In case the head to toe Cardinal and Gold wasn’t a hint
Why yes, yes it is
October 30th, 201011:57 am
Mets are a long way from competing. Maybe in 2-4 years, when they’ve had a couple of pretty good drafts, and Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo are off the books.
I think they will compete in 2012. Something like 50 million off of the books after 2011. Alderson is one of the best. Not good. Not good at all to have a smart GM with a team in our division that has over 120 million to spend. Their farm system is middle of the pack, though, with no big time star there. So that’s an issue they will have to deal with. But the Mets are back on track with this one, that’s for sure.
October 30th, 201012:01 pm
You do know I read the blog right? talking about me like I’m not here…
Well, cabravesfan, you missed my “good morning, sweetheart” the other day. I’m still a bit hurt over that one.
Have a GREAT time today! And don’t forget, pace yourself.
October 30th, 201012:03 pm
I’d say blame VJ for not telling me, but I could have gone back and looked…my computer has been giving me problems and tends to load pages way too slowly so I have not been going back to look and the overnight stuff
Thanks! I will try…it is Homecoming after all
October 30th, 201012:07 pm
What do you guys think about this…..
Sell KK to whoever for whatever hopefully save money.
Trade Aroldys Vizcaino and Mike Dunn for Carlos Quentin.
Sign Kerry Wood 2 yrs 9 million.
Sign Andruw Jones to a 1 yr 1.5 m deal.
Now that lineup is looking pretty good:
2B Martin Prado
CF Jason Heyward
3B Chipper Jones
RF Carlos Quentin
C Brian McCann
1B Freddy Freeman
LF Nate Mclouth/Matt Diaz
SS Alex Gonzalez
OF/1B Andruw Jones
UTIL Omar Infante
C David Ross
OF Matt Diaz/Nate Mclouth
IF Brooks Conrad
SP Tim Hudson
SP Derek Lowe
SP Tommy Hanson
SP Jair Jurrjens
SP Mike Minor
RHP Brandon Beachy
RHP Stephen Marek
LHP Eric O’flaherty
RHP Peter Moylan
LHP Johnny Venters
RHP Craig Kimbrel
RHP Kerry Wood
Now there’s a really, really solid team. WS caliber no doubt.
October 30th, 201012:09 pm
cabravesfan, are you gonna see the game?
Id go after KJ and insert him in LF.
No sarcasm there.
October 30th, 201012:12 pm
What do you people think about that?
October 30th, 201012:14 pm
I wouldn’t mind KJ back….I like him. I don’t see it happening though.
October 30th, 201012:17 pm
McLouth should be in CF, Heyward in RF if Quentin is traded for put him in LF. Braves should try and keep Hinske. Just because we have a LH hitter in Freeman doesnt mean we should let LH Hinske go. He’s very valuble. I think Matt Diaz should be non-tendered. The team needs to add a better defensive player as our 4th outfielder who can play all OF spots. Im not to High on Conrad after all those errors. Trading one of our LHP out of the pen makes alot of sense considering we have 3 good ones.
October 30th, 201012:19 pm
DOB.. The Roots are opening the Rally for Sanity on Comedy Central… and John Legend is currently playing with them. Good stuff.
October 30th, 201012:23 pm
I wouldnt mind having Kelly Johnson back either. But I’m not sure I’d be comfortable as him being our big pick up. I like KJ cause say if Chipper goes down, Prado moves to 3rd and KJ takes over 2b. I just think its time the Braves really take care of the LF spot for a few years.
October 30th, 201012:30 pm
Shout out to all brothers of ‘The Brave’……….
Hope everyone is doing well…………….
If Conrad goes…………..Id expect some NL East team to pick him and I can picture him hitting 2 grand slams in 2011
Anything is possible……….I have not heard anything about that……..but never know………..
Low chance of it happening since he is LH. No more LH please.
October 30th, 201012:31 pm
2012 will be a pretty good starting point for the Mets to start back to their winning ways.
They should sign David DeJesus, Freddy Sanchez, Mike Gonzalez, and Jonathan Papelbon…..Everything thing else needs to come from the organization it self. Their starting pitching will still be a concern but there’s really nothing they can do about that.
I’d like to see him back if he could hit anywhere but in Arizona. But he doesn’t, so I don’t.
October 30th, 201012:42 pm
VaBravesFan, vs righties Mclouth should be in CF, vs lefties Heyward should be in CF. Andruw Jones would be the back up plan in 1B for Freeman, and be the 4th outfielder that can play all three outfield positions. Matt Diaz should get non-tendered, but then signed back to much more reasonable contract, and he should play vs lefties in L.
I love Hinske but truth is I prefer Andruw just because he is right handed. Like Wren said, what interest the Braves about Hinske, was the Glaus, Hinske combo(righty, lefty).
October 30th, 201012:44 pm
Maybe the braves can shop Nate to AZ for KJ and some cash……….say 3 million…………then go after a CF……..or a RF and play Jason in CF.
According to Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record, Sandy Alderson will start by hiring Paul DePodesta, who currently works for the Padres.
Mets going Saber? Who’d a thunk it?
October 30th, 20101:00 pm
He hit .298 in Atlanta!
October 30th, 20101:05 pm
That may be just a tad too small of a sample size, my friend. But good one, though!
October 30th, 20101:07 pm
nate and diory hernandez and 2M for KJ
October 30th, 20101:09 pm
I was talking about the 2008 season
October 30th, 20101:11 pm
We would still have brandon hicks and enough millions to get RF or CF…………and our 4th OF should be henski.
Having KJ and Omar would be a luxury since they can play all over the place
Steve from OH
October 30th, 20101:17 pm
Yeah…like BH said, that’s not very good news for us. Omar was such a blessing.
cabravesfan: Farrell was great in the GameDay gig. He shoulda kept the Corso head on and headbutted Corso and the duck mascot.
October 30th, 20101:21 pm
I hate KJs glove for 2B but in LF he might not be as bad and his bat fits very well on our team. Lots of patience and more pop than what we have right now. Plus he comes cheap.
October 30th, 20101:29 pm
2008 season?!? Well, you could have been a little more specific, you know. Besides, that’s ancient history.
Did you know that Venice Jim was Georgia’s kindergarten hula-hoop champ in ‘59?
October 30th, 20101:35 pm
The guy is a good hitter, and now more mature.
Hey, it’s selective data that supports my point. I’ll cite something from 1874 if I have to. Anyway, that was his last full season in Atlanta…before he nose dived
October 30th, 20101:43 pm

Anyone Going To Wild Bills Tonight?
October 30th, 20101:47 pm
I don’t blame you, jeffrey d. As long as you understand it’s my job to find the possible weak spots to exploit.
Is it just my computer, or this site? I’ve rebooted 3 times in the last hour. The last two times I tried to post, the only thing that was working in the “submit comments box”, was my space bar.
It was taking forever to refresh, now there’s another line to wait in to submit.
October 30th, 20101:51 pm
I was Dressed As Tiger Woods, Getting My Swerve On!
I’m going to a Halloween party tonight. I stopped trimming my eyebrows about 6 weeks ago. I’m going as Andy Rooney!
October 30th, 20101:52 pm
Tom – I know…I just have an inexplicable bias for Kelly Johnson. If the situation was turned around, I’d have many weaek spots to exploit.
And it’s because there’s thousands of comments on one page (as opposed to 100 per page). It’s slow for all of us. My comment box is still blank right now because it’s thinking about all I’ve typed. Hey, there it is
October 30th, 20101:55 pm
October 30th, 20102:01 pm
To be perfectly honest with you, jeffrey d, I don’t think anyone was pulling any harder for KJ to snap out of it than I was. Well, maybe his wife and mother, but other than that….
Yeah, I liked him too.
October 30th, 20102:08 pm

My ISP has been F’d up since the storm last monday, therefore I haven’t been blogging
My Christmas Wish list will be Andrew McCutchen….I can taste a trade for him…
D.O.B. what are you doing for Halloween…?
October 30th, 20102:30 pm
My ISP has been F’d up since the storm last monday, therefore I haven’t been blogging — (T-Hawkin)
could’ve still gave me a ‘hey’ though, gee
October 30th, 20102:34 pm
I’d like McCutchen too, but he will be hard to trade for he’s comparable to Colby Rasmus in age and team control remaining. I cant see the Pirates trading him when he’s already there best overall player. There in dire need of Pitching and maybe a few young arms could do it, but he’s more valuble to the Pirates than Rasmus is to the Cards in terms of there lineups. I think going for Carlos Quentin would be the best bet. Should be a interesting offseason, i just dont see Wren not taking care of the power problem. this is the year LF is getting a everyday player with 20+ homer pop in Atlanta for 2-3 years.
October 30th, 20102:56 pm
You are not going to a crazy Halloween party Tonight…? I know a dude from a bar that looks like B-Macc, I partied with him last nite, He has the B-Maccc Beard and everything…
October 30th, 20103:33 pm
I know a dude from a bar that looks like B-Macc, I partied with him last nite, He has the B-Maccc Beard and everything…
She’ll be all over dat! Hyuk….
How's it going?
October 30th, 20103:51 pm
Is the blog fixed yet? Is this a transition to a new format? If so, why? Pages kept everything clean. This bogs down the blog and makes it harder to follow conversation and catch up to what was previously going on. Makes it easier to find O’Brien’s comments, but not exactly easy to keep a convo going. Hopefully, the ajc staff is working on it. Good luck.
October 30th, 20103:54 pm
Haha, no…no crazy Halloween parties for this gal! Never have been real into Halloween—except for the candy!
I know a dude from a bar that looks like B-Macc, I partied with him last nite, He has the B-Macc Beard and everything…
I miss BMac and the Braves.
October 30th, 20104:32 pm
Adam Jones > Heyward Mixxo
what a freakin’ laugh, not even close
October 30th, 20104:39 pm
He is not better than Heyward but he is a great defensive center fielder, Tomas
not consistently he ain’t. he only had a +1 in runs saved in 2010. Actually most of his defensive value is in his arm, he often does not get to balls that he should get to.
October 30th, 20104:51 pm
Adam Jones would be a great defensive LFer and still only 24 years old. Should turn into a 20-25 homer type guy. But his OBP. is bad considering he doesnt walk much at all. He has good speed but hasnt stole many bases but should get around 10 a season. Isnt a Free Agent unitl 2014. Not the ideal cleanup bat we need, but is a young player that is already a solid player with lots of potentail and ability. Rasmus and McCutchen are on a higher level for sure and I’d put B.J Upton in the same level as Adam Jones.
October 30th, 20104:52 pm
See where several of you seem to want Heyward in CF. Folks, a center fielder Heyward ain’t!
October 30th, 20104:53 pm
Not that anyone except me cares, but the College of William and Mary in Virginia is leading the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 17-7 at halftime…
October 30th, 20104:54 pm
i wish the blog problems were fixed.
October 30th, 20104:56 pm
Tater thanx loads for the link to the original Austin City Limits show, what a great historical find. Really appreciate it.
October 30th, 20104:57 pm
I agree about Heyward who should stay in a Corner Spot. He does have the ability to play CF if needed but hes better suited long term in a corner.
October 30th, 20104:58 pm
Adam Jones would be a great defensive LFer VaBF
yeah he probably would be pretty decent out there. as a hitter I’m not thrilled with the OBP either, but he would be a LF upgrade, prolly not cheap pick up though trade wise
October 30th, 20105:08 pm
William & WHO???
October 30th, 20105:10 pm
VJ,I hope W&M’s lead holds up – I caught a lot of grief over James Madison.
October 30th, 20105:12 pm
Thanks, CB – we are ranked #3 this week, tied for our highest ever…
October 30th, 20105:21 pm
I agree, but he shouldnt require as much as a return in trade than Rasmus,McCutchen,Kemp,Quentin. BJ Upton is comparable with Adam Jones tho. Josh Willingham should have less value than Jones or Upton even tho he’s been solid with the bat. His defense is below average and he does have some health risk and is older. The list is growing for OFers the Braves should/could be interested in. I’m sure will show some interest in Crawford and Werth but were not in position to get into any bid war. I’m sure will offer a contract to both players knowing we have no chance. Trading is the best way.
Adam Jones, Matt Kemp, Andrew McCutchin, Jacob Ellsbury, Colby Rasmus, Josh Willingham, BJ Upton, Carlos Quentin are the most talked about names so far.
October 30th, 20105:34 pm
Ordonez has been mentioned a lot too,
I’m not interested in Upton at all
Looking Forward to Freddies (both of them)
October 30th, 20105:35 pm
It may not be major headline news, but where is the announcement of the Beau Thorbert signing. He was Ind. player of the year after hitting .394 with 24HRs and 100RBIs. The Braves signed him on Oct. 28 2010. He is also an outfielder. He looks quite good (but unproven at the ML level yet)…
Here is the link http://t.love.com/381170231
October 30th, 20105:37 pm
Sorry I misspelled his name..it should read Beau Torbert
October 30th, 20105:51 pm
will he be any more use than Mitch Jones was?
October 30th, 20106:00 pm
the only real difference seems to be that his BA went up 80 points from the minors. That almost certainly would not be maintained at the MLB level, he still walks fairly rarely. He’s 27 years old in an Independent League not much hope there at all.
October 30th, 20106:11 pm
Well, I care by jeebers. Of course, by now we could use another update, James.
October 30th, 20106:14 pm
Yup McCutchen would be great in CF for us.
October 30th, 20106:17 pm
Arcade Fire alert: they’re going to be the musical guest on SNL 11/13
October 30th, 20106:24 pm
Adam Jones is better defensive player than Nate Mclouth…….Arm, range, etc everything, I’ve seen them both play, Mclouth has dis improved his game in every way, Adam Jones is improving every year.
October 30th, 20106:26 pm
Tom – down 21-17 with the ball, 37 seconds left, and 68 yards to go
October 30th, 20106:35 pm
And so it goes…giving up a 67 yard run to lose the game not the optimal way to go…adding injury to insult, our #2 QB knocked out on penultimate play after #1 QB and #1 RB were lost early in the game…
October 30th, 20106:37 pm
I’m thinking this 2ND half hasn’t gone too well.
October 30th, 20106:38 pm
As much as McCutchen would be a great fit, if the Pirates traded him it would be for something really nice in return.
It would be something like McCutchen for Heyward something outrages like that. So target somebody else in other words.
October 30th, 20106:39 pm
October 30th, 20106:41 pm
Well, go ahead Georgia.
October 30th, 20106:43 pm
Tom – typical I-A – I-AA game, getting worn down by the bigger, stronger team… now I have 6 hours of solitude before the return of the USC fan…
October 30th, 20106:45 pm
Adam Jones is improving every year Tomas
not according to the metrics he is not, and i didn’t say he wasn’t better than Nate, and i spent almost 12 years as a scout and i have seen them both play too,
October 30th, 20106:46 pm
now I have 6 hours of solitude before the return of the USC fan…
Jim, there’s always the Giants, the Rangers and us. Besides, in the shape that the USC fan may be returning in, you might want to savor the solitude.
October 30th, 20106:49 pm
October 30th, 20106:53 pm
nolie, did you see where I voiced my opinion about Adam Jones earlier, and brought your name up?
October 30th, 20106:54 pm
Tom – I had thought a few weeks ago I would be unable to go to the Oregon game, but it turns out I was able to, but there was not an available ticket (thanks to her brother’s mother-in-law )
October 30th, 20106:57 pm
prolly too it in vain, huh Tom?
I saw something with my name and Melkey maybe??
Jones is ok, but he ain’t anything all that special as of yet and he is erratic . course like I said B4 most anybody we can afford has some kinda warts,
October 30th, 20107:00 pm
Tom – I relayed your comment about her condition – her response – “I’m FINE!”
Back to watch World Series with a belly full of Bulluck’s pork BBQ. It’s a good place South of Atlanta, about 5 miles south of Starlite Drive-In on Moreland after it turns into Highway 42, a couple miles south of 285 and across the street from Fort Gillem.
Bulluck’s has genuine Eastern North Carolina style BBQ. The owner is from Rocky Mount, N.C. not far from where I grew up in Greenville, N.C.
(And she’ll add the red sauce if you prefer the Lexington-style Q)
October 30th, 20107:01 pm
Too bad, VJ. Huge game. Much like this game is for the Rangers. Do you realize that this is the first game…. ah, never mind.
GA 31 FL 31
GA is due for a turnover.
October 30th, 20107:03 pm
Ha! Still a long way to go. But it wouldn’t surprise me if she could go the distance.
October 30th, 20107:04 pm
Tom – but she won’t have anything once the game starts…
October 30th, 20107:06 pm
prolly too it in vain, huh Tom?
I saw something with my name and Melkey maybe??
It was only a little while ago, nolie, if you feel like scrolling back. As a matter of fact, it was on this very page!
October 30th, 20107:10 pm
that link to PBS that Tater provide earlier has a link to a Drive By Truckers/Ryan Binghan in the 2008-2009 ACL links. Pretty good stuff
October 30th, 20107:11 pm
Tom, caint be too far away then can it?
October 30th, 20107:18 pm
If this glitch lasts much longer , we will complain when it gets fixed
October 30th, 20107:21 pm
Why would the Pirates ever trade us McCutchen? Why does his name ever even come up on here other than as a wet dream fantasy? You’d have to trade a ton to get him, and I don’t see why the hell they would trade guy that good who is really cheap and still has about 5 years of club control left. If I’m the Pirates, and the Braves called for that cat, I’d say, fine, gimme Hanson and either Venters or Kimbrel.
October 30th, 20107:28 pm
I think Heyward is already more valuble and better than McCutchen but it would take a nice package for him to be traded, there biggest problem is developing pitching. They would prolly want Mike Minor and a top pitching prospect along with another prospect. They have no reason to trade McCutchin unless there over whelmed, he fits there plan, he is good and is being paid cheap and is there best player so it would have to be a impressive return.
October 30th, 20107:31 pm
Tom – but she won’t have anything once the game starts… — (Venice Jim)
I don’t know if you remember, but while you were driving her I said, pace yourself. Then, I looked up at the time and thought, my god, is she going to attend the game too. I mean, at the time there was still 8 hours to go. The last thing I asked her was if she was going to be at the game. I never heard back from her.
I wasn’t sure, because of the time, if she was just going to visit and party with old friends, or also attend the game. That would have made the pace yourself suggestion much more important.
October 30th, 20107:37 pm
If this glitch lasts much longer , we will complain when it gets fixed
I’m getting to like it, nolie. Before, whenever I got away from the blog, I’d have to read about 22 comments just to catch up —- 173 if I was crazy enough to get on during a Braves’ game.
But now I can relieve myself, get another beverage, feed some squirrels, and the blog is still in the same place. This is much more my speed.
October 30th, 20107:38 pm
nolie this is how I would rank defense for center fielders:
1. Shane Victorino
2. Andrew McCutchen
3. Dexter Fowler
4. BJ Upton
5. Colby Rasmus
6. Coco Crisp
7. Peter Bourjos
8. Michael Bourn
9. Chris Young
10. Drew Stubbs
11. Julio Borbon
12. Austin Jackson
13. Adam Jones
14. Vernon Wells
15. Andres Torres
16. Matt Kemp
17. Rick Ankiel
18. Curtis Granderson
19. Denard Span
20. Alex Rios
21. Franklin Gutierrez
22. Cameron Maybin
23. Marlon Byrd
24. Nate Mclouth
25. Nyjer Morgan
26. Tony Gwynn
27. Carlos Gomez
28. Alex Rios
October 30th, 20107:43 pm
VaBravesFan, I’m just saying McCutchen is their Heyward…..How would you react if a team inquired about Heyward, well thats how the pirates GM would react to an inquiry for McCutchen
October 30th, 20107:47 pm
Quentin is another name out there that could be available. RH, power and plays the OF.
