so does this cause the Phils to go all out for the sweep?
nolie, I really don’t think the Braves have much financial flexibility this offseason. So I think they need to do what they can to get out of either Kawakami or McLouth’s contracts. I think Kawakami is probably their preference given their lack of outfield talent…..or even warm bodies for center or left.
ok, hopefully the Braves win tomorrow and Saturday while the padres also win tomorrow
Steve from OH
September 30th, 20109:52 pm
Wow. Great break there. Cubs comin’ thru for us…who woulda guessed it?
September 30th, 20109:53 pm
good points Ef, I agree
Did I hear that MLB Network would have the Bobby ceremony live Saturday? Does anybody know?
@bravofan, that’s what it’s looking like. but, if the braves win tomorrow night, will they stay to the wee hours of the night to see if they can pop some champagne in their clubhouse.
September 30th, 20109:54 pm
Yes! Bring it on!
September 30th, 20109:55 pm
Efrim–even if the Braves had a lot of flexibility financially, what big name is out there for them? Werth, maybe, but is he worth a long-term deal? If anything, they’ll try to cash in some of their minor league chips for a controllable player.
And I doubt Kawakami is going anywhere but the waiver wire…
September 30th, 20109:56 pm
@nolie, if anything, the braves need to show philly they can play with them. they need to sweep philly !
Ray Parker Jr.
Really? Out of all the Bobby Cox pictures the AJC uses one where he might be picking his nose? Cmon guys!
September 30th, 20109:57 pm
noleeeee – Im pretty sure that was the Phils plan from the start.
September 30th, 20109:58 pm
I don’t know if it will be, but I think it should be a Giants or Phils title
@RazorbackRed, sport south will have the ceremony before the game saturday.
Not to say these guys are available, but I see the Braves going after Ryan Braun first in LF.
Fall back option may be Willingham
In CF- the Braves will look to Chris Young, Matt Kemp, and Jacoby Ellsbury with Franklin gutierrez another option.
Jurrjens and Delgado will be prime trade chips. I am sure teams will ask about Beachy and Minor as well.
September 30th, 20109:59 pm
Dang! Braves have not even cliched and already websites are saying how we will be ousted.
could be Ray, I thought the might rest some guys a bit
Cubs comin’ thru for us…who woulda guessed it?
Glad they did, cause it would of been some awful luck if the Giants and Padres went 4-0 after that Lowe win yesterday afternoon….
Braves have a pretty good shot of sweeping the Phils. One win will do it, Pads have no chance of sweeping that series. Philly loving the fact playing Cincy.
September 30th, 201010:00 pm
I’m pretty sure that’s what Bobby will be doing in his statue that will be erected outside TF.
I vote Willingham for LF.
they can pass on Young, guy is strictly a ‘zona hitter
September 30th, 201010:01 pm
Watched da game on gameday via blackberry. My electricity went out fml
September 30th, 201010:02 pm
Braves have a pretty good shot of sweeping the Phils.
not in my book they don’t, but even two would be a good way to end the season. I figure one is most likely
September 30th, 201010:03 pm
Steve, good point. They’ll probably get a player whose salary is around 3-5 million anyway, but I really want a good right handed reliever as well. I think a guy like Putz would be a great fit. And I’m not sure if you saw my last point, but it would be nice to get a backup right handed hitting first baseman too…just in case Freddie has troubles with the lefties.
with the Braves looking like they are headed for the playoffs, it will not cause the Phills to try to go for the sweep. The Phillies would love to sweep the Braves and keep them from the playoffs but they will not do anything to wear out their team for the playoffs. They also will not want the Braves to get even more looks at their regular pitchers or field players in case we meet up in the NLCS.
September 30th, 201010:04 pm
ok gang…………now id say we are in.
2 our magic number with 6 games to go……….that shouldnt be so hard
We are home they are away.
noleee – I agree. Great defender and right handed bat with some pop but all the big, big numbers in ‘zona. I would love to see Ellsbury and Willingham both along with Heyward. That is a strong OF.
September 30th, 201010:06 pm
Efrim–that would be a good idea…but I would kinda like to see Hinske back too, if possible. Dude’s intense. I love it.
A realistic target. Just not sure if the Nats will want to deal him if Dunn signs elsewhere. They need to keep some fans in the park next year with Stras hurt…
September 30th, 201010:07 pm
What is the motivation for the Phillies this week? I guess facing Pads as WC but they handled Cincy pretty easy this year and they will sweep that team. Even if Pads got a W today the Braves had a good chance of winning at least 2. Intensity of last week in Philly isn’t going to come close and the Ted is going to be rockin.
If the Braves and S.D.have a playoff game .It may be the longest in history.
So how’s the blog been these last few weeks, anyway? I’m betting pretty crazy…
September 30th, 201010:08 pm
Ells had a terrible year so he might be available. he has been kinda inconsistant in his OBP ability the last few years. He’d be a better leadoff hitter if he walked more IMO.
September 30th, 201010:09 pm
you’d win that bet Steve.
September 30th, 201010:11 pm
I’m going to be so pissed off if Dish cuts ties with FSS FSN and FX tonight. My son has a football game Saturday so I cant make it to the game. If they don’t get a deal done there will be a bunch of Braves Fans pissed off this weekend when we miss the Bobby Ceremony and the Clinching game.
6th in all baseball in wins so far. very good year especially considering all the problems they have had
September 30th, 201010:12 pm
I’ve got my Chicago “boys” in the house bumping like Hell Yeah!!
Couldn’t see my laptop that I think was hidden so I could not blog or I just couldn’t see it until now.
GLORY GLORY GLORY, thank you CUBBIES, thank you.
You would think these guys just won the pennant the way they are celebrating. Since they moved here many years ago and are Braves fan the fact that the Cubs came in and saved the day is like pandomonium.
One thing that is a fact once a Cub fan always a Cub fan. I am elated and walking around looking for a laptop and hollering Yes Yes Yes
We have a legitimate shot of knocking off the Giants. Going to take something special offensively someway, somehow but we can also shut them down. Funny I bet that Sanchez gets the call before Zito if they advance. Unfortunately for us we can handle Sanchez, Zito deals against us unlike the rest of the league. Love to see a Brave-Phil NLCS. Does anybody really think the Phillies won’t win the pennant though? They are better than anybody in the NL and will be back in the series unfortunately.
September 30th, 201010:14 pm
I think they are the best, but that doesn’t always mean a win in baseball.having said that I think they will win the NL.
How many of you guys will hate the Braves again if Philly sweeps? ha ha!
Coach (2011 or Bust)
Two games up in the wild card with three to play. Great odds.
But remember, we lost the division and the wild card is ours to lose.
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
September 30th, 201010:15 pm
Wait…so Dish might cut ties with the Braves’ channels? Holy crud! We don;t have Dish, but all you people that do…that is REALLY…oh man, that’s just not cool at ALL.
Pigs…why are they thinking of cutting you off??
September 30th, 201010:19 pm
Thanks Dumbfound, however I knew that already and was just wondering if anyone else had heard that MLB Network would carry it as well because I could have sworn I had heard that. I appreciate the info though.
Philly has a swagger that no team in the NL comes close to. Oswalt has surprised me, he’s been like Orel with LA in the playoffs back in the day. The guy is just dealing and that should continue. The back breaking game is when Lee hit the GS beating the Mets and Philly scored 4 in the 9th to beat the Nats. No outs recorded that inning, just a collective team confidence. That day unfortunately I just focused on WC. Nothing guaranteed though I guess.
September 30th, 201010:20 pm
McFann, what you talking about wiht the Dish thingie.?
September 30th, 201010:22 pm
Yeah….1st they don’t carry MLB network now there messing with my Braves and Hawks channels. Not to mention I’ll be missing my some of my fav shows on FX. ITs BS!!!!!
September 30th, 201010:24 pm
This is what were talking about with Dish
September 30th, 201010:28 pm
the best team doesn’t win all the time. just ask the 1996, 1997 and 1998 braves team.
September 30th, 201010:30 pm
I guess I better be talking with my Direct TV guy. Too easy to swap to put up with this.
September 30th, 201010:31 pm
How was The Game Yesterday/ give me details…?
September 30th, 201010:32 pm
The Phils have been awesome . . . for a month. Other than that, slightly better than mediocre. I don’t believe they are nearly as good as they’ve played lately, no team is.
September 30th, 201010:33 pm
It’s not the week we all wanted looking at the schedule 6 weeks ago, but a pretty damn satisfying week nonetheless. San Diego hasn’t been the same team since sweeping the Cubbies in Chicago 4 games in August. That might have helped this week. 2 1/2 game swing in 4 days, pretty sweet.
Pads just have to win 2 against Giants to force a tiebreaker and ultimately get in. Braves will get swept by Philly.
September 30th, 201010:34 pm
Or Pads sweep Giants and get in by one game.
Real easy to swap unless you’re under contract. $200+ to get out.
Hopefully its one of those last minute deals. If not Ill we’ll miss games this weekend Direct cant get out that quick to set it up.
September 30th, 201010:35 pm
Nick, you are hilarious.
September 30th, 201010:36 pm
That is preposterous!
I’m pretty sure my Grandparents have Dish…Grandpa will be so crushed if he has to miss the Bobby tribute!!
CraZyTRaDeMaN, agree some situations don’t work out so well. I’m ok, but this weekend I would have to watch somewhere else.
September 30th, 201010:37 pm
I really wish you would just shut up. You are so negative maybe I should borrow you a hollow point.
I’m sure that tribute to BC will be shown a lot on SS.
September 30th, 201010:38 pm
McPameeeeeeeward, what did I say?
don’t even comment on the ignorance of some people. just ignore it !
just ask the 1996, 1997 and 1998 braves team.
I would but they weren’t the best team all those years
Does Nick 2.slow dumb down to just Nick on off days?
September 30th, 201010:39 pm
Sorry, it was for the guy above you. I always think that the person I’m speaking of know who they are by definition.
September 30th, 201010:40 pm
. Other than that, slightly better than mediocre. SWGF
mostly because they were without a lot of good players for a good while. maybe not as good as this month, but Best team in the NL by a fair margin when healthy.
Oh. He’s an ignorant fool. Just laugh at him or ignore him. He obviously hasn’t a clue about baseball.
September 30th, 201010:41 pm
The Braves will not be swept and the Giant will not be swept.
Braves can’t hit Kendrick and sure as hell can’t hit Hamels. They MIGHT win the third game.
September 30th, 201010:42 pm
Thanks, I offered him my help
Wayne in Utah
Obviously the Phillies are the favorites for the NL title and for the WS crown. But, what gives me hope is the D’backs, the Cards, the White Sox and the Marlins of the past 10 years.
The best team going in doesn’t always win. Sometimes it comes down to who is hot, or as in 1979 who has the mojo!
September 30th, 201010:43 pm
Wow! First time I’ve ever considered being thankful to have Time-Warner. Feels totally wrong.
“Best team in the NL by a fair margin when healthy.”
Noleeeee, I just can’t admit it. Healthy and hot, yes. Just healthy, and I believe it’s a horse race with the Braves, if they are healthy. There is a remote possibility that I am biased.
Is can’t a major part of your life? I was taught and lived by there is not such thing as can’t. Actually, I am living proof that can’t is not an option.
Brave4life- We almost had it
During the 3rd inning of the Padres/Cubs game my electricity went out and it just came back. Better now than tomorrow
September 30th, 201010:45 pm
SoWeGa I’m sure that tribute to BC will be shown a lot on SS.
Oh yeah. I was joking about Grandpa—he’s not much of a Cox fan. (A big part of it, though, is he likes to tease Mommy because she likes Bobby a lot.)
who was better nolieee ?!? 1996 yankees ?!? 1997 marlins ?!? 1998 padres ?!? come on now ?!?
Sometimes it comes down to who is hot,
Wayne, I believe that is always the case. Or, if the opposing team is cold. The playoffs are typically a crapshoot.
You gotta feel bad for the Padres fans tonight though.
I can see it now though, we get into the post season, but don’t have quite enough, and about 15% on the blog go nuts about us not having this or that and that FW should be fired and we should blow it up and start over again. Simply unacceptable not to sweep every series from this time forward! And each game by at least a 10-0 score, if not more!!
September 30th, 201010:47 pm
McPameeeeeeeward, my old pappy always told me “Can’t never did anything” and I believe that. Negative attitudes create losers.
September 30th, 201010:48 pm
In 2007 the Rockies went in as hot as any team in recent history, but ran into a real juggernaut in the Red Sox. Sometimes even being hot is not enough, but oft times it is.
That’s why a sweep or at least a strong 2-1 series would be darned helpful this weekend.
Yeah, Pads don’t get in after their season and it’s a shame. I wish they would beat out the Gents.
September 30th, 201010:50 pm
What year did the Rockies have that 8-9 day layoff til the playoffs started?
I’m anxious to see all the players come in for the celebration. There has to be 100s of them. When you look at the career of Bobby Cox the one thing everybody agree on is that he is players manager.
Just a thought that it was because he treated people so fairly that he was rewarded in his tenure with great things. He does not have to leave with all types of bad karma on his back. I took a large part of my daily operations from Cox.
September 30th, 201010:52 pm
Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia
How was it??? I missed it
September 30th, 201010:53 pm
Hey, maybe I made an offer and he is thinking about it
September 30th, 201010:54 pm
Busted! Reds reported after smoking victory cigars in clubhouse
September 30th, 201010:55 pm
Don’t feel to bad for the Pads. They get some bats that team is going to be dangerous next year and beyond. Their staff and pen is outstanding.
September 30th, 201010:56 pm
I love the Braves but they are at least 2-3 years away from being a serious contender.
September 30th, 201010:58 pm
Yeah it takes about 2-3 years of therapy to be healed propely, also.
making the playoffs makes them a serious playoff contender
Ok You Guys I’m Gonna Do My head of the Class Posts here in a few days….
I want the Bloggers on here to give me some input as to Grade Each Braves Player’s/Coaches/Manager’s Performance on the Team (The Guys Who have been on the Rooster for at least 15-20 games)
The Final Draft will be done after we lose in the First Round…
Most everyone on my list gets a B- or above with about 7 exceptions
September 30th, 201011:00 pm
it’s all a crap shoot in the post season as it is in any short series. anybody who has watched 50 or 60 of them has seen just about every possible combination.
1997 Cleveland and Baltimore were both rated better than the Braves
shyte happens thats the real core of any small series
September 30th, 201011:01 pm
Cock a doodle dooo!
September 30th, 201011:02 pm
Tomahawkin–Wren/Bobby better both get A’s. Wren’s done a helluva job to get this team to the point where they can compete without Jurrjens, Medlen, Chipper and Prado. Bobby’s done a good job managing overall, especially with the injuries and our relapsing inability to hit.
September 30th, 201011:03 pm
Brave4life – If they get in, they will lose in the first round more than likely.
September 30th, 201011:04 pm
i was talking about the braves in those years as to being the best in the national league. not the whole league !
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
