Breath deep, the gathering gloom. Watch lights fade from every room. Pensitive people sit back and lament, another days useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one; lonely men cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son; senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night; removes the colours from our site. Red is gray, and yellow white; but we decide which is right, and which is an illusion!
And Swisher being a switch hitter, who hits evenly with both sides of the plate would certainly benefit the Braves. Defensively he is okay, playing LF should be no problem. His contract 11:$9M,
12:$10.25M club option ($1M buyout) for the kind of production he provides I’d say he is a bargain.
What would the NYY ask in return, well thats the big question, maybe Aroldys Vizacaino and tw mid-level prospects.
Anybody else think that a good contingency starter beyond our top 6 guys might be Kenshin Kawakami?
What would it hurt the Braves to take him to Spring Training and give him a full shot to redeem himself. He’s not a bad pitcher. Just darned unlucky in many ways.
If he fell on his face, then the only place he could go would be home (to the J@p@nese league); which is realistically the only place we can send him right now anyway.
If he actually excelled, we’d have a nice problem on our hands. Pitch him or deal him to actually get something of value in return.

What the heck happened to my uranium stocks today!! I thought I might be able to retire in another dozen years, but maybe not now………
I thought that too until the crash of 2001. You need about 3.0 million taxes paid to be independent wealthy these days.
What an offseason this is shaping up to be. (emphasis on “off”) Every message board of every team is discussing the “upside” of the broken down or “bounce back” of the deflated.
The Braves have a history of sticking a body in left field to support the offense – Kelly Johnson, Chipper Jones – Ryan Klesko. Any idea of putting Canizares at 1B and Freddie Freeman in Left?
Anyone will look good as our batting coach, after Pendleton. That is a bigger move than most realize. He is a great guy, was a strong player and has been a disaster as the batting coach. I feared that they would make him manager. The manager and coaching changes will prove significant. I hope Chipper doesn’t become a Farve. Retire while you still have great respect.
Jason Heyward isn’t even listed as a candidate for NL Silver Slugger. He has better stats than a few guys they did list. Like—Carlos Beltran?Really?? Aye-yi-yi…
Beltran was a great talent at one time, probably better than Crawford but that long expensive contract has bitten the Mets the last two years in a row. Teams never seen to learn though, I think someone will offer Crawford the same type of contract and talk themselves into believing that this time it will work out.

That independent league outfielder we acquired this past july was one KEENAN WILEY. Assigned to high rookie DANVILLE he performed reasonably well through the end of July and August. Hall of Famer Peter Gammons was a guest on the premiere of Red Sox Hot Stove Live on Tuesday and said that he’s heard that the Brewers may shop outfielder/third baseman Ryan Braun and that the Red Sox would likely be very interested.
Gammons isn’t right much more often than MLBTradeRumors.com over the years, is he?
also said that the Sox are firmly convinced that Salty can be their starting catcher, perhaps with some mentoring from Veritek returns. Good for Salty, hope it works.
Acquire Jorge Cantu he can play 1b/3b and LF (I think Chipper and Freeman are going to need some bench time)
Sign Vlad Gurrero for 2 yr deal to platoon with Hinske
That leaves Mclouth and Infante to platoon in center (along with Infante’s other responsibilities)
Hey, why not go for Mark Reynolds? He is coming off a down year, but he plays good defense at third and still hits for a ton of power, which is what the Braves’ line up badly needs. He may strike out 200 times, but if he manages to hit .250/.350/.500, I’m sure the Braves would gladly take that!
but if he manages to hit .250/.350/.500, I’m sure the Braves would gladly take that Ryan
I’m sure they would too, but I really doubt he would come all that close to those numbers playing half his games in the Ted.
My real objection personally is that I hate watching hitters who can’t hit 240. His career numbers away from the great hitting park in ‘zona are 235/323/461 with about 35% of his plate appearances being Ks. Not my idea of a fun guy to watch no matter how many homers he accidentally runs his bat into. That’s just me though, I’m sure there are others here who like him.
If I were Boston and added an outfielder there would be other spare OFers that I would try to trade B4 Ells, MIBF. But as you say, it’s too early to get a read, but like scoots said the other day, the way they worded their claim that they will keep him sounded like there was little wiggle room there. He’s still cheap and would make a great 4th OFer and if they add a big contract they might prefer to trade off Cameron or another who costs more than Ells. Just speculatin’.
Yeah Brian, but i gotta admit that one post kinda got to me. I love sarcasm and pokin’ fun, but that one was real stiff and no indication at all that I could see that you were kidding around. Be a little more gentle to an pld geezer, huh?
The Pacers hit 20 consecutive field goals in the third quarter against Denver. Twenty! They went 20-for-21 in the quarter, missed the last shot they took….
Only a few more episodes of Sons of Anarchy before another great season is over. How ’bout that scene tonight in the loft, with the traitor? Nasty stuff….
yeah: schafer probably will hit at least hit 15 homers. there’s a chance i think he could hit at least 20 to 25 if healthy, but i’ll take 15 homers thats for sure. Go!!! Braves!!!
yeah your right, but if schafer could bounce back by all star break. he would be a great help, but thats a big if?what we need is an out fielder with speed. what about corey pattreson for left field, he is a free agent? he’s from baltimore, and he can steal around 30 bases. Go!!!! Braves!!!!
Did anybody notice that my Jazz kicked some dream team hiny tonight! Paul Milsap was a stud all over the court. Hit 3 consecutive 3’s at the end of regulation, his only 3’s shot all season.
keylargo
Yes, I think if Ryan Freel could be talked out of retirements, all would be well in Braves land! And if you don’t believe me, ask Farney.
i agree: wren makes you think he going to get a good player, and then he breakes your heart. like getting melky c. or a player like that. wren never backs up what he’s going to do.i’ll believe him when i see him stand by his words. Go!!! Braves!!!
Ells-CF
Prado-3B
Lee/Jones-1B
Big Mac-C
Infante-2B
Heyward-RF
Gonz-SS
Diaz-LF
What a versitle lineup! Plus with a fresh new hitting coach, there could be great years instore for gonz and mac not to mention rebound years for chipper and lee… Chipper helps at third but mainly
platoons at first. It’s a corner infeild position and with another aging vet, we can always have the
best of both worlds. I’ve got goose bumps!

Hall of Famer Peter Gammons was a guest on the premiere of Red Sox Hot Stove Live on Tuesday and said that he’s heard that the Brewers may shop outfielder/third baseman Ryan Braun and that the Red Sox would likely be very interested.

I’m starting to like this Ellsbury idea (speaking of the Red Sox). What are the chances of that happening?

Gammons isn’t right much more often than MLBTradeRumors.com over the years, is he?
also said that the Sox are firmly convinced that Salty can be their starting catcher, perhaps with some mentoring from Veritek returns. Good for Salty, hope it works.

They say they are not gonna trade him MIBF, but who knows how much of that is true and how much is posturing?

Like a lot of things, I think it is prolly getting more talk here than reality would indicate it should, but who knows?

My plan would be
Acquire Jorge Cantu he can play 1b/3b and LF (I think Chipper and Freeman are going to need some bench time)
Sign Vlad Gurrero for 2 yr deal to platoon with Hinske
That leaves Mclouth and Infante to platoon in center (along with Infante’s other responsibilities)
or just trade for Rasmus

No one knows at this point. If they get Werth, that may change.

DOB: Great post. Your blog is just about the best baseball one out there. No, it IS the best one out there.
No baseball comments for once. How are you liking The Walking Dead on AMC? Badass in my opinion. (Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.)

yeah your right, but if schafer could bounce back by all star break. he would be a great help, but thats a big if?what we need is an out fielder with speed. what about corey pattreson for left field, he is a free agent? he’s from baltimore, and he can steal around 30 bases. Go!!!! Braves!!!!

Did anybody notice that my Jazz kicked some dream team hiny tonight! Paul Milsap was a stud all over the court. Hit 3 consecutive 3’s at the end of regulation, his only 3’s shot all season.

Yes, I think if Ryan Freel could be talked out of retirements, all would be well in Braves land! And if you don’t believe me, ask Farney.

It’s a lot of fun to speculate and discuss certain players, but in the end, who knows what evil lurks in the heart of Frank Wren!!
