The Phillies fans were going on about attendence, but someone did shut them up by getting stats since 2001, ours were consistant, but the Phillies went up like 20,000 since 2001. Coincedence, makes you think how many real fans fill up their stands. ;)

Soph, it sounded like there was a slight pause before she started his name where she was thinking, ‘I think I know this guy’s name is pronounced differently,’ but she went ahead and said Martun Prado. The last name was basically right, but it still sounded weird in Cohn’s New York accent.

Also, “Super Soph?” is one of the things on the side of the screen on sportscenter now… but they might pronounce “Soph” differently than you do.

I doubt they are fans by choice noleee. Probably tired of the playoff disappointments from previous years from the Bravos, Stizz

it’s a transient city. half the folks are from other places and they already have favorite teams from there and have little or no interest in the Braves. Combine that with the Southern tradition of football and Nascar and the urban sprawl of the city spread out all over and voila small attendance.
I simply have no clue why it is such an obsession on this board. Y’all get ego points if your team sells out? ;)

Ranking cities by population of the metro areas, Atlanta is 9th behind New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Philadephia, Houston, Miami, and Washington DC, in that order.

If you rank the cities by TV market size Atlanta is 8th behind New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Fransisco, and Boston in that order.

Just for the record … and for the people with the IQs under 100 …. I wasn’t “making fun” of anyone.

If Troy Glaus was at 3B, how could he possibly field a bunt? Or make a play charging toward the plate on a slow-roller? The guy can’t move. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate his contributions this season — I do. He’s the reason the Braves took over first place three months ago.

But 3B seems like a terrible idea. He can’t move. And people that can’t move probably don’t have much range.

menlobrave

I see no possibility of Atlanta losing the Braves. I do see a possibility (10 years out) of the Braves moving north of the Perimeter. The population has been moving that way for 40 years. Marta could extend up 400, and they could build a stadium near 400/marta. Gwinnett operation may be a beta site for moving that way, although it appears to be a little off the beaten path. If the city wants to keep them where they are, it will probably require some commercial development and a Marta extension to make it work. That will require private investment, as the city has not had decent leadership since the 70’s.

JoeBrave

August 31st, 2010

Just two names to watch when the Team comes up for sale. Not to worry Trey, MLB would not allow the Braves to be moved.

Stizz

August 31st, 2010
11:37 pm

You might be on to something Trey. Speaking to an MLB source, he claims with Selig having a flair for controversy that you could see the DH position tradeable in the distant future. With those 15 spots being coveted, a team could decide to trade away the spot if they could recieve player(s) they deem could alter the franchise for some time. Example being KC trading their DH for their former farmhand Pujols to STL. Gamewise, we’re looking at a scenario where one team in the NL could have a DH while their opponent is still using a pitcher in the 9 hole. Interesting, but it would create quite a stir.

Houston is not even ten years removed from getting a football team and the Tree freshner scent is still on the Nats.

N8

Trey, your problem with the DH in the minor leagues stems from you wanting to be entertained by the minor league games and what not.

When in reality, the minor league teams (while trying to be family friendly and entertaining) are nothing more then tools for the big club to use to prepare guys to either come up for the first time, or get back after an injury.

The DH in the minors is a perfect tool for the big club to get some guys on rehab asignments some AB without making them play the field.

I’m about as anti-DH as it gets. But have zero problem with it in the minors.

In fact, what would annoy me more, would be if a guy like Prado went on rehab asignment and got hurt by a take out slide around 2B, when the likely only reason for him to go on a rehab stint to begin with would be to get some AB to get his timing back down.
