I thought Javy Vazquez was bad in terms of receiving run support but KK had a whole nother level of run support, or lack thereof…

I’m not going to argue that KK’s pitched great, but has he really pitched poorly enough to force the Braves to shove him in the basement and eat millions just to get rid of him?
I know he’s not overly popular on here, but a few things to consider:
-He allowed 3 or fewer runs in 10 of his 16 starts last season
-He had an ERA under 4 in 2009
-His ERA since becoming a Brave (4.32) is lower than Lowe’s (4.33)
Again, not saying that KK is amazing, but I do think he’s better than some make him out to be.”
I thought that way after 2009 and thought he would be better in 2010. He wasn’t – he seemed to go in the other direction. I know he had awful run support (I don’t know the numbers but I know it was not good). I don’t think you can really compare him to Lowe – well, you can, but it doesn’t seem likely the Braves see it that way. Is it fair that they have decided to give up on KK? Can he be a good pitcher in the MLB? Maybe. But it apparently is what it is. And if they’re going to eat money on a contract, it’s easier for them to do it with a starting pitcher at this point than a CF.
Soph – I just wonder why it’s Sophia. I know on Friends when Ross and Rachel had Emma there was a huge spike in that name. And isn’t the girl in those Twilight books/movies named Isabella (2nd or 3rd on the list)

I wouldn’t have, players leave all the time, thats what free agency is about. If Cleveland fans had actually paid attention to Lebron over the years, they could have actually read the writing on the wall for this one. Him leaving wasn’t exactly a shocking development to me, it was him going to Miami to form basketballs version of voltron that surprised me.
Matty D. on not being an everyday player: “[A] lot of people would think about the money they’re not making if they don’t play every day, but we all make enough money.”
No, I haven’t been this season T’hawkin. I’ve only been to one Falcons game my whole life and it made me feel claustrophobic. I don’t like the Dome. The Falcons/Saints game would be a blast but it’s probably crazy expensive.
If the Braves are willing to take a $5 million hit, then I agree with you, DOB.
Which beggars a good question: not counting option buyouts, or injuries during a contract, have the Braves eaten anything beyond $3 million in contract money on a players they have either released or traded in the past 10 years?

yeah, it’s not like the whole world didn’t know he was gonna leave at least 2 years ago, and maybe even a year or two before that.
What do they pay NBA coaches to do? A kindergartener could come up with an offense that consists of you stand over there by yourself with the ball, and the other 4 of you should stand on the other side of the court staring at the guy with the ball
Wonder if the Braves would be interested in Tony Gwynn who was non-tendered by the Padres. He would be a minor league deal type, make him eanr a job in spring traning. Plays CF and has good speed.
A kindergartener could come up with an offense that consists of you stand over there by yourself with the ball, and the other 4 of you should stand on the other side of the court staring at the guy with the ball
That’s like saying baseball is so easy because even a 5-year old can hit a ball with a stick
Didn’t “Voltron” involve forming a unit? Has that happened yet with the Heat? Will it ever? And if it doesn’t, is that the coach’s fault? I’m reminded why I so prefer college basketball to the NBA.
For the heat its really to early to tell how good they will be. I never jumped on the whole, “they’re gonna win 5 plus rings” bandwagon because you don’t win with a team on paper. You gotta put it together and so far they have yet to do it but I wouldn’t count them out already, not with all that talent. That young coach has got his work cut out for him.
With all due respect to Matty D, if Hinske, with the season he had, is worth $1.45, then Matty is going to find getting that $2.55 mil a very tough proposition indeed.
If McLouth were not in the books, Matty would’ve had a better chance. Good luck, Mr. Diaz – you are a good man, and you will be missed.

Spot on about “you don’t win with a team on paper” (ask the Yankees! ) I don’t count the Heat out at all – they won it all a few years ago with less talent, didn’t they? (I have a sibling who is a Heat fan so . . . .)
I once spent a couple of drunken hours in an airport lounge arguing with a colleague (who was not a sports fan) that the art and craft in something like top quality spin bowling in international cricket is akin to the art and craft of any artist in any aesthetic field.
It made perfect sense at the time and I believe I made a wonderful argument for the aesthetics of sport even though I was three sheets to the wind at the time.
Hinske re-signing is a big deal. Many a good team has gone down for lack of a reliable bench. Hinske has proved he has what it takes to stay prepared and come thru in this role.
Bigwheel – unless Boog was doing the game last night, too (I don’t think he was), ESPN didn’t do that. You’re right – they should have, if they didn’t!
Vitale was doing the MSU-Duke game last night and congratulating the guy he was broadcasting with about getting the Sunday night MLB job. It wasn’t Boog.
Tony Gwynn was non-tendered. Not a stick by any means, but the guy has a serious glove. Also, Bobby Jenks was non-tendered (though he might be looking for a closer’s role, despite coming off one of his worst seasons).

Which beggars a good question: not counting option buyouts, or injuries during a contract, have the Braves eaten anything beyond $3 million in contract money on a players they have either released or traded in the past 10 years?

players leave all the time, thats what free agency is about. If Cleveland fans had actually paid attention to Lebron over the years, they could have actually read the writing on the wall for this one. Him leaving wasn’t exactly a shocking development to me, it was him going to Miami to form basketballs version of voltron that surprised me.
yeah, it’s not like the whole world didn’t know he was gonna leave at least 2 years ago, and maybe even a year or two before that.
