Who: vs. Marlins
When: 4:35 p.m. Wednesday
TV; radio: SPSO; 680 AM, 100.5 FM
Wednesday’s matchup: Braves RH Derek Lowe (15-12, 4.07 ERA) vs. LH Andrew Miller (1-4, 8.19).
– Lowe is 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA in four starts since missing a rotation turn for a bone chip in his elbow. He’ll be working on three days’ rest instead of the usual four. Lowe is 2-1 with a 5.09 ERA in four career regular-season starts on short rest. Against the Marlins, he’s 1-0 despite an 8.57 ERA in five starts over the past two seasons. Hanley Ramirez is 14-for-26 with a homer against him, and Dan Uggla is 12-for-28 with two homers.
– Miller is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA in seven games (four starts) vs. the Braves, including a Sept. 3 win. In four starts since that game, he’s 0-4 with a 12.89 ERA and .443 opponents’ average, with a staggering 31 hits, 21 earned runs and 12 walks allowed in 14-2/3 innings. Eric Hinske is 2-for-2 with a homer against him, and Matt Diaz is 4-for-12 with a homer.

Big win tonight……. we really need a loss from San Diego so we can exhale a little bit. Hopefully Derek continues his recent pitching dominance tomorrow. A sweep would be HUGE for us!!! That would leave 3 at home against a Phillies team that will be playing conservatively… Go Braves!

Gotta give Glaus the start tomorrow against the lefty, Conrad does not hit lefties very well. I think a start would give Glaus some much needed playing time, and some AB’s.

Braves are hanging tough… though without Prado we’ll need a Cinderella run from here on out… was Conrad wearing a glass slipper tonight?

DLowe takes a lot of abuse.
Compare him to the other available free agent pitcher that “got away”.
Last two years with Yankees
AJ Burnett
23 – 24
4.64 ERA
387.2 IP
Makes $16.5 Million through 2013
DLowe
30 – 22
4.37 ERA
382.2 IP
Makes $15 Million through 2012
Some might argue that AJ pitches for a better team.
I’m not saying I agree – but some might say that.
I think we got the better pitcher.

I’ve been hard on Wren, but I always liked Lowe. He has stepped it up in September and will prove invaluable if the Braves are playoff bound.

In order to make the playoffs, we must play the guys who are hitting. Conrad, Henske and Diaz hit, Melky, Nate and Rick don’t. And Cox needs to bunt more runners over to 2nd because we are not scoring hardly at all. Can’t believe how many DPs I’ve seen over the past 5 games or so from the braves.

I’m not worried about D-Lowe; I’m worried about Andrew Miller and why the Braves can’t hit this bum.
The stats don’t lie.

Does it mean Hinske will start at first and Diaz in the left? I doubt considering Cox has gone for the best defensive team lately.

I know this sounds really dumb but I’ve gotten completely confused. Do we have a Magic Number or do we have to win every game that’s left? I really DO pay attention but I was counting on us winning the East.
Thanks!

Two words for Cox who no doubt is in full blown dimensia ….. MIKE DIAZ. We score 4 runs in 20 innings while Ankiel flails away harmlessly at the ball. Meanwhile, Diaz hasn’t seen a pitch. Someone on the inside has to come up with the story that explains what Diaz ever did to be on Cox’s $*#@ list. If Diaz were playing for the Red Sox, Yanks, or any other team with a lucid manager he’d be a league leader in batting average, RBI’s, runs scored. The guy is a gamer except for the fact that he doesn’t see the field in Atlanta due to the fog that exists in the great expanse between the ears of our soon to be gone leader.

Was thinking about this as i was watching the game last night. Now that Prado is out for good I am a little unsure of what the 25-man postseason roster is going to look like.
I think that you take:
Pitchers:
DLowe, Huddy, Tommy, Beachy
Wags, Moylan, EOF,Johhny V,Dunn, Kimbrel, Farnsy
OF:
Nate, melky, Hinske, J-Hey, Ankiel
Infield
Conrad, Gonzo, Omar, DLee, Diory, Glaus, Freeman
Catcher:
McCann, DRoss
I think you have to keep Diory because he is the only other player that can play SS

I agree – I’ll never be able to understand why Matt Diaz doesn’t get more playing time.

David, who is going to get the start at 3rd today? If the Braves make the playoffs who is going to be left out on the roster?
