I am concerned about Freeman’s upper cut swing. Not many have succeeded in the majors with that type of swing.

Just think we were only a few errors away from beating the Giants’ best pitchers!!!
Not happy about that but delighted that San Fran is doing their job well!!!

I think it’s pretty pointless to predict a 2011 lineup for the Braves (or just about any other team) right now. Having said, however, here’s the lineup that I’d *like* to see:

Prado 4
Chipper 5
Heyward 9
McCann 2
Right-Handed Power Hitter 7
Gonzales 6
Freeman 3
McLouth 8

Omar DOES NOT NEED TO PLAY IN THE OUT FIELD! Third or short yes.

Fragile Freddie Freeman… the Braves first baseman… what a joke.

It’s time to set the record straight. 2010 Braves = HEART; 2010 Phillies = hype. The Phartin’ Phils are about to see their season end at the hands of the Giants, a team The Braves battled every game in the playoffs. Comparing the Phils to the Braves goes as follows: Halladay (best pitcher in regular season) slight edge over Hudson; the rest of the Braves starters have big edge over Phil’s starters. Bull pen: huge edge for Braves (Phils have so little confidence in Lidge they use “Ol Roy” Oswald in Game 4 to disasterous results). First Base: Ryan Howard has edge over Lee; second base Prado big edge over declining Utley; shortstop – even; 3rd base: Chipper has huge edge over Polanco; Jayson Heyward edge over Werth (BTW: After this year, Phils will be even more “Werthless”; CF: Victorino has edge over Ankiel/McClouth; LF: toss up (Diaz and Ibanez are average); Catcher: 5-time all star Brian McCann vs Ruiz, who would be 3rd string on Braves. Intangible: Braves have heart, Phils have hype.

there is no way that freddie freeman is not our first baseman if you guys want a legit outfielder. the way the payroll is looking we MAY have the room to get one outfielder with Freeman as our first baseman. if we need two we will probably be trading Jurrjens. I’d take the following lineup anyday

1. Martin Prado
2. Colby Rasmus
3. Chipper Jones
4. Big Bat
5. Brian McCann
6. Jason heyward
7. Alex Gonzalez
8. Freddie Freeman.

It provides a great lefty righty split throughout the entire lineup. and ill take a freeman as a number 8 hitter any day.

A couple of low key moves I would love to see from the Braves would be to add Wes Helms to the bench (not replacing Hinske, but hopefully adding depth) and a baserunning coach, maybe someone like Brett Butler or Otis Nixon. I think a guy like that, maybe even as roving instructor for the minors and the big league team. would be a real asset. I personally think Heyward, with his instincts, should be able to steal 20-25 bases and if Nate is playing at least part time that he could be as productive.
Add Helms to Hinske, FF, Prado, Jones, Infante, Gonzalez and Brooks, with an 4 outfielders and 2 catchers and we could still carry our 11 pitchers. Kimbrell, Venters, Moylan, Oflaherty, Martinez, Dunn or Marek.
If they want to carry another reliever, then brooks might fall by the way, but I would rather go with 11 pitchers. Wonder which way Fredi will go with the roster. I know Bobby always liked that extra pitcher, but with guys like KK and Chavez it seemed like a waste of roster space,

Why does everyone keep listing McCann as our cleanup hitter. This has to stop. You cannot have a cleanup hitter that sits every 5th day!!
Besides that he is not a cleanup hitter. Did he even get 20 homeruns this year?
We have got to have a power outfield bat!!
We only have 3 people coming back in this lineup from last year.
McCann, Heyward, Prado. The rest are unknowns. We dont know about chipper, we dont know about gonzalez. We have to go get some people fast and not sit around and wait to see what everyone else is going to do.

McCann had 21 homers and 77 RBI. Granted he does sit every 5th day. His numbers are good. But you cannot have your power guy sitting out every 5th day. We need someone that can hit 30 plus homers and in the line up daily.

1b Freeman (unknown
2nd Prado

Rf Heyward
C McCann
looks like a lot of what ifs to me.

I am afraid that Wren will trade away a few more Andrus, Neftali’s and Blancos for another McLousy. I think you have to go young. We don’t have the money to stock the team with over the hill free agents.

All the experts that second guess Wren need to realize that we didn’t anyone near Andrus and Neftali for any of the other guys besides Tex. At the time, Tex was considered the second best 1b in the Majors. The guys we gave up for Vazquez, McLouth, Ankiel/Farnsworth and the like were not cornerstone guys. I still think the biggest problem with the Tex deal was what we got back in the aftermath.

It’s one thing to plug a rookie like Freeman into a lineup full of good hitters, but the Braves are counting on him to produce like a seasoned first baseman AND make up for the lack of offense from left and center field (none of the other faces have changed at this point) AND do this without protection of any right-handed power hitting behind him. If Freeman struggles at the plate next season could crash and burn quickly.

Right on Jim – We have traded (given) away quality players for what – maybe’s, and use to be’s. We were an over achieving team this year. Looks like we have young pitching for replacing Lowe and Huddy WHEN needed and good relief pitching. If you look at stats, of all major league teams, leave out the names, we would look very average or below. Wren, do not give all your young players away. If JJ can be traded for a good, fast, power hitting OF, get it done. You probably want be able to resign him in the future. With no money to spend, hopefully our farm systems have future MLP. Team speed – 0, Team Power – 0, Team Defense – 0, Conditioning Coach – 0, Hitting Coach – maybe getting one. Christmas list is very large (new owners, too). Wren, what I am saying is build a team. You cannot pay 3 or 4 players all the available money and be the best. Go Braves.
