Tom – I just happened to be sitting closer to the computer…actually, we are both worn out tonight, and have a big day tomorrow heading off to the USC-Notre Dame game (I guess the intensity of Deathly Hallows Part 1 could have also played a part in our getting sleepy way too early) – and I have to get up early tomorrow to do an hour of Calculus before we we are off to tailgate…or maybe we’re just too wrapped up in the Boise St – Nevada game, and are ignoring everything else. in other words, we’ll be back tomorrow… :)

I usually agree with what you have to say, but I have a major disagreement with you on an earlier post. You said “for instance, there are plenty of SEC football fans that can stick out their chests, for good reason. But right now, Tennessee might want to back off just a bit.

This is certainly not the best time in Tennessee football history. However, Tennessee is one of the most storied programs in college football history. They are 9th all time in wins, 9th all time in win percentage, and 5th all time in bowl wins. Yet they are not in the top 10 in games played, indicating they have won alot over the years. Therefore, Tenn fans can brag all they want win it comes to football. Just like Kansas fans can brag about basketball (even if a bad year or two) because the school has earned that right.

Also, since the BCS started in 1998 exactly half of the National Champions have come from the SEC. Therefore, fans of the conference can brag as well. At this moment I am watching Boise and Nevada. Nevada is ranked 18th and Tennessee stinks, yet Tennessee’s defense is much better than what I am seeing from this Nevada team.

For all those wringing their hands and fretting over Chipper tromping through the wood on that repaired knee – the only walking he does on a hunt is from his estate house to the 4-wheeler, then a few steps to his stand or blind. Probably only works out that knee climbing up the steps to get to his blind. But, you never know, out at the Double Dime, they may have power hoists to get you up in the tree.

No woods in so. TX or out in KS either, I’ll bet. That pothole he stepped in was most likely out in the driveway.

His knee is probably in the most danger horsing around with his boys.

“But so many fans have to take the SEC boasting to ridiculous extremes, whereupon the chronic SEC myopia takes over and trumps all logic, defies all reason”

Look at ANY breakdown of how conferences do against each other – and you’ll see one conference consistantly on top

In the last twelve years, the SEC is 52-36 in bowl games, and something like 14-5 in BCS games.

Six championships in the last ten years.

Four in a row – and all of one of those games (OU-UF) was a contest (Alabama-Texas got close on the scoreboard for a moment but the game was never in any doubt)

It’s not myopia. It’s fact

The Pac-10 is probably the second best conference out there. But comparing it to the SEC is like comparing AAA to the Majors

DOB – tell you what. If an SEC team makes it to the BCS championship game this year, then I dont care who they play – I’ll give you ten points more than the Vegas spread on an even money bet)

What an unbelievable finish in this Boise-Nevada game. Got home from The Whigs/Futurebirds concert (great twinbill, by the way) and flipped on this game in the third quarter. Crazy action since then….

Robert, I’m honestly just surprised and a bit relieved that you’ve refocused so much of your energy and made your new cause a positive one.

Yes, After obsessing solely on the Cox-is-bad message for several years on this blog — a subject rendered pretty irrelevant since he’s no longer the manager — you’re now driving home again and again (… and again) a new message that is actually supportive of something instead of being over-the-top critical. Why, you’re like an unpaid PR assistant for the SEC. And, hey, I’ve got no issue with that. Seriously.

However, I’ll just say you’re preaching to the choir with that message to this blog’s audience. So don’t expect much in the way of heated arguments on that one. I don’t know of anyone, myself included, who’s said the SEC isn’t the toughest football conference. It is….

TennBravesFan: Man, I’d never disrespect UT’s program. Vols have a rich tradition, terrific football program. I was strictly talking about the past two years when I said you might want to back off the chest-thumping and dissing of teams out west. That’s all. Which is why I cited what Vols have done against the only two teams they’ve faced from out west in the past two years, both games in Knoxville.

DOB (or anybody), I finally after a few years of owning it on DVD watched “Walk the Line” tonight. Not sure why I hadn’t popped it in before now, but anyhow….

Pretty good flick from what I can tell. I honestly don’t know much about the MIB’s career (know the music – but have never read much on him or done my homework on his life/career), so the question is as follows: Is the movie an accurate account of events (or as accurate as a dramatized Hollywood interpretation of one’s life can be)?

Either way it was entertaining. But understand how things get exaggerated in these type of shows.

N8: It was pretty accurate from what I’ve read. That movie was incredible, though. And I think the actor has a better voice than the original.

Quite the SEC conversation last night. Boise, TCU, Oregon….they’d all do well in the SEC East this year. SEC is best overall (we know that) but until there is a playoff, these conversations are an exercise in futility.

I’m an SEC guy and graduated from Georgia. But you just can’t consistently be critical of EVERY team outside of the SEC just because they’re not in the SEC. That’s moronic. Actually, it’s the thinking of a lot of the Tennessee hillbillies that live around me. EVERYONE downgrades Boise because, well, they don’t even know where it is.

SEC might have the best athletes but there are a lot of teams outside the SEC that have good athletes and use scheme to beat you.

Good morning Braves fans. Well reportedly Jeter’s camp has reduced it’s negotiation stance down to $22 to $24 mil per for 5 years. Yes, you read that right. The Yanks are still at $45 mil for 3 years.

God it’s fun watching the Yanks publicly bludgeon this generation of Yankee fans Mickey Mantle. If this gets much uglier I’m not sure how they come back from it in the years to come. There’s much more on the line here than how he finishes out his playing career imo.The decades of Jeter coming out to throw out first pitches and the like just won’t be the same. Yum-yum.
