That’s why we acquired Gonzalez and Ankiel.

nothing I have ever said on here was not true. replacing others hurt with Ankiel and Gonzalez both of whom are terrible onbase guys, helped totally wreck the offense

I think guys like Mac, Prado, Heyward, etc having a drop off in September hasn’t helped either… Wayne

of course it hurt but we were already feeling the effects of losing ort on base edge b4 that happened.

then I’d sign him no matter what. He’s a gamer, not a bad character guy, and in his prime, still only 29.

Crawford will likely be way overpaid for what he brings to the table the next 5-6 years and will soon reach the age when many players who depend heavily on their legs start to lose some usefulness without PEDS. Certainly would not pay anything like 6 years/90+ mil for him and that might be what it takes

What about Jason Werth..? Could the Braves sign him and put him in left…?

I’ve been saying for a while now that I’d like to see Werth in a Braves uni next year. Of course, my preference would be to see them unload Nate somehow and slot Werth in the CF spot, but LF would work too. Whether they go after Werth or not, I just hope they dig deep and invest in a long-term OF’er that can provide some legitimate power.

what would you like broken? Your head already is.
Gonzo’s OBP with the Braves is 325.lower than Escobrats(either here or especially in Toronto), which lowered the team OBP some which is what I said. not all that hard to follow without a bunch of emotionalism thrown in. Not a lot of difference in that case, but some..

Carl Crawford won’t be coming to Atlanta and I’ll explain why. It has everything to do with McCann, McLouth, Heyward and Freeman batting left handed, who are all expected to be everyday players in 2011. Crawford hits lefty too which would contribute to an already unbalanced line up.

Everybody knows that Frank Wren will be looking for a big right handed bat again to replace Troy Glaus/Derrek Lee. Who said player will be is anybody’s guess.

Frankie Wren

Ok Einstein,

Always with the stats. Lets see, Crawford who everybody wants had a OBP of .317 when Tampa went to the series in 08. Probably the one of the bigger reasons of the teams success. Lets see, Jimmy Rollins had a .OBP of .295 last year stat man. He had a difficult year but the guy is a leader and look at the Won-Loss record of the Phils when he is out of the lineup. They had success this September but it’s closer to .500 record when he is out and substantially over .500 when he is playing. Big hits and big times is what Gonzalez will give you. He’s not a great hitter but lets see your boy in Toronto measure up career stats as good as his before his career is done.

Let me guess, your probably a huge Kelly J fan too I am sure. KJ who goes crazy in September like 08 and this year when their team is 30 games below .500. Impact player these guys are.

Coach (2011 or Bust)

September 30th, 2010
8:57 pm

Efrim, ditto that.

Wren’s check list so far….

1. New Manager

2. Big right handed bat, preferably in LF.

3. Speedy lead off hitter. I mean, Omar can hit but he’s not a true lead off guy.

4. Try to trade Kawakami. It’s still possible folks. All Wren has to do is find another team with player (outfielder) and contract they are willing to dump, and arrange a swap. I can think of two off hand. The Angels Juan Rivera and the Cubs Marlon Byrd.

It will probably have more to do with the fact that Boston and the Angels are ready to go “wallet-to wallet” for Crawford. No way the Braves can be a player in that bidding war.

FEAR…. true I agree better safe than sorry…but even if the Cubs lose and Padres win. There is still a way for the Braves to win zero games against the Phillies and still win the WC outright.

If the Padres win tonight, and the Giants sweep them in the final series. If that happens and the Braves win no games against the Phillies the Braves record would be 90-72 (win WC), Padres 89-73 (lose WC), Giants 94-68 (win NL West).

Speaking of Werth, I think the thing that bugs me the most is the fact that the Phils were within a few days of dealing him away so that they’d get something for him before he became a free agent. Then they started winning an will probably be in the World Series, or be the winner of the World Series and then they’ll get some team’s 1st round draft choice as compensation for signing Werth. I hate it that Philadelphia is gonna come out smelling like a rose in this.

The Angels Juan Rivera and the Cubs Marlon Byrd – Coach (2011 or Bust)

Sorry Coach, but I don’t see the Cubs getting rid of Byrd. Living in IL I watch a lot of Cubs games (my wife’s fav team) and Byrd has been just about the only bright spot on that team this year.

KK for him would be too lopsided. I really don’t see the Cubs listening to any reasonable offers for him.

Just my opinion.

You got off the subject as well sir with additional comments as how they wrecked the offense. Little too far there in my opinion. Keeping on subject how these guys aren’t strong .OBP I would agree with you. You have been pretty adament about the midseason trade and disapproval and that comes out in your thoughts. I was a little harsh, my bad. I don’t think AGon is a strong offensive weapon either and I would really like him down in the order as far as 8th next year if possible. The guy looks foolish on many at bat but has delivered clutch hits(not even talking walk off HR’s) and I fully support this current team.

On second thought, the Cubbies can keep Marlon Byrd. He had one decent season in 2009 and while Byrd has hit .296 this season, his 12 HR’s and 63 RBI are pedestrian at best.

What is even more frustrating this month is that you had a guy who at the time was probably leading the league in .OBP this month. Heyward up into 10 days ago had .500 OBP and scored at that time 8 RUNS. Martin and B Mac are as much to blame for this month as anybody. It was really disappointing watching Heyward get on base constantly only to hand off his gloves to Hubbard walking out to RF.

I just don’t see a team taking McLouth or Kenshin unless the Braves take half of their contracts…at least. I could be wrong. I think leadoff hitter is going to have to wait because of that, as well as a lack of financial flexibility. Big bat in LF, right handed relief pitcher, right handed hitting first baseman are tops on my list. Trading away Kenshin and McLouth is up there too, but like I said…

nolie, I think it’s worth bringing in a backup right handed hitting first baseman just in case the kid struggles with the idea that Freddie would get all PA’s against righties and half against lefties. I just think he is still really young and the Braves need to make sure they have a backup plan.

I agree on McLouth, but if they can get someone to take his contract, they should certainly consider it.
