Braves’ quotes after Monday win over Mets

BOBBY COX

“Jason had a great night offensively. Baserunning, twice he was good. He knocked in four runs, had four hits….

“J.J. was off his mark a little tonight. He had unbelievable stuff, [a lot of] strikeouts, but the walks got his pitch count up. We were hoping he could go seven tonight, at least. But he battled through it. He just got off target, lost his aim.

“O’Flaherty came in and got a huge out there. No telling what’s going to happen if they get a hit there.”

On Heyward’s slide and scoring from first base on Prado’s single to right

“Unbelievable. He can do things on the bases. His instincts are so great.”

How many times do you see a guy score from first on a hit like that?

“Almost never…. His instincts are, I’m going until somebody stops me.”

“We got six runs with two outs.”

JASON HEYWARD

On team confidence

“We’ve been pretty level-headed the whole season. We understand there’s going to be ups and downs. We understand there’s going to be injuries, trades, moves, things like that. What it comes down to, we know we have to show up every day and play our game.”

On Prado’s single, what are you thinking coming around second base?

“As I’m going on the pitch, it’s 3-2, I know I’ve got to get a pretty good jump in case my team puts in it play somewhere. Right there I’m looking to run.”

Didn’t slow at all?

“No, I didn’t stutter-step at all. I took a peek over my shoulder while the play was still right there close to me, and after that it was up to the third-base coach.”

Looks like you’re driving ball again like the first couple of months

“That’s just staying with it, keep working, get some timing back, get some comfort back and be able to go from there.”

On contributing to pennant race like he has lately

“It’s always great to be able contribute, man, from Day 1 to the last day of the season.”

On the two-out hits, his and Prado’s back-to-back

“Huge. It’s kind of funny, J.J. got that two-out knock, being the pitcher with two strikes right there. Then Omar was able to get on base and make something happen. Then with Martin [Prado's hit after Heyward's], being able to get runs with two outs there, that does a lot to a bullpen or a pitching staff.”

MARTIN PRADO

“The way that everybody’s thinking – we’re thinking playoffs right now. Every single win we can get matters. We’re trying to play a little ball. If we play like that, we’ll be fine.”

On Heyward’s game

“I’m not surprised. Since I saw that guy in spring training, I knew that he’s going to be one of the guys that’s going to change everything with this team. As he goes, we go.”

Great win tonight. Scary to think what Heyward may become in the years ahead. Nice to see LA ahead of the Phillies (hitless so far) and Halladay tonight.

if jason and martin can seriously both hit this way with bad fingers, we are really going to have something down the stretch.

also, let’s curtail the hating on kenshi-kun. i think we all remember kawakami the dragon-slayer from last season, who always rose to the occasion. maybe a legitimate pennant race is just what the sawamura-award winner needs to get real.

because man, my cat can pitch better than derek lowe right now.

Victorino just broke Kurado’s no-no bid. Two runners on for the Phillies, Dodgers still up 3-0 in the 8th.

Didn’t the announcers tonight say that the Fools got only, like,12hits in the entire series against the Pads?

We pick up a game on the Phils as they lost to the Dodgers. If we sweep the Mutts, and I don’t see why not, we could get some breathing room. I hope Giants win wild card over Phils. Phils could be dangerous if Howard and Utley wake up.

Good night all around, picked up a game on Philly and every division leader has 76 wins, home field is within our grasp. That will be huge for playoffs so we can use Mac’s home field gift in the series!

Resign or Re-sign? Yep 12 or so, Pads pitched well enough but got no run support .. sound familiar? The DBacks have beaten on the Pads badly recently. If that continues and the Giants actually pitch again the west may not be over after all. Very interesting playoff possibilities indeed!!

Really need to sweep this series. Any cushion we can get is of absolute importance.

I would like the Braves to lock-up the (3)top of our batting order with long-term contracts because they have brought it this year. They, especially Infante and Prado have been doing it ever since they have been in The ATL and Jason falls into that Special Group that just need to be shown The Love.Com’on Braves,do the right thing and I really believe they will. This is a class organization and they take care of their own.GO BRAVES

Cannot be more proud of McCann’s bunt with the shifted infield. Have always questioned why players don’t take advantage of that—and behold, the epitomy of a team player, McCann, does. Would love to get players/coaches comments on that.

I agree that Mac made an smart move by bunting and getting two(2) runners on with no outs but it was wasted because BC did not have Matt bunt them over but instead Matt hit into a double play.Bobby does not understand small ball. You move runners over and get them home, but Bobby hopes for three run homer. That is Bobby’s main flaw,he always dream big instead of taking what’s given.GO BRAVES

JJ was doggin’ it a bit last night until Mac went out and talked to him like a dutch uncle. Looked like it pi$$ed JJ off but he sure started bringin’ it after that. JJ seems to fall in love with the junk ball now and then. Great, well played game.

Heyward is the new SUPERMAN! That play that he scored from 1st on last night was awesome! GO BRAVES! I hate to watch a Braves game on ESPN…Did you hear when the announcers were talking about Infante could be the AVG leader in the NL if he gets enought at bats? They acted like it would be soo horrible if he knocked someone out of the triple crown by him getting the at bats….Bla, bla, bla,….What a bunch of creaps! GO OMAR, YOU CAN DO IT!

Ok Atlanta can we see if we can get more than 18,000 people to the game tonight? I mean you got a first place team playing their arch rival with a stud rookie on the mound for us tonight. How about you show up? Can we at least crack 20,000 or is that to hard for Atlanta?

Was at the game last night. The replays I’ve seen of Heyward’s homer don’t do it justice, that ball was scorched and there was no doubt from the second it left his bat. I hope we sweep the Mets, it would just about punch our ticket to the dance.

There are philly fans that talk about the attendance of braves games vs philly games. What would you rather have: a record attendance or a World Championship?
