Hmmmm, I need to get in on this racket. Graduate student pay is wonderfully supplemented with teaching and research opportunities instead of actual currency.
November 26th, 201011:31 pm
Tom – I just happened to be sitting closer to the computer…actually, we are both worn out tonight, and have a big day tomorrow heading off to the USC-Notre Dame game (I guess the intensity of Deathly Hallows Part 1 could have also played a part in our getting sleepy way too early) – and I have to get up early tomorrow to do an hour of Calculus before we we are off to tailgate…or maybe we’re just too wrapped up in the Boise St – Nevada game, and are ignoring everything else. in other words, we’ll be back tomorrow…
Heck, during Braves’ games, nick and Mitchell make a killing. DOB pays them 2 cents per post because of all the business they drum up.
November 26th, 201011:32 pm
all I can say is that y’all need to pack some real light clothing on December 20, 2012. I hear it’s pretty warm where most of us are headed after the cataclysm.
November 26th, 201011:34 pm
It’s a relief to hear that Mitchell has a real reason for posting all that hogwash, other than near-terminal stupidity I mean.
Have fun tomorrow, VJ and cab. (VJ, I mean the game, not the Calculus.)
Well, if you want to have fun with that, go for it!
November 26th, 201011:36 pm
I hear it’s pretty warm where most of us are headed after the cataclysm.
Makes for great baseball weather,
sure he will Tom, I mean the man reads about Babylonian mathematics in his spare time….calculus is like catnip to him
maybe that should be geek-nip ?
November 26th, 201011:38 pm
It just dawned on me. Doesn’t cabravesfan HATE Notre Dame? For your sake, USC better win tomorrow.
November 26th, 201011:42 pm
geek-nip? I like it.
November 26th, 201011:43 pm
Nothing like good ole Calculus, or Cal 2, Cal 3 and differential eqns to get your blood pumping.
November 26th, 201011:45 pm
USC better win tomorrow.
the way USC has played this year, I think VJ might be in a world of trouble.he’s likely to have to move from one side of her to the other every quarter so the bruises even out….
November 26th, 201011:46 pm
I like diffy-q myself.
November 26th, 201011:48 pm
Ah, P’cola, another VJ-type, huh? Did that Babylonian math story frighten you too? (Man, I’m really asking for it now from VJ. I better keep my dictionary handy.)
November 26th, 201011:50 pm
Unfortunately all those classes are pre-requisites for Civil Engineering. And I may have read a story or two on the Mayan calendar issue.
November 26th, 201011:55 pm
No offense, P’cola. I’m just having fun with VJ. I actually have a lot of respect for intelligence, and I wish I had some.
November 27th, 201012:00 am
None taken whatsoever Tom. Your good.
His good what?
November 27th, 201012:08 am
Look at jeffrey d with the late hour. I saw your comment a short while back, about 4-something in the morning, kidding with haggard about his “Ton O’Hawke”. I didn’t even notice “Ton”, when I was reading it the next day, until your comment saying something like, “that’s a lot of hawks”. I cracked up.
November 27th, 201012:10 am
and I wish I had some.
all of us on the night crew wish you had some Tom, but we still luv ya
November 27th, 201012:11 am
I’ve only commented at 4 AM once (that I’m aware of) and that was the other night when I couldn’t sleep….sounds familar
I usually agree with what you have to say, but I have a major disagreement with you on an earlier post. You said “for instance, there are plenty of SEC football fans that can stick out their chests, for good reason. But right now, Tennessee might want to back off just a bit.
This is certainly not the best time in Tennessee football history. However, Tennessee is one of the most storied programs in college football history. They are 9th all time in wins, 9th all time in win percentage, and 5th all time in bowl wins. Yet they are not in the top 10 in games played, indicating they have won alot over the years. Therefore, Tenn fans can brag all they want win it comes to football. Just like Kansas fans can brag about basketball (even if a bad year or two) because the school has earned that right.
Also, since the BCS started in 1998 exactly half of the National Champions have come from the SEC. Therefore, fans of the conference can brag as well. At this moment I am watching Boise and Nevada. Nevada is ranked 18th and Tennessee stinks, yet Tennessee’s defense is much better than what I am seeing from this Nevada team.
November 27th, 201012:13 am
Thanks, nolie. I guess it’s better to be luved than to be smart. (At least, that’s what I’m thinking – but what do I know?)
November 27th, 201012:18 am
It had your name, and your wit, jeffrey d.
Brian Wilson (of the SF Giants) is coming up after this commercial break, on Leno. He’s very funny.
November 27th, 201012:21 am
I dunno, I could go either way on that one Tom.
Of course, ignorance is bliss, and if the love happens to be originating from a fine young lady (or 2)… well, I possibly could be persuaded to skip the brains.
November 27th, 201012:29 am
Braveschick: welcome aboard! This is a great spot to talk Braves 24/7. Good posters led by preeminent writers assoc. preisdent/blogmeister and a job-to-die-for blogmistress.
November 27th, 201012:34 am
Braveschick? Huh? When? Where did she go? I can’t find her.
November 27th, 201012:37 am
For all those wringing their hands and fretting over Chipper tromping through the wood on that repaired knee – the only walking he does on a hunt is from his estate house to the 4-wheeler, then a few steps to his stand or blind. Probably only works out that knee climbing up the steps to get to his blind. But, you never know, out at the Double Dime, they may have power hoists to get you up in the tree.
No woods in so. TX or out in KS either, I’ll bet. That pothole he stepped in was most likely out in the driveway.
His knee is probably in the most danger horsing around with his boys.
November 27th, 201012:48 am
Does Choppinmama post here from a different time zone? Or from another zone completely (like the twilight one)?
I read all of today’s comments, and I have no idea as to what she’s talking about.
November 27th, 201012:54 am
“But so many fans have to take the SEC boasting to ridiculous extremes, whereupon the chronic SEC myopia takes over and trumps all logic, defies all reason”
Look at ANY breakdown of how conferences do against each other – and you’ll see one conference consistantly on top
In the last twelve years, the SEC is 52-36 in bowl games, and something like 14-5 in BCS games.
Six championships in the last ten years.
Four in a row – and all of one of those games (OU-UF) was a contest (Alabama-Texas got close on the scoreboard for a moment but the game was never in any doubt)
It’s not myopia. It’s fact
The Pac-10 is probably the second best conference out there. But comparing it to the SEC is like comparing AAA to the Majors
DOB – tell you what. If an SEC team makes it to the BCS championship game this year, then I dont care who they play – I’ll give you ten points more than the Vegas spread on an even money bet)
November 27th, 201012:57 am
Hello every one! Like your comments on the End of the World .Comical stuff!!!!! Dodgers signed Jon Garland to a one year contract.By the way North Korea is pushing us closer to a war.
November 27th, 20101:03 am
just got back from tusca town. went there with a couple of bama fans i work with. wow.
November 27th, 20101:44 am
Boston is the favorite for Werth as of right now!
November 27th, 20101:50 am
What an unbelievable finish in this Boise-Nevada game. Got home from The Whigs/Futurebirds concert (great twinbill, by the way) and flipped on this game in the third quarter. Crazy action since then….
Whigs came onstage to the Braves’ war chant and tomahawk chop, as they always do (they’re from Athens, and huge Braves fans). They even sold a T-shirt with “Whigs” in red and blue script and a tomahawk beneath it.
November 27th, 20101:51 am
Hinske is close to a decision, and it looks like he could choose the Braves! We will know some time this week.
November 27th, 20101:58 am
Sorry Nolie! It’s time for Notre Dame to win!!!!!
November 27th, 20101:59 am
Robert, I’m honestly just surprised and a bit relieved that you’ve refocused so much of your energy and made your new cause a positive one.
Yes, After obsessing solely on the Cox-is-bad message for several years on this blog — a subject rendered pretty irrelevant since he’s no longer the manager — you’re now driving home again and again (… and again) a new message that is actually supportive of something instead of being over-the-top critical. Why, you’re like an unpaid PR assistant for the SEC. And, hey, I’ve got no issue with that. Seriously.
However, I’ll just say you’re preaching to the choir with that message to this blog’s audience. So don’t expect much in the way of heated arguments on that one. I don’t know of anyone, myself included, who’s said the SEC isn’t the toughest football conference. It is….
TennBravesFan: Man, I’d never disrespect UT’s program. Vols have a rich tradition, terrific football program. I was strictly talking about the past two years when I said you might want to back off the chest-thumping and dissing of teams out west. That’s all. Which is why I cited what Vols have done against the only two teams they’ve faced from out west in the past two years, both games in Knoxville.
November 27th, 20102:12 am
DOB: Any news on Wren adding a couple of bats to increase the bench?
November 27th, 20102:16 am
DOB – tell you what. If an SEC team makes it to the BCS championship game this year, then I dont care who they play – I’ll give you ten points more than the Vegas spread on an even money bet) — Robert
I get 10 points plus the Vegas line? I’ll take that one, for sure. You’re on, sir. We’ll mark it down now — 10 points plus the Vegas line. The final line, just before game time? (Oh, that doesn’t matter. Ten points plus the Vegas line, whenever. You just tell me when, after the matchup is determined.)
November 27th, 20102:20 am
ward, Carroll had the team this week. I was off, and didn’t talk to anyone (except Boras, who called a few days ago about this Salcedo matter). I did try calling Hinske’s agent today, to no avail. Most agents and teams are treating this like a four-day holiday.

Here’s a pic of what a bottle of Honey Brown looks like if your both interested and wondering…
November 27th, 20102:38 am
Talk to every one tomorrow! Nite….. and peace…….”Go!!! Braves!!!.”
November 27th, 20103:13 am
DOB (or anybody), I finally after a few years of owning it on DVD watched “Walk the Line” tonight. Not sure why I hadn’t popped it in before now, but anyhow….
Pretty good flick from what I can tell. I honestly don’t know much about the MIB’s career (know the music – but have never read much on him or done my homework on his life/career), so the question is as follows: Is the movie an accurate account of events (or as accurate as a dramatized Hollywood interpretation of one’s life can be)?
Either way it was entertaining. But understand how things get exaggerated in these type of shows.
An no…. of course I didn’t mean to YELL my last post. Time for bed apparently.

“Momma, I’m in the Sierra Blanca drunk tank. I know. I know, but listen, you ain’t gonna bull-ieve who they brang in”…

C MATT KENNELLY goes 0-7 in a double-header, 2 SO, .190 BA.
DH ‘THE FLAILING CUBAN’ goes 1-4 wirth a double (3) and a strike out, .343 BA.
2B JOE THURSTON goes 0-1, but has three walks,.238 BA.
CF MATT YOUNG 1-6, 1 BB, 2 SO, .380 BA.
November 27th, 20109:10 am
Maybe we can sign Jeter for 2M to be our backup SS, LOL.
November 27th, 201010:14 am
I was about to respond to Doc, then I realized it had been an hour since he posted it. Not often I get to be the third morning post from this time zone…
November 27th, 201010:17 am
N8: It was pretty accurate from what I’ve read. That movie was incredible, though. And I think the actor has a better voice than the original.
Quite the SEC conversation last night. Boise, TCU, Oregon….they’d all do well in the SEC East this year. SEC is best overall (we know that) but until there is a playoff, these conversations are an exercise in futility.
I’m an SEC guy and graduated from Georgia. But you just can’t consistently be critical of EVERY team outside of the SEC just because they’re not in the SEC. That’s moronic. Actually, it’s the thinking of a lot of the Tennessee hillbillies that live around me. EVERYONE downgrades Boise because, well, they don’t even know where it is.
SEC might have the best athletes but there are a lot of teams outside the SEC that have good athletes and use scheme to beat you.
Any renewed thoughts of Ellsbury as a Braves target? LOVE to see that one.
November 27th, 201010:24 am
What is the status of Jordan Schaffer? Is he rehabbing? Playing winter ball? I have lost track of him.
November 27th, 201010:28 am
How about a trade with Boston they are looking for a catcher maybe Ross, Mclouth(eat 3 mil), and Beachy for Ellsbury.
November 27th, 201010:44 am
Who thinks Bethancourt, Beachy, and Mclouth get the deal done for Ellsbury and a bullpen arm
November 27th, 201010:51 am
TommyP-Broken ribs twice in a season in two differentocations could indicate bone density issues and with underlying soft tissue damage undiagnosed and untreated for most of the season, added to only one season of track record. I’d be leery of trading anyone of significance for him until he’s had a successful year without injury.
We really need to eliminate the term “He’ll be a good pickup IF he can come back from injury” from any conversation of Braves’ acquistions
November 27th, 201010:52 am
And the inclusion of Nate in any deal hardly gets it done. Dude is basically untradeable with $8 mil owed to him and his .190 Batting Average.
The Boston Red Sox
November 27th, 201010:55 am
Good morning Braves fans. Well reportedly Jeter’s camp has reduced it’s negotiation stance down to $22 to $24 mil per for 5 years. Yes, you read that right. The Yanks are still at $45 mil for 3 years.
God it’s fun watching the Yanks publicly bludgeon this generation of Yankee fans Mickey Mantle. If this gets much uglier I’m not sure how they come back from it in the years to come. There’s much more on the line here than how he finishes out his playing career imo.The decades of Jeter coming out to throw out first pitches and the like just won’t be the same. Yum-yum.
November 27th, 201010:58 am
Anders- Yeah, isn’t it interesting seeing the Yankees and Red Sox manufacturing reasons not to pay inflated prices for their players. Unlike the Mets who need no invention.
November 27th, 201011:01 am
Ah Lew – nice to see you in the full holiday spirit already.
November 27th, 201011:02 am
Anders- Fa La La La La.
November 27th, 201011:08 am
Doc – I didn’t really have a meaningful comment – some lame attempt at humor that I no longer remember…
November 27th, 201011:10 am
Holiday Spirit? I was watching a certain 24 Hour News station yesterday and they were covering Holiday shopping. Part of the conversation went something like this “Well Suxy Sunshine, how is the shopping going at the Mall toady?” Well, Jane, some people bought a lot, some bought a little less and some bought nothing at all.”
Such insight and analysis. The coming 2012 Apocaplyspse can’t get here soon enough. The Idiocracy has arrived.

What is the status of Jordan Schaffer? Is he rehabbing? Playing winter ball? I have lost track of him.
Jordan is on the 40 man roster, he will be in ST competing for 4th of job. Hopefully he tears it up in ST and is ready @AAA if Nate has cannot remember how to play baseball.
November 27th, 201011:18 am
I bet you “Suxy” is quite popular with the fellas.
November 27th, 201011:20 am
Wide Right: Schafer was just cleared to begin hitting again, says the wrist finally feels pain-free for first time in long time.
November 27th, 201011:23 am
Tom-I’m an artist, not a stenographer. Never claimed to be able to type worth a damn (comes from learning to type on a manual typewriter – something most of y’all have only seen in a museum). But, maybe it was Freudian, right?
November 27th, 201011:28 am
We’re getting some snow out there this morning. Don’t know if there will be much accumulation, but ’tis the season – to pay the snow plow Dude $30 a pop.
November 27th, 201011:29 am
November 27th, 201011:33 am
Freudian or not, Lew, I’d like to meet her.
November 27th, 201011:42 am
Tom – Why do I get the distinct feeling you don’t care that she’s mentally challenged?
November 27th, 201011:47 am
Stop it will ya Lew? I’m already in love.
Figures I was at the grocery and Tom beat me to the punch on the aptonymical Ms. Sunshine…
Rob from SC
November 27th, 201011:49 am
In your opinion, do the Braves still view Schafer to be in their long term plans. Do they believe all his struggles are because of the wrist. What iss your take?
November 27th, 201011:51 am
VJ and Tom here at such an outrageous hour? Someone mess with the clocks on the left coast or something? Metaphysical Daylight Savings Time?
November 27th, 201011:52 am
Rob- I’ll bet they’re going to wait and see if it was the wrist or not before they decide what their long term Schaferian plans are.
November 27th, 201011:56 am
Lew – I was the third poster after “normal” morning hours had kicked in, and I’m three hours behind most people…
November 27th, 201012:00 pm
Rob from SC: I don’t think they can or are counting on Schafer like they once did, but at the same time they are still hopeful he can develop this season. It would make things a lot easier next year when they’re trying to fill the CF spot.
VJ-Time warp? Californian Worm Hole? Too much coffee?
That’s what happens when you go to bed at 8 o’clock on a Friday night.
November 27th, 201012:04 pm
Damn – I’m an Old Dude and stay up later than that.
Too much medical pot earlier in the day?
November 27th, 201012:06 pm
I think cabravesfan wears him down, Lew.
November 27th, 201012:07 pm
MIBravesFan, our teams have met. Good luck, today. Although, it would really be luck if my team won.
November 27th, 201012:10 pm
Need I remind yo that before VJ moved out here I was typically on the blog until midnight PST or later! Of course, when you get up at 6 am on a Saturday, you tend to go to bed earlier then normal
Tom-I thought of that, but was being diplomatic.
It’s been fun y’all, but I have to go paint and earn some Christmass $$$$$$$$$. Just remember – support your local artist and buy artwork for those hard to buy for friends and family members.
November 27th, 201012:11 pm
By the way, what is Tom doing here during daylight hours???
November 27th, 201012:14 pm
Completely agree with this, never bought into all closer hype, especially when many teams lose games in 8th inning, saving the mighty closers for 9th.
November 27th, 201012:15 pm
It’s too cold and windy to do anything outdoors, cab. So I figured I’d watch my team get beat by Michigan State.
Oh and stop giving me serious answers to my stupid remarks, will ya?
November 27th, 201012:30 pm
Yeah, it’s too cold here to be outside also, but that’s not going to stop me from going to the USC game
And I felt the need to point out that it was not me makes VJ go to bed so early!
November 27th, 201012:32 pm
Oh you’re being modest now, cabravesfan.
When do you leave for the game?
I hope they can beat Sparty on senior day/blood drive week. I know it is going to be tough, but I always think we are capable of beating them.
November 27th, 201012:33 pm
We’re going about 11:30- gotta drop the dog off before getting to my brother’s house…
November 27th, 201012:41 pm
I wish you luck, today, cabravesfan. However, if … (that other team) should win, promise me you won’t beat up my buddy too badly, OK?
November 27th, 201012:42 pm
No beating up…but it is a loooong cold walk home from South Central
November 27th, 201012:43 pm
and that’s about all I can handle of Michigan/Ohio State…time to see if anything else is on…
November 27th, 201012:44 pm
My guys are on the deuce
November 27th, 201012:47 pm
Yeah I know but are they actually watchable today?
November 27th, 201012:48 pm
Oy..I’m going to go with “no” on that… sorry!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
