What the Hell happened with Ellie anyway? She was elected Mayberry City Councilwoman, then poof, she was gone. I would imagine she slipped into an Andy Griffith alternate universe, was Elected Prez, and gave the finger to Mayberry..
The only actor/actress on the face of the earth worse than the Helen Crump gal, is Adam West. Kinda funny that he was tee’d-off at not being considered for the first SERIOUS Batman movie.
Ellie update from Wikipedia:
After twelve appearances in the first season, Ellie disappeared with no explanation offered the audience. Behind the scenes, Donahue decided she and Griffith lacked the chemistry to make their on-screen romantic relationship credible and she decided to leave. Griffith later admitted that it was his own fault because he had a hard time showing affection on-screen, and as a result, the relationship didn’t appear real or believable.
“……….I mean, what do some of you think they’re going to ask for from the Braves in return for that kind of young player, Jordan Schafer and Mike Dunn?…………..”
That would be nice. CARDS won’t get any trade HR’s from us I don’t think.
BTW, what’s your take on JORDAN’s future in B-ball. I mean what have you heard about his abilities next year?
Just got my season tix for the SPIDERS and see that W&M is going to be the second home game of the3 season. We’ll have to post up after the game. Can’t wait to see the RICHMOND freshman center – 6′6″ 270 and very athletic I understand. We’ll see whether he’s a PAUL BUNYON clone or not…………..lumber………..jack.
“From Elias: 3 players drove in game-winners in 2 World Series clinchers: Lou Gehrig (1928 and 1936), Joe DiMaggio (1939 and 1949) and Yogi Berra (1950 and 1956).”
If this score holds up, then Edgar joins them. (1997 Game 7.)
Dang! Aint life strange? Edgar a WS hero again. Cody Ross 5 Hr in the playoffs…. Just like Skip used to say ,”If you bet on baseball, you’ve got to be nutts!”
ESPN Stats: “If the Giants win it would mean Edgar Renteria went 13 seasons between WS titles, tied for the 3rd-most seasons between WS titles in MLB history. Only Babe Adams (16) and Dolf Luque (14) have gone longer.”
You gotta love Edgar, one of the smartest, most savvy baseball players out there. He knows what to do in every situation. Maybe not the defensive force he once was—but still good enought to push Uribe to third and start in the World Series.
Ya know, since the all-star break, the Braves got real sloppy on defense. It continued into the playoffs against the Giants. They lost 3 one-run ballgames with shoddy fielding.
With the Giants about to be crowned World Series Champions, do you ever wonder about where the Braves would have been with a little tighter defense? We’d probably be hoping that Wren didn’t make a move in the off-season.
Very plausible. He has 10 K’s through 8 innings. According to ESPN Stats, the only pitchers with 10+ K in a World Series clincher are: Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Hal Newhouser and Orval Overall.
Attention Braves Fans! If you’ve been watching the WS game you saw something earlier that makes Bochy one of the better managers in the game.
Game tied 0-0 and Huff at bat. Huff, the much of the time cleanup hitter, but today hitting lower in the order. He BUNTED! Didn’t matter that he is considered a power hitter or RBI guy, the situation called for the runners to be moved up and he bunted!
Folks thats something you don’t see enough of. That’s something that you never saw in Atlanta.
Congrats to Bochy and his view that you have to play the situation rather than who is hitting. Can you just imagine Chipper bunting in that situation? No you can’t.
You can put it in the bank for next year that it could have been the Braves. Wagner getting hurt cost us one game and the defense derailed. It could have been, but not crying just saying a positive for next year.
Plus: Dodger fans will wallow is self pity and misery for an entire off season
Minus: Listening to an entire off season of “experts” comparing Buster Posey to Johnny Bench (He’s played one season, fellas, maybe you should hold off a bit on the Hall speeches just now…)
- a tough, gritty, tooth-and-nail World Series that went 6 or 7 games (preferably 7).
- the Rangers to win because of the ex-Braves they’ve got (Frenchy, Andrus, and Feliz), and the fact that a Rangers victory would, however minimally, reflect well on the Braves’ system
- the Giants to win because a) they’re the NL team, and b) there’s definitely something to be said for getting beat by the eventual champion
So I’m 1-for-3 there. Congrats to the Giants! Still, I’m not at all convinced that they’re the best team in the NL, or that the Rangers were the best team in the AL — it was more a matter of two teams that got hot at the right time.
Injuries are part of the game and everybody has them. That said, would Giants be here tonight if Braves hadn’t lost Prado, Chipper, O’Flaherty, Wagner, Jurrjens, Medlen, Saito…?
But they are World Series champs, and that’s all that counts.
We matched up with these guys-the world series champs. A few tweaks and good health, no reason this cant be us next year. Congrat to the Giants! NL baby!
You don’t have to say “Thank You” with words, Giants—RBI Doubles and CS speak louder. Toss in more Braves wins than losses, and we’re pretty much covered.
I would recommend squeezing some juice in then dropping the slice into the bottle…kinda like what you would do with a lime and Pacifico (please tell me you’ve had Pacifico…)
Andruw Jones is a free agent this winter and the Atlanta Braves need outfield help. But that might be where the dots disconnect, as GM Frank Wren needs help in center field first and foremost, and Jones’ play in center in 2010 was abysmal, according to Ultimate Zone Rating.
Jones is just 33 but has clearly declined on the defensive side, and despite an early-season power surge doesn’t appear to be an everyday player anymore.
There is the thought, however, that a return to the National League could help his offensive output, but he’d most likely have to play in an outfield corner, where he played 74 games in 2010.
The Braves can look to retain Rick Ankiel, also a free agent, or consider Scott Podsednik, Jim Edmonds, Jody Gerut or Corey Patterson, or hope Nate McLouth regains the form that convinced the club he was worth trading for in the first place.
McLouth is guaranteed $6.5 million in 2011
This post does nothing to get me excited. Luckily, the rumor mill has been sorry of late, especially in baseball
I would recommend squeezing some juice in then dropping the slice into the bottle…kinda like what you would do with a lime and Pacifico (please tell me you’ve had Pacifico…)
anyways, what you do is sort of squeeze the orange slice down into the bottle, plug the top with your thumb, and turn the bottle upside down to get the orange to the bottom of the bottle (or you can just splash a little orange juice from a carton into the bottle if that is easier )
