If Braves win two games we are the WC champs, no playoff needed.

I left this on another post, but here’s every scenario for the last three games. This all assumes that the Giants and Padres win tonight.

Right now, the only bad scenario is if the Padres sweep. But if they lose tonight, that still guarantees us a one game playoff. AND that assumes that the Braves would get swept by the Phillies.

If the Braves win two against the Phillies, it’s all irrelevant. They’re in regardless.

Wow cool…..the real DOB..(LOL).

Nicely done DOB….now I can put a voice to the words..(LOL)…and me personally, I’m rooting for the Giants to win the West. I think they’ll have a pretty good chance of beating the Phils in their series…while the Braves (providing they DO get to the playoffs) are beating the Reds.

Thank god, the Braves won’t be facing the Phils first round.

DOB, did you happen to catch Ken Burns “Tenth Inning” on PBS? I know they had to focus on the home run chase and steroid scandal, but there was literally a single mention of the Braves, when they threw in Glavine and Maddux as pitchers who pitched in the same era when Pedro Martinez did. It seems a team that still dominated in the late 90s and early 2000’s was completely over looked. Just curious if you had any thoughts.

It’s correct that we win two and we’re in. But also – if the Giants and Padres both lose today, then the Braves can clinch the wild card with a single win tomorrow night. And if just the Padres lose tonight, then a win on Friday night guarantees us at least a one-game playoff.

@ retired YES….hopefully the Reds can eliminate the Phillies…the Reds haven’t been to the Playoffs since 1995 that town is FIRED UP….
I’m getting ahead of myself…but I think we get in and play San Fran in the first round…we split in San Fran and then win 2 in Atlanta..to win the series

Where is Otis Nixon? I miss watching his defense in the outfield. Otis made the best catch I ever saw when he flipped over the wall to rob someone of a home run.

OK, if my math is correct, it is possible for the Braves, Padres and Giants to all finish with 91 wins. Giants win today and Padres lose, then Padres sweep Giants, while Braves win one. What happens in that case?

Daniel Horton

Obee: The Padres and Giants would play a one game playoff for the NL West. The loser would play the Braves in Atlanta for the Wild Card.

Great blog DOB—good seeing your mug on the screen. You’re right, the Braves are making the playoffs despite the fact nobody’s hitting a lick. We really could have used LaRoche these last couple months… Great concert posters on the ceiling. Whats up with the shirt man, are you trying out for the rodeo?

Wow, say what you want about “pitching and defense” being the cornerstone of a great team, but the Pads are living proof that you need to have at least SOME hitting; they just got beaten three out of four by the Cubs. At PetCo. In a must-win series.

There, but for the grace of the Atlanta bench, go the Braves. Amen.

The man Otis robbed was Pirate Andy Van Slyke…in 92, (if I’m not mistaken). I remember that catch AND game like it was yesterday.

If the Pads and giants tie then the loser of the 1 game playoff would have an extra loss

DOB,
Great video post and totally agree with your perspective on JJ. Going into the season I was convinced if the Braves got 15 Ws from the big 4 (Huddy,Lowe,Hanson,JJ) then they would unfurl another NL East pennant. Even though that didn’t materialize, this team has shown the ability to deliver the dramatics and let’s hope they continue to produce deep into October. They certainly control their own destiny this weekend, GO BRAVES and when you have time, hit the Big Head Todd and the Monsters website, great songs, great music and great band. Thanks for your insights, peace/out.

Daniel Horton… are you sure if Braves win one and Padres force a playoff the loss won’t count towards the wild card leaving the Braves a half game up and giving them the Wild Card?

My own question answered… from MLB.com: “If the Padres sweep and the Braves lose two of three, they and the Giants would all be 91-71, setting up a pair of one-game playoffs. San Francisco would visit San Diego on Monday to decide the West, with the loser playing in Atlanta on Tuesday for the Wild Card. If San Diego wins twice and Atlanta is swept, the Padres and Braves will be even in the standings and will play a one-game playoff.”

Clay, how is it possible for both the Giants and the Padres to lose today? They are playing each other! Rethink that one.

Nevermind Clay, I just now noticed you posted that yesterday. Now I understand. My mistake. It’s the little things in life that get me down, same as “Rainy Days and Mondays”.
