Mets are a long way from competing. Maybe in 2-4 years, when they’ve had a couple of pretty good drafts, and Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo are off the books.

I think they will compete in 2012. Something like 50 million off of the books after 2011. Alderson is one of the best. Not good. Not good at all to have a smart GM with a team in our division that has over 120 million to spend. Their farm system is middle of the pack, though, with no big time star there. So that’s an issue they will have to deal with. But the Mets are back on track with this one, that’s for sure.

What do you guys think about this…..

Sell KK to whoever for whatever hopefully save money.
Trade Aroldys Vizcaino and Mike Dunn for Carlos Quentin.
Sign Kerry Wood 2 yrs 9 million.
Sign Andruw Jones to a 1 yr 1.5 m deal.

Now that lineup is looking pretty good:

2B Martin Prado
CF Jason Heyward
3B Chipper Jones
RF Carlos Quentin
C Brian McCann
1B Freddy Freeman
LF Nate Mclouth/Matt Diaz
SS Alex Gonzalez
Pitcher

Bench:
OF/1B Andruw Jones
UTIL Omar Infante
C David Ross
OF Matt Diaz/Nate Mclouth
IF Brooks Conrad

Pitching
SP Tim Hudson
SP Derek Lowe
SP Tommy Hanson
SP Jair Jurrjens
SP Mike Minor
RHP Brandon Beachy
RHP Stephen Marek
LHP Eric O’flaherty
RHP Peter Moylan
LHP Johnny Venters
RHP Craig Kimbrel
RHP Kerry Wood

Now there’s a really, really solid team. WS caliber no doubt.

McLouth should be in CF, Heyward in RF if Quentin is traded for put him in LF. Braves should try and keep Hinske. Just because we have a LH hitter in Freeman doesnt mean we should let LH Hinske go. He’s very valuble. I think Matt Diaz should be non-tendered. The team needs to add a better defensive player as our 4th outfielder who can play all OF spots. Im not to High on Conrad after all those errors. Trading one of our LHP out of the pen makes alot of sense considering we have 3 good ones.

I wouldnt mind having Kelly Johnson back either. But I’m not sure I’d be comfortable as him being our big pick up. I like KJ cause say if Chipper goes down, Prado moves to 3rd and KJ takes over 2b. I just think its time the Braves really take care of the LF spot for a few years.

2012 will be a pretty good starting point for the Mets to start back to their winning ways.

They should sign David DeJesus, Freddy Sanchez, Mike Gonzalez, and Jonathan Papelbon…..Everything thing else needs to come from the organization it self. Their starting pitching will still be a concern but there’s really nothing they can do about that.

Tom O'Hawke

Tomas

VaBravesFan, vs righties Mclouth should be in CF, vs lefties Heyward should be in CF. Andruw Jones would be the back up plan in 1B for Freeman, and be the 4th outfielder that can play all three outfield positions. Matt Diaz should get non-tendered, but then signed back to much more reasonable contract, and he should play vs lefties in L.

I love Hinske but truth is I prefer Andruw just because he is right handed. Like Wren said, what interest the Braves about Hinske, was the Glaus, Hinske combo(righty, lefty).

I’d like McCutchen too, but he will be hard to trade for he’s comparable to Colby Rasmus in age and team control remaining. I cant see the Pirates trading him when he’s already there best overall player. There in dire need of Pitching and maybe a few young arms could do it, but he’s more valuble to the Pirates than Rasmus is to the Cards in terms of there lineups. I think going for Carlos Quentin would be the best bet. Should be a interesting offseason, i just dont see Wren not taking care of the power problem. this is the year LF is getting a everyday player with 20+ homer pop in Atlanta for 2-3 years.

He is not better than Heyward but he is a great defensive center fielder, Tomas

not consistently he ain’t. he only had a +1 in runs saved in 2010. Actually most of his defensive value is in his arm, he often does not get to balls that he should get to.

VaBravesFan

Adam Jones would be a great defensive LFer and still only 24 years old. Should turn into a 20-25 homer type guy. But his OBP. is bad considering he doesnt walk much at all. He has good speed but hasnt stole many bases but should get around 10 a season. Isnt a Free Agent unitl 2014. Not the ideal cleanup bat we need, but is a young player that is already a solid player with lots of potentail and ability. Rasmus and McCutchen are on a higher level for sure and I’d put B.J Upton in the same level as Adam Jones.

I agree, but he shouldnt require as much as a return in trade than Rasmus,McCutchen,Kemp,Quentin. BJ Upton is comparable with Adam Jones tho. Josh Willingham should have less value than Jones or Upton even tho he’s been solid with the bat. His defense is below average and he does have some health risk and is older. The list is growing for OFers the Braves should/could be interested in. I’m sure will show some interest in Crawford and Werth but were not in position to get into any bid war. I’m sure will offer a contract to both players knowing we have no chance. Trading is the best way.

Adam Jones, Matt Kemp, Andrew McCutchin, Jacob Ellsbury, Colby Rasmus, Josh Willingham, BJ Upton, Carlos Quentin are the most talked about names so far.

Why would the Pirates ever trade us McCutchen? Why does his name ever even come up on here other than as a wet dream fantasy? You’d have to trade a ton to get him, and I don’t see why the hell they would trade guy that good who is really cheap and still has about 5 years of club control left. If I’m the Pirates, and the Braves called for that cat, I’d say, fine, gimme Hanson and either Venters or Kimbrel.

VaBravesFan

I think Heyward is already more valuble and better than McCutchen but it would take a nice package for him to be traded, there biggest problem is developing pitching. They would prolly want Mike Minor and a top pitching prospect along with another prospect. They have no reason to trade McCutchin unless there over whelmed, he fits there plan, he is good and is being paid cheap and is there best player so it would have to be a impressive return.

I mean, at the time there was still 8 hours to go. The last thing I asked her was if she was going to be at the game. I never heard back from her.

I wasn’t sure, because of the time, if she was just going to visit and party with old friends, or also attend the game. That would have made the pace yourself suggestion much more important.
