoot-first, see what moved second fingers out there.
Believe me, we have our own conspiracy in the SEC. a bunch of people believe that the SEC has officials protect the unbeaten teams of the league. Does it happen? I don’t know. But some calls this year really make you wonder. And I’m not talking about just against the UofA. It has happened to many teams.
There was the opposite thought out here for a few years- USC (the best in the conference at that time) was being called for an alarmingly higher number of penalties then the rest of the league…theories abounded!
I can’t believe there are that many empty seats in Miami for the Heat game. — Braveheart
I can. Having lived there and covered sports there for 13 years, I can honestly say it’s the worst overall college and pro sports market of any major metro area in the U.S.
As you know, they draw flies for baseball. They had fewer than 30,000 for UM’s final home game this season, and rarely sell out any UM football game if the ‘Canes aren’t competing for a national title or playing one of the two biggest state schools. They rarely sell out hoops games despite having the smallest arena in the ACC.
As for it being “Dolphins country,” check the empty seats in the upper deck at some of their games. A few years ago, the Dolphins had the dubious distinction of being the only team that had NFL playoff games blacked out locally — in back-to-back years a while back if I’m not mistaken — because they didn’t sell out before the blackout deadline.
I’ve got a strong suspicion that either Brooks Conrad or Diory Hernandez won’t be on the Braves opening day roster.
The Braves obviously need another backup outfielder, especially with Prado expected to fill in for Chipper at third at times. And that outfielder should be able to play centerfield too.
We also need a backup shortstop. With the signing of Eric Henske, we have limited roster spots left. So, one of our utility infielders needs to be able to play the outfield, too (sort of a Omar Infante type).
Neither Brooksie or Diory fit the bill there. One of them has to go.
What do you think? DOB–anyone?
I can’t and won’t root for Oregon. I’m SEC all the way. I’m just happy though that the championship game is between Auburn and Oregon. No offense to all the Boise and TCU fans but I think the championship game this year definitely features the two best teams.
As for the Cam Newton controversy I think most folks are making a big deal about it. They never said Cam is in the clear, they said currently and right now, at this point in their investigation he is eligible to play. I never read it liked they completely cleared the guy. Anyway, I enjoy watching him play. What will happen will happen.
It would be a wonderful surprise to hear that we got Greinke, but I am not going to get my hopes up. However, the holidays are right around the corner and it would be a great gift for the Braves.
Playoffs, I don’t know what the Braves plan on doing. Anything is possible, but we could have brought back Diaz if we thought we needed another backup.

A few years ago, the Dolphins had the dubious distinction of being the only team that had NFL playoff games blacked out locally — in back-to-back years a while back if I’m not mistaken — because they didn’t sell out before the blackout deadline.
I called it Dolphins country because that pretty much is the only pro sports team that the city ever really talks about. No mention of the marlins, occasional mentions of the heat but at least in terms of conversation for pro sports the dolphins are the team they talk about the most but like I said, regardless of team i’ve always thought they are just as bad if not worse than Atlanta. In my personal opinion, I think they are worse for the reasons you said but it always seems to me at least that Atlanta catches the worse flack nationally for having bad pro-sports fans.
Idk what about send Derek Lowe and 2-3 prospects with 3 mil for Grienke. The Royals end up paying Lowe 13.5 a year while adding youngins and filling Grienke’s spot. We get Grienke for 2 seasons. I’m not saying I like this idea just throwing it out there. How much better would Grienke be over Lowe for 2 seasons? Would it be worth trading prospects for? I mean we already have a great rotation. I like the way Lowe pitched for us. We should stand pat unless its a no-brianer type of deal.
Trey–But Diaz is limited and where he can play. Basically just left field;, he played some rightfield with the Braves. But doesn’t have a good enough arm to play there. That’s one reason he’s gone.
What the Braves need is two backup middle infielders, one of which can play the outfield
Yeah but who pays a Backup OFer 2.5 mil, Diaz cant play CF, He’s a average Defender at best and also our Corner OF spots are filled. Were better off paying less than a million to a Schafer or Young. Diaz would get very little playing time and be another pinch hitter, just wont play enough to make 2.5 mil. See if the Braves added a Matt Kemp for example, keeping Diaz for 2.5 mil makes tons of sense. So he can platoon with McLouth in LF and get plenty of AB’s.
Bench
Ross, Hinske, Mather, Hernandez, Young or Schafer
Conrad was very clutch as a pinch hitter but Mather can play 1b,3b,Lf,Rf and could be a more athletic Hinske type of player. Hernandez is a good defender who can play 3b,SS,2b he gets the nod.
Hopefully Young wins the Job so Schafer can stay in AAA and get as many AB’s as he can. Schafer still has a chance to be our everyday CF in 2012, and his chances are better if he gets alot of playing time, and thats in AAA.
we suppost to get a dusting or less, Its snowing right now, starting to stick to the trash can a little. I know south of here in NC is where most will fall.
If we’re EVEN rumored to be kicking the tires on Greinke sounds like ol’ Frank maybe isn’t done…. especially with about $1 million to spend as of right now.
We may not be bystanders. Sounds like a Lowe move could happen, since he’s the big ticket item needed to free up payroll. Interesting.
And, of course, convince Kawakami he needs to take the next flight to Tokyo.
I can bet every team atleast asked about Grienke, he is simaler to Justin Upton, everybody’s interested. Just think in 2 year’s Zack will be a free Agent he’s gonna get more than 13.5 mil a year for sure.
Greinke playing in Atlanta is more believable than Greinke playing in New York. I saw where he was willing to be traded to the Yankees on espn’s bottom line but I couldn’t help but thinking this could be Javy Vazquez times 10 situation in New York. Big change from Kansas City Zach.
Or the Braves could just trade a package for Adrian Gonzalez. And lets win a World Series in 2011 LOL The RedSox would be pissed. We could easily offer a better deal. Then next offseason we decide who to Lock Up between Uggla and Gonzo lol, I’m not serious people just having fun.
Man, let ST begin. MATHER, YOUNG, SCHAFER, and CONSTANZA battling for the last OF slot. With his experience and versatility, I got to believe ‘THE BEAV’ has the upper hand going in.

richbrave, I actually did surprisingly well, even though I haven’t shot in over a year and a half. Not sure what my score would have been, since I didn’t keep score.
