not saying he will be our number 3 hitter, but you never know. Lots of players have come out of nowhere from this unknown leagues and become good players in the bigs. HARD WORK is all it takes…………you never know.
Torbert will be 28 yrs old starting next season, he’s probably already made his biggest advances. He’s already been dumped by the Astros & Tigers. He had a shot in AAA but only hit 1 hr with a 633 ops. He’s already had 4 yrs in the minors with a total of 14 hrs & then back to independent ball for the past 3 years now.
He is exactly what the Braves signed him for—–AA contract!!!
im still a fan of edgar renteria. its good to see him playing well on a big stage for SF. i only wish he had had a stage like that when he was in atlanta. he was one of our best players for the two years he spent here.
Guess I gave the Rangers a bit too much credit in my “Giants in 7″ prediction….
Anybody watch the new AMC zombie series filmed and set in Atlanta? The downtown scenes with the tank were about a block from the AJC’s old building. Pretty cool seeing a lot of Atlanta locations. I thought the show was pretty good, too. We’ll see how far they can go with it and keep it interesting, though.
Yawn… how much longer ’til the Winter Meetings? 30+ days? Seems like just about every scenario has been covered as far as trades and signings goes… so… now what?
Seems like just about every scenario has been covered as far as trades and signings goes… so… now what?
Free agency starts 5 days after the end of the World Series. I think there will be quite a few happenings that occur from then until the Winter Meetings. I’d hope Wren does a few things before then, too.
Texas has a couple of front line pitchers. When Lee came up flat in game 1, the Rangers were in dire straits. When their 3-4 pitchers have gone, they’ve typically won by out-slugging their opponent.
Against front line pitching, such as the Giants have 1-3, the Rangers’ hitting has not carried the day. Rangers need Lee to dominate, then find some way to win in SF in games 6, 7. That’s not looking too likely. Rangers may take the series to seven, but, they’re almost certainly not going to win it.
Watching SF should leave Braves fans with some hope for the future. But for an unearned run in Game 1 (helped along by a blown call on Posey’s steal) and a 9th inning melt-down in the top of the ninth in Atlanta, the injury depleted Braves could have bounced SF from the playoffs in the NLDS.
Who was the blogger who talked about Frenchy not losing all that money compared to Brian? And how if he played well in the post-season, blah blah blah?
In the playoffs, Frenchy has 21 AB, with a .143 AVG, .182 OBP, .190 SLG, and .372 OPS.
Braves should have most of their 2010 squad coming back in 2011.
With the addition of better in-field defense (supplied by the able tutelage of Terry Pendleton) and better hitting (supplied by the able tutelage of Larry Parrish), along with better in-game management (that was a shout out to the Cox haters in the world), Braves should give up 0 runs per game and score 6 runs per game to win the NL EAST with a record of 162-0.
i’m cool rich brave. crack always sells. always. i’m not gonna lie. the giants are killing me right now. i mean they looked ok vs the braves. ok. that’s it. against the phils they showed that they had some b*lls. the games were sloppy but the giants wanted it more and deserved to win. period. the con job by sanchez with utley/phils(hit batter, baby brawl) which bought time for a sf relv to get ready was genius. but 2 shout-outs, an exorcism of cliff lee and scoring runs like crazy in the world series?? come on. nobody could see this coming. if the phils haven’t won in 2008(now ancient history to the outside world) this would be unbearable.
I did watch “The Walking Dead” last night. Pretty good premise, and it was interesting to see so many Atlanta locations in the show. Even the early scenes with Rick going back to his house were shot in Grant Park (supposed to be somewhere in Kentucky, but you can see Grant Park landmarks in the background).
This season is only supposed to be 6 episodes, so it’ll be really interesting to see if they can develop enough story to get people invested without rushing things along too much.
There’s a BBC program called Dead Set that just played on IFC. It’s about zombies taking over the set of Big Brother. It only had a few episodes and ended up with everyone being eaten. I wonder if Walking Dead is the US version of that show.

I believe I had an “O’Brien kind of day” Saturday as I hit Community Barbeque for the first time, (and you haven’t oversold them at all), sampling the pulled pork with mac-n-cheese and stew as sides. Of course, after sampling the smoked chicken salad, I left with a pound of it to consume during the Georgia-Florida game. Man; so many times I’ve visited The Wuxtry just a couple of blocks up without realizing I was that close to heaven!
Then, it was on to Decatur CD where I was able to locate a copy of Allison Moorer’s first CD. All that was missing was a trip down to the ballpark for a game.
Hey DOB. I completely agree with your assessment of sandy as the mets GM. With their finances, and really an overall lack of a farm system, do you see the mets as a competitive club in the next few years? I don’t see a full blown rebuild, but you have to think on field personnel changes half to take place.
Man, the Vikings’ season keeps rolling downholl like a snowball headed…… Plus, I believe Favre won’t be getting quite as many “drinks on the house”, though he did play well for much of the game. The major NFL studio guys let him have it yesterday.
We did! We saw it a week ago Saturday—GREAT movie. One of my favorites, now…we already wnat the DVD!!
It really keeps you on the edge of your seat. I mean, even though you know he won the Triple Crown, the suspense is still incredible. What an outstanding story/movie…
And wasn’t that neat when the “real” Peggy Chenery was used as a cheering spectator at the end of the movie! I though Diane Lane did a great job and, if you’d like to see her earflier in her career, (that is-if you haven’t already seen it) make sure to watch “Lonesome Dove”, a great mini-series which also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover, Angelica Houston, Rick Schroder, Robert Ulrich, etc.
Man, I miss Braves’ baseball. I wonder what your mann is up to? Only good, I’m sure.
Speakig of “Lonesome Dove”, I can see the blogs own “nolie” fleshing out the character Robert Duvall plays, “Gus McRae”. And–iif nolie reads this, he’ll accept it as a compliment. Duvall’s great in “Dove”
As good as “Secretariat” is, I agree with you. It seems as if the all-’round cast of “Seabiscuit” is stronger. Jeff Bridges is a big part of that movie’s appeal IMO
Only the English major in me, worried that Dr. McMillan is waiting with her red pen. But then Dr. Cox in Constitutional Law stressed being a good steward and not using too many blue test books during our once a quarter test.
So, Dr. Cox wins out and I’ll quit using so much blog space correcting mistakes.
haggardAnd wasn’t that neat when the “real” Peggy Chenery was used as a cheering spectator at the end of the movie!
Yeah, I loved that! And Diane Lane did a great job. I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything else, but I’m sure Hulu or YouTube has the series you mentioned—I’ll have to remember to look that up sometime!
Man, I miss Braves’ baseball.
Me, too.
I wonder what your mann is up to?
Dunno…But I’d sure like to know! (I think ) That’s why I can’t stand this time of year, baseball-wise—ya’ve got absolutely no clue what some guys are doing! But, I know if anything exciting/int’resting/vital to our knowledge of all things Braves happens, DOB will give us the rundown!

How in the world are you, ‘Hawke?

Typo-correction posts are an insidious evil perpetrated by aliens intent on destroying mankind.
I got that straight from FoxNews, so you know it’s true.

I suppose rules of grammar are generally relaxed a bit on the blog. And, I notice many ignore e.b. white’s rules of brevity.

haggard And wasn’t that neat when the “real” Peggy Chenery was used as a cheering spectator at the end of the movie!
(I think
) That’s why I can’t stand this time of year, baseball-wise—ya’ve got absolutely no clue what some guys are doing!
But, I know if anything exciting/int’resting/vital to our knowledge of all things Braves happens, DOB will give us the rundown!
