For sanity’s sake there are some posters you just scroll on by or when you read their “work” you go into it with the mindset that this person has “special” or unique opinions, ones that if I took seriously i’d drive myself crazy. I think we all know who falls into those categories, no names needed.

Did Cox steal your girlfriend?”

No. He did far worse.

He ruined my favorite baseball team.

See, I can always find another girlfriend.

But I could never root for another baseball team and really mean it.

“Conrad’s highest value was as a hitter from the seventh inning on”

and his greatest limitation was his defense.

In other words, he presented a dilemma – how do you tap his value while avoiding having him hurt you

Cox didnt have the intelligence required to solve this particular puzzle

End result – we have the Giants beaten, but lose

You’re right. There will always be clowns who think that a Hall of Fame manager isn’t good enough, a lazy, 28 year old, immature SS with marginal ability will carry us to a World Series, and a 90 win team is somehow on the same level with the Pirates.

Actually, from my observations Bobby Cox is quite an articulate person with a unique way of getting the most out of his players without throwing them under the bus. And anybody that thinks his lines to the press after the game are anything but a deflection of attention away from the players have somehow missed the point.

Robert, did you really believe that BC believed all that poppycock he was feeding DOB and the others? Did you believe him?

DOB – yes im pretty sure Feliz was in the Tex deal, i remember reading a report that tex orginally wanted jojo reyes instead of matt harrison because harrison was injury prone and at the time and jojo had the higher cieling (scary enough) but they agreed to harrison because there was a deal that if harrison did not pass his physical the day of the trade then we would have to inclue feliz and sure enough harrison did not pass it that day and we had to give up feliz.

It blows my mind how this organization enjoyed an unprecedented run in playoff history regardless of what sport it is and once they fall on some bad luck how quick some so-called fans jump on them. 14 years in an amazing accomplishment and may never be matched again. You can’t continuously repeat. Cox never ruined this team. Hes always made questionable moves but what manager hasn’t. I don’t understand how Bobby can be such an idiot and accomplish one of the greatest streaks in sports history. I don’t want to hear “but he only won one world series.” The fact that he lead this organization to 14 straight division titles speaks volumes.

I thought JJ would be gone. How wrong I was. That said, the Phils are in some serious trouble next year. Bravos gettin’ younger, leaner, and meaner.

Plus, the pitching in the A-T-L is top-notch, second to none. Next year will be a GOOD year! Posey may have gotten the ROY, but Heyward will hands-down be the better pro over the long haul.

May Santa bring McLouth a better, more disciplined batting stance.

Mike in VA I don’t know what the numbers are, but I think McCann did a much better job throwing out runners. At least, it looked that way on TV.

You are correct—he did do a much better job. He led the NL in runners caught with 31 (36 if you count pitcher-pick-offs), and improved his percentage of runners caught was 27% (30% with PPO), up from 22% (24% w/PPO) from last year, which was his previous career-high.

It’s still a weakness, yes—the throws still tend to be on the first-base side, though he was much more accurate in 2010 than in years past—but if he continues to show this type of improvement, he’s really going to be even more of a top-notch catcher than he already is.

I’m surprised by yours. With JJ’s physical difficulties last season, his stock on the open market had plummeted. We wouldn’t get nearly as much for him as we would have before 2010, or that we may again if he recovers form in 2011. No, I think he’s a BRAVE until he proves out with us for good or bad.

Braveheart: so you can’t see where rebelliousness, a me-first individualism, and a general anti-establishment bent could be entirely beneficial for a punk rocker or outlaw country artist, yet not at all suitable for a member of a professional sports team?

Well, alrighty then.

By the way, not saying Escobar was anti-establishment or anything like that. I didn’t know him well enough to have any idea about that. I was just taking your comment and running with it, since one profession (team sports) has absolutely no relation to the other (rebellious artist of whatever kind).

Oh, and the Braves didn’t trade Escobar because he wasn’t “American Idol” enough. They traded him because he was an unproductive hitter who also happened to say and do the wrong thing more than anyone else on the team. If he was productive like Hanley Ramirez — or Troy Tulowitzki, or any number of other shortstops who actually hit well, while displaying either good or bad attitudes — you can bet he’d not have been traded.

You can’t both stink as a player and as a teammate. Pretty simple, really. Especially when you’re not signed to a long-term contract.

But if you’re a rock ‘n’ roller or other performing artist, you can sure go do whatever the hell you want to do, onstage or off, if you’re good enough to sell albums, concert tickets, paintings, whatever, and also able to stay out of jail (more or less) and alive.
