Game 3 vs Giants
Probable starters: RH Tim Hudson (17-9, 2.83) vs. LH Jonathan Sanchez (13-9, 3.07)
Sunday’s matchup:
• Hudson won each of his last two starts in must-win situations for the Braves, including his win over the Phillies on the last day of the season a week ago. He allowed only two hits that day, but both were two-run homers in a game the Braves held on to win 8-7. He’s working on six day’s rest. Hudson went 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA in two starts against the Giants in the regular season. He pitched eight scoreless innings in a win Aug. 7 at Turner Field. He gave up two runs in seven innings in a no-decision April 9 at AT&T Park. Hudson is 11-5 with a 2.48 ERA at Turner Field this season. Aaron Rowand is 8-for-21 (.381) against him.
• Sanchez pitched the NL West clincher over the Padres Sunday with five shutout innings. He’s been one of the Giants’ hottest pitchers coming down the stretch, going 6-3 with a 2.27 ERA since Aug. 1. Sanchez is 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA in seven career games against the Braves, including five starts. He’s 0-1 with a 7.56 ERA in two starts against them this year, allowing seven run in 8 1/3 innings. He didn’t make it five innings in either outing. Nate McLouth and Brian McCann are each 3-for-7 (.429) against him, including a home run from McLouth. David Ross also has a two-run homer off him.

I’d rather have Diory at third, with Glaus coming in as a PH. But I’m with you on McLouth. Honestly, anyone would be better than the Melk Dud.

Fascinating series. We all know (I hope) that the Braves have absolutely no business being in it. Homefield advantage? Ahem…look at attendence in the stretch…horrible. A bad defensive team, with no team speed and very little power shouldn’t even be in the playoffs. Bobby has held this team together with bailing wire and duct tape, and maybe he can keep rolling sevens, but I can’t see how. I know this is about miracles, and I try to remember that the race does not always go to the swift, nor victory to the strong…but that’s the way to bet.

What is your problem? No we don’t all know “that the Braves have absolutely no business being in it.” They’ve gotten where they are fair and square by winning enough games. Are we underdogs? Yes! But, somehow this resilient team is finding a way to stay in the game and any fan that isn’t inspired by that has to be suspect. This story is still being written and if it goes much further, will be one for the ages. It could all end Monday, but it could also end with the most unlikely, rag tag, bunch of guys ever assembled defying the odds and winning it all. Either way, I’m on this train and I’m cheering it on! Go Braves!!!

Braves would be dead in the water right now if Gonzalez doesn’t break out of his slump with that double and not arguing the call at second. If Conrad would have made a case the night before then the fire would have been stirred then and possibly Braves would be up 2-0. Braves have to act like they want it. With Glaus at third showing a desire ,the rest of the Braves would and will follow. Knowing the uncertainty of having a guy at third who won’t field(Infante) or throw the ball (Conrad) or can’t even show leadership out on the field is a terrible way to end a season of hard work. Braves need Glaus on the field just for his leadership. He got the Braves in first and no one has been able to replace his leadership since. It’s been a constant struggle since the whole contract incentive bs has nearly signal handedly derailed the Braves season.

if the braves have no business being in the playoffs, they wouldn’t be there, cherokee. but they have pitching that can compete with any team in it and a solid group of young guys and vets that, while not the most consistent, fast, or powerful hitting group, can go out and give our pitchers a few runs to work with and a chance to win.
mccann, i think, needs to step up BIG in the rest of these games. he’s our leader.

I am a fan, a twenty year season ticket holder, and will be there. I’m also a realist and student of the game. I realize they qualified for the post season as a result of their record. My comment about them having no business being her is that no team with this little power, team speed and defense should be in the playoffs. Losing Medlin and Kawakami, Jones, Prado and Wagner…an outfield with some moments but also with some sub-Mendoza batting averages and Charlie Crist arms. If they pull it off, it will indeed be one of the great campfire stories of all time and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of the experience. The observation about pitching is true, but that’s only one half of the “pitching and defense” formula, and we haven’t demonstrated a lot of the latter. I’ll be cheering the whole way, but if this group runs the table, it deserves its own wing at Cooperstown.

I still can’t figure out why they put Troy Glaus in on defense in the first place even though it worked out great except for losing Wagner (they wouldn’t have been bunting if Infante was playing 3rd). I know they are saying it was a double switch and Glaus would eventually at for the pitcher but they could have just pinch hit for the pitcher w/Glaus.

Nah everybody would be bunting down the 3rd baseline for HITS. Infante at 3rd, Conrad at 2nd and Ankiel in CF for power and defense though Ankiel is not nearly as good a against lefties so might see Melky in CF scary.

Glaus needs to be in the line up today….two reasons why the giants cant expose him until the late innings is, giants have no team speed except for torres at the top, and hudson is one of the best at fielding his position. Glaus has to be there…..you cant have Melky batting 5th protecting McCann in the line up….Reguardless of how McClouth hits Sanchez (only 7 abs to go on), Ankiel is in the flow of the series, so go with the hot hand……and if your worried bout Glaus at 3rd behind a groundball pitcher in huddy, remember you have a first baseman that scoops better than a baskin n robbins employee>>>>>>> 2b infante, Heyward rf, lee 1b, McCann C, Glaus 3rd, Diaz lf, Gonzo SS, Ankiel Cf>>>>>>> keep a open mind on the closer, depending on the righty, lefty matchups…..but definatily use Kimbrel in the most crucial of situation, he”s been lights out……….PREDECTION: braves 6 giants 3

OK my friends and colleges, everyone always says you have to clean up your own back yard first. Well here is our chance to do so. Amendment 1 to the Georgia Constitution will be on your fall Ballot. If that amendment passes, we the people will lose our right to work status in Georgia! The ballot question is intentionally written to be confusing.
It reads, Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to make Georgia more economically competitive by authorizing legislation to uphold reasonable competitive agreements? Vote yes or no.
What it should read is if you leave a job is it fair to tell you, “you have to find a new career”? The whole competitive question is a matter of squashing competition in the state. If this law passes and you work for Georgia Power as an accountant, then they can require you to sign a contract that says if you leave the company, whether you quit or get fired, you cannot find another job as an accountant within what they consider their territory. You will have to rely on a new skill set for a period of time as spelled out in the contract.
If you are a doctor, and Emory Hospital has you under contract, then they can tell you that you cannot practice medicine, outside their facility, for two years after you leave the hospital. The Young doctor has to go be a mechanic for two years before he can come back to medicine. Someone please tell me how you can walk away from your chosen profession for one to two years and be current when you try to return to the field.
Vote No on Amendment 1.
Savannah Morning News opposes Amendment 1. The editorial board said, “GEORGIA VOTERS who foresee starting their own businesses or simply going to work for a different employer in their current fields should vote “No” on Amendment 1. If for no other reason, Georgians should object to this measure based on the fraudulent wording of the ballot item…Amendment 1 would upset that balance of power, and thus deserves a “No” vote on Nov. 2.”
