Joe Brave: when you propose a trade that you would take in a flash …. it probably means that the other side is getting the short end of the stick and it will not be happening any time soon.
Short end of the stick? Lowe for 5 mil is not the short end, a 4 or 5 starter is making a helluva lot more than that.
Cubs need Pitching badly, that is a very cost effective move for both organizations.
I know I am not DOB but I would not say Mac is someone you’d call on to sac bunt in a crucial situation- he tends to bunt rather hard, which is not ideal when there is no shift on…
Joe Brave — I don’t know what cheap and good players the Cubs have in their organization, but they would have to spend something to replace Byrd so they might not save as much as you think. They are giving up an OF who they thought was worth a pretty big contract not so long ago.
In general, my point is that when you propose a trade that seems too good to pass up, the other GM might just agree with you.
what i’m liking about our offense in this game is that they’re STILL hitting this guy hard and have done so every inning so far. i’ve watched so many games where we have one good inning and then just seem to take the night off offensively… like there’s just no killer instinct. maybe we learned a lesson after that Colorado debacle.
G-Braves update: Scott Diamond has a no-hitter through 5 innings. Only 58 pitches. The only base runner was the lead-off hitter in the first inning. He was erased on a GiDP.
c-dog..never said you were the only one, check my comments. JJ has continued to pitch well and you guys have kept quiet I guess until he gives up another run or something and then it’ll be back to acting like he is junk.
I would just love to have Andrew Jones back on this team in this outfield rotation, hitting in the 8 hole. He would be night and day better than Melky.

Sam – Don’t waste your breath. There are a lot of clowns on this blog (not saying that about whoever you directed that comment towards, didn’t even read the original post) that can’t rationally step back and look at the big pitcher. Come on folks, JJ hasn’t gained that much weight. Seriously though its that whole argument on sample size. As with most things in baseball the bigger the better. JJ having a bad start in a place that is widely known as pitcher’s hell and struggling at the beginning of this game does not make his season.
