Will Emmel get rotated out to the outfield or to third base? What is the rotation? He started at second, moved to first and then to home plate.

I’d think he will be on one of the OF lines tonight.

Maybe Ankiel can nail him throwing the practice ball back in during one of the inning breaks!

I wouldn’t worry too much about Glaus. He was a third baseman for 10-12 yrs. He can make all the routine plays just on muscle memory. He might even surprise us with a very good one!
And if the Giants want to bunt all game, GOOD!! that plays into our hands.

How’d you guys like Ross pinch running for McCann in the 9th. I have a hard time believing Ross has that much more speed. This would have been a really stupid move if the game would have gone into extra innings. Ross has had a good year with the bat but he’s not McCann.

TV guys were making a big deal out of something that happened to McCann, and then I read somewhere he was lost and wasn’t playing today. Glad to see that, but what in the world happened? Twist an ankle on a rolling bat?

Speaking of Diory, there is no reason for Cox not to have confidence in him or at least more so than Conrad defensively. Diory spent a good deal of time with the team last year and handled himself well defensively. I seriously doubt anyone can think Conrad is better defensively.

Why now Bobby? You finally saw the light. The Kid should have been in the 6 hole all season. I hope it’s not to late. Can’t wait until it’s cox’s final game. He has done a poor job the last 6 wks. Kimbrel should have stayed in the game. I believe McCann is getting worse in handling pitchers. He gets confused on the pitch selection. Go Braves and head for SF.

Bat, it looked to me like Emmel was calling strikes differently for the Braves than he was for the Giants. And as you said the “pitchtrax” graphic TBS has on there coverage would back that up. Does this have to do with the flack he was getting from Bobby and the Bravos for the blown calls in game 1 and 2? If it does that is a stunning lack of professionalism from an MLB umpire.

Nice column, DOB…one of the best in recent memory!

I wish the fans will show big heart tonight and actually applaud (instead of booing) when Conrad pinch-hits tonight.. such gesture will go a long way in motivating the players.. It is really tough for anyone to handle.. I wish Conrad is left alone. I am sure it is tough for him to be with himself in such moments, let alone with the booing fans..It was okay to show emotions last night but we need to move ahead and leave him alone now..

In regards to the bunting…theoretically if could kill the Braves but on the flip side it could make for some easy/quick outs. Or even just get Lowe ahead in the count with early strikes. Could also mess with the Giants mentally if they are thinking about bunting instead of hitting.

If the Braves get a big lead, does Bobby bring Brooks into the game to try and get him over his issues or does he just leave him on the bench? My guess is, with the way this game can turn on a dime, Brooks only makes it in as a PH for the pitcher. He won’t play a single inning in the field.

There is no doubt that the Braves would not have made it to the playoffs without Conrad. I blame Bobby for not benching Conrad sooner when it was obvious that this had gotten into his head. Many say that one of the best things about Bobby is that he is loyal to his players. Well, this is one time when that loyalty cost him and the team dearly. The Braves have no chance now. Even if they win tonight they have no chance against The Freak in game 5. The season ended last night.

I was at the game last night and booed. I can’t remember ever booing one of my own players. It was the culmination of the entire game. Not being able to get a hit, looking dead all game, Hinkse’s blast, and then chair being pulled out.

I still feel it BC’s responsibility leaving him in there. I know he has extremely limited options, but you could just see he was having extreme issues doing the simple things. I am a big Cox fan but this is one of the times that his style comes back to haunt him.

Would love to see Brooks get an opportunity to put this in the past- he was a great bench player this year. He wouldn’t have had the chance for that nightmare last night if he hadn’t played so well.

Problem with Glaus is that he hasn’t hit and has no mobility. If Glaus was a shell of what he was in May we would have won the division. After we were 7 up, we held a 3 game lead for about 21/2 weeks when every time we lost Philly lost, every time we won Philly won. Philly actually started playing better before Utley and Howard returned. It was when Ibanez, who til that point was struggling, got hot and carried the team. The Phils were dead in the water when they were 7 down. We just didn’t have the knockout punch at the time. Then Lowe and KK were getting rocked on a consistent basis and we lost Chip, Prado, Medlen, and JJ. I pray for Lowe tonight. His slider has been effective for more than a month. Hopefully, we can win a laugher.

Game 2: Bobby brings in Farnsworth (out of necessity, but ahead of Beachy and Martinez). If that one had blown up, we’d still be talking about what a knucklehead move that one was. But it worked.

Not hearing anything about the genious of BC for bringing in Farnsworth. Managers get most of the blame when a move backfires, but little to none of the praise when it goes well.

I don’t see what the big deal about getting booed is. As someone who has been on stage, if you get booed because you had a crappy performance you suck it up and move on. I have no idea why Conrad can’t be booed. Everyone at one point and another has been criticized after messing up. Just because you’re not the best at your job doesn’t mean you are immune to criticism. No asked Conrad to be Chipper or Prado, all we asked is for him to make the routine defensive plays he was hired to make.

Billy (TBFKB): I’m a huge fan. Have been since 1968. And I know a gutted team when I see it. I stick by my prediction. And forgive me, but I can’t even watch tonight. I’ve seen too many of Cox’s train wrecks to watch another one. When he took out Kimbrel last night for the lefty-righty BS, I knew we would lose. To quote Elton John, “I’ve Seen that Movie, Too.” I’ve actually seen it too many times. The only thing I got wrong about last night’s train wreck once it started was I figured we would lose in extra innings. I had no idea that Conrad would make another tragic error. But Bobby Cox is a creature of habit. The lefty-righty thing is his religion. He would pull John Smoltz in his prime as a closer for Rudy Seanez just to get a lefty-lefty matchup. I’m sick of it. In 1996 I thought we still had a chance after the Leyritz-Wohlers home run. We didn’t. The team was gutted. This team is gutted. They will go out and go through the motions tonight. And lose big. I hope I’m wrong. But I know I’m not, and I can’t watch it again. I’ve seen it too many times in my 50 odd years.

Wayne in Utah,

Yeah your right…I’m more frustrated on the impact it has on the game rather than the Braves, Rays, Giants, etc, etc.

People can talk that no matter what the umpire does you still have to overcome it. I call B.S. to an extent when an umpire has a cumulative effect that Emmel has on this series.

As hard it is to be a MLB player it must be equally or even more so to become a MLB umpire. Why does this guy even have a job with the complete lack of skill in calling games.

Plenty of blame to go around. Middle of the order hasn’t hit squat, Heyward seemed to have two key mental lapses, first by not calling off Conrad on the drop and then being indecisive on Huff’s game tying hit. Sanchez couldn’t catch up to Kimbrel’s fastball, why did Mccann call the slider? and if Kimbrel shook him off, who lets a 21yo rook shake him off? Did I say the middle of the order hasn’t hit squat? Scouting report says right there that Sanchez is hard on lefties, Heyward hasn’t hit for a month, why not bat him 6th yesterday and move Diaz or Gonzalez up? Why do you bring a journeyman lefty to finish against a guy who hits lefties better than righties? Don’t the coaches read the scouting reports? It’s a team loss, gang, from the top to bottom.

Michael Richards was wrong and if Brooks did the same thing he would be wrong. And so would anyone that was doing the same thing to Brooks.

My point is if I boo Conrad without dropping racial slurs or insulting his family. Brooks needs to be able to handle it. Booing is the form of criticism players get from fans. Some go over the line personalize, trash people in front of their families, throw things and they are wrong. But from what I saw Brooks got booed, he didn’t get batteries thrown at him or any racial slurs and the like. If you get on a stage, you should expected to be booed or laughed at when you mess up. Heck, maybe I should boo Chase Utley when he’s in Atlanta because he may snap.
