USC takes the lead with a field goal with 6:26 left in the game. You should see the weather there. It’s probably as bad as it gets for Southern California. Rainy, foggy, cold (for there). If it gets much foggier, I won’t be able to see the field.

two things Brian.
one, stats allow you to know what happens every play not just the ones that you get to see which because of small sample size and/or emotional context of the event can bias your perception. And I am not nearly as staty as many here, I was a scout first and foremost and that had nothing to do with stats.
Two, not all ratings are based solely on stats. For instance,as I have explained severat times, the Fielding Bible’s rankings are based on voting by ten knowledgeable baseball people from all approaches, buth stats and observation.
Gonzo is an above average defender. If only he could hit as well as he plays short…. :(

Seems like Matty Diaz may be non-tendered, which puzzles me so I checked his career numbers. The guy has the equivalent of 3 full seasons in the majors (1502 ABs). If you figure his production based on 3 full seasons it comes to this:

.301 Lifetime B.A.

.350 OBP

.806 OPS

26 doubles per year

4 triples per year

14 homers per year.

Not all-star numbers but they ain’t chopped liver either. Seems like there should be trade value there. How about re-signing him and then trading him for mid-level prospect or ??

I have U2 “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” and Keith Urban “Be Here” – what to play, what to play?

I’m going with my current guilty pleasure – the new Kanye West album, My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted, Fantasy.

A very schizophrenic pop album that has me reaching for the repeat button frequently. I’m only a nominal hip-hop fan (mostly a hard rock and metal kinda guy), so I don’t think genre bias is playing into my interest in the album.

Anyway, not really recommending the new Kanye record. I don’t think it would go over with the average bloggerite. But in case anyone is feeling adventurous, I think its a pretty hypnotic album.

well Gammons, Pos and Neyer all have huge networks. The stats guys are involved with watching every play of every game. These are all pretty big name guys who have huge networks along with what they themselves see. all defensive metrics have more subjectivity involved in them that pitching or hitting stats because of the way they are gathered, so they are less exact than those other stats. I don’t care too much for UZR cause it is a long term stat. _/- is better fot short term-one or two years or less- and the FB voting looks at them from all angles.
