BOBBY COX
On the four-run inning against Hudson
“Yeah, the pitcher got him for base hit and the ninth-place guy. Huddy’s ball was running over the plate tonight. It moves so much, sometimes it gets back in the middle, and that’s what happened to him.”
On nine hits against Lohse, including four doubles
“We couldn’t hit the ball any harder tonight. Geez, to [only] get three runs – it seemed like we scored six or seven, but we didn’t.”
On McLouth
“Nate’s on fire. He’s really swinging. Really swinging the bat. We swung the bats good. Just inches away from doubles and homers.
More on Hudson
“He had stuff tonight, it just kept running back in.”
On it possibly being his last game managing vs. La Russa
“I like Tony a lot. I’ve been going at it with Tony for a long, long time.”
On Pujols’ two homers
“We got balls that ran right over the plate for him. The first one was right down the middle, started away and boom [over the middle].”
MARTIN PRADO
“It’s not frustrating. We’re playing against a pretty good team. There’s nothing frustrating about it. We’re just going to start over tomorrow, another winning streak.”
On hitting a lot of balls hard at people tonight
“That’s all you can do, hit the ball hard. We’re not going to make excuses about today. It’s one of those things. You’ve got to forget about it, come back and start over again tomorrow.”
DERREK LEE
“You always want to win the series, especially at home. You look to win the series. But that’s a good team over there. They played us pretty well this series.”
Is it frustrating, going back and forth with Philly in standings
“Not at all. We know it’s going to be close. That’s just how it’s going to be. So we’re not frustrated at all. We’ll come back out ready to go tomorrow, win a series and go have a good road trip.”
On his performance lately
“I feel a lot better at the plate lately. Tonight wasn’t a good night, but I’m feeling like I’m seeing the ball and ready to put a good swing on it.”
On Lohse
“He did what he does. He throws that sinker to both sides of the plate, mixes in that slider and changeup off of it. He pitches to contact. We hit some balls hard. That’s what he wants you to do. He wants you to hit the ball and make you keep it on the ground.”
On his strikeout to end the third inning with two on
“I got overaggressive in that situation, instead of sticking with my approach. I out-thunk myself basically. That’s what upsets you, when you get out of your gameplan.”
TIM HUDSON
“I didn’t locate some pitches and they made me pay for it, especially in that fifth inning.”
“With Albert, the first homer was just a sinker that was down, but it caught too much of the plate. The second homer was a sinker that I tried to get down and in. It was not in as much as I wanted it and it was up more than I wanted.
“They took advantage of some pitches in some situations, and they had some breaks go their way to get in position to score some runs. And I just didn’t make pitches whenever I needed to after that.”
On his recent performance including three-star losing streak
“I feel fine. Tonight was really the only game in the last few that I felt like I really wasn’t in a rhythm, from start to finish. Some other games it seemed like it was one inning that would kind of get me. But I feel fine. Just got to make better pitches.”
“Everything feels fine. My location just hasn’t been as good. Tonight was a struggle from the start.”
“It just wasn’t a real good night for me.”

Our starting pitchers haven’t looked sharp of late. They need to step it up.
I wonder if Glaus should get a chance to contribute more. He should be healthier with all the time off he’s had lately.

Rickman grow a pair and support the game until the season is over 1 back 1 up 10 back 10 up doestn matter. Fact is their up 1 in the wildcard and down 1 in the division. Ask any guy in the clubhouse for that position and he would jump on it. Be happy they havent played great the last 2 weeks and still would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. The Braves have a nice lineup with a stellar bullpen and a good enough rotation to keep them in games. D-Lowe stat wise doesnt amaze anyone but he is one of those guys that SHOWS UP FOR BIG GAMES. He has done it down the stretch for the Redsox and Dodgers. Having him, JJ, Hanson, and Huddy who WILL bounce back really give me confidence that this team will not only make the playoffs but take Philly down on the way to October. D-Lowe wins and shuts down DC tomorrow JJ gets back on track and Minor will be good and continue to pitch like he has a horse shoe up his…. So keep the faith and dont be that typical fan who jumps on the bandwagon in October.

The only positive thing, they tied the series. And other than that, it was a dismal and forgetable weekend for GA sports. The Birds, UGA, Tech, both GSU’s – North/South and then the Dream all fell, eventhough the Dream were the only ones fighting.
Man i love my GA sports teams and will support them faithfully, but U just have to wonder sometimes. Pitching has gotten us this far this season and now we dont have that insurance anymore.
The Braves are now looking over their shoulders at the Giants and Rockies(seems like its always their time of year) for the wildcard. And with they way they are playing, i really dont see them making the playofffs.

After looking at the schedule I think the Phillies will win 11 more games and the Braves will win 10 games. Phillies will take the division by 2 games. Padres and giants will win 12 more games with Padres winning NL west and giants the wild card. Braves will miss the playoffs by one game.
That game in Colorado and the blown saves in middle of the season will cost the Braves a chance to play in the playoffs.
I hope that is not the case but I just do not see the Braves in the playoffs.

Bobby Cox has got to change his lineup. Lightning must be caught in a bottle with McLouth’s current hot streak and Heyward’s bat is too hot right now to be batting second. You’re never going to ask Heyward to bunt, nor is he going to steal a lot. He needs all the RBI chances he can get. Derrek Lee is a black hole in the lineup. Whenever he does produce, it’s nothing but singles. He has only one home run, which was a hideously hung curveball by Wainwright.
I’d say give McLouth his lead-off spot back and move everyone down a notch. Or maybe keep Infante lead-off, plug McLouth in at #2, and knock everyone down. Maybe flip-flop Lee and Gonzalez.
Something must change because the current structure is only good enough to play .500. And with the Phillies and Rockies refusing to lose, the Braves can’t afford to go 9-9 in the last 18 games.
And another thing: just let Matt Diaz and Eric Hinske play LF the rest of the way. Melky is going ice cold at the wrong time and the Braves don’t have enough games left to let him come out of it.

Don’t waste your time or breath.. The line up is not going to change. Won’t move Jason… Cox: “don’t want to put too much pressure on the kid” Well hasn’t the “kid” shown that he is a true professional and handles pressure well? Glaus should be playing.. Lee needs to sit out a few games, he hasn’t given the braves the “power” life they needed. Why not give Freeman a start or two? Seems like there is more pressure taking the kid off the bench “cold” and letting him pitch hit. Let Freeman play.. Let him gain sosme experience. He could really help the team finish strong.

Wow, some say the Braves are toast and yet they have the 2nd best record in the NL and are only one game back from the top spot.
Baseball has 162 games people, you can’t win them all. We shouldn’t have beaten Carpenter, but we did. Hudson should have won last night, but he didn’t – it’s baseball. Lohse was hittable last night and they scalded some balls, just didn’t find any holes – again it happens. The Braves will be fine.

No justification for starting a slumping Derrek Lee every night. He has been a big bust. It is time to see if Freeman can help this team out. The logic must be that only SOME rookies can handle the pressure (B.Posey,Heyward,etc.) and SOME can’t (Freeman). All are rookies. Why treat Freeman like a glass vase ?

Melky brings nothing to this team. Derrek Lee is a washed up has-been. Hudson doesn’t pitch very smart. Albert has always killed him, so (dummy) pitch around the guy that has yoiur number. Both HR’s were solo shots…nobody on ahead of him, so walk the guy if you have to. Use your head
.
Put ANYBODY in D-Losers spot. he has done almost nothing since coming to Atlanta. Put Heyward in a 3-4-5 spot and let him drive in some runs. We are lousy with RISP, 3-4-5. You pay those guys to drive in runs. Lee is wprthless, McCann is sub-par (defensively too), and Prado isn’t what he used to be,
I’m glad they say that they aren’t frustrated. Maybe they aren’t bright enough to be frustrated, when they are (and will) spit out their playoff chances in September.
What a bunch of clowns. It will be fun to read their comments when this is all over, and they have spit it out. They might be a little disappointed, , but they’ll still have confidence, and they won’t be FRUSTRATED.

Never let the opposing team’s best player beat you. Would have been better to pitch around Pujols, but we challenge him. Braves will do the same thing with Philly first basemen. Walk him. Kimbrel showed he can challenge him, but the Braves starters cannot.

Whatever happens for the rest of the season, McCann needs to improve his defense. He is one of the best offensive catchers in the game, but his defensive technique is very poor. The Braves need to get their best catching instructor to work with him over the winter.

I don’t need to read the comments, I’m sure it’s the usual hat tipping, balls hit hard, pitches not quite where I wanted em, lines that we constantly hear after losses. For once I would like to hear, we played like absolute crap on a night when we should have buried them.I don’t think I have said the F word that may times in my life during a baseball game…I know, take a pill, chill out, whatever. All I know is that was about the most uninpsired effort it could be, on a night when we needed to keep pace with those ahead of us and those chasing us, who already took care of their business earlier in the day. Other than Alex, Jason, and Nate…the rest just made an appearance. From Infante’s opening boot, to McCann’s passed ball, to Huddy not keeping the one guy in the park you have to, it was evident in the first inning that the mental focus was adrift. Then add to that, Derrick’s rally killing, Melk Dud’s pathetic apperances, Nate getting robbed again, (wow he finally hits one far enough that they can’t go over the fence and get it), Huddy not keeping the one guy in the park AGAIN, oh and as usual making a 2-7 pitcher with an ERA over 7, look like another Cy Young candidate. No streaks from this team, a little momentum after luckily winning two games, with our best pitcher on the hill, their worst one, ESPN Sunday night game…and we give another lackluster performance while all the other leaders and chasers go 7-3 or even 10-0 over their last ten. Well…glad I got that rant out early so I can move on to the next series. Oh that’s right…the mighty Nationals…keep the pin cushion handy…and this might be the end of that thread that’s been barely holding.

Roseman – Cox has no credibility when he comments on the game – he offers little insight or honest appraisal, just pleasant platitudes and gee-whiz amusement that they were beaten.
Everyone has “good stuff” or “it just didn’t fall in” or “he hit it hard” or somesuch stupidity.
This is a good example of why some 67 year old men should be at home retired and not working.
They lose interest and focus. Sort of like the Braves.

Having a tough time determining who your ace is. For a different reason having a tough time with who the Phillies ace is. With Philly you’ve got 3 to select from. With the Braves it’s looking like you’ve got none to chose from.

Amen Joey. Can you imagine what Turner Field would be like if it was represented by the same negativity of these commenters? McLouth would still get booed after his recent tear, nobody would be excited for Bobby to come argue a call, and our best pitcher would have been booed off the field despite keeping us in contention for a division title all year.
Get a grip on reality, folks. You’re following a team with a legitimate chance on finishing the season with the best record in the National League. If this team makes the playoffs, please go away because real fans don’t want you to ruin it by wondering how McLouth and Lee end up on the playoff roster.
Why didn’t Ankiel start over Cabrera RobDawg? Because neither he or Nate is a left fielder. That’s also the glaring fact that he’s 0 for his last 10 with 9 K’s. This absurd suggestion gives you no right to ever trash Bobby again.
Why isn’t Freeman starting? Maybe it’s the 1-13 and lack of experience. But who knows. And if anyone was going to go down the Glaus route, more strikeouts than hits since he got off the DL (and poor defense) isn’t in his favor. So lets go with Derrek Lee, the guy who came into last night’s game hitting over .300 on the month, who batted .386 in September of ‘09. Any dissenters?

If we want to make the playoffs are “ace” Hudson can’t have another outing like this. Really he has not pitched like a true ace in his last three starts. Hudson was having a great year but he is coming back down to earth and a true ace gets better and better especially in big time games. Last month of the season were in a playoff race and he has not delivered like a real ace should. Starting pitching has to get outta this slump asap or the braves will watch teams they’ve had a better record than for 3/4 of the season play in the playoffs. It’s a shame they’re all choking other than Heyward, wonder if guys are starting to show their true colors bc they look like abunch of choke artist really hope they’re not and can get it together.

Whoever said melky has been SOLID for 3 months is either a retard or just hasn’t watched a game in 2 months…that solid melky you talk about is 26 for his last 115 with 0 homeruns in that span that’s a .226 avg for the retards. PLEASE SOMEBODY tell me when a .226 avg with 0 homers has been considered SOLID for a everyday starting OF in the MLB???? Melky stepped up some what months back but has been a complete joke the last 40 or so games. He has a good arm but has no coverage in the outfield and kills us bc he is so slow getting to balls out there. Put in hinske or Diaz yes there not good on D but they both have the potential to hit MUCH better than melky has the last month and a half. McCann is and will likely be a solid hitter his whole career. What he won’t ever be is a good defensive player. You can’t have a fat bastard behind the plate and not expect him to wear out. He has an odd condition – he drops the tonnage over the winter and by the end of the season he’s back up to 260 or more. (I know, the program says 210 or whatever) but we all know better. Being that heavy will not allow him to continue playing catcher and his mechanics suffer as the season goes along. Call it lazy, slow, not fundamentally sound; whatever the case, he is a defensive liability.

To all you negative fans…. Were any of you alive in the 80’s? Those of you that were..did you pull for the Braves then? I have a feeling that 99% of the so called fans making these comments did not care about baseball ( or at Least the braves) until the 90’s. Bobby Cox is one of the best managers EVER. This is a good solid baseball team and right now are in 1st place in the WC. What in the he&^ are you doing trashing your own team? If you want to trah them and talk sh^% about every player and Bobby then go to one of the opposing teams website and do it. There has NEVER been an undefeated baseball team and there never will be. The Phillies have an AWESOME TEAM. They are loaded front to back. They have GREAT PITCHING and an AWESOME fan base. Braves lost their best pitcher and their franchise team leader yet are still 1 game out in their division. All critics have picked the Phillies to be in the WS again this year. They have already been back to back and they have all the same players. Did you all expect the Braves to win this division by 20 games? It sure seems like it. ROBDAWG..would you rather the Team trash each other in every quote? If they were doing that then you all would be saying that is the problem, no chemistry. The Braves will be in the playoffs and they will make some noise when they get there. I get as frustrated as anyone watching when they lose but I NEVER GIVE UP on them. You guys trashing them need to pick a different team to pull for. Root for the Phillies since they are in 1st right now then come back over after the Braves regain the lead. it seems to be what you have been doing all year anyway. You dont deserve to have a good baseball team to watch. Most of you obviously have no clue what you are bit^&*%( about in the first place. Pay attention to waht is really going on instead of feeding off each others negative comments.Take a moment and be happy that your team ( yea right) is in the playoff race at this time of the year. PULL THE BOYS THROUGH! Dont send them to death row.

Pujols hit 2 HRs. but only accounted for 2 of the Cardinal runs. The thing that killed us were the 3 straight hits after Pujols made the 2nd out in the 3rd, and especially the 2 out hits by the pitcher and the # 9 hitter.

What the season comes down to is a 5 team race for 3 playoff spots. The Braves are currently in 2nd place in that 5-team battle and will make the playoffs if they finish 3rd or higher.

I really can’t wait until we play the Phillies.. They on paper seem like a better team. so to traanslate that..we ought to take 4 out of 6. We can’t beat AAA pitchers or guys with ERA’s in the 7’s however we play well against those teams that are tough to beat. I agree Huddy wasn’t getting the ball where he wanted it..so why would we pitch to Albert? that falls on the manager. Poor decision. take the bat out of his hand set up the possible DP. I would like to see this line up… Infante, prado, McCann, jason, lee, (prefer Glaus over Lee) Gonzo, Dirt, Diaz, pitcher

Once again another 50,000 in attendance with 30,000 dressed as seats. On national TV no less. Fannys in the seats put $in Wren’s pocket which puts guys like Ryan Howard at 1st, not the has been that’s played his career at the city of perennial futility where losing is fashionable (Chicago). Has anybody noticed Howard’s 99 RBI’s and he missed 20 games due to injury and took a couple of weeks to get reacclamated from a sprained anle He’s got something like 6 homers this month and 15 RBI’s. MVP? I’m objective enough even being a Philly fan Heyward should win Rookie of Year going away. He’s frightening and also should be batting 3rd.

We don’t have a bunch of all stars on this team but we do have guys with heart. I don’t blame many of the losses on the players ( add exceptions here) however I feel the managwr is just set in his ways and he ends up getting in the way.

McCann can’t catch, can’t throw and his hitting isn’t that great lately. He still tries to catch the balls in the dirt instead of getting his big butt in front of them like all good catchers do. He just reaches out and waves at the ball as it goes by. Maybe if he lost some of that lard, he could move around a little better.

So we are one game back. This team is gonna kill it this week. Who is not fired up after Prado’s quotes? They have the swagger still and Bobby is right, if you watched the game, we really hit the tarsh*t out of some balls last night. Especially Nate, Heyward, and Prado. Infante is still a machine. 18 games left. Playoff atmosphere in Braves country. Too bad the stadium won’t be full tonight. It should be October 1,2, and 3. Go Braves.

You go, man!
And Go Braves!
Better than Huddy get his poor starts out of the way before the series vs the Phils and October.
I’m thinking positively and fully expect us to play well down the stretch and vs the Phillies when it counts. This team plays to the level of its competition usually.

You really have no class calling players names, especially when it’s Mccann and one of the nicest guys in the league. It does NOT help you make your point. Next time, please use more intelligent words rather than resorting to name-calling on a 1st class blog.

I’ve said it before, people come on here to talk sh*t about the players because either they have no life or they weren’t very good at sports.
To the Lee bashers, he’s hitting .350 over the last 7 games with more walks than strikeouts. What more do you want?
Also, most of you idoits that bashed McClouth early this season need to shut the hell up. What’s he done for you lately?
This team has had a great year and have been a lot of fun to watch. They can’t win every game so give it a rest. Try saying something positive for once in your life. Sadly, you probably only feel good when you complain and berate.

We gotta put someone other than Melky out in left, Diaz or Hinske please!! I know neither one is killing the ball lately but they have to do better than the 1 for 15 Melky has given us in the last four games.

It wasn’t Pujols who beat us last night!! It was Lohse, Ryan, and Molina that drowve in 4 runs with 2 outs. When Pujols batted against Huddy, there were 2 out and none on twice, and he led off the inning once. You don’t walk the lead off hitter in front of Halladay and Rasmus. Three times Hudson faced Pujols exactly the way one would want — bases empty! Cox had nothing to do with last night’s loss. Lack of pitching, timdly hitting, and defensive lapses were he cause. Down 3 -1 instead of 6 -1, and there would be more opportunities to manage — like having Prado bunt with 2 on and 0 out.

Ok, general, fat bastard was a little harsh, but my point is that he (like most catchers) wear down at the close of a season. In his case, I think better in-season conditioning would stave off some of his defensive woes.

18 games left 1 game out of 1st. Dose anybody remember the last couple of years when ALL we were hoping for was -Can we finish ahead of the fish or the mets. Geeze I Bit*ch and moan about the way they sometimes play, thats what we as fans do. Sometimes Brian is Lazy behind the plate by just reaching and not getting in front of the ball. Sometimes The outfielders let one get by em when they should have gotten to it (see Melky) sometimes our best pitchers pitches arent their best pitches.(See Hudson, Hanson,Minor,Lowe, Wags etc. ) Sometimes we should bunt instead of trying to move a man over and sometimes we can’t even bunt at all. Manager screws up, Players screw up. Im sure none of us have never screwed up in our jobs. Just glad my job aint on TV every night. But I AM A BRAVES FAN. and I do have the right as that fan to scream and yell and Yes cuss at them( just not on a personal level). These are my Guys. These are my Braves and if you fillies fans dont like it then go back to fillies blogettes…… We will make the playoffs…. I will cuss and yell.. We are 1 out of 1st with 18 to play …… Anybody remember that???? Go Braves. swat the nats then go play the best 9 game road series’ of your life……. Then when its all said and done on Oct 02.. it will not all be said and done….. THIS IS BRAVES COUNTRY! If you dont like it leave it!

All you haters and doubters are UNBELIEVABLE!!! This team played their tails off the last three games of this series. They looked awesome, even the last game they were pounding the ball. I think they will make the playoffs, they will take the division and they will win the NLCS. This team has ballz and they showed it this weekend. St Louis is a good team and a couple of our starting pitchers had bad outings. I think they’ll definitely bounce back from this loss against the Nats and go from there as they have been all year. A week ago I wouldn’t have made the prediction that they’d win the division but man did this team show a lot this weekend. They turned it on in a big way and I hope they make the playoffs cause they completely deserve to. Look at it this way, last year they had 86 wins, this year they already have 82, I think it’s safe to say they will be a 90 win team and not for nothing, playoffs or not, that’s a pretty good year. In some division that would get you into the playoffs.

No one hits the ball harder than Jason.. most of his infield hits are hard to handle and are bobbled a lot of the times. He should be hitting in McCann’s slot. With runners on, he has the edge over Mc Cann, faster to the base etc.

Tater how could you possibly call this team mediocre? They have the second best record in the NL to the Phillies, who by all you haters account, are going to crush the Braves and the fifth best record in the majors. In three our of the 6 divisions in the majors they’d be the outright first place team. I think you’re confused about the definition of mediocre.

To Tater the Bobby Hater :If you are betterb than Bobby ( which would make you the 4th best manger ever in MLB) then you definitely should have your resume out there… you could be a mi;;ionaire buddy, good luck with that.
To Joe:You are right, the boys played the azzes off against a very good team that has been in a MAJOR slump..they just happened to wake up at the wrong time for us.
To chillahill43: You are absolutely right. This is the fans team and we all have the right to moan about the team when they are not playing hard and lay an egg ( as a team and not personal)…however a TRUE fan will see, like Joe said, the team is giving it all they have right now, they are all playing HARD they are just in a slump right now.
To all my Braves Brothers: DONT GIVE UP! We are turning things around. They are getting great swings ( even right now..up 3-0 2nd inning), they are playing good defense and you can tell they WANT TO WIN. They are not complacent and they are staying positive. All this adds up to a division title and another NL Pennant and another WORLD SERIES! GO BRAVES!

I ALMOST FORGOT: To all you Philly fans:
You guys get on here and say the Braves fans are worried about the Phillies and it is you that is on the Braves forum not the other way around. With that said it is obvious that it is you guys doing all the worrying. Why else would you be on here? You are reading the Braves articles( I have not read a Philly article this year) and forums to find any sign of doubt from the players or fans because you know the train is coming, you know your precious Philly’s are getting ready to be face to face with their nightmare. You know that the Philly’s can not continue to live off other teams moving them up in the standings they will soon have to take care of business themselves and that my dear Philly fans SCARES THE HE$# out of you because you know what happened for 14 straight years is on the verge of starting again. Its coming, dont be scared, dont be mad, dont worry yourselves sick day in and day out. It is inevitable, the NL East KINGS are returning to their throne and NO-ONE will stop it. WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Go Braves
