5) Mora/Diory (if no money left)
Just off the top of my head…and I would try to get Rauch for the ‘pen…he would be my #1 priority
November 24th, 20101:38 pm
Nice to see a friendly blogger…its been awhile…
yeah, well, maybe that explains why Lucas didn’t get a shot…
Although the Royals let Callaspo kick the ball around for quite awhile before they traded him.
November 24th, 20101:46 pm
DAP,ye of little faith. Kimbrel is going to be super this year if given the chance. Of course,I will deny this if he flops.
November 24th, 20101:47 pm
I had to check the time…Tom on the blog in the afternoon?
November 24th, 20101:48 pm
For a little bit, cabravesfan. Long enough to say good mornin’ to y’all.
November 24th, 20101:49 pm
Nope, never happened
Hey girl, hows the weather out there? We’re getting our first bad weather of the winter…freezing rain all day.
CB ye of little faith. Kimbrel is going to be super this year if given the chance. Of course,I will deny this if he flops.
haha…yeah i really do think he is going to be good. i believe he will be the next big-name closer to emerge. but, i think stability gives a bullpen the chance to be great. just having a guy like rauch out there does alot. i really think a solid bullpen veteran is very important. dont forget we lost two huge bullpen pieces, and we cant expect a few rookies to just move into those spots seamlessly without noticing the difference.
November 24th, 20101:50 pm
CB, let me add, im not worried about kimbrel and venters filling in for wagner and saito as much as im worried about the guys taking kimbrel and venters spot behind them in the bullpen. know what i mean?
November 24th, 20101:51 pm
Good morning, Tom O – I’m still in shock that you actually posted a lineup the other night, and then tried to conduct a linear conversation with ward…
November 24th, 20101:52 pm
Isn’t it amazing that Chipper was worried about exercising in ST now that Fredi is new manager ? Now I see what was meant by the “players manager” label Bobby Cox got. So you can train and exercise on your own under Cox (and now Fredi). No wonder so many Braves are injured and tired at the end of the season. Its called a workout regimen because if managers don’t make some players do it they get out of shape. I recall Andruw gaining 40 lbs his last year as a Brave. Braves don’t need a drill sergeant as a manager but one the let’s players exercise at their leisure is bad. Just look at Bobby Cox, his fat gut tells you he never believed in exercise…
Its nice that Chipper is hunting this off season risking injury to his already injury-prone body. Nice of him to think about the Braves first… Not.
November 24th, 20101:56 pm
I’m still in shock that you actually posted a lineup the other night, and then tried to conduct a linear conversation with ward…
Hi, VJ. I think the your key word there was tried. Who knew?
November 24th, 20101:58 pm
why would you ask a question and then answer it yourself?
November 24th, 20102:00 pm
I’d rather have an outfield of just Prado and Heyward alone if McOut HAS to be the CF. I cringe EVERY TIME I see McOut come up to bat. Its gonna be a pop up or strike out 99% of the time. What a waste of money and the CF position by the Braves…
November 24th, 20102:04 pm
We’re getting our first bad weather of the winter…freezing rain all day
Are you still in Illinois, P-Town? We’re supposed to get that good stuff tomorrow sometime. Should be just dandy for all the people travelling for the holiday.
November 24th, 20102:05 pm
Reading the article about Ohio state’s athletic director. I was somewhat amazed that their ath. dept has a budget of 120 million. Id like to see the figures comparing the buckeyes revenue to the Braves.
Im aware their budget covers all sports. But still…….
November 24th, 20102:06 pm
Yeah, still smack dab in the middle of IL…(unfortunately)
Worst part is that the weather picked the night I am going to a college bball game and then out for Blackout Wednesday…(yeah, I still try to claim youth every once in awhile )
November 24th, 20102:09 pm
im not worried about kimbrel and venters filling in for wagner and saito as much as im worried about the guys taking kimbrel and venters spot behind them in the bullpen
What’s wrong with O’Flaherty and Moylan? That’s about as situational as you can get in the 6th or 7th. If that’s your concern, then you don’t need a guy such as Rauch; you just need some middle relief fodder for low-leverage.
Ohio State is also getting millions per year from alumni/boosters
November 24th, 20102:10 pm
Its amazing what people will risk to just shoot a deer. Bambi’s trying to eat some grass and you sneak up on him with a high powered rifle that flips him twice when you hit him at 20 yards… That’s real macho right there… About like me squashing an ant with my boot… That’s not hunting. Hunting is supposed to be challenging.
I talk to myself a lot – I can’t believe that other guy is so stupid.
November 24th, 20102:11 pm
What city are you in? I lived in Decatur for 2 years in the mid 90’s. Coldest place I’ve ever been in the winter!
November 24th, 20102:12 pm
That’s not hunting. Hunting is supposed to be challenging.
That’s getting awfully close to both politics AND religion, son. Best to let that dog lie.
November 24th, 20102:13 pm
I wouldn’t exactly call 20 yds “sneaking up” on someone…
Also, you should be where I am at…the population is overrun with deer…I am happy for the hunters around here…because the more they don’t kill, the higher rate there is exponentially of me hitting one on the highway and either ruining my vehicle, getting myself hurt, or both…
True jeffrey d….but I believe the article said their budget was the highest one of all college’s.
Im sure Liberty media can match that amount no problem,
November 24th, 20102:15 pm
Yeah, I saw that one……… pretty bad when you’ve got to start your own argument with yourself on the blog!
DS1: Yes, even though I am Da Sensitive One, I still think that “Wayne in Utah” guy is a disruption to the blog!”
WiU: Now there you go sensitive dude, trying to hurt my poor wittle feelings again!
November 24th, 20102:17 pm
So a deer just walking in the woods (with no self-defense other than running) up against a high powered rifle is fair ? Now killing a deer with a bowie knife by hand would be fair…
Of course, I’m sure Turner Field makes a killing in beer sales too. Everytime I go to the game, it seems like everybody has a beer….and they cost something ridiculous like $7 each too
November 24th, 20102:18 pm
I think deer should be allowed to carry a .38 caliber handgun. Then it would be sporting, huh?
I thought rednecks loved hunting
November 24th, 20102:19 pm
Maybe dye its fur camo
scoots What’s wrong with O’Flaherty and Moylan?
nothing, but who takes their place? everyone moves up a slot, and there is still a hole there. id rather leave moylan and o’flarety where they were, and address the hole in the middle of the bullpen pecking order. i think that hole needs to be filled with a veteran who can close if we need him to, because the kids arent a guarantee.
November 24th, 20102:21 pm
About 3 weeks back, I am minding my own business, driving down Main Street in Lander, Wyoming when I came up behind 2 fairly large deer trotting down the turn lane.
But then they make a RIGHT hand turn out of the center lane. That DEFINITELY should have gotten them both a traffic violation!
I’m being the Devil’s advocate here… DS1, maybe hunting deer should be outlawed since deer can’t hold & shoot .38’s ?
redneck rick So a deer just walking in the woods (with no self-defense other than running) up against a high powered rifle is fair ?
yes it is. its not my fault that deer isnt smart enough to build a rifle, or have thumbs.
November 24th, 20102:22 pm
DS1, if roads weren’t built in the deer’s haqbitat then they’d be walking in the woods not your paved road…
November 24th, 20102:23 pm
its not my fault that deer isnt smart enough to build a rifle
I’d say about 98% of hunters aren’t smart enough to build a rifle
Holy cow…is the the Braves blog or PETA?
These deer have absolutely NO respect for the rule of the law!
The same creator that designed you (humans) DAP also designed the deer.
November 24th, 20102:25 pm
Guys I cant see Marteen in left field.
November 24th, 20102:26 pm
All I’m saying is stop calling it “hunting”. Change it to “unfair ambushing”. Lol.
November 24th, 20102:27 pm
I have killed 2-3 deer in my day, and I don’t own a gun. (didn’t stick around to take a pulse on the third one!)
A 1985 S-10 Blazer can be lethal!
November 24th, 20102:28 pm
Just wait till the spring. You’ll see him then!
So I’m out watering my lawn (akin to the deer eating grass) and you ride by and shoot me in the back with a 30/30 and that’s hunting ?
November 24th, 20102:29 pm
isnt “redneck” kind of a racist term? should that be offensive to white people?
November 24th, 20102:31 pm
Just kidding everyone. I’ve studied wildlife conservation and have a college degree. Deer populations have to be managed through hunting. But I’m still angry that Chipper’s hunting and stepping in holes with next season at stake…
November 24th, 20102:33 pm
DAP its like with black folks, you can call yourself and people a derogatory name but a different race can’t. It makes sense doesn’t it ?
Deer kill more people in the United States every year than handguns. It’s a fact, look it up.
I, for one, support the armies of hunters who don their orange jumpsuits every year and protect us from these antlered menaces. Have you ever lost a loved one to a deer attack? I didn’t think so. You’d be singing a different tune if you had. Sniff… miss you dad.
November 24th, 20102:34 pm
right on, rick. he also told me i could kill ‘em and eat ‘em.
November 24th, 20102:35 pm
If you’re going to go that route, that Creator put man over all animals…..including deer
Anyway, I can’t believe I’m getting dragged into this.
So how’s Mather looking??
November 24th, 20102:36 pm
But not over the games that reindeers play. Rudolph rules that.
November 24th, 20102:37 pm
I said I was being the Devil’s advocate to start with…
Sorry, but it’s hard to take someone seriously when they’re doing that. Whether they’re calling each other “rednecks” or n-words….
November 24th, 20102:38 pm
jeffery I’d say about 98% of hunters aren’t smart enough to build a rifle
i think its obvious that im talking about humans in general compared to deer in general.
DS1 A 1985 S-10 Blazer can be lethal!
thats a large caliber.
He also designed steaks… and pork chops… and chicken fingers… and hamburgers… and hot wings… etc.
But Simba is the king of the jungle even if a man is in the jungle.
November 24th, 20102:39 pm
I guess deer ramming SUV’s is kinda some payback from the deer ?
And it was good
November 24th, 20102:40 pm
Deer kill more people in the United States every year than handguns. It’s a fact, look it up. Murph
I’m calling BS here.
November 24th, 20102:41 pm
Carroll, your hair is receding and you need to shave that stubble off your chin based on the picture on your blog…
November 24th, 20102:42 pm
I caught an eighty-pound shark off of Montauk. It’s in the Hamptons. My dad’s got a 42-foot Bayliner. Sniped it with a rifle from the crow’s nest.
Deer do kill more people yearly than butterflys do though…
November 24th, 20102:44 pm
Holy cow! I was either going to brush my teeth, or take a shower. If I took the shower first, I may have burned my house down!
While brushing, I walk around. On this particular journey, I noticed smoke coming off my bed, as if someone left a cigarette in an ashtray. I immediately knew this was a problem because I’m the only one here, and I don’t smoke.
Sometimes I shave with an electric razor, and when I do I use a 2X magnifying mirror. Usually I put it back when I’m finished. This time I just threw it on the bed because I may use it after. It was facing the sun coming through the windows perfectly, and it threw a reflection right in front of it on the bed. That was enough to get the comforter smoking, and leave a burn mark after I put it out.
I saw this episode of “Modern Family” last year around xmas. One of the kids was blamed for smoking in the house because there was a burn mark on the couch. Come to find out, it was caused by the sun’s rays getting magnified by one of the ornaments on the tree. I thought, “yeah, right!”.
I recently changed my thinking.
November 24th, 20102:45 pm
I thought you were Batman at first read…
Geeeze….glad everything’s okay Tom. Funny how something so simple/(seemingly) harmless could potentially cause a disaster
November 24th, 20102:46 pm
Carroll, you need one of those La-Don comb-overs or a short rug…
November 24th, 20102:48 pm
jeffry d I caught an eighty-pound shark off of Montauk.
i learned at the georgia aquarium that more people are killed by kites every year than by sharks. also, toasters and chairs kill more people than sharks.
that is not a joke. well, i mean it is kinda funny, but its for real…
80 lb shark is small. Tigers & Hammerheads get up to 1,500 lbs.
November 24th, 20102:50 pm
I read where cigarettes kill more people than serial killers do per year ?
Yikes…I make an Office reference and everybody gets all technical
November 24th, 20102:51 pm
You ain’t just a kiddin’ jeffrey d. I wouldn’t have thought that was possible. It shook me up. I have to leave now, but I’m afraid to leave the house!
I read that cereal kills more people than kites
November 24th, 20102:52 pm
Bat, it’s not conjecture, it’s fact. Taken from http://www.fbi.gov, in 2008 there were 9484 deaths caused by firearms in the United States, compared to 12892 people killed by deer.
In your studies, have you found how many houses get burned down from shaving mirrors?
November 24th, 20102:53 pm
Maximum Overdrive baby !
November 24th, 20102:54 pm
I’m not buying that 13,000 people were killed by deer in 2008. They must have been wielding .38’s…
As they say Tom, truth is stranger than fiction.
Not hunting…merely tempting.
November 24th, 20102:55 pm
Taken from http://www.statefarm.com , in a year, 957 homes are destroyed from shaving mirror-related burns
November 24th, 20102:57 pm
That number might be a little bit off, Rick, but it’s close. Deer kill statistics are hard to track because the nature of the crime (and yes, it is a crime) leads people to not report it to authorities. Fear of retaliation, difficulty in getting a conviction, etc all lead to deer running free every day. It’s one of the issues that gets swept under the rug.
November 24th, 20102:59 pm
Fear of retaliation, difficulty in getting a conviction, etc all lead to deer running free every day.
Yeah, I hear that those Deer defense lawyers are a talented bunch.
November 24th, 20103:00 pm
I’ve received hate mail from pro-deer groups, even death threats, but I continue to speak out against these cuddly murderers. I will not stop until there is justice. We shouldn’t have to sit locked in our homes, worrying about the clickity-clack of hooves on our driveways… it has to stop.
So deer are like the mob
November 24th, 20103:01 pm
More Americans are killed by deer each year than by any other large American mammal, including bears, cougars and wolves. A study for the insurance industry estimated that deer kill 150 people a year in car crashes nationwide and cause $1 billion in damages.
Nicholas D. Kristof, “For Environmental Balance, Pick Up a Rifle,” New York Times, December 4, 2005.
Still not buying it Murph
November 24th, 20103:02 pm
Did you guys know that all the controversy regarding the TSA lately is just a smoke screen meant to take the focus off all the deer hunters that disappear this time of the year? The government doesn’t want you to know… they don’t want you to ask questions…
Watch your backs out there fellas. The deer are watching you. They’re always watching you.
November 24th, 20103:03 pm
Bat, those statistics are from 2005, before the uprising. I shouldn’t be talking about it on here. You never know who is reading this.
Dang you, jeffrey d, you made me look!
Well, I put the mirror back in it’s leather cover. Then I put it in a closet in a room on the north side of the house and shut both doors (taking no chances).
I’m outa here. If I don’t get back later, everyone enjoy your holiday.
November 24th, 20103:04 pm
The deer in Florida are more like dogs.
I believe you, Murph
November 24th, 20103:05 pm
Oh, and those stats are only car crash related. They don’t count the number of Americans who are stomped to death, gored to death, pushed off of cliffs, kicked in the head, eaten alive, etc by deer.
whats up buddies?
November 24th, 20103:06 pm
The last time I looked at this blog, it was the Braves blog. Since when did it become the Deer blog?
Hi! Sorry I’m so slow…of course I’m super busy today It’s been freezing here! I don’t like the cold- this is why I live in Southern California.
Bushy Tom (if you are still around)-
Now you have a real reason to not shave
November 24th, 20103:07 pm
They show no remorse. No soul. Makes me shudder at the cold brutality of it all..
I see a lot has been talked about since I went on my lunch break…mainly, nothing that means anything whatsoever…
Oh…but if someone wants to know what the stereotype map is….here goes (got this one from my cousin…
The Midwest and Southeast are cut into thirds…
The Northern part folks are considered hicks
The Central folks down to the Tennessee area are considered hillbillies
The Southern folks are called rednecks
That concludes my Geography lesson for the day
November 24th, 20103:08 pm
Hello: I just read the Brewers are interested in Hinski.
Since when did it become the Deer blog?
’bout an hour ago? Give or take?
Oh…and just so I can keep up, some want deer to carry .38’s and we should only be able to kill them with a hunting knife?
Ok….so what about when they projectile themselves out in front of my car?!
At that point, should I be able to drive a tank?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
