nolie, I really don’t think the Braves have much financial flexibility this offseason. So I think they need to do what they can to get out of either Kawakami or McLouth’s contracts. I think Kawakami is probably their preference given their lack of outfield talent…..or even warm bodies for center or left.
@bravofan, that’s what it’s looking like. but, if the braves win tomorrow night, will they stay to the wee hours of the night to see if they can pop some champagne in their clubhouse.
Efrim–even if the Braves had a lot of flexibility financially, what big name is out there for them? Werth, maybe, but is he worth a long-term deal? If anything, they’ll try to cash in some of their minor league chips for a controllable player.
And I doubt Kawakami is going anywhere but the waiver wire…
Braves have a pretty good shot of sweeping the Phils. One win will do it, Pads have no chance of sweeping that series. Philly loving the fact playing Cincy.
Steve, good point. They’ll probably get a player whose salary is around 3-5 million anyway, but I really want a good right handed reliever as well. I think a guy like Putz would be a great fit. And I’m not sure if you saw my last point, but it would be nice to get a backup right handed hitting first baseman too…just in case Freddie has troubles with the lefties.
with the Braves looking like they are headed for the playoffs, it will not cause the Phills to try to go for the sweep. The Phillies would love to sweep the Braves and keep them from the playoffs but they will not do anything to wear out their team for the playoffs. They also will not want the Braves to get even more looks at their regular pitchers or field players in case we meet up in the NLCS.
noleee – I agree. Great defender and right handed bat with some pop but all the big, big numbers in ‘zona. I would love to see Ellsbury and Willingham both along with Heyward. That is a strong OF.
A realistic target. Just not sure if the Nats will want to deal him if Dunn signs elsewhere. They need to keep some fans in the park next year with Stras hurt…
What is the motivation for the Phillies this week? I guess facing Pads as WC but they handled Cincy pretty easy this year and they will sweep that team. Even if Pads got a W today the Braves had a good chance of winning at least 2. Intensity of last week in Philly isn’t going to come close and the Ted is going to be rockin.
Ells had a terrible year so he might be available. he has been kinda inconsistant in his OBP ability the last few years. He’d be a better leadoff hitter if he walked more IMO.
I’m going to be so pissed off if Dish cuts ties with FSS FSN and FX tonight. My son has a football game Saturday so I cant make it to the game. If they don’t get a deal done there will be a bunch of Braves Fans pissed off this weekend when we miss the Bobby Ceremony and the Clinching game.

We have a legitimate shot of knocking off the Giants. Going to take something special offensively someway, somehow but we can also shut them down. Funny I bet that Sanchez gets the call before Zito if they advance. Unfortunately for us we can handle Sanchez, Zito deals against us unlike the rest of the league. Love to see a Brave-Phil NLCS. Does anybody really think the Phillies won’t win the pennant though? They are better than anybody in the NL and will be back in the series unfortunately.
Wait…so Dish might cut ties with the Braves’ channels? Holy crud! We don;t have Dish, but all you people that do…that is REALLY…oh man, that’s just not cool at ALL.

Philly has a swagger that no team in the NL comes close to. Oswalt has surprised me, he’s been like Orel with LA in the playoffs back in the day. The guy is just dealing and that should continue. The back breaking game is when Lee hit the GS beating the Mets and Philly scored 4 in the 9th to beat the Nats. No outs recorded that inning, just a collective team confidence. That day unfortunately I just focused on WC. Nothing guaranteed though I guess.

mostly because they were without a lot of good players for a good while. maybe not as good as this month, but Best team in the NL by a fair margin when healthy.
Obviously the Phillies are the favorites for the NL title and for the WS crown. But, what gives me hope is the D’backs, the Cards, the White Sox and the Marlins of the past 10 years.

I can see it now though, we get into the post season, but don’t have quite enough, and about 15% on the blog go nuts about us not having this or that and that FW should be fired and we should blow it up and start over again. Ok You Guys I’m Gonna Do My head of the Class Posts here in a few days….
I want the Bloggers on here to give me some input as to Grade Each Braves Player’s/Coaches/Manager’s Performance on the Team (The Guys Who have been on the Rooster for at least 15-20 games)
The Final Draft will be done after we lose in the First Round…
Most everyone on my list gets a B- or above with about 7 exceptions
it’s all a crap shoot in the post season as it is in any short series. anybody who has watched 50 or 60 of them has seen just about every possible combination.
1997 Cleveland and Baltimore were both rated better than the Braves
shyte happens thats the real core of any small series
Tomahawkin–Wren/Bobby better both get A’s. Wren’s done a helluva job to get this team to the point where they can compete without Jurrjens, Medlen, Chipper and Prado. Bobby’s done a good job managing overall, especially with the injuries and our relapsing inability to hit.

Not to say these guys are available, but I see the Braves going after Ryan Braun first in LF.
Fall back option may be Willingham
In CF- the Braves will look to Chris Young, Matt Kemp, and Jacoby Ellsbury with Franklin gutierrez another option.
Jurrjens and Delgado will be prime trade chips. I am sure teams will ask about Beachy and Minor as well.

Don’t feel to bad for the Pads. They get some bats that team is going to be dangerous next year and beyond. Their staff and pen is outstanding.

I love the Braves but they are at least 2-3 years away from being a serious contender.

Brave4life – If they get in, they will lose in the first round more than likely.
