Sunday’s Game 3 at Turner Field set for 4:37 p.m.

Game time for Sunday’s Division Series Game 3 between the Braves and Giants at Turner Field will be 4:37 p.m., Major League Baseball announced.

Monday’s Game 4, if necessary, will be at 8:37 p.m. Or if the Phillies/Reds series is over, Game 4 would be at 7:37 p.m.

If there’s a Game 5, it will be in San Francisco, Wednesday Oct. 13 at 9:37 p.m. If it’s the only Division Series game that day, it will be at 8:07 p.m.

Games 1 and 2 in San Francisco will start at 9:37 p.m. as previously announced.

the first round really needs to be 7 games as well.

8:37 is too late for a weekday game. With the three SF games starting at 9:37 that leaves only Sunday’s game as being early enough for school kids in Atlanta to be able to watch the whole thing. How does MLB expect to cultivate young fans when they schedule these games so late?

MLB continues to wonder why they can’t build a new generation of fans…..start times of 9:37et on weeknights may have something to do with it.. especially considering that would be the timeslot for a decisive GAME 5, which should be the game that they HOPE for and want to SHOWCASE to all.

If I were a boss, supervisor, or team leader in Atlanta, I would post a notice on the bulleting board asking that anyone who is an avid Braves fan, to please sign their name. That way I would know who who either be late coming in to work Friday, or not show up at all. You just know that game Thurs. nite starting at 9:45 EST will not be over until at least 12:30 or 1 AM. If it goes extra innings we could be looking at 2 or 3AM. Friday’s output in the workplace will fall to about 50%. Of course, coffee sales will double!

I got no problem with the 9:30 start times out West, since that’s a reasonable hour for Frisco fans buying tickets. The folks who show up should get first consideration over TV. I do have a problem with waiting a full day plus to decide the home game start times. The Braves want to sell out but some of us have LIVES and need to know when the dang things are gonna be played. As always, it’s TV jerking around the paying customers. You want me there, you need to tell me when the thing is gonna be played first.

Makes you wonder if these starting times are determined by one person, or a committee? I can see the reasoning behind the starting times in SF, although one hour earlier would have been ideal, even for the West coast. The one in Atlanta on Sunday probably has a lot to do with the Falcons game. The one that looks asinine is the Monday night game. No excuse or reason for that whatsoever. That’s almost 9PM ET and kids have to go to school on Tuesday. It could be a deciding game and many young boys will miss it. Shame on you, MLB, use some common sense and logic for once. GTFan, if you don’t care about the Braves they why are you posting on here?

I think it’s funny that people are complaining about a 9:37 start for games 1&2 and also complaining about a 4:37 start. If the game started at 8:37 ET as someone suggested, that would be 5:37 in San Fran. Not exactly the “night game playoff atmosphere” since it isn’t dark yet. And when there are 3 or 4 games being played in a day, someone is going to get the raw end of the deal.

And I wish all you sexist morons would realize that there are plenty of women and young girls that like sports too. “Many young boys” will miss the game because it’s too late. Many young girls might too. Of course, many might just stay up and watch the game anyway. That’s what I did, including the ‘95 WS Game 3 that went 11 innings and was 4 hours long on a Tuesday night. And I got up and went to school the next day.

“BOBBY COX WIFE BEATER

October 5th, 2010
1:02 pm
Why does nobody care that he PUNCHED his wife. Seriously, he does not deserve all the love.”

This is a very simple statement about a situation that frankly is anything but simple and has caused me to think about for 15 years now. Here are some random thoughts I have about this very complicated situation:

1. Ms. Cox apparently told police that she had been assaulted “many times” previously, but had not come forth because of the negative publicity and the potential stress on the daughters, including the 13-year-old who witnessed the incident.

2. Bobby told police that he had been assaulted previously as well, and cited his response as basically a reaction to that. Indeed, what I remember reading in the AJC many years ago seemed to correspond to what Bobby was saying–she was attacking him, and he reacted by hair-pulling, shoving, etc.

3. In light of points one and two, then came the curious joint statement refuting the police report and newspaper accounts.

4. Also in light of the first two points is the backstory, at a party at their house with friends, obvious alcohol consumption (I remember a long ago DUI that Cox had as well), Pam “commenting” about Bobby spilling a drink (the unsaid but implied thought here was that she embarrassed Bobby in front of his friends), and considering the fact that Pam was aware that Bobby, generally a nice and accomodating man, also had a temper quick enough to be ejected from more games than any manager in MLB history. If point one had fact, what would make Pam do this?

5. After this incident, I remember reading that the Braves required Bobby to undergo anger management classes. I’m not sure how that was handled during the season, or whether Pam underwent any training/therapy (that would have been beyond the team’s jurisdiction), but how ironic it was that this occurred in 1995–the year of the World Series Championship?

6. It has been 15 years since the “incident”. No incidents and the couple remains married. It is well documented that they spend a lot of time together in the “offseason”, traveling with friends, etc. No one knows for sure what two people who live together go through, especially given the crazy yet rewarding career that Bobby has, but one would at least have to assume that they have grown as a couple over the last 15 years, because neither really have to be together considering Bobby’s accumulated wealth.

In summary, there seems to be so many layers to this, and being both a fan of the Braves and of Bobby for so long, I’d like to think that both of them learned a lot from this incident, and that it strengthened their relationship going forward. Now I have no more knowledge of this than the random people who yell “wife beater”, and I suppose we are all entitled to our opinions.

REAL baseball fans and REAL Braves fans will watch or DVR the game no matter what time it is on.

From 1991-1994, I was stationed in Germany. I would get some sleep, then get up at 2:00 AM and watch the game (didn’t have DVR’s back then, and I didn’t want to tape the game). Then I would go to work at 8:00 and work a full day. Then start it all over again for the next game. I did this for the NLCS and WS, didn’t have the NLDS back then. I figured I could ’suffer’ for 3 weeks. So a 9:30 PM game is nothing to me.
